I’ve got a poorly 2010 Cooper 1.6 petrol R56 (Prince engine), Car throws P0015 code & sometimes engine light. Rough & lumpy idle when cold & erratic / lumpy when warm & as if it’s about to stall when coming to a halt or revs drop with no load. 82k miles, well maintained & timing chain kit was done at 61k. I’ve swapped the Cam position sensors front to back & P0015 code remains meaning sensors are reading ok. I’ve since read it can be the exhaust Vanos solenoid sticking causing the timing to read out of tolerance, the one front left under the oil filler is the exhaust solenoid, I’m going to investigate by cleaning and swapping the inlet & exhaust Vanos solenoids & see if it fixes or follows. Failing that, the timing could be out or chain & tensioners could be whacked! I’ve also got Catalyst & oxygen sensor fail on live emissions data, but car passed recent MOT & emissions; so that could be my software scan tool not reading right. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Do you need to perform this task after changing the vanos solenoid or even after removing it and giving it a clean?

Hi... Ive been searching on the internet about this exact error, 287D which is related to the Vanos from the intake right ?
So, that being said, that vanos needs to be substituted and after that, clear the errors just like you did on the video is that right ?
1st question - There are 1 or 2 vanos on the engine of my car ?
2nd question - If there are two, they are the same both on intake and exhaust ? I mean the vanos itself they are equal right ? (If i buy a Vanos to substitute, they both can be used either on intake or exhaust)
    Thanks in advance.

I have the same car/engine, it has 2 vanos solenoids: 1 for intake cam and 1 for exhaust cam. Last year I replaced the intake solenoid and fixed poor idle/rough running. I will go ahead and clean the exhaust vanos at some point, as I think I had contaminants/buildup in my oil. I don't know however if they are interchangeable, I think so, but do not take it for granted.

Tyrone Cruzado it won’t harm the engine but the the ECU may not recognise the new valve adaptions causes poorer fuel economy and can cause the engine to stall sometimes

@@theminigurus4299 Its named ENA Variable Timing Solenoid amd aparently is one of the main reason mini's having a misfire. I had one mini before 02 S and I changed the VC valve spark plugs etc...and keep misfiring so I gave up on that one.
