I just rescued four female three year olds and your channel has been so unbelievably helpful. thank you for sharing this knowledge. my piggies are in better care because of YOU! what fun and beautiful pets.
You are BRILLIANT!!! I just took the hay racks out of the cage last night and put a huge hay pile in their “kitchen”. Basically that one section of the cage is separate from the rest of the cage with a little doorway for them to go through. Almost all the poops are now contained in the kitchen area now and the rest of the cage looks pretty darn good! Thanks for all the helpful tips!!! I’ll continue to follow your channel closely ❤️🙂
Yay new video! I just bonded my piggies together and they are really happy now! I did the exact same things as you and indeed most poops are in the litter tray, so great!
I just bought 2 Guinea pigs 🐹 for my family (the kids and I are in love 🥰). I was looking for how to litter train them and your video came up, I’m happy I found this. It was so helpful and I’m going to try your suggestions. Thank you 🙏🏿 And I just had to subscribe, I look forward to learning more from you. Thank you ☺️
this was so helpful thank you sarah! my children have been asking for piggies for over a year now and finally agreed so have been researching for months now and you are the main person i have been watching for advice! we now have a large kavee cage ordered for our large kitchen and have been in touch with a local reacue which hopefully will have 4 sows for us in June time when we return from our family holiday (so we can give then our full attention whilst they settle in) thank you so much for all your informative videos, your piggies are all such characters and we have a soft spot for phoebe! much love the rice household ❤
I have been following your channel since before. I got guinea pigs and have taken your advice. I am still learning even after owning them for about a year, but my cage has gotten to the point where I only have to do a full cage clean about every 2 to 3 weeks, depending on how consistent I am with adding extra lighters and bathmats, it is not only save me money but time as I have a disability and deep cleaning is very hard on me. Thank you for all the education you have given us.❤
Not sure if anyone has said this yet, but the reason your pigs might be attracted to behind the tv stand/near the radiator, is the electrical wires. Rodents like pigs hear a humming sound from electrical wires and that draws them to nibble on them, which can obviously be very dangerous. So great that you're keeping them away from those areas. Thanks for all the great advice!
I'm getting my new 2 guinea pigs by a breeder this weekend, and I've been trying to get good videos to watch and when i found this channel it has just been so helpful!!! Your videos are really amazing! :)
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!! After watching this, I gave the boys a hay box in their night box (they live in an outdoor hutch on our deck, or back lawn, during the day), and they are using the back corner of that as their toilet, so I'm not having to change their fleece every single day anymore.

I am getting them this summer and i've been binge watching your videos and written down information of how I should take care of them. You are so reliable and very easy to understand. I use all of your tips and tricks! It has made me a much better piggie mum to my three girls. My husband loves our piggies and finds it very easy to tidy up after them too. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos! I appreciate you and your time so very much.
Having a big collection of piddle pads has been a game changer for me. I rotate them during daily spot cleaning and they double up as a comfy sleeping pad for my girls too, much easier to fill up a laundry bag with them and do the occasional load between a full cage clean. My girls are odd though, they use their hay tray but their favourite place to do their business is their loft! We get huge amounts of peeps and poops up there and it gets it's own deep clean every few days. The downstairs main cage stays much cleaner, I just find it so odd their favourite toileting spot is somewhere that seems more exposed 😂 Really though, thank you for the tips and education. I've had piggies for 11 years but still have plenty of learn, and have picked up some invaluable lessons from you! ( Hay tray included, what a revelation in keeping things tidy that was!)
Loved seeing all the girls (Sarah and the piggies) and Roxy's little run to tell Phoebe about her discovery had me laughing. Happy Easter blessings to all at Squeak Dreams
Loved this video! I never thought it possible, but my Harriet is pretty much potty trained, except for a couple stray poops, she goes in the corner where I put her hay. I put a lot,top it off and she is funny as i know when she goes. She used to pee in her hidey, but since I kept using fleece and I have found that she loves to stay clean and she does't do that anymore. Thank you for your great tips--also, i switched to a bigger home and that was a plus!
The liter tray is amazing, it's a game changer. I have a little fleece water fall I put over the tray and they 90% go in there. Also super happy with so much hay in the tray! 😊

You have been such a huge help! Of course I did plenty of research but you’ve had a lot of tips I haven’t gotten other places. Do you have any videos about having a single male? This is so helpful I have 2 piggies one who likes to climb and escape and one who is always wet no matter how often I change her the struggle is real lol
Hi Sarah, I want to start off by saying I love your channel! I have been fostering 2 male guinea pigs due to their owner experiencing a medical emergency with a brain hemorrhage. He is still in recovery and we have now decided to fully adopt the piggies as he feels he can't take care of them anymore. I have purchased a new C&C cage and want to give them a whole new setup as their cage before was way too small and not ideal for piggies. I love your setup and want to do the litter tray as well. How often do you top the hay? How often do you do a full clean out of litter tray? I have never owned guinea pigs before, so I am learning as I go. Any advice or tips is greatly appreciated! I have fallen in love with these two piggies and want to give them the best life possible. Thank you so much! You have truly helped me learn all about piggies the last month! Diana
It's also good to have water bottles and food bowls in litter trays. I have a really big one for their hay, and two with a food bowl and water bottle. Each pig has been different but this makes them a lot more likely to go to the toilet in them.
@@SqueakDreams Pigs turn the phrase don't shit where you eat on it's head! 😂 There's still some mess in the cosier spots, but they just love to combine snack/drink time with toilet time.
Thank you so much this is really helpful. I don’t often have time to clean my piggies cage very often every day so potty training would definitely be helpful. I have changed from sawdust to fleece which has helped so much and it means less throwing away and less waste. If anyone has taken the time to read this does any one have some tips to stop piggies chewing EVERYTHING! I know that dogs have a no chew spray but I don’t know if there is any for pigs? So does anyone have any tips? Thank you so much. ❤️
I have a rabbit who’s free roam and potty trained. My little sister’s friend just asked me to take her guineas they are in a tiny tiny cage (they meaning 2) they don’t have that good of a diet and are unhandled so here I am. Learning how to tame them
Hi, I have a question! So I have had my guinea pigs for about six or seven months until they are still very shy, and will run away from me and hide them to their hinds! I’m not sure why they are doing this. Veggies every morning and I tried to hold them often to get used to me. Tips?
That's normal for two scared piggies, you can encourage them to eat by placing hay (note they need LOTS of fresh good quality ha) and pellets at the entrance to wherever they are hiding, and set up a water bowl until you know they are using the bottles.
You are the best Guinea Pig channel!I learned almost everything from you and I'm gallery I forgot about you! Hopefully only day I I can get my own piggies! :3 Edit:What's a front's name when you make the piggies "talk"?
Amazing birthday present! A video from my favourite youtuber! I do think I will use a litter box in the future when I have piggies. Hay racks are bad 😅 I went to the zoo today and saw like 50 guinea pigs 😂😂. They were soo cute. Was worried where you were but now I know. See you next week! ~Beatrise
Hello I’m thinking about getting Guinea pigs and I have done loads of research and watched a lot of your videos and I was wondering how much veggies should I give them I plan on getting 3 or 2?
Hi Sarah, great tip about hanging fleece over a corner of the cage. I was wondering do you know if it's bad for pigs to eat newspaper? I can't find a clear answer to this. I worry when mine managed to sneak under their bedding hay & munch on it.
Hi. I have 2 boys who seem to soil more than my first pair of guinea pigs. I feel like their pads need to be changed out every 2 to 3 days. It just seems to get gross if I wait beyond this time frame. I use fleece bedding, noodle mats, and little piggy size fleece "beds". Am I changing too often?
Hi Sarah I'm just wondering are you getting a new addition to the herd I think it would be amazing if you got a new boar btw I got a another piggie for my 2 boars so now I have 3 and it took 3 months to bond them but now there are no fights and the reason there are bonded so good is cuz of you I watched all your bonding vids and followed what you siad to do btw this is random but I got a guinea pig shirt for Easter lol
My sows are amazingly potty trained, including one mama's 2 pups(1 is a boy). But my boars... oh my older boars. They love pooping everywhere EXCEPT the litter box. 🥲 My older boars came from the same place, I suspect their mother wasn't toilet trained or they were taken away too early. Why? Because my mama pig taught her 2 pups very quickly on where to poo and pee! I find it better if the litter box is covered with a cardboard box or sheet (they like their privacy). P.S. Where did you get those table x hammocks!? 😍😍😍
Little confused- where are you keeping the hay that you encourage them to eat? Versus the hay for litter box? I only see it in the one place. Totally new to this and trying to figure out the best set up for us.
Thank you a lot, it was so helpful! ❤ Nevertheless I have a question that bothers me a lot… it’s about the wooden hammock. So I got my piggies one and they just constantly try to chew on it😢 I can’t say it’s completely destroyed but…the look is unpleasant already. What suggestions would you give?
A bit off-topic. We got 2 young male guinea pigs a week 1/2 ago. At first, the black one kept mounting the brown one, the dominance game. But once we had them in the house, it was always the black one that ran into their house and the brown one showing us more curiosity as we communicated with them. For the first week, then, the brown one was mounting the black one, suddenly showing that HE was boss. But NOW, as of a few days ago, it's the black one mounting the brown again - now that he's starting to feel braver around us. Do guinea pigs always "take turns" to show who's dominant? Or is this only when they're youngsters?
I just got a baby not that long ago and I swear he potty trained himself! He only goes peepee in 2 spots and made me know where they were so I always know to put bedding there
I've got a question, where do you get the fleece you put on the bottom of your cage and what kind of material is it? Thank you for the useful video, your piggies are adorable♡
do u have any hay recommendations other than timothy hay? i live in australia and timothy hay is extremely expensive and ive been trying to save up my own money to buy some but my parents would not allow me to spend $20 aud for 450 grams of hay
Timothy hay is mainly grown in north America, everywhere else in the world has to import it which means it's very expensive and only available in small quantities. It's just a species of grass, it isn't particularly better than other grass species it's just so widely available there it's really popular. I live in the UK, so I don't know what is available in Australia. Our hay tends to be either Orchard or Meadow hay, it tends to be a wide mixture of species of grasses and herbs. It's been grown like this here for several centuries so we don't have monoculture hay crops like they do in America.
@@scifirocks for me orchard hay is just the same price as timothy hay and my piggies dont really eat meadow hay i feed them oaten hay (they dont eat it much but they still eat it) as it is very cheap but they dont really like it
Good question! But no, multi level cages aren't suitable for guinea pigs, because the minimum floor area (e.g. 10.5 square feet for two pigs) should be on a single flat level. Guinea pigs are not agile, some will not use ramps, and they like to get the 'zoomies' and run laps of a single level large area for exercise. I recommend looking into DIY C&C cages (you can buy the materials and make yourself very easily). Hope this helps!
hii i have a question so i have tried fleece liners with my piggies but both of them got in the habit of crawling under it is there a way to convince them not to do that? :)
I'm trying it once more with a guinea I'm taking care of. He is used to wood lining is still being trained. I belive I change my fleece liner very often (every 3 days) and its becoming tiresome. I have pee pads but I have the idea the fleece is smelly... maybe the smell just comes from the litter box
As soon as my girls touch the floor they baptize it with pee pee ..😅..l change their fleece twice a day ,if l don't they turn their house upside down ..when l go downstairs in the morning say Hello girls , housecleaning is here 😂

We had 2 very clean girls and now we have 2 new piggies and they are 4 dirty piggies !!!
I find your tips and advice so helpful! Thank you for all that you share with us. I appreciate you. ❤
Great info. Roxie's comment made me laugh. 😂 Happy Easter to you and the girls!❤⚘️🪻🌷🪺
Hi Sarah,
I want to start off by saying I love your channel!
Useful tip thank you! Will have to try this when we have a bigger cage 😄
@@SqueakDreams Pigs turn the phrase don't shit where you eat on it's head! 😂
There's still some mess in the cosier spots, but they just love to combine snack/drink time with toilet time.
Learning how to tame them
I'll be sure to give some of these a go! Thank you for the video
What is the other hay you use for the bedding box besides the Timothy Hay? I didn't see it on your amazon list. thanks!
I love the piggies ❤️
Those wings...eek eek eek 😆 (helpful video👍)
Your advice and your tips are always great 😊!!
Once again, a wonderful video of tips for potty training 😀 👌 🤗✨️
Hi, I have a question!
So I have had my guinea pigs for about six or seven months until they are still very shy, and will run away from me and hide them to their hinds! I’m not sure why they are doing this. Veggies every morning and I tried to hold them often to get used to me. Tips?
Thanks, this was very helpful. My boys poop a lot so hopefully these tips will work
Hi! This knowledge is so helpful. I have 2 new piggies but they're not eating or drinking. Got them today. Do you have any advice?
That's normal for two scared piggies, you can encourage them to eat by placing hay (note they need LOTS of fresh good quality ha) and pellets at the entrance to wherever they are hiding, and set up a water bowl until you know they are using the bottles.
@@SqueakDreams thank you so much!
You are the best Guinea Pig channel!I learned almost everything from you and I'm gallery I forgot about you!
Hopefully only day I I can get my own piggies! :3
Edit:What's a front's name when you make the piggies "talk"?
You have earnt a sub 🥳
My baby potty trained himself ;)
Phoebe is so funny
Very useful idea’s
They are so cute❤
This is SO helpful!
Amazing birthday present! A video from my favourite youtuber!
I do think I will use a litter box in the future when I have piggies. Hay racks are bad 😅
I went to the zoo today and saw like 50 guinea pigs 😂😂. They were soo cute.
Was worried where you were but now I know.
See you next week!

Happy birthday!!! Hope you've had a great day! It's been a bit busy here but we're all good 😃🌻
Happy Birthday!!
I have a question, where do you get the large boxes of Timothy hay? Send me a link if able!
Please can u do some tips on how to take care a fully blind Guinea pig
Hello I’m thinking about getting Guinea pigs and I have done loads of research and watched a lot of your videos and I was wondering how much veggies should I give them I plan on getting 3 or 2?
What size is your under bed storage box you use as a hay box could you give me the measurements I’m wanting to find one as big as yours ❤
Sarah ..all they wanted was privacy in the bathroom !! 😂
My older boars came from the same place, I suspect their mother wasn't toilet trained or they were taken away too early.
Totally new to this and trying to figure out the best set up for us.
my guinea pigs are so dirty and cute at the same time.
Which size tub do u use for your litter tray?
Thank u l just need this!!!
Thank you a lot, it was so helpful! ❤
Nevertheless I have a question that bothers me a lot… it’s about the wooden hammock.
I imagine teaching the guinea pigs how to push the handle to flush their tiny toilets.
😂 they'd be on and off the loo constantly
My Leo was a very tidy pig and always went in one corner, until Spike told him he didn't need to, he could go anywhere and the slave will clean up 😂
I just got a baby not that long ago and I swear he potty trained himself! He only goes peepee in 2 spots and made me know where they were so I always know to put bedding there
I will definitely try this for my sweet girls
I've got a question, where do you get the fleece you put on the bottom of your cage and what kind of material is it? Thank you for the useful video, your piggies are adorable♡
I use fleece throws from primark/B&M and make them into liners with mattress protectors 😊
do u have any hay recommendations other than timothy hay? i live in australia and timothy hay is extremely expensive and ive been trying to save up my own money to buy some but my parents would not allow me to spend $20 aud for 450 grams of hay
@@scifirocks for me orchard hay is just the same price as timothy hay and my piggies dont really eat meadow hay i feed them oaten hay (they dont eat it much but they still eat it) as it is very cheap but they dont really like it
Can piggies be put safely in a multi level cage such as a chinchilla or ferret cage?
Good question! But no, multi level cages aren't suitable for guinea pigs, because the minimum floor area (e.g. 10.5 square feet for two pigs) should be on a single flat level. Guinea pigs are not agile, some will not use ramps, and they like to get the 'zoomies' and run laps of a single level large area for exercise. I recommend looking into DIY C&C cages (you can buy the materials and make yourself very easily). Hope this helps!
I have been watching your channel for 2 years so I can get a ginny pig.
hii i have a question so i have tried fleece liners with my piggies but both of them got in the habit of crawling under it is there a way to convince them not to do that? :)
You can put bricks or some other heavy object to hold down the fleece,
I got that it was Timothy hay on the top, but what’s the bottom, or bulk of the hay?
Meadow hay❤

Where do you get your play toys for your Guinea pigs from?
mrs squeak dreams, may i tell your a story?
How long did it take you to potty train them?
What kind of food do they eat ?
I'm trying it once more with a guinea I'm taking care of. He is used to wood lining is still being trained. I belive I change my fleece liner very often (every 3 days) and its becoming tiresome. I have pee pads but I have the idea the fleece is smelly... maybe the smell just comes from the litter box
As soon as my girls touch the floor they baptize it with pee pee ..😅..l change their fleece twice a day ,if l don't they turn their house upside down ..when l go downstairs in the morning say Hello girls , housecleaning is here 😂
Where do you get your Guinea pigs?
My guinea pigs don't want to use the snacks as there bathrooms lol, they like using a cardboard box from staples instead.
Plastic bin is bad bc the could choke on it but great vid
Omg Callie is growing up too fast how old she now 😭 it makes me remember my piggies when they were babies they grow up way too fast
She's 10 months old, whaaaat! 😮
@Squeak Dreams omg noooooo she's becoming grown up piggy she must stay baby forever
