So what do people do if one dies and they just need one to pair with the one at home or how about Guinea pigs with extreme aggression towards others of its kind?
@@karebearsanimalhouse7195 okay, I just know that I had a Guinea pig I tried bonding and couldn't because she was just aggressive. (She was attacked by one at her past home bad enough she had to get stiyches so she remembered that and attacked and tried to kill other guinea pigs) Then a pair I did have before 1 died and the other was depressed so I got another and bonded them together, so I was wondering in those cases what they would do?

My sister got a guinea pig once but she just got so depressed and sat in her house all day. She was really sad. I bothered my parents so much until we got another guinea pig and she just lit up. You could tell that she needed a friend. She was so happy and still is to this day
Yeah i pains me so much to see the tiny cages rabbits are kept in. They need so much more room than most people are willing to give so I'm glad you're aware of that
I wouldn’t even buy the first cage for a mouse. When I had my piggy he literally took up half my room, was closed off with a pen and the entire thing was his playground I loved it. I miss him ugh
My hamsters cage was about the size of the one with the grass design just with a second smaller floor where he wanted his toilet to be. The space between the bars was a lot smaller though or even my chunky boy would have slipped out of this one.
Thank you Saskia, for offering this advice, explaining the problems with each cage, and most of all… being respectful and kind while doing so! 🙂 I see far too many “shaming” and clickbait “they were living in WHAT!?1?” type videos out there, and I really believe they hurt a lot more than they help. Getting people to hear what you’re saying and take your advice on pet care doesn’t work well, when you start things off by mocking, insulting, and shaming them. 😑 I can hardly stand to watch those channels, even though my enclosures are all “up to their standards”… just because I can’t stand the pompous egos and superior attitudes. I wish all pet care channels were like yours, Saskia-super-informative, friendly, welcoming, and never condescending or petty! ❤
This makes me feel very proud of the life I am giving my guinea pigs. They have a very large cage with many different hides and toys. I'm happy I can know I'm giving them the life they deserve
My husband had the idea to take a medium sized kiddie pool and make it into a piggie pen. We originally had a basic cage they sell at the pet store , and just felt so horrible that they were in an actual cage. Big open space is absolutely made a difference in our Mr Oreo’s over all mood and personality. Love your videos!
Is there any possible way I could see this cage setup?! It sounds like it would be a great idea! (I have 5 different cage setups, for I have 12 guinea pigs).
This is actually 5,000 IQ! I love enclosures that are more in the gate/cage realm but I would need something like a kiddie pool underneath. Off to the store I go!!
@@dogsrsoawesome i use 2 large kiddie pools and connect them with a large pvc tube. I got the idea from pics on pinterest. I have 5 girls so they plenty of space!
I gave a question. We gave a name guinea pig that we adopted. I do not know his age. I would love to get him a friend but I don't want babies. Is another male okay to get or what should I do?
I have 3 boys and they are absolute angels! I rescued them from a farm that was closing down and they are perfect together! Thank u so much for your info! You have made my life and my piggies lives so much better ❤️
Great video Saskia. It always saddens me when guinea pig owners buy pet store size cages. Yes they’re small animals, but they need a bigger space to truly thrive and be happy
For that reason that guinea pigs have predictors you need to make a sacrifice and supervise them for 1 or 2 hours a day when you let them out. If your willing to do that they will have a much happier life. They will run back inside the cage if you have a little door and you put a chopped carrot in. Then place a brick to close entrance.
I want an out building for my piggies. Ive had them for over a year. I clean everyday and it is so disgusting to have them inside my home. They constantly piss and shit everywhere. After washing fleece liners in my washing machine for a few months I had to get a new machine. All my family's clothing, bedding, and towels smelled like guinea piss.
Bruno was like “excuse me! Having private time thank you k bye!” Also thank you for these vids. I’m in the process of getting ready for some guinea pigs, and I’m doing as much research as possible.
This is very true. I work at a pet store and the ones we sell are way too small. When we sell guinea pigs and they want the cage we have and I tell them it’s only temporary but I advise them to get a bigger one and the bigger the better! 😊
You have such a great knowledge of piggies! I got the Midwest cage and I'm in love with it. It's so easy to clean and we do pick them up or pet them and feed them veggies. It's much better to have the open top cage. Also I'm so glad you have taught others to have 2 piggies. Mine love to play together and talk💗
@@sniperthelab9011 You can free roam guinea pigs, and they can indeed be litterbox trained. My guinea pigs are a proof of it. Of course, just like with any other animal, sometimes they just miss by peeing before going into the litterbox fully. But they still behave better than my cat who misses like 90% of the time 😓
This video made me feel like crap... I bought the little 28in cage you showed in the video with a single female from Petco.. I had to order the Midwest cage right after this video and plan on grabbing up a second female "hopefully from the same little cage at petco were mine came from'
The midwest cage is pretty big! I felt bad because I had my piggies in a small cage for a while, then one died which made the situation even worse. So then I bought two more pigs and the midwest cage, I'm almost 6 ft tall and I lay comfortably in it!
Hi! I’m going to get two piggies hopefully and I’m wonder about the Midwest cage. Is it a god cage and are you using the double unit or just one unit? Sorry to waste your time just want them to get there best life!
i have 6 females. they live outdoors (i live in australia) and they have a big veggie patch with walls, its overgrown with grass (once they eat it down too much they are moved to a pen with a run). it has 2 hutches, pipes, igloos, hay rack and bridges. they love it so much and its so nice walking out there and them running to the edge and hopping on my hand
The thing I noticed about Guinea Pigs is that if you treat them well, they have no interest in escaping. They are quite happy in their cage. I use an open C&C cage.
That's true. My old boar used to "escape", wander around my child proof living room, hide and go back to his cage lol. He couldn't go long without eating and drinking.
Same, my piggie used to open the side of his cage, but never go out of it haha. He just wants to show ' mummy, look how smart I am! I can open this cage'. Now he doesn't do it anymore, but I was never worried he would escape. Because when I am holding him, I like to put him on the floor and he will just walk to his cage by himself and wait there until I put him in. 😁
I know this post is 2 years old but I don't want anyone coming across it to feel bad for no reason. There are exceptions! How horrible to say they will only escape if they're treated poorly. I have 3 girls, in a 15 square foot space, they get plenty of attention, their cage is clean, I put down snuffle mats, have treats, hidey holes and rearrange it often so they're entertained, even take them out for floor time with hide-and-seek snack time. One of my guinea pigs constantly was escaping until she was about 1½ years old, I kept increasing the height of the wall and finally after she could jump over 17 inches I put a cover on for her own safety. She was just incredibly exploratory as a teenager it had nothing to do with her being mistreated. In fact every person who comes across her is astounded at how sociable and well behaved she is, even her vet! Guinea pigs have personalities! My other 2, want nothing to do with the outside world unless they hear plastic because then they think they're getting snacks. Even today the one will still threaten to jump out if I'm nearby so I take her out so she can follow me around the house. I guess she just likes me that much
I just got 2 guinea pigs today, and I got the first one and within the next month I am saving up for a much huger cage. We rescued them and it was kind of sudden. So when they are settled in I’m gonna make sure that they are happy.
My mother, husband and I just built a c and c cage for our two girls . After returning two cages from petco in the last four days. I complained to the manger after both his employees recommended these cages to me . I set them up and realized how tiny it was ! Now they have a two story c and c cage !
strawberrie gatcha the stores don’t sell cages adequate enough and employees are pushed to sell and do their job so they’re gonna recommend what’s in stock
I don't mean to be rude, but some employees (and managers) really don't have any idea about the animals living needs. It's the same with the manufacturers of the cages. Waaaay too small 😢.
i still love watching these videos even after getting my pigs. I want to thank the rescue because you guys gave me the confidence to get guinea pigs! and thank goodness you guys exist because i think back on how much i didn’t know it and blows me away. forever grateful ❤️
My 12 yr old daughter has had her 1st Guinea pig, Oreo for about year and she is obsessed with him. I just found your videos today and have watched many of them and they are very informative and fun to watch. Your passion for animals shines so bright. I'm going to share your videos with her. When I grow up I want to have guinea pigs and I'm going to have an extra room in my house to have guinea pigs so my dog and cat won't be able to go near them
I think cats doesn't attack guinea pig. Only if your cat is very aggressive. I had a cat and two guinea pigs, never happened anything. And I saw a lot of pictures of guinea pigs with cats and dogs, so again, cats doesn't eat guinea pigs
Yes but I think mine would play with it to death if unsupervised to be honest I have 3 cats so I don’t wanna risk it lol and my German shepherd is very high drive to squirrels and little animals and my guinea pigs if she could be but my other shepherd scared of them lol @Lanna Zing
For my 3 piggies my dad built me a cage of 16 sq feet and the bottom is tile then I use fleece blankets as a bedding. 😊 Also: all three of them are males and they get together quite well despite rumors that males won't get along!
Miss Saskia, I would just like to say. Besides having the Most Informative Piggie channel on The Tube! You also have the Prettiest nails on The Tube as well!! Thank you for sharing all your piggie knowledge with us. It's really priceless to use "Piggie Lovers"!!!
@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue i also think thats so good and you do a lot of good things for the piggis. There are so many people with no idea what they do to the piggis BUT you talks a lot about ONE or two piggis and ONE piggie nerver should be an option thats so bad! Guniea Pigs are extremly social and need a partner ir group to be happy.
I recently had to separate my two piggies and it broke my heart :( They lived together in a 3x4 C&C cage for a couple months until one began consistent chattering/nipping/protecting food. I hate having them separate (it doesn’t help that I don’t want to compromise their cage space even though I live in a tiny studio apartment), but I know it’s for the best. The submissive piggy has gained weight and seems more healthy and active now that they’re apart.
Thanks for the video! I bought a piggy from petsmart about a month ago (unfortunately I discovered LA GP Rescue after otherwise I would have adopted a baby from you) and I’ve learned so much. ❤️ I had the maroon Kaytee cage for my other guinea as a kid and I never knew it was too small. I now have a midwest habitat for my single sow and she’s in paradise. Love you Saskia!
Amber Dencker you should definitely consider getting another little piggy!! Your piggy will probably be even more happy and thrilled if she has a friend she can communicate with, but it is your decision wether or not to get another piggy!!!
These types of videos need to get out there more often. Im a guinea pig keeper in the u.k i am a member of theguineapigforum. Its a very active forum and i reccomend anyone who loves guinea pigs to join,Wherever in the world you happen to live 👍👍 it is uk based so is most active during uk active times. I have a rescued neutered boar with a sow and they are the most entertaining couple ive ever had ☺
Woo hoo! I have the cage that Bruno was in. I did a TON of research on piggies before I got mine, but I was still anxious to see if I had a good cage for my babies. Thanks for the video! It was very informative.
I ran a rescue myself for a few years. I found farm supply stores were greats places for inexpensive shavings & hay. You do have to buy large quantities, but if you have a place to store it, it will save you a lot of money. If you can't get free signs as you mentioned (I used to ask places that used coroplast signs to let me know when they were done with them), I found a sign store that would cut the sheets to size for me.
I know when I was younger, I had a guinea pig in a small cage like the red one. I didn't know any better and it's not like the pet store is helping that much regarding that. I did let her roam pretty often in a room under supervision (as I did for the rabbits, who also had too small cages :/ ) Now that I'm an adult and actually know better, I really want to make a DIY cage for rabbits/piggies and just do better than when I was a child.
Løûrd QwQ I got another piggie and a Midwest cage and they are LOVING it. I take them out for play time and they just run back over to their cage and try to get inside
I’m planning on getting a pair of guinea pigs, and I have a Midwest cage saved on Amazon while I’m still saving and researching - it’s great to know that it’s a quality habitat!
Thank you so much for spreading these important messages. It’s things that the majority of people still don’t know unfortunately so it’s super important to get these videos with good information out there. So many guinea pigs will thank you for this. ❤️
I had a cage like those all enclosed when I started, so I cut piggy size holes in the plastic bottom and put a huge c&c enclosure in front of it giving them tones of space to run around. Great job Saskia and team
I have that teal and white cage that Bruno is in!!! i'm about to get 2 guinea pigs and I didn't know if my cage was big enough, so i'm so happy you made this video!!!
Great video and so happy that you took up that guinea pigs need company of at least one other guinea pig. I have two lovely piggies and they have a big spacious shed and the whole back garden for themselves. They can choose when they like to go out. When we are there they come and spend time with us on the grass (open space) when we are not there they still come out but they stay more in the protected areas where they feel safe. Our back garden is not very big but it's very secluded. All the years we lived in the house we've never seen any predator animal like foxes or cats or other that could harm them. Our piggies aplear very happy and it's so lovely to see them together 💕
You must be in Europe! Sadly in the States we have many predators, it is always a worry on the ranch for the chickens even though they are all safely tucked away at night. I wish I could let the piggies free range outside like that but the hawks are everywhere here.
So I’ve just discovered that you can actually use a tent instead of spending a whole bunch of money and it works just as great! Also easier to clean and move around 🙌🏽 you can find on amazon as well!
I have that Oxbow cage! The whole entire side opens and you pull it down and turn it into a ramp. I attached the gate to it and left it that way permanently so they actually have lots of room to run around. My two boars love it.
I did get a couple of the Midwest cages but I was torn between that and a c&c cage but beginning I decided to get the Two Midwest and possibly later building a c&c cage or possibly using one for a separate play area.
Its AMAZING how they can show how important that getting the right size cage for animals. They didn't quite get the cage requirements right for ferrets and chinchillas but of course, they are a guinea pig rescue. At my house, my guinea pigs live in a shed; the shed is the cage itself. They have a lot of free roam space which I find really important. I can't stress enough to people that small cages are TERRIBLE for these babies. Some people are willing to change their pets lifestyle and their enclosure but some people can be really stubborn. So Saskia, Please make another video like this and include lots of information as people NEED to know why its so bad for guinea pigs. Right now, it is 2020 and I am commenting late but if you do read this, please make a video of why its so bad, explaining lots of dangers for them or so. Love you Saskia and all the people reading this. Ruthology x
I used to have one of those small cages from a pet store. We knew it wasn’t big enough so we attached a pen around it. Later on, we bought a large rabbit hutch that’s two stories and attached a play pen to that one, so they have *plenty* of space to run around! They don’t go upstairs very often, unless we’re cleaning the bottom. When we’re cleaning the bottom we put them at the top. I’ve had up to ten guinea pigs living in it with plenty of space!
I never buy pine shavings because I researched one time and found out that it’s toxic for them. I could have saved-so much money if I bought pine shavings a looooong time ago. Thank you for talking about bedding I really appreciate the tip! I always have to use carefresh because it’s soft for their feet but it’s true it never dries.
I used a pet store cage for about 1 1/5 to 2 years but I soon built a C&C cage and it’s been amazing! My piggy loves it and he’s 5 years old! I also used paper bedding at first but then changed to pine shavings later on. I wish I found your channel years ago. You all give such great advice!
Lizzy Giggles I’ve been begging to get him a friend for years but my parents won’t allow it. I always feel so bad when people say what you are saying because I sadly can’t do anything about it :(
I really like the national geographic (the second, green base) cage, except I use the “rabbit” sized one and took out the upper level/replaced with a wooden house. It’s quite lovely
Love your programme Saskia! Haven't had guinea pigs since my children were little and we had two. Before that, as a child myself, my brother and I kept a rabbit & guinea pig in an enclosure with a hutch and ramp within a pen outside. They lived until they were 7 years old and you are so right...the more they have space, the better....I am sure this helped them live long lives! The guinea pig used to sleep on the rabbit's back....it was so cute! Btw I am from the UK. X
I have a small herd of one neuterd boar and four sows in an 11 x 2 c and c cage on ikea tables, easy to reach. They also have ikea dolls beds to hide under! It is so strange that pet shops are ignorant about cage sizes. They just want to make moneyI suppose.
I have the same size but then put them out with a c &c cage on the floor and give them floor time they just love it. When they have had a cuuple of hours running and eating then they squeak and like to go back to there own cage. Then they sleep. All around happy content guinea pigs. 😀
This is informational, thank you! I have the 2nd cage you showed here and never realized that it was TOO SMALL for our girl. We have a very aggressive female that we rescued 2 years ago. She is going to be getting a significant cage upgrade now that I know!!!!
Then I realized I had a nice sized cage for two boys Btw I just put a tarp on a twin sized bunk bed (and it had sides of course) and then shredded newspaper for bedding and omg I saved SO much by doing that
I'm no expert but I BELIEVE that doing that may harm your Guinea Pigs because the ink might soak out from their pee! Just be careful, and once again, I am NOT and expert.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! My dad said we can't get another guinea pig unless we get a bigger cage and all of the bigger cages are 70 and over And the midwest cage is 34 and my dad just ordered
When I was 10, my parents got me 2 guinea pigs, we had the exact green one, I feel so bad now. I miss Max and Rider… (they’re not dead, we returned them because their hay triggered my brother’s asthma.) 😢🥺
Most of my guinea pigs don't like other guinea pigs. My boars would fight and draw blood so I had to put a divider in the c&c cage. The successful pairs we're usually female. However I do have a girl that I adopted that had to have stiches in her face because she fought another pig. There are exceptions but pigs usually need a friend. Just my 2 cents
My two guinea pigs had a 3X6 CC cage that took up half my room and they got a small almost midwestern size for when I had to clean the cage. They had a cage bigger then my bed! I love them so much
I never had any interest in Guinea Pigs but I like your rescue and videos. I love learning about animals, and I love rescues, and I like how you really educate people.
I'm not sure about guinea pigs, but with my rabbits I put them in a scoop fishing net and have someone hold it while I clip their nails with a pair of pet nail-trimming scissors (easier to control than toenail clippers, though I've used those too). The nails poke out through the netting, which also holds the hair out of the way, and I can move around to see where the vein ends within the nail to be sure I don't cut into it.
@@wendychavez5348 please don't put them in a fishing net rabbit nor Guinea pig!! That is just plain cruel! Rabbits dislike being picked up in general as they are prey animals but scooping them in a fishing net will stress them out so much if your rabbits don't like being picked up don't force it them!! Let them hop into a bed or something and pick the bed up. Also they are delacate animals if you scoop them in a fishing net yiu will have no idea what it can do!! I don't know where you learnt to do that but it is incorrect please watch some nail cutting videos and do it the way they say it
I love this vid, its very educational and is very clear with no big and fancy words. I have also been trying to persuade my parents into getting our piggies a bigger cage but they wont let me even when i say i will pay for it. So the next thing i am going to do is show them this vid and it just might do the trick!!
Your videos and Scotty's Animals have helped me tremendously. I've learned so much about our new guinea pigs, and proper caring for them. We just got our first 2 guinea pigs about a week ago.
all of theese tips are very helpful, however I do want to point out that the wood shavings can carry termites, and your guinea pig can get very sick from that. thats why I recommend the colorful bedding because its softer, and healthier for your guinea pig.
I have that blue cage for my piggies, as an emergency cage. I have a 5x6 c and c for my 3 girls. But we have tornados sometimes where I live so I put them in that. And I feel so bad just putting them in it for an hour😣 I can’t imagine animals living in that😪
I have the a similar cage to the 3rd one for my guinea pigs but it’s purely for sleeping inside it’s slightly bigger though . Throughout the entire day I keep them in a massive run and cage outside it’s just for at night so there not cold. I think my piggies live a very good life and have a good routine
i spend everyday watching videos on guinea pigs because i’m getting 2 for christmas or my birthday and i’m so exited! so i’ve been doing a lot of research. and these are SO helpful!
@@tinnycan5303 It's mostly because it's a rescue and space is harder to get when you have so much piggies. It's only temporary cages since most of them are up for adoption. They actually use many midwest and c&c cages, if you watch their videos. Also, many female piggies (I'm talking A LOT) can live in one huge enclosure - watch this th-cam.com/video/V8AFudpEZjM/w-d-xo.html All in all, they still receive their necessities and are well taken care of, just like any other rescue or pound.
I have 2 guiena pigs right now! Their cage is attached with a play pen so they have lots of room to run and popcorn and do zoomies! :) So my cage is huge! Thank you!
Gosh that red one is too small for my hamster even! My guinea pigs (2 rescue pigs) live in a 6ft long cage. They are allowed floor time but they always just jump back in their cage so we dont force them to come out for floor time.
I had the oxbow cage with the pen you had mentioned when I first got my pigs if anyone was curious about it, I would not recommend it as a viable option for permanent housing for your pigs. The pen was left open at all times and they enjoyed having both open and covered space, however they would push around the walls making it hard to line underneath, and both my pigs eventually figured out how to unhinge the walls and could escape no matter how I clamped it together!!! I got mine from their previous owner when I rehomed them, but with a $250 price tag just make a C&C cage instead, which I use now! If you need a covered cage (say you have other animals or kids you don't want to get inetc) the Midwest cage has a version with a cover , or the ferplast krolik 160 is a good size, bit under 10ft2 (only with the extension attached!)
I have the red cage for travel and wanting the midwest cage for him rn he is in a homemade cage probably the size of the grass pattern cage but I was still going to get that cage I'm half way there for the money (BTW i was never planning on getting him he was free and i had to take him before they took him to the pet store)
When I got my guinea pigs from someone, they already had a cage (the one with the grass bottom) and i already knew that it was too small, I built them a cage (5 months later, because I had to do the research, plan it out, and get the supplies) and they loveee their cage, it's bigger than the minimum for 3 (it's not c & c, but it is very similar, I used the old cage top and took the front and cage top opening off, than I flipped it over and added walls onto it to make it bigger, than i put corroplast in it for the bottom, they have plenty of space now) its kind of diy'ed, but it looks very similar to a c&c, it's kinda hard to explain, but it's an amazing size...I'm planning on making a c&c cage sometime in the future, because the one I made isn't the best shape, and i wanted to do it with white cubes
Saskia! Just wanted you to know I ordered Peter Gurneys book Piggy Potions via Amazon! They had one new book but it was $100++! But there were many gently used copies for sale and I bought one of those for just under $10! Just wanted to let you know. ❤️❤️❤️
I started with a cage that was the minimum size required for two piggies (120*60cm). Well, they didn't liked it at all, were irritating each other and had little fights. So I got myself two sets of the c&c system and made a cage which was 210*70cm but that was a bit too spacious for my living room. They were super happy though, were running, popcorning, made a lot of happy sounds and barely didn't fight anymore. My theory is that because I always have at least the same number of hidings as the amount of piggies, they didn't had enough space to exercise. Now their cage 175*105cm (for 4 piggies), so they have more square centimeters and I made sure the hidings are so lined up that they have all the space to run around. In a couple of months they will move to the next room and then they will get 280*105cm and somewhere in 2021 or 2022 I wat 2 more piggies, just to spread the ages a bit. 😊
I had two Guinea pigs they roamed free for years around our outside kitchen and ate our vegetable rests in the summer then came into our home in the cage in the winter it was so nice
TangerineTurtles even the big cages that she said you could house many piggies in are actually barely big enough for one and we all know guinea pigs are herd animals so all this video does is promote improper care
@@purplekitten3971 The L.A. GP Rescue takes many piggies that are surrendered. I have seen videos of a volunteer driving hours to rescue pigs as well. Many of the pigs they receive have bumblefoot, mange, ringworm, abscesses, etc... They are treated & nursed to good health. Saskia's videos have been a tremendous help in the care of my GP.
@@SugarBunHusky I dont think it is quarantine due to them still being exposed no matter what because they are wire cages. Maybe they have seperaters between each one. Who knows
I so love you said c&c cages! We had two 3×5 cages one for two boys and another for my 6 girls, and the girls had a second floor! They used to love to run and popcorn everywhere. Always go big! The bigger the better, they would love coming to you and stand up at the sides wanting interaction with you or a snack
Ok so, I have a question. So I used to have one piggy (unfortunately just one) and she had a vet that said she had mites or some bug. She (the vet) also saw the bedding we used (we used shavings,) and she said the bug was caused by the shavings, “they live in the shavings.” “The shavings are a home/breeding area for the bugs” etc. so is that true???

My sister got a guinea pig once but she just got so depressed and sat in her house all day. She was really sad. I bothered my parents so much until we got another guinea pig and she just lit up. You could tell that she needed a friend. She was so happy and still is to this day
It's really sad, I've even seen rabbits in all of these cage sizes. Thankfully, you guys are educating people about proper cage sizes.
Yet look in her grarage the pigs are in smaller than the 3 she showed
Yeah i pains me so much to see the tiny cages rabbits are kept in. They need so much more room than most people are willing to give so I'm glad you're aware of that
@@robincourchene1016 yeah I was wondering that too but I guess she just has rescued so many that her main priority is health and rehoming
@@robincourchene1016 cause thats temporary😂
You are so right
I wouldn’t even buy the first cage for a mouse.
When I had my piggy he literally took up half my room, was closed off with a pen and the entire thing was his playground I loved it. I miss him ugh
Big Tiddy Goth Gf rip your space but same here my room is basically a cage
Is a 3x2 a good cage with a 1x2 layer?
For 2 guinea pigs
Wiesel Gaming 30” x 50” is good for the guinea pigs I might be wrong though.
Pringles thanks!
Honestly that first cage is even too small for a hamster!!! Great informative video though 🧡🧡
Holly Stop yup! My hamsters have bigger cages then the first and second one so I feel horrible for anyone that puts any kind of animal living in them.
Holly Stop I was thinking the same thing!! Sooooo true...!
🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕
My 2 mice have a bigger cage.
Oh that's such a good idea ! I think I may do that even tho the pen I have is a decent size for my piggie
I feel soooo stupid I have the cage with the grass design I’m definitely making take new cage
Edit: I got a big ex pen for my piggies

Me too :(
I have that one too

me too, i have 2 of them, but i have my cages open 24/7 my piggies walk through my hole house :D i got Guinea houses all over the place
🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕
Why not let them run around the backyard. Mine do. Had pigs for 17 years. Freedom equals happiness.
@@batbarasobczak351 Won't cats or other animals get them?
For that reason that guinea pigs have predictors you need to make a sacrifice and supervise them for 1 or 2 hours a day when you let them out. If your willing to do that they will have a much happier life. They will run back inside the cage if you have a little door and you put a chopped carrot in. Then place a brick to close entrance.
@@batbarasobczak351 Oh okay that makes sense i though you kept them outside all the time. :)

This is very true. I work at a pet store and the ones we sell are way too small. When we sell guinea pigs and they want the cage we have and I tell them it’s only temporary but I advise them to get a bigger one and the bigger the better! 😊
Thank you! 💗 wheek
My bf and opened our kitchen to give them both a change of scenery and more space! We do plan on getting an add on for the cage too
You have such a great knowledge of piggies! I got the Midwest cage and I'm in love with it. It's so easy to clean and we do pick them up or pet them and feed them veggies. It's much better to have the open top cage. Also I'm so glad you have taught others to have 2 piggies. Mine love to play together and talk💗

Can you free roam piggies?
Sniper The lab yeah but your gonna be cleaning the floor a lot they can’t be litter trained
I had to order the Midwest cage right after this video and plan on grabbing up a second female "hopefully from the same little cage at petco were mine came from'
You are amazing Neo Geoz!!
The midwest cage is pretty big! I felt bad because I had my piggies in a small cage for a while, then one died which made the situation even worse. So then I bought two more pigs and the midwest cage, I'm almost 6 ft tall and I lay comfortably in it!
Wow, I've had my 2 girls for 10 months now in the Midwest. When they hear someone in the kitchen they come out and start speaking for some veggies.
Thank you for actually putting the thought into changing it!
Sounds like heaven!
Saskia from Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue its amazing💕
Ohmygosh this!!! When I have my gpigs out, they jump right back into their enclosure. That’s their safe space. I also use an open custom enclosure.
Good for you!!!!!!!!!! Happy piggies, happy piggie mama ❤❤❤
they’re required to recommend something they sell in the store so complain all you want but it won’t do much
strawberrie gatcha the stores don’t sell cages adequate enough and employees are pushed to sell and do their job so they’re gonna recommend what’s in stock

My Husband and I are adopting two guinea pigs in a few weeks! I'm so happy I found this video!
I have to have a closed cage on top because my cats try and eat them :(
Yes mine too
LMAO, but still don’t let them die
Also: all three of them are males and they get together quite well despite rumors that males won't get along!
Miss Saskia, I would just like to say. Besides having the Most Informative Piggie channel on The Tube! You also have the Prettiest nails on The Tube as well!! Thank you for sharing all your piggie knowledge with us. It's really priceless to use "Piggie Lovers"!!!
Aww thank you SO much!! I started putting on nail polish to hide my dirty nails haha, people were commenting on the lady's dirty nails. 😘

She really does care about her nails! :D cant wait to see the next color!

I love theguineapigforum!
What great info! I hope all prospective guinea pig owners take heed 💕
I know when I was younger, I had a guinea pig in a small cage like the red one. I didn't know any better and it's not like the pet store is helping that much regarding that. I did let her roam pretty often in a room under supervision (as I did for the rabbits, who also had too small cages :/ )
Now that I'm an adult and actually know better, I really want to make a DIY cage for rabbits/piggies and just do better than when I was a child.
Well I only have one guiena pig and it has the size of the second cage so I'll get a new cage and another pig😁
Oh how wonderful!! Great job! ❤
Do it, itl be the best thing youve done👍. Theyl be more active and youll see their true colours shine through

Oh that is GREAT news!!!! ❤
I have three boys they are brothers I’m glad they are good together. They play all the time!! I’m blessed

You are welcome!!

Mads B Please get your guinea pig a friend, they are herd animals and suffer from depression if they are isolated from other guinea pigs. ❤️
Oh no! I have one very similar to the blue cage that’s raised. I am totally switching to the Midwest cage!

I have a small herd of one neuterd boar and four sows in an 11 x 2 c and c cage on ikea tables, easy to reach. They also have ikea dolls beds to hide under!
It is so strange that pet shops are ignorant about cage sizes. They just want to make moneyI suppose.
Flower fairy can you free roam piggies
Sniper The lab I mean.. you can.. but they can’t be fully potty trained like rabbits. So you’ll have soiled floors
I have the same size but then put them out with a c &c cage on the floor and give them floor time they just love it. When they have had a cuuple of hours running and eating then they squeak and like to go back to there own cage. Then they sleep. All around happy content guinea pigs. 😀
My friend had one guinea pig but it’s cage was even smaller than the first cage (it has a bigger cage now)
This is informational, thank you! I have the 2nd cage you showed here and never realized that it was TOO SMALL for our girl. We have a very aggressive female that we rescued 2 years ago. She is going to be getting a significant cage upgrade now that I know!!!!
Then I realized
I had a nice sized cage for two boys
Btw I just put a tarp on a twin sized bunk bed (and it had sides of course) and then shredded newspaper for bedding and omg I saved SO much by doing that
I'm no expert but I BELIEVE that doing that may harm your Guinea Pigs because the ink might soak out from their pee! Just be careful, and once again, I am NOT and expert.

Most of my guinea pigs don't like other guinea pigs. My boars would fight and draw blood so I had to put a divider in the c&c cage.

Can you make a video how to clip their nails
JENNA brown she did!! If you search Saskia Guinea pig Nails or something along those lines it will come up
I'm not sure about guinea pigs, but with my rabbits I put them in a scoop fishing net and have someone hold it while I clip their nails with a pair of pet nail-trimming scissors (easier to control than toenail clippers, though I've used those too).
Your videos and Scotty's Animals have helped me tremendously. I've learned so much about our new guinea pigs, and proper caring for them. We just got our first 2 guinea pigs about a week ago.
Pet store people just want to sell the cages, I prefer cages for bunnies they are very huge or maybe amazon.
Which bunny cage is good?
all of theese tips are very helpful, however I do want to point out that the wood shavings can carry termites, and your guinea pig can get very sick from that. thats why I recommend the colorful bedding because its softer, and healthier for your guinea pig.
I’m getting a guinea pig soon so this helpful :) !
You need to have at least two. It’s not okay to have only one.
OMG, thank you sooooo much for the nationwide suggestion!!!
I have two mid west cage attached together but we put them up in a way where we have more space so we have about 16 square feet
i spend everyday watching videos on guinea pigs because i’m getting 2 for christmas or my birthday and i’m so exited! so i’ve been doing a lot of research. and these are SO helpful!
She said about not having small cages but in the corner there was guinea pigs in pretty small cages..
This rescue gets new piggies every day. Probably just very temporary housing while they prepare bigger cages.
It is quarantine houseing for when they get new piggies.
You dont know that, it could be for lack of space
@@tinnycan5303 It's mostly because it's a rescue and space is harder to get when you have so much piggies. It's only temporary cages since most of them are up for adoption. They actually use many midwest and c&c cages, if you watch their videos. Also, many female piggies (I'm talking A LOT) can live in one huge enclosure - watch this th-cam.com/video/V8AFudpEZjM/w-d-xo.html All in all, they still receive their necessities and are well taken care of, just like any other rescue or pound.
I understand that now Xx
Awww that is GREAT!!!!
Ah cubes and chloroplast. Just ordered the grids from amazon. Look for cube shelving. Loads cheaper and zip clip together xx
Target was where we found the best deal on this type of cage material.
I had two Guinea pigs they roamed free for years around our outside kitchen and ate our vegetable rests in the summer then came into our home in the cage in the winter it was so nice
8:21, look at the cages in the back left, they’re tiny about half the size of the first cage!
TangerineTurtles exactly
Suyo’s Life I’m assuming it’s for quarantine. They don’t stay in there for long if that’s the case. Could also be for sick guinea pigs.
Bugs can come from shavings and elsewhere as well.
@nutbrittle Thank you 😊
this video was amazing. it helped with all of my questions and was full of information. the link to the midwest cage was great too.
Oh great!!!
Hi Everyone. Who else watching again? 😉 I'll repeat my recommendation from yesterday- look up Pet Interviews - Guinea Pig by Pets Add Life on youtube. The best interview with guinea pig I've seen. And happy Monday Everyone! One day less till weekend again 😁
