Caleb, I don't understand why you pay so much attention to comments 🫣 I'm not interested in what all these people say because most of them have no idea what they are talking about and haven't been able to examine the TV in detail like you have. I don't like the fact that the these people have now been given a platform in your video. this is ridiculous 😢 bad times...
Great review! I ordered a 77 inch S95D today, replacing my 78 inch KS9590. I’ve seen the matte screen coating in the shop already and found it a great alternative to the usual glossy screen. It has a bit of raised blacks but it still looked gorgeous and somewhat classy. Loved it.
@@bruceparker3139 I got my S95D and I had to come back here to let you know that’s it’s a fantastic TV. Huge leap over my old LED TV and an incredibly clean Panel. Zero banding - I didn’t know this was possible. The coating looks really classy and the picture is sharp, direct, impactful and a pure joy. Glad I made the plunge 😄
You’ll love the tv, just the Q9FN was a big upgrade (2018) and next was S95B in 2022 so you will for sure get a good tv. I give you one advice I recommend you follow and fuck streamers or reviewers on this, when your tv looks and play great don’t update anymore, if last thing you miss is faster UI it’s not worth it. People updating Samsung especially majority goes in this trap, even the experts, so if all is good don’t update and be sure by reading how others experience is of if you know anyone. Play hard and enjoy 🤘🏼 Edit; also had your tv the first year it was out, first Samsung to get more black rather than the gray tones, also another good tv but they messed with firmwares over time as usual 🤣 Think it was around release of this I started get more cautious with updates, but it goes with all brands as messing firmwares is a criminal business they all do except Panasonic
How are you liking the tv so far? Did you notice the 1 inch difference in tvs? I was always told to buy up in size for tvs or you don't get the woah factor as much
Does it still have that VRR flicker issue when playing video games with VRR turned on?? The S95B and C have this. I am surprised reviewers don’t see this when reviewing these TVs
Thanks for your review, Caleb! Excellent as always. I recently ordered the 77” G4 and while it hasn’t arrived yet, this review is not giving me any buyers remorse. I’m so excited for the G4 to arrive!
The g4 is incredible. The image processing is miles better. Yeah color luminance is lower but I’ve never looked at an lg OLED and thought the colors seemed dull. Enjoy the new tv!
Dude you are getting a G4 and worried about buyers remorse? Lol, oled is oled, they all look amazing. Imagine what we had to choose from 10 plus years ago and you can get a S90c 77" for under $2k. You couldn't buy any oled for under $6k 10 gears ago.
This TV with matte screen is a game changer for me. For years I've been struggling with glossy TVs that are unusable durring day time, because they reflect everything in front them like a mirror. Thank you samsung for finally addressing this issue!
I have been using the 65 S95D for last 1 month, and it has been exceptional. The anti-glare is something I cannot live without now. Earlier I used to be able to see myself in the TV during daytime, and dark scenes looked bad during peak sunlight. But in this TV it is more than visible during the day and no distractions visible on screen. When there is less ambient light or no light you can barely tell it has an anti-glare coating, looks like any good OLED.
I have had this since it was launched and I absolutely love it. I have a couple of recessed ceiling lights that I can barely see when the screen is dark. When I am watching something, there is no noticeable light reflected from anywhere. For years I have had annoying lights reflecting. Sometimes it is so bad I cannot play games or watch movies during the day. Now, no issues at all. The anti-reflective coating is really effective. The only issue I have with it is the difficulty getting sound to the soundbar. With HDMI-eARC turned on it regularly mutes sound to the soundbar (Q990D). Turn it off and it works.
That’s great to hear, I need a new TV and the window reflections are super bright during the day on the current TV, sometimes blocking viewing on half the screen. I’m definitely going for this after i recently saw it in the store.
What I do with my S95C and Q990B soundbar is to first switch my soundbar power on and then the TV on with remote. Then it works. If you find soundbar not responding, go to the TV's settings and then sound and then force select Sondbar + TV speaker option, it will reactivate the soundbar.
@@BottyGuy you're seem to be solving a wrong problem there. All you need is to install blinds and control the light in the room If you're watching TV in daylight, it is probably you're watching any non-movie content and for that, there are quite a lot of cheaper options to buy miniled or full array led to get a bright TV for your daytime viewing and a flagship oled for night time movie watching. No matter how much light reflection it can prevent, if you're watching a movie under bright sun lit room, the picture will be somewhat washed out, and you wouldn't want that when watching a movie on such an expensive flagship TV display, that looks great under low lighting conditions.
I took my wife with my to look at a G4 and when she saw the S95D she wanted that and only that. We have a very lit room and it looks stunning at all times, kinda glad I didn’t get the G4 honestly
@@SLICK8116good decision… my lg ended up with white line and need to replace panel at cost of tv only after 3 years of time to time usage, absolute crap
Dear Caleb, We have high demands from your videos and reviews because you are the best. Don't take it to heart we all love you and thank you for your hard work!!
Glossy is always for me. I super upset this trend that OLED panels are taking. The same thing with the Steam Deck OLED, I ended up covering the etched glass with glossy screen protector to get that deep black solid look. I game and watch at night and keep my TV away from windows. Don’t need matte
Every review of the S95d and the G4 changes my mind. Im just going to hang it all on your upcoming comparison review (although I think I know which one will win). Anyway, in either case, you’re the best reviewer on YT.
Both are great. Comes down to your room and size requirement. I have a lot of windows but wanted 83” so i went for G4. Glossiness is just beautiful and i don’t see any reflection at all. If 77” would be my size, i would probably go for Sony A95L still. Prefer the OS (don’t like LG’s nor Samsung’s).
True, I love watching in the bright. It really fixes that issue. When I go to theatres, I ask for all the lights to be on as well. Curtains and blinds, the hell are those? Love this new MiniLED from /s amsung, the Blooming is very minimal, very close to being an OLED.
Have been a proud owner of a 55” G3 for over a month now and was truly blown away by the brightness when in a bright room and it’s sheer performance only downside is the AI could be better but i am not complaining
Great job on the review! I would still go for a glossy panel but this TV still looks really good. Everyone has their own taste though. These TV's are so expensive and because of this fact I would just want the absolutely best picture. When I buy a new TV I normally hold onto it until it dies so it has to be the best right off the bat.
I saw the S95D in Best Buy and was hoping I would like it. The S95C looked great last year but had OneConnect box issues. The S95D looked a bit blurry/hazy to me so I decided to go for the LG G4. I also wasn't a fan of the A95L which was shocking since I went to the store thinking I would buy it.
I LOVE my S95D. I can finally watch without being distracted by reflections of my couch, lights, windows etc. I waited for years to replace a TV because nothing was available before the S95D that would have addressed my issues with reflections.
Very helpful, thanks. I’ve recently decided to go with the S95D over the S90D; i’ll be very interested in watching your G4 comparison (to eliminate any lingering hesitation on my part). I’m hoping for a Labor Day price drop to make my purchase. But as I’m already writing. The advantages of wall mounting are obvious. Yet it seems to me that table (mount?) allows for better air flow/cooling and given the heating you’ve described that should affect longevity. No? Last, if you really have some influence with Samsung perhaps you could whisper two letters to them: D and V. Have you ever heard of a case of a company selling a consumer product where a feature (in this case DV) is nearly universally wanted but the manufacturer refuses to pay the licensing fee to include it? (Yes, I know they want to promote HDR+ but they could have both).
my experience with this tv which i posted a video of on my channel best panel i have ever seen the ag coating is nothing short of a miracle and I see nothing wrong with it what so ever and that's from someone that despises antiglare coatings, only issue i have is that a light will diffuse more so than a glossy tv, so to me glossy is better, as i don't want a big ball of light in the picture, but overall i like to keep total darkness when watching a movie so it's something i can forgive installing the stand was a nightmare that made me scream a few times, you have pegs you have to line up in holes but you can't see what you're doing as it's all covered you have to hang it on a plastic piece then just push it down and hope you got it and if you only got one peg you have to redo, then you need to push it with your fingers to line it up for the screws to go in as it won't happen perfectly on it's own the screws won't go in as it's not lined up. the skipping is something I experienced too I also experience artifacting like the sky showing artifacts in a video, my sony a95k has an overall more detailed picture but I ended up forgiving that for it's amazing panel, I tried watching Godzilla on HBO max and it looks less than hd my sony did this so much better PC performance is just awful it crashes my PC it dims the picture as I am pushing the highest possible brightness it can handle and eventually it dims until I turn the tv off and on it's random sometimes it dims sometimes not, hdr is so broken that I am afraid of turning it on it looks awful when I turn it on but it's always been broken on windows, gaming mode is entirely broken and when turned on you lose half it's brightness so it's just awful i keep it off it's just so terrible, I have it set to 120 hz now for a more stable experience as 144 is just unstable, I am running on a rtx 3080 with a hdmi 2.1 cable, it worked fine on my sony a95k for years in 4k 120hz note that i am using the one connect box with the really low cable tizen os is by far the ugliest most complicated os I have ever seen and google tv is superb in comparison, you have to press home and settings and then you get a menu that covers the screen and then you need to press each option to adjust it, on google tv you press the settings button and you get a quickbar with everything and the menu on the side it's so intuitive it's not super attractive but at least it's not overly blue overall I think this is an incredible tv and even with it's awful PC performance i am justifying keeping it because the panel is just so beautiful and so gorgeous
I have to commend whoever shot this because their ability to capture the TV is simply second to none. I almost doubt the S95D looks that great in real life.
All I will say is I have an old LG C8 that I still love and in a dark room is amazing, but with any light sources or even white walls behind it you WILL see it reflected. Today I visited Selfridge's in London and saw the S95D in the middle of a really bright shop hall with lights everywhere and, OH MY GOD, looking at the footage on the S95D was like looking at a moving matte painting. It is AMAZING
The thing is as a UK viewer - the 'watching TV in harsh lighting conditions' (that you mention) hardly ever occurs. More generally have had an OLED (LG CX) I like the 'black' and not sure of the 'sheen' effect. But your remark about seeing the TV in person does seem important for this TV - maybe more that others.
I was about to do the same until I came across the extensive discussion about the bugged HDMI2 (ARC) port on the LG. So I bought the S 95D. Both have their advantages which you obviously have seen working at the store . I have to say I don’t much like the skin tones on the LG- all LG look to some extent Green (LG stands for looks green)- I admit the LG G4 looks the least Green of all of them, and is a fantastic TV with a number of advantages, including brightness, cool temp and build quality. I will sum up the samsung advantages as better color volume and gamut, Lack of green push, thinner panel, and lack of bugged HDMI ARC port.
@@kuldipsingh366I would choose the G4 over the S95C because it’s newer, brighter and has a better warranty. But if you can get a good deal on the S95C then I’d choose that and save my money as it’s still a great TV.
I'm using a 65S95b, I saw an S95D in the store, and after tinkering with the settings for an hour, I watched that classic Rabbit and Black cat video and opened some videos from the USB. I think matte does not mean Good or Bad, but the choice should be made according to the level of reflection in the place where it will be used, depending on the situation of the house. When you look at the Oled screen, it is as if colors are floating in water. This is the simplest way to look at it. This is not the case with the S95D matte panel. Oled TV is okay, but the feeling of extra liveliness that comes with brightness has been taken back a notch or two with the matte panel. In fact, world reviews also refer to the matte panel. He got points with two classes who didn't look at it very often and said it was very nice. In my personal opinion, if you ask S95D or S90D, I would prefer the glossy S90D model or the S95C Model. We all know that Sony supplies QD OLED panels from Samsung. If Sony uses Matte panels, I would say Samsung is on the right track with its new OLED series, but I would not buy MAT again. The S95D with its matte panel didn't excite me as much as the S95C and S95B
Honestly I can't WAIT for a proper review for the s90d compared to lg g4 and a95l.... Such a big price difference and would have lovvveeeeeeeed to see a comparison with Dolby vision vs hdr10+ differences on those models
Great review @Caleb, your reviews are always informative, honest and helpful. I’ve been waiting for this review and it has helped me make my decision to buy. 😊
Thank you, and we appreciate you as well. I want to thank you also for having an honest answer and opinion about this TV. Your opinion is what we want to hear and not just some opinion that we would like you to say. ^^
I have had the s90d for a few months and it has some quirks with VRR flickering in dark scenes when the frame rate fluctuates wildly. Another is that it does some weird stuff at times with stuttering that is annoying, especially in games. The menu and remote sucks. Might return it for an LG g3. I prefer the subtle matte anti-glare on the s90d as it's not too aggressive.
I never understood the criticism of the anti-glare display. In most bright lighting conditions, glossy OLEDs become virtually unwatchable and the S95D pretty much solves that entirely. And for the times when viewed in the dark, the anti-glare becomes a non issue since there is no external light to diffuse. Plus, as a fan of watching films in theaters, I prefer the matte presentation over a glossy screen since it’s closer to what you get from a projector. Glossy screens seem more suited to product demos and sports viewing anyways.
I have my eye on a G4. Do you have an estimation on when you’ll compare it to this in a dedicated video? I am really curious how well LG holds up with BT2020 content this generation.
I have 8 6ft windows in my living room and glare always distracted. This TV has removed about 95% of it and the picture is great. I love the sound as well.
Great review…one thing Samsung need to address is the one connect cable…I have a s95C…it comes with a super small and about 3 metre cable…not long enough!!!! Defeats the object of a one connect box!
S95B was more than fine enough so I would imagine so. Would prefer glossy as the S95B and S90C were incredibly well done, prefer over matte which been used on led in past but looking at this. Tv now after moving country, too much fuzzz about which models are actually QD Oled as well I see some that ordered around world got the 14xx firmware on the S90/95C so better start from fresh with firmwares and cut net when I see it comes too its peak, but the One Connect box is what worries most as it got around 1 faults with dropouts out of 10 tvs roughly, it looks great and early firmware is a big plus. If I knew I could get the S90D with QD Oled it be a safer buy as well full bandwidth which ps5 pro will take advantage of. It will be more then bright enough, got old videos with S95B showing with full daylight and windows beside that is zero issues so this will be superb, ;)
Three bright large windows in front of my current TV. I need this TV. Next year when it comes down in price. I can see outside my windows and watch TV at the same time.
And this anti-glare on a screen is why I used my Mitsubishi WD-82838 up to a few months ago. I had lights on in the room and the dlp set didn't care at all! Upgraded to a 4k dlp ust with a 100" hard frenal ALR screen and it is great! I have lights on in the rear of the room where I sit and the screen does not even show the slightest of them being on.
If you want to use your influence, tell them that FANS DEMAND DOLBY VISION. Samsung is simply a no go for me until they support the premiere HDR format in the marketplace.
Only if the difference between Dolby Vision and HDR10+ were like night and day in performance could fans justifiably “DEMAND DOLBY VISION." Samsung could unleash Dolby Vision tomorrow if they wanted to. Their restraint speaks volumes about the true value proposition of Dolby Vision. I've owned TVs that proudly boasted Dolby Vision, but when I switched to HDR10+? Not a single tear was shed. In fact, HDR10+ has consistently blown me away, serving up a visual banquet that leaves me wondering why I ever bought into the Dolby Vision hype. Don't let the HDR marketing machine pickpocket your wallet just for home theater bliss! These formats are more similar than the industry wants you to realize. This whole debacle reeks of the old Blu-ray vs HD DVD showdown - a battle of marketing FOMO rather than genuine technological superiority. It's like choosing between a $300 clock and a $30 one. Sure, the expensive one might have gold-plated hands, but does it really help you tell time any better? Here's a jaw-dropper for you: Even LG, once Dolby Vision's staunchest ally, has started excluding it from their lower-tier TVs. Why? To save you, the savvy consumer, from unnecessary overhyped costs. That's right - the very company that championed Dolby Vision is now admitting it's not essential for every viewer. Think about it: If Dolby Vision were truly the holy grail of HDR, we'd see a viewer uprising - we'd all be storming the gates of TV manufacturers, pitchforks and remotes in hand, demanding "DOLBY VISION OR DEATH!" But we're not, are we? Proving that our eyes can just be as satisfied with the alternatives.
I have three 8' sliding glass door in my room. This is the only TV that makes sense. When I saw it at Best Buy, It really stood out from the crowd because I saw the image in the screen, not my reflection. Some other reviewers pointed out that in the dark, this TV looks pretty much exactly like a glossy TV. For critical viewing, you'd likely be in a pretty dark room. I usually watch the TV during the day and a projector at night. This TV is perfect for my needs. The house isn't finished yet, but Best Buy has my S95D in storage waiting :)
*Samsung should use the anti reflective gorilla glass used on s24 ultra on 2025 oled TVs. It's glossy and anti reflective at the same time - the best of both worlds.*
Thanks for the review! Looking forward to the vs LG G4 review. I hope we will see bigger screen sizes in the future. I currently have a 83A90J I would love to have a 97" qdoled or MLA oled in te future sadly both do not exist yet. BTW do I spot SVS Evolution speakers over there? Are you also going to review those?
I seen and actually loved the anti-glare! Couldn’t even see my own reflection! That said, you mentioned blacks not looking inky but that’s with anything other then WOLED, but sadly not true, the MLA does it too, I can easily notice blacks not looking inky black on it with lighting in the room. I’m glad I got the G2. But I’ll need another (bigger) tv eventually so idk what to do.. perhaps the C5 or S95E if they make it in an 83”
Thanks for a well balanced review. The anti-glare screen would probably not be for me, given the smearing, but your attempts to always be fair-minded are appreciated.
**** NOT A TV FOR GAMERS** I have the S95D 77 inch, and the game mode Lag and create a pink image. Whatever the resolution, 60 native/120/144. Samsung. The only way that I can minimize the number of time it happened is by turn on and off game mode until it works....... It very bad honestly. But for the rest its a nice tv
Great video, will there be a discussion on banding on the C4/G4 LGs versus the C3/G3 versus the QDOLED. I’m on the fence and need to know if the G4 has resolved the banding issue that has been an issue of RGB OLED (like my C1).
Classy Tech Calibrations has done some comparisons and shows that the C4 looks quite a bit better than the S90D despite only being WRGB OLED with no MLA or heatsink. He also did a livestream comparing the G4, S95D, and A95L and is working on a detailed video comparing them. Check it out because he goes into good detail about bugs and issues with tone mapping and stuff like that.
Hey Caleb, I’m wondering if you are going to review the S90D as well? I would like to see you review it. It would be nice to get some mid-range OLED TV reviews for the 2024 lines.
Samsung only has one year warranty compared to five years for LG G4! In addition to the fact that they don’t want to have Dolby Vision and DTS:X is a deal killer for me.
@@ipodguy123gunderstandably most people just want DV because they want everything from a TV when they pay over $3k but let me tell you, my A95L has Dolby Vision and I don’t use it from how bad it is😂
@@ipodguy123gthe problem isn’t that DV is better than HDR10+ because like you said they are mostly indistinguishable from each other. It’s just that most content only supports DV and not 10+. And just saying use headphones isn’t a good argument against not having DTS:X
@@RBGT3RS Definitely agree with the not enough hdr10+ content point. I dont think ive seen that indicator pop up on my tv since i got it 2 years ago lol. But im not familiar with how audio codecs on tvs work. If i set up a speaker system to the tv or the source, does it still not output the input codec if the tv doesn’t support it?
We bought the S95D 77” for $2000 off and ended up returning it. The reason? The anti-reflective coating causes blooming around bright highlights against a dark background, making it look like a mini-LED TV rather than an OLED with perfect contrast and inky blacks. This was while watching in a dark room too. Also the motion processing is bad. We watched the Champion’s League final and it was nowhere near as clear as our 4 year old LG GX. This issue persisted no matter how much I tinkered with the motion settings. We’re gonna get the LG G4 now instead.
This is disappointing to hear, but thanks for sharing! That's a good bit of info to know. I am on the hunt for the perfect gaming tv and was almost decided on the s95D
@@LittlePlant888 Happy to help anyone that’s looking for a new TV by sharing my experience! To be fair, the blooming issue was mostly relegated to movie credits and subtitles. If you can look past that small issue, then the S95D is still a great TV, especially if you can get it on sale. The vividness of the colours is still something Samsung excels at. It’s just that the screen coating kind of “flattens” the image and gets rid of the distinct 3D look that OLEDs are known for. That’s why my family is switching to the LG G4. Even though its colours aren’t as vivid as the Samsung, the image has a lot more depth and really pops out of the screen, thanks to the glossy coating. Plus the motion processing is great for watching sports. But if you’re using it for gaming: I wouldn’t worry too much about the S95D. Unless you’re playing on a PC, in which case you’re limited to 120HZ, as the 144HZ mode doesn’t work properly with Samsungs one-connect box. But that’s something they might fix with an update. The LG G4 on the other hand is a fantastic gaming TV that does full 4k at 144Hz no problem. I’d ultimately recommend buying whichever one you get the best deal on if you’re mainly gaming on it.
Ive said it before and ill say it again. This TV lets me easily watch content in lighting conditions that any normal glossy tv would not. Due to this simple reason alone, it is better for me than any other TV currently available. In light-controlled it looks as good as any other premium OLED. If anyone else has this kind of problem, get this TV, there is no better option.
What about the softness of the picture compared to Sony or LG G4? Samsung's processing just smears fine details and the picture has less clarity. Certainly, the colors of the Samsung are fantastic but lack of clarity and fine details in comparsion to Sony and LG G4 is inexcusable.
I think the anti glare screen is more distracting than having a small light reflection. It blows out the colors and blacks badly. Got the S95C instead.
For me a glossy screen is key, the issue I have adding a mat finish AFFECTS SHARPNESS as well as saturation take the fruit comparison with the g4 there is a clear noticeable degradation in texture of the fruit, another example fur looses Follicles to the point where the qd benefits are lossed to high end wold panel’s
no it's not, when light falls from the room to a antiglare screen, the light gets spreaded over the full screen and and brightens it up. so you're near black level encrases. A glare screen reflects the light bundled back. The bad thing there is, you can look at yourself on the screen, but the rest of the screen remains dark. In a dark room is no significant difference between both.
Hi? Can you address in the s90d vs s95d comparison the rather huge difference in montion clarity? Like really, really huge. Just look at any comparison video and find a scene that is not slow motion or still and pause it. Tech with kg has a great comparison with only 2 tvs. Anyways it's such a shocking difference. I believe you will be as floored as I was. One is very clear the other is very, very blurry!! How has this gone unnoticed? Even small movements like the brush moving slowly over the green sandy stuff has ridiculous differences. Blurry vs seeing every last grain. Anyways, this is everything from sports to john wick and well anything with non slow motion movement so its a great selling point. Why would samsung not advertise a 5/10 vs a 9/10 motion clariry difference did they regret their choice? Serriously confused consumer here having watch every last video and live stream with many sports scene analyses and not a single mention. They only checked the little football moving insanely fast and far from the camera and missed blurry players. How the new processors handle specific circumstances does not necessarily represent generalities like test patterns vs real content.
3:06 - it's one of them where you can see what it does, and it does it well I suppose, but for me paying a premium for it doesn't make much sense. If I was in a room with that level of issues with light and I was using the TV regularly, I'd just go with a high-end MiniLED personally. But then I haven't seen it in person and people rave about the S95D, and they'll know better. It just doesn't convince me personally as a consumer that it's worth the outlay.
That is where you are wrong, even with a Miniled tv the screen looks like a mirror and you are watching yourself in it once it moves away from a full screen super bright scene, that that is way more distracting.
Here in India a 55 inch S95D is available for about 1900$ and they're throwing in an extra 43 inch DU8300 Crystal 4K UHD Smart TV free with it and with 3 years of extended warranty
Great content on the channel. I have a S95C. I get light banding e.g watching rebel moon. Is this a normal thing or can something be done to reduce this?
I’m watching sports (NBA finals) with the S95D right now- I have to say it I just really like the picture of the TV. I was having audio dropout via both optical and HDMI with an expensive DAC I have had since 2013. I switched it out for one of those $30 HDMI audio extractor DACS, and no dropouts now🤣🤣 Looks great with Netflix 4K content … The uproar is all overblown stuff about the matte-like anti-reflective coating . I get it some people hate it. Whatever. If I were samsung, I would offer versions of next year’s flagship in both glossy and Matte just to stop potential customers from going crazy.
Caleb, another great video 👍 I'm a Sony guy, for good reasons, but I'm still a fan of innovation, and I appreciate Samsung for their r&d. However, I think that negates one of the key features of OLED, the screen. With the contrast level being less, per your review, ie, dimming areas, and others, I would think that it would make more sense for the buyer, to invest in a non OLED display, eg, mini-led technology? I'd love to get your opinion on it, as I'll bet that your subscribers will also have questions about it. I'll be Monday morning QB, and say, hey Samsung, you don't make your newest, untested, model, your top tier, flagship! Why not release two models (hear me out), side by side? Call them the Q9WHATEVER and Q9WHATEVER/gloss+plustcby... Advertise them as such, retail floor space side by side, tech shows, trainings, etc,ad nauseum. And is it safe to say that there is still a potential, albeit small, for image retention, or even permanent burn-in? So basically Caleb,Guru of all things Digital, is there going to be a Trend for this tech?
Samsung, yes. Go ahead and make whatever TV you want, with whatever kind of screen coating. I've already got the S95D, so I don't care what you make now. For us, in our home, the anti-glare is an absolute game changer. It has had a huge impact on TV usage. With our previous display there were times we could not watch it even if we wanted to because of the glare. S95D solved that completely. It really works. If there's some nit-nerd measurable difference between this and some better TV like the LG, OK. So what? Nobody will ever notice. My life won't be different because I watched a movie with an HDR highlight that was a tiny bit less bright, or a black that slightly less black, or a color that was slightly less accurate. And if nobody had measured it, nobody would have noticed or cared. It makes nerds mad, but in every day real life, it's invisible and entirely meaningless. If they sold one, I would have saved my money bought a much lower end TV with the anti-glare coating. They just decided to only put it on the flagship only, so that's what we had to go for. Even so, no regrets whatsoever. I'll only be upset if this TV doesn't last us a very long time.
Thanks for the info. I'm really interested in this TV since glare and reflections of the wall are my main issues when watching TV, especially in dark show/movie scenes. How does the screen handle lights that are to the side of the TV, like along the same wall for example?
@@B_Ahmed1234 The s95d only does poor with intense direct light hitting it. If the light is soft or it is light that is bouncing off of another surface, 98% of the time you will not notice it as you would on a glossy tv. Now if it is direct bright light hitting the tv, then you could run into the issues discussed in the video-- whether or not they bother you would then be another question.
@@B_Ahmed1234 We don't have any lights there, so I don't know. What we do have is direct sunlight. With our previous TV the sun would touch the screen and the entire TV would be a white sheet. Literally unwatchable. Even if we closed our blinds, which are sadly not opaque, the TV was still a white sheet. With the S9D and the blinds open, yes, there is glare on the places being directly hit by the sun. But the image on the TV powers through. You can still see the image on the screen. If we close the blinds, which only partially block the sun, all glare is eliminated. The entire TV image looks uniform. It's quite remarkable.

Thanks for the S95D review! Is the Bravia 7/9 up next for review? An eta would be spectacular!
Once again the audio on this flagship is deeply disappointing
Caleb, I'm curious if you tried putting lights to the side of the TV, such as a lamp along the same wall? Does the anti-reflection work just as well?
Caleb, I don't understand why you pay so much attention to comments 🫣 I'm not interested in what all these people say because most of them have no idea what they are talking about and haven't been able to examine the TV in detail like you have.

Play hard and enjoy 🤘🏼
Edit; also had your tv the first year it was out, first Samsung to get more black rather than the gray tones, also another good tv but they messed with firmwares over time as usual 🤣
Think it was around release of this I started get more cautious with updates, but it goes with all brands as messing firmwares is a criminal business they all do except Panasonic

The S95B and C have this.
I am surprised reviewers don’t see this when reviewing these TVs

All OLEDs have this unfortunately.

Can't wait for the G4 comparison! Thanks Caleb!
Does it make colors look washed out when light getting on TV?
How much deep black one can expect to be compromised assuming LG G4 is 100?
@@bruceparker3139 not much.
Cannot directly compare with g4, but colors domt look washed out if brightness is high enough @@bruceparker3139
Nah. That anti-glare screen degrades picture quality.
🤮🤮🤮
I've already seen the TV in person.
All you need is to install blinds and control the light in the room
If you're watching TV in daylight, it is probably you're watching any non-movie content and for that, there are quite a lot of cheaper options to buy miniled or full array led to get a bright TV for your daytime viewing and a flagship oled for night time movie watching.

It's weird that there are no options. S95C has VERY VERY good reflection handling.
Options for what. The S95D is a better TV in any aspects compared with previous model and the competition. Don't judge before owning one.

(Yes, I know they want to promote HDR+ but they could have both).
my experience with this tv which i posted a video of on my channel
best panel i have ever seen the ag coating is nothing short of a miracle and I see nothing wrong with it what so ever and that's from someone that despises antiglare coatings, only issue i have is that a light will diffuse more so than a glossy tv, so to me glossy is better, as i don't want a big ball of light in the picture, but overall i like to keep total darkness when watching a movie so it's something i can forgive
installing the stand was a nightmare that made me scream a few times, you have pegs you have to line up in holes but you can't see what you're doing as it's all covered you have to hang it on a plastic piece then just push it down and hope you got it and if you only got one peg you have to redo, then you need to push it with your fingers to line it up for the screws to go in as it won't happen perfectly on it's own the screws won't go in as it's not lined up.
the skipping is something I experienced too I also experience artifacting like the sky showing artifacts in a video, my sony a95k has an overall more detailed picture but I ended up forgiving that for it's amazing panel, I tried watching Godzilla on HBO max and it looks less than hd my sony did this so much better
PC performance is just awful it crashes my PC it dims the picture as I am pushing the highest possible brightness it can handle and eventually it dims until I turn the tv off and on it's random sometimes it dims sometimes not, hdr is so broken that I am afraid of turning it on it looks awful when I turn it on but it's always been broken on windows, gaming mode is entirely broken and when turned on you lose half it's brightness so it's just awful i keep it off it's just so terrible, I have it set to 120 hz now for a more stable experience as 144 is just unstable, I am running on a rtx 3080 with a hdmi 2.1 cable, it worked fine on my sony a95k for years in 4k 120hz note that i am using the one connect box with the really low cable
tizen os is by far the ugliest most complicated os I have ever seen and google tv is superb in comparison, you have to press home and settings and then you get a menu that covers the screen and then you need to press each option to adjust it, on google tv you press the settings button and you get a quickbar with everything and the menu on the side it's so intuitive it's not super attractive but at least it's not overly blue
overall I think this is an incredible tv and even with it's awful PC performance i am justifying keeping it because the panel is just so beautiful and so gorgeous
Thanks for the review, Caleb. When is your review of the Bravia 9 coming?
I work at an electronics retailer so i see these TV’s daily. I bought the LG G4
What didn’t you like with the S95D?
What would you choose between LG G4 v S95C?

Great job Caleb. Nicely balanced review. Can’t wait for the glossy S95D-G! Hopefully Samsung is listening.
Nope.
@@bearclaw5115Yep
In a dark room, you don't see the gloss or shine, with matte screen you lose a bit of contrast. In dayvlight it makes better viewing, no doubt.

Lovely thorough review again Caleb. Is it bright enough for standard sdr though?
Would you please provide the settings you used to calibrate your S95D to where family & friends were "Gob-smacked!" Thank you so much.
Even the same TV model is going to be different from panel to panel. I could provide the source of that statement but I cannot post links in TH-cam.
But what does it cost compared to the G4? Unless it's markedly cheaper, most people will take the better colours and mirror screen of the G4.
Man it was hard to pick between this one and the G4. Ultimately went with the G4 77 inch.
Right choice

That is not bloom, it is glare. It happens due to high brightness. Gloss or matte, glare will be there
@@amrititbhu Thanks, I didn’t know that. Would there still be glare even when watching in a pitch black room?
Why didn’t you get an a95l over the g4?
Ive said it before and ill say it again. This TV lets me easily watch content in lighting conditions that any normal glossy tv would not. Due to this simple reason alone, it is better for me than any other TV currently available. In light-controlled it looks as good as any other premium OLED.
If anyone else has this kind of problem, get this TV, there is no better option.
I have a 100" 4k ultra short throw projector with a frenal screen and do not have glossy issues either.
I'm sure this was a pain in the ass to do! Much respect! Fair and balanced.
What about the softness of the picture compared to Sony or LG G4? Samsung's processing just smears fine details and the picture has less clarity. Certainly, the colors of the Samsung are fantastic but lack of clarity and fine details in comparsion to Sony and LG G4 is inexcusable.
I agree with you. After a week with S90D I'm switching to Sony A80L. Brightness being better is just not enough to consider it as a good product.
When might we see the review for the 2024 TCL QM8?
They make this so difficult. Why don’t they all have Dolby vision, DTS, and QD-OLED.
I think the anti glare screen is more distracting than having a small light reflection. It blows out the colors and blacks badly. Got the S95C instead.
I totally agree with you on the TV OS. I hate it. Everything else I love about it. And I do have the same soundbar as you. It's really good together.
Been waiting for your Sony Bravia 9 reviews!!!!! Cuz you always provide the best point for the TVs!!!
Seen it myself, Black isn't black, it's grey...Might as well by the Frame at that point
You are wrong. It is just as black as any other oled.
no it's not, when light falls from the room to a antiglare screen, the light gets spreaded over the full screen and and brightens it up. so you're near black level encrases.
I switched it out for one of those $30 HDMI audio extractor DACS, and no dropouts now🤣🤣
Looks great with Netflix 4K content …
The uproar is all overblown stuff about the matte-like anti-reflective coating . I get it some people hate it. Whatever. If I were samsung, I would offer versions of next year’s flagship in both glossy and Matte just to stop potential customers from going crazy.
I loved this review. I think the S95D is more impressive than the G4, and I was impressed with the G4
We just want Bravia 8 reviews. JK. As always, this IS the best TV review channel on TH-cam
What settings do you use for the s95d watching regular tv shows? Film mode? Filmmaker mode?
@@B_Ahmed1234 The s95d only does poor with intense direct light hitting it. If the light is soft or it is light that is bouncing off of another surface, 98% of the time you will not notice it as you would on a glossy tv. Now if it is direct bright light hitting the tv, then you could run into the issues discussed in the video-- whether or not they bother you would then be another question.
@ipodguy123g
Thanks!
I never allow direct lights on the TV, so that won't be an issue.
Awesome take now I’m back at considering their 4K monitor. Also has the coating
Am i seeing the SVS Ultra Pinnacles? Hope you give those a review!
990D soundbar doesn't fit under the stand of 55 inch S95D
I have Sony A95K 55 inch still in EU is available in Sony Center brand new, only in this size, My was out from factory 02/2024 because I purchased it one month ago. I chose this model because design for me is better than A95L, price is very similar between this two in this size. And this is picture quality, sony Master Series TV are amazing, before I have Sony Oled a84J also great TV, but this is step ahed.
And I thinking that my A95K is 2024/02 model so this Tv must have 2 gen qd-oled panel?
Had 3rd gen panel if Produktion line was 2024.
I actually got to see one today at my local electrical store. I really didn’t know what to think about it prior to seeing it.
Well, personally, it looked fantastic and the mat screen looked great to my eyes. The images presented certainly looked rich and colourful. The new G4 was also on display, and it too looked brilliant.
Decisions decisions…..
