    Ever since the passing of Qui-Gon Jinn in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”, the fate of the galaxy was set in stone. With the Jedi Order blinded by their own dogmatic view of the force, Anakin Skywalker was destined to become Darth Vader and bring an end to the Jedi. However, with the birth of Luke Skywalker, a new hope came to the Galaxy. Trained by Ben Kenobi and Master Yoda, Luke became the Jedi Knight the galaxy needed and helped his father Anakin, return to the light, fulfill the prophecy of the chosen one and end Emperor Palpatine's reign of the galaxy. That’s until he decided to Essence Transfer himself into a clone of course.
    Now what if Qui-Gon survived and defeated Darth Maul? Well that would change everything! It’s highly likely that if Qui-Gon did survive, he would become Anakin’s Master regardless of what the Jedi wanted. Qui-Gon followed the living force and only the living force. He nearly became a Gray Jedi. So, in this alternative timeline, how would this change of events change the fate of the Galaxy? If trained by Qui-Gon Jinn, would Anakin still become Darth Vader or would there be balance in the force? This question is what we are looking at in today's CBR What If video! What events in the prequel trilogy change? What, if anything would stay the same? What do you think would happen if Qui-Gon survived? Join us in a galaxy far far away as we dive into this Star Wars What if!

    • @RenegadePlayingGames
      @RenegadePlayingGames 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's also a complete misunderstanding of Star Wars lore. The light side represents good and the dark side represents evil, and the light side IS the balanced Force. That's it. You don't embrace your evil half, that would be ridiculous. You overcome it. Also it makes no sense in this theory that Qui-Gon would teach Anakin the light and dark side, since Qui-Gon is completely dedicated to the light, or in other words, the will of the Force.
      Funniest part of this video is when it says Anakin using the light and dark (which isn't even possible) would make him more level-headed, lol. No, the dark side is why Anakin leveled Dooku's head in Revenge of the Sith.
      edit: Video also contradicts itself towards the end saying Anakin has return to the light side or something, so idk what they're even saying.

    I have always said Palapatine's entire plan to make Anakin become his apprentice was to get rid of Qui-Gon Jinn. If you watch the choreography of the fight between Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul, you will see Darth Maul focuses on fighting Qui-Gon and all but ignores Obi-Wan. Mostly Maul just keeps knocking Obi-Wan out of the fight. Even once Maul kills Qui-Gon, he seems confused what to do next and is killed by Obi-Wan. That's because the mission he was given by Palpatine was completed.

      @@alexblend4751 It's after Maul pushes Obi-Wan into the pit. Even having the "high ground" he gets defeated rather foolishly IMO. That's was my interpretation of the fight. We also learn later Sidious' other apprentices were used as tools for his scheme (Dooku to push Anakin further to the Dark Side and Grievous to continue the Clone War), so I figure Maul was used to set up Obi- Wan training Anakin, or it could have been just to remove Qui-Gon from the equation...

    Obi-Wan wouldn’t fall out of the ship because unlike Padme...
    “He can see things before they happen. It’s a Jedi trait that’s why he appears to have such quick reflexes. Don’t don’t do that again!”
    Thank you Qui-Gon, so Obi-Wan would’ve deflected the blast, and Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Anakin would’ve all been facing off with Count Dooku, and since this time Anakin has learned to work with his emotions all these years instead of years of repression and since he saved his mother, he wasn’t raised among the other Jedi and Padme wasn’t there he hasn’t seen his mother die in his arms, several of his friends get blasted away and seen the woman he loves shot out of a ship all within the span of a couple days he wouldn’t be working through the same issues he was working through in the original timeline and wouldn’t have rushed in and been quickly knocked out. I mean - they are so worried about Ani’s fear and anger - seems a simple thing to do.

      Yeah, that’s one thing I feel this video overlooked. Qui-Gon would have 100% returned to Tatooine at some point to free Shmi, both so that Anakin could feel at peace (feeling fear over your mother who you had to leave behind in slavery is a VERY LEGITIMATE FEAR, idk why the council couldn’t understand that.) and also because Qui-Gon would have felt morally obliged to do it as a Jedi. So they take Shmi to Naboo to live happily with Padmé as something like a handmaid or groundskeeper perhaps, which Padmé would readily allow, and Anakin forms a long-standing friendship with Padmé until they are old enough for their age difference to not be weird anymore, at which point Anakin admits his feelings for her and they fall in love. Qui-Gon, realizing that love is in line with the Light Side, allows it, and they have a healthy relationship without Anakin being afraid to lose her or trying to possess her. With all that, there’s practically zero chance that Anakin turns to the Dark Side. I can still see him being interested in lightsaber combat and learning more about the Sith, and Qui-Gon, not being afraid, encourages this, and it helps Anakin find himself, and maybe even see things the Jedi can’t, with their fear of the Sith. Maybe Anakin eventually figured out who Palpatine is, they contact the Jedi Order in secret and start a resistance, and Palpatine’s plans are thwarted, with Sidious being defeated by Anakin himself sometime down the road after becoming incredibly powerful and skilled.

    Honestly this follows a lot of what I had in mind for Qui-Gon training Anakin, especially with him leaving the Jedi Order to do so. Qui-Gon would mostly definitely renounce his standing with the Order if they refused Anakin again. Although, I'm of the belief that Dooku would also depart with Qui-Gon and have a hand in training Anakin, too. Remember that Qui-Gon's death was just the final nail in the coffin for him on turning to the Dark Side. The Jedi had failed Dooku already too many times. Upon hearing of Qui-Gon's departure, he would likely leave with Qui-Gon.
    Also, with Qui-Gon and Dooku's tutelage, Anakin would likely become all the more balanced in learning both the Light Side and Dark Side. He'd be a Yin-Yang Bomb.

  • @WarriorofSunlight
    @WarriorofSunlight 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    That was pretty good. I like how it didn’t end up with Anakin still falling to the Dark Side and joining Palpatine, which would have been cliché. My one gripe is that I don’t think under Qui-Gon’s teachings, Anakin wouldn’t have started to give in to the Dark Side, even if Qui-Gon died. There would be inner turmoil, but I think Qui-Gon’s teachings would prevail and he’d work things out in himself. He’d still be the person that wants to do good at all costs, but without the recklessness, anger, and fear. Nonetheless, I do like the outcome of this what if, with Anakin going on a journey of self-discovery and finding himself and leading a resistance to finally defeat Sidious.

    One event would change the becoming of the chosen one, the fight between Qui-Gon and Maul. I think that Anakin would leave the order like Qui-Gonn did to continue his training with Qui-Gon, he would figure out how to communicate with Anakin as a ghost. A akin and his master would have went to another place in peace to train so Anakin wouldn’t have any communication with Padme, that would result in his fears not existing so he wouldn’t be tempted to join the dark side. After Qui-Gon’s death, Anakin would grow closer to Obi-Wan while their previous master found a way to become a ghost and interact with them. Because of Qui-Gon not dying though, Ahsoka wouldn’t become Anakin’s padowan and in the clone wars she would be paired up with someone else. In the movie of the Clone Wars, Anakin defends Ahsoka by agreeing with her plan against the clones and by telling her that he too was reckless so she might make it as his padowan, but she wouldn’t make it as Obi-Wan’s. Obi-Wan might or might not b paired up with a new padowan in this new timeline, as we saw in the clone wars, a padowan (Ahsoka) made the master (Anakin) more responsible and he didn’t risk his life as much; this might also have happened to Obi-Wan (making him more responsible) so without a reckless padowan, his life could b different too. Anakin and Padme wouldn’t meet again so Padme wouldn’t get pregnant and Luke and Leila wouldn’t be born, or they would but not as Anakin’s children. No Darth Vader so Palpatine would still be looking for another apprentice Sith lord.

      There is also the REASON that the clones were made was due to the fall of Sifo and Dooku. Dooku fell because Qui-gon died he blamed the Jedi for sending him on a suicide mission. That is when sideous started to pull his strings and the start of manipulation of the Seperatists forces. Why Dooku was the perfect choice for the reblion, He believed the Republic Corrupt. Sifo having sensed the Empire rising rushed to find a cloning facility but gets intercepted after initial contact and Dooku taking his place with Jango ready. Sideous giving the order of the chips unknown to Dooku for the Orders....
      Really Dooku is a Key role in the timeline and Qui-gon dying is a domino setting it all in motion. No dead Qui-gon no Fallen Dooku. Sifo orders clones without Sideous intercepting no order 66 and the Rebuplic have their clones. A new plan he needs to make and the Jedi Fracturing is a key to his kingdom. A jedi Civil War would begin anew.

    I do agree that having Qui-Gon as a father would have prevented Anakin from turning to the dark side because he would have been much more emotionally mature and balanced. There are some things I disagree with, however.
    Going with your theory that Qui-Gon dies at the end of Ep. 2, you just skipped over the Clone Wars into Ep. 3. I do agree that Anakin's relationship with Obi-Wan would be different, and their fighting styles wouldn't so be so closely matched, but it wouldn't be as different as you claim. They were both trained by Qui-Gon Jinn. And having lost Qui-Gon, they would bond over their shared grief as the Clone Wars progressed. They would have years of missions together. I think they would still develop a strong friendship, but it wouldn't be the one that we know. It would be more equal, honest, and open. Part of the dysfunction of the canon Obi-Wan/Anakin relationship was their blatant denial of certain things, like Anakin's relationship with Padme, or just denial of feelings in general.
    That leads me to my other issue with your theory. This theory runs with the false idea that Anakin turned to the Dark Side because of his love for Padme. WRONG! He turned to the Dark Side because of his FEAR of losing Padme. Fear and love are not the same thing. The Jedi Code forbidding attachments was one of the many things that was WRONG about the Jedi Order because it made the Jedi aloof and lacking compassion, which is what is supposed to be central in a Jedi's life. I think Anakin would meet Padme again in this "Qui-Gon lives" alternate timeline because I believe it was the Will of the Force that they met, which is exactly what Qui-Gon built his life around, and he would have raised Anakin to do the same. I think they would have a relationship, but since Anakin is not a Jedi, it wouldn't be a "secret." And I think that because of the emotional maturity he gained from being raised by Qui-Gon, his relationship with Padme would be much healthier and much stronger, and he wouldn't be driven by the fear of losing her. If, in this alternate timeline, he started having dreams of losing her, of course he would try to find a way to prevent it, but his emotional stability that he learned from Qui-Gon (and his mother, too, if she also lived) would have given him the strength to resist the Dark Side, even if it meant letting Padme go. We know from Revenge of the Sith that it was a self-fulfilled prophesy. Padme died because Anakin turned to the Dark Side to prevent her from dying. If he didn't turn to the Dark Side, then the prophesy simply wouldn't come true. And then they could have raised Luke and Leia together in a happy ending.
    What I think is really interesting to speculate on is how Qui-Gon's continued existence would affect Palpatine/Sidious' plan. As you said, the Jedi's vision of the Force was clouded where Qui-Gon's was not. Palpatine may have been a manipulative genius, but a lot of the reason he was so very successful was because the Jedi were so closed-minded and lost. He played on their weaknesses. If someone like Qui-Gon existed during his rise to power, I think it stands to reason that Palpatine would have been exposed much earlier, early enough that it would have prevented, if not the Clone Wars, then at least Order 66 and the Empire.

    Unfortunately I disagree with your assessment on Qui-Gon's death at the hands of Dooku. This is because Dooku is older than Qui-Gon and believe that Qui-Gon would have adapted his fighting style in seeing Anikan adapt.

    • @radagastdk
      @radagastdk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Agree. The argument that Qui-Gon is 10 years older and thereby 10 years weaker falls completely flat. Both of them are 10 years older, so no change in that. If anything, aging should fall harder on Count Dooku.

    I agree with the general trajectory you shared until one point: what makes you think that Qui Gon would have lost to Count Dooku during the Clone Wars?
    QG lost to Darth Maul because DM was more agile, not because he was any less. But in a battle between QG and CD, QG would be the more agile one. Yes, in the films CD beat both Obi-Wan and Anakin, but they had no direct experience in CD's teachings.
    Having been trained by CD himself, a more agile QG would have known QG's weaknesses and been able to defeat him. QG himself would have realized himself that the Republic was now corrupt, notified the Jedi Council, and QG and Anakin both would have joined forces with the Jedi to stop Palpatine.
    Like before, Obi-Wan himself would have defeated General Grievous. And the Jedi would have sent Mace Windu and Qui Gon to confront the Emperor. Undiluted by the presence of a weak-willed/manipulated Anakin, emotional and confused, and without him on the scene, Mace and Qui Gon would have together been able to stop the Emperor.
    (That said, probably the Emperor would have targeted Anakin one way or another. The Sith, after all, are sneaky. Thus it is unclear which direction it would have actually gone in. Afterall, Anakin's future was always cloudy for a reason. Probably because his very birth was a product of the Sith's manipulation.)
    Then QG would have parted ways with Mace and refused to join the Jedi. And the Jedi would have been awakened by QG's 'gray Jedi' perspective, helping the council to see how they failed. Yoda would admit their weakness and steer the Jedi properly again.
    Qui-Gon would return to complete Anakin's training and the Dark side would have been discontinued. No more Emperor manipulating, no Darth Vader. With peace having been restored to the galaxy. Episode's 4, 5, & 6 would have never happened.
    QG not dying mean a Sith-infiltrated/led Empire would never have risen.
    Essentially Qui Gon dying one way or another is what would have led to the Empire.

    I personally believe anakin would still have a strong brotherly bond with obi wan, not as strong as the original timeline but the bond would still be there built from the clone wars. With both obi wan and anakin losing qui gon obi wan would try to be there a lot for anakin, both peacefully at the temple and on the front limes of battles. Missions such as the 2nd battle of geonosis and battle of christophsis would still be taken together.
    I also believe the council would offer anakin the choice to take ahsoka as an apprentice, instead of discreetly forcing it. Not sure if this anakin would take ahsoka though.
    Another thing I'm skeptical of is whether dooku would bring himself to kill qui gon in episode 2. It's only during the clone wars and by episode 3 I feel dooku has truly been consumed by the dark side and I dont think qui gon would be killed by dooku in ep 2.
    Also, I kinda think qui gon could be the person to fall out, I don't see qui gons presence changing obi wan or anakin falling out, I'd say either qui gon falls or none of them do.
    One last thing is that I believe qui gon, despite his age, would last a lot longer than obi wan and anakin did originally, and by that point yoda would have arrived to help.
    TL;DR obi wan and anakin probably still build relationship and qui gon survives episode 2, but perhaps dies shortly into the war.

    Actually between episode 2 and 3 there would be plenty of opportunities for Anakin and Padme to be reintroduced as well as Obi Wan and Anakin to have a brotherly (and less contentious) bond between them, They simply wouldn't of had the intervening years in between instead bonding over Qui Gon's death. Episode 3 though is debatable and good for headcannon.
