We just got our first guinea pig. They are sisters and are a rehome. The previous owner didn't have the time for them anymore. It's not our first small pet as we have had pet rats in the past. I am learning so much about temperament and getting them acclimated. They are really sweet and amazing little animals.

I mean they knocked over hidey house and tunneled under their fleece bedding…dropped beans in every corner. I was like what am I missing. TH-cam lied to me. Thanks for uncovering the truth lol

Years ago, we adopted two piggies from an elderly man who had to go into a nursing home, so we didn't know too much, and they faired well, but I wish we had more information. Absolutely fantastic; super cute, laughed out loud at the ‘now you see me now you don’t’ moment and I could watch Lyra and Pedro forever (ok they’re all beautiful!) … so important to keep saying advice like in this vlog and hopefully everyone thinking about getting piggies takes note! Great video! I love all of the “comments” from the peanut gallery (your piggies)…lol.. my son took in 2 male short hair guinea pigs that are 2 yo…. So I’m grandma to Chewy and Tucker.. We have had them for about 2 months now…. - and they both know that grandma is the bringer of treats, veggies and hay.. and most recently I’ve started doing lap time with Tucker (who is the more outgoing and tame piggy) - he loves to snuggle in my lap with a blanket - he just plops down and stares at me…. I will be trying Chewy next - he’s sweet but skittish

Even if my parents don’t allow me to get a guinea pig, I WILL get two at some point. They are my dream pet. I really need something to do with my day cause I’m always bored, I have a dog but since everyone in my house owns him, they always tell me “oh you’re doing this wrong, you’re doing that wrong” And I just want a life to take care of by myself. I clean when I’m bored, so my room is always clean so having a guinea pig would also always keep be busy. I’m 100% willing to spend every dime I have one those little cuties and give them fresh veggies every day! I’m so excited for when I get to take care of some, so I’m not so bored all the time. Everyone’s like “it’s not all fun and games, they’re loud, they’re messy, they’re a commitment” and I keeeeeep saying “that’s what I want. I really need a commitment right now.” And all guinea pig lovers have to agree with me, their noise is the cutest noise you’ve ever heard. I like having noise to go to sleep to. There’s nothing about guinea pigs that I’m not willing to embrace. I want to spend my every living moment with them. Nothing in this video is a problem to me lol
i agree guinea pigs are definitely not starter pets. In my life i’ve owned 2 fish, a dog, a hamster and now i have guinea pigs yet i don’t think i should’ve gotten them because of how much responsibility it takes. Luckily my mom helps me but not everyone is fortunate enough to have help
I love the captions every time one of them squeaks I love that it makes me laugh my guinea pigs are my guinea pigs are in my bedroom I keep them right next to me three cages right next to my bed head of my bed and there's two cages across from me on the wall you know so they all keep in touch with each other you know I have them out a lot they don't fight which is amazing but I just wanted to know how do I how do I get their nails trimmed because they're growing you know they're kind of growing clothes you know and a funky c shape you know but I take care of them everyday I I wash I give him a bath like twice a month and that's it you know especially in the summertime in the winter time I I wipe them up with wipes because the vet told me that they can catch pneumonia real quick

yes guinea pigs shouldn’t live alone as they are very social just like humans. and while you may be able to spend a lot of time with them, nothing compares to them having another piggy friend/friends as they can communicate properly together and they have a unique bond. a lot of single guinea pigs don’t live as long, and get depressed. if you aren’t able to get at least 2 guinea pigs, then you shouldn’t get them at all.
She's mentioned before that she got it from a German Etsy shop. I'm not sure what the name of the shop is but I know another Etsy shop called BlackPawWhitePaw also sell hammock stands for guinea pigs :)
Young piggies might easily get all the water they need from veggies, you could try giving both the water bottle and a water bowl for the time being - he will work out the bottle on his own. Consider getting him a friend if he is a lone piggie :)
When I go on a holiday my grandma is here to take care of my little brother while me and my parentale are away buț my little brother will not be little forever. Is it ok for them if my grandma goes like twice a day at my house to look after them? My grandma can go anytime at my house cus she lives near me

Great video, Sarah! You know, my piggy Velvet had surgery Wednesday, she had her ovaries removed, not a full spay, it's called a flank spay, they make a small incision on each side of the body, where they're chubby, lol, and just take out the ovaries, not the uterus. She's doing really well, my vet said when I picked her up on Thursday, she's doing really great for 24 hours after surgery, I was so encouraged! So she's been home for 2 days, and doing great, she wants to jump back into her cage with her 2 friends, lol! Of course she's in her recovery cage now, next to her usual cage, but desperately wants her friends! Tomorrow I may give her a visit with them, just for maybe a half hour, with me keeping a watchful eye on them, of course! One of her ovarian cysts were the size of a chick pea, can you imagine?! What a terrible condition it is that they're prone to, but I think if I got my piggies from a professional breeder, they would have had less problems with this. This was my third piggy that had to have surgery, out of 5 females! Keep us in your thoughts and prayers, I wanted to give you an update!

Sometimes guinea pig rescues will run a "piggie dating" service to help bond awkward piggies! Getting a baby pig also increases the chance they will get along, as does having a large enough cage so they don't have to share too much :)
Okay I have five guinea pigs three boys two girls it will soon be three and three I have another guinea pig coming to me because a resident where I do security work at can't take his wife doesn't want it in the house no more so he's going to give it to me to take care of but my question is how do I get them to sit through a nail trimming without taking him to the vet I'm the only one in the house no one who will help me my sister-in-law help me but she lives in another city so I have nobody to help me how do I do this by myself most of my guinea pigs will let me but the boys won't

How many guineas total do you suggest I get? I've never owned Guinea pigs before but I have a 16 sqr foot cage and I'm wondering if I should get two, three or even four? I was thinking maybe just two because I think that they would both get more attention that way but what do you think?

Hi, my guinea pig has cuts on her back which need antibiotics and the vet has told me she has lice and this is what has caused the cuts.the vet told me I need to put the lice treatment somewhere she can’t lick but not on the cuts. Do you have any suggestion? Ty
Yes, you must use ivermectin, like Xeno, follow the dosage, usually a few drops on the back of her ears. Repeat 7 to 10 days apart, 3 times in total. Make sure you treat the lice fast, it sounds like mange which is horribly painful (the mites bury into the skin), but as soon as the invermectin kicks in the mites die your piggie will be much more comfortable. All your pigs need treatment even if they don't have symptoms yet. Best of luck 😊
hey Sarah! we r planning to get guinea pigs and in India we don't have rescue so we r planning to buy in a pet store. also I am not able to find a vitamin c tablets and the pellets I found are called boltz so could u say is that ok after checking it out ....u can check it on google .love ur vids Sarah!
There are also owners that keep piggies without feeding pellets or vitamin c drops. Unlimited hay, a proper amount of vegetables and water can be enough. Just look up which veggies they can eat that contain enough vitamin c :)
I am 9 and I have no idea what the piggy standards chart means but does anybody know how many females I can keep in a 144x112x60cm enclosure, I’ve been doing research.
Which is the length and width measurements? 144 by 112 and 144 by 60 are good sizes, but 112 by 60 is a touch small for two piggies. If you type it into google like this "length in cm x width in cm in square feet" it will tell you what the cage is in square feet so you can use the chart :)
I have found something much cheaper at Kmart, it’s a c&c shelf but It comes with 52 grids and each grids length is 30cm(Ruler) and the width is also 30cm(ruler) will that make a good size?
You need to show you are responsible and can do all their chores and cleaning yourself, also that you have learnt about them and know all the reasons why a pair of piggies is better than one. You might have to increase your cage size - you could save up for this yourself to prove you are serious about them? After a cage upgrade, two piggies is not that much more work than one and they really will be happier for it :D

Yes, however I would question why you want to wait and whether it is necessary. If you want a pair of piggies, just get two from the start and both will be happier with the company :)

Haha oh no! They are messy little creatures, I think there are ways to deter fleece digging, but as for the beans, lots of spot cleaning!

Young piggies might easily get all the water they need from veggies, you could try giving both the water bottle and a water bowl for the time being - he will work out the bottle on his own. Consider getting him a friend if he is a lone piggie :)

Great video, Sarah! You know, my piggy Velvet had surgery Wednesday, she had her ovaries removed, not a full spay, it's called a flank spay, they make a small incision on each side of the body, where they're chubby, lol, and just take out the ovaries, not the uterus. She's doing really well, my vet said when I picked her up on Thursday, she's doing really great for 24 hours after surgery, I was so encouraged! So she's been home for 2 days, and doing great, she wants to jump back into her cage with her 2 friends, lol! Of course she's in her recovery cage now, next to her usual cage, but desperately wants her friends! Tomorrow I may give her a visit with them, just for maybe a half hour, with me keeping a watchful eye on them, of course! One of her ovarian cysts were the size of a chick pea, can you imagine?! What a terrible condition it is that they're prone to, but I think if I got my piggies from a professional breeder, they would have had less problems with this. This was my third piggy that had to have surgery, out of 5 females! Keep us in your thoughts and prayers, I wanted to give you an update!

Sometimes guinea pig rescues will run a "piggie dating" service to help bond awkward piggies! Getting a baby pig also increases the chance they will get along, as does having a large enough cage so they don't have to share too much :)

Okay I have five guinea pigs three boys two girls it will soon be three and three I have another guinea pig coming to me because a resident where I do security work at can't take his wife doesn't want it in the house no more so he's going to give it to me to take care of but my question is how do I get them to sit through a nail trimming without taking him to the vet I'm the only one in the house no one who will help me my sister-in-law help me but she lives in another city so I have nobody to help me how do I do this by myself most of my guinea pigs will let me but the boys won't

You can make lids for them with the grids that you can lift on an off. Kavee do cages with lids so you could look on their website for inspiration :)
How many guineas total do you suggest I get? I've never owned Guinea pigs before but I have a 16 sqr foot cage and I'm wondering if I should get two, three or even four? I was thinking maybe just two because I think that they would both get more attention that way but what do you think?

Fleece liners go in the machine and I use F10 disinfectant in the litter tray and cage base/sides when I do a full change :)
Hi, my guinea pig has cuts on her back which need antibiotics and the vet has told me she has lice and this is what has caused the cuts.the vet told me I need to put the lice treatment somewhere she can’t lick but not on the cuts. Do you have any suggestion? Ty
Yes, you must use ivermectin, like Xeno, follow the dosage, usually a few drops on the back of her ears. Repeat 7 to 10 days apart, 3 times in total. Make sure you treat the lice fast, it sounds like mange which is horribly painful (the mites bury into the skin), but as soon as the invermectin kicks in the mites die your piggie will be much more comfortable. All your pigs need treatment even if they don't have symptoms yet. Best of luck 😊

also I am not able to find a vitamin c tablets and the pellets I found are called boltz so could u say is that ok after checking it out ....u can check it on google .love ur vids Sarah!
There are also owners that keep piggies without feeding pellets or vitamin c drops. Unlimited hay, a proper amount of vegetables and water can be enough. Just look up which veggies they can eat that contain enough vitamin c :)

I am 9 and I have no idea what the piggy standards chart means but does anybody know how many females I can keep in a 144x112x60cm enclosure, I’ve been doing research.
Which is the length and width measurements? 144 by 112 and 144 by 60 are good sizes, but 112 by 60 is a touch small for two piggies. If you type it into google like this "length in cm x width in cm in square feet" it will tell you what the cage is in square feet so you can use the chart :)
I have found something much cheaper at Kmart, it’s a c&c shelf but It comes with 52 grids and each grids length is 30cm(Ruler) and the width is also 30cm(ruler) will that make a good size?

You need to show you are responsible and can do all their chores and cleaning yourself, also that you have learnt about them and know all the reasons why a pair of piggies is better than one. You might have to increase your cage size - you could save up for this yourself to prove you are serious about them? After a cage upgrade, two piggies is not that much more work than one and they really will be happier for it :D

Yes, however I would question why you want to wait and whether it is necessary. If you want a pair of piggies, just get two from the start and both will be happier with the company :)
