Great work Joe as always! The new Forerunner TRD Pro looks good except for the gloss black elements on the exterior. Those elements will look bad in a short amount of time. Forerunner buyers are looking for longevity and reliability, not trendiness. I am baffled how Toyota missed this.
I had a 1984 4-Runner,,,it was a 2 seat pick-up truck with the back window removed, a metal bench rear seat for max comfort bolted to the truck's metal bed, serious functional roll bar ( in lieu of seat belts in back seat) and removable fiberglass top. Very cool pitch/roll/ altimeter gauges......To go into 4 wheel drive you had to go each front wheel and with a "flick of the wrist" engage the axle locks.....damn thing rusted out far faster than my 1979 Fiat Spider.
Are the knuckles made of aluminum also? Interesting that they kept the four cylinder turbo. A little while back, Toyota came out and said that maybe a turbo four cylinder might have been a mistake for "towing" purposes.

I work at a toyota dealership. As we all know. The new 4th gen tacomas are now turboed through out all the trims. I notice those with the "fake" hood scoops (trd sport/pro) the engine bay is oddly cooler than other trims. I say odd bc usually turboed cars always have the hottest engine bay. But I notice they are cooled. If you take a look into the scoops, they are not block like the previous models. There is actually a opening. Yes it doesn't lead to like a air intake or something like you'd see on a maybe a TRX or raptor or something. But it does channel through the hood and into the turbos, blowing air down the to the ground and cooling the turbos and removing heat from the engine bay. Atleast for my experience.
I'm waiting on delivery of my 24 Terra trd pro any day now. Trading in my 2020 ORP 65000 miles which I never had an issue. I'll keep the 24 till Im confident in the new version.
Get mad at stupid government policies, not Toyota. They’re just trying to survive the strict regulations like everyone else. Downsized engines and electric isn’t necessarily the future… it’s just the future our government wants… which makes me question it entirely. I’m keeping my 10 year old Honda lol
Don’t see why everyone is so concerned about the 4cyl reliability. If you have the money for this, you can afford an extended warranty. Fun fact: each time Toyota puts a TRD badge on this vehicle, they add $2500 to the price. Joe, your $53k pricing guess is way off. The Tacoma TRD OR starts north of $50k, and the Sequoia TRD Pro is $80k, so there’s no way this will be under $65k.
Love the look of the new 4Runner just not convinced on the 4 cylinder turbo hybrid. I have a ‘21 v6 Camry and a ‘23 is500 that has a v8 that are known to be solid engines. I wanted to add an SUV but may stick with either a 5th gen 4Runner, gx550, or get a Honda passport. Waiting to see the new Honda passport

Glad to see the passport have the v6, heard it’s really quick too 0-60 in the low to mid 6 second range for that size and can’t beat the reliability of that powertrain, standard AWD too is such a big win for honda

I have always felt the first year of a new generation usually has some bugs that needed to be worked out, so in 2023 with a 6th generation 4Runner's debut possibly coming in 2024 I decided it was time to pull the trigger and bought myself a 2023 limited 4Runner and I'm glad I did. In this video, he never lifted the hood to show us the so called powerhouse like he knew of the disappointment and was embarrassed. I love my 2023 4Runner and already have known of the 4 liters reliability and I'm glad I didn't wait for the 6th gen.
A 4cyl motor in an SUV, and $50,000? Get a grip…
At least 50k depending on the trim
that 4cyl hybrid has more power and torque and better fuel economy than a v6.
I had a 2017 4 Runner limited & traded it for a 2019 Highlander V6 Hybrid limited, love it and still own it !!!
That’s really fantastic to hear!
Oof couldn’t do that to mine. Just a slightly lifted van with doors.
@@Anomize23😲 🤣
@@knight24757 I mean literally. All you gotta do is switch those rear doors to slide and its A VAN.😂 Ive driven it before and drives like one too.
Never. I will keep my 22 Army Green TRD Off Road Premium! The black gloss pieces ruin it entirely for me.
You have a keeper for sure!
I love it! Mine would barely go over the curb at Starbuck's for my off roading.
You are freaking hilarious!
Keeping my 16 4 runner i will enjoy my 16mpg and 300k miles of life 😅
She is a keeper!
Nope, I just purchased a 2024 TRD Off-Road. I think I'll keep it indefinitely.
Not worth it if it doesn’t have a v6 sadly
Great work Joe as always! The new Forerunner TRD Pro looks good except for the gloss black elements on the exterior. Those elements will look bad in a short amount of time. Forerunner buyers are looking for longevity and reliability, not trendiness. I am baffled how Toyota missed this.
Just here to answer the question in the title.....
No.
Take care.
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Really they will get plenty of use as the turbos will ALWAYS be on, no wear and tear going to happen right?
I like the gloss black is better than plastic. The glass black will not fade over time or need to be stained.
"I wish my 4runner had a 4cyl hybrid and a defective transmission" - nobody ever
😂😊
Hahahahahahaha
😂
I love your reviews! Hearing about pickle juice being an electrolyte that you should drink out of the bag.....all the things that can fit in the door pockets, etc, you keep me laughing. Also, I'll never give up my 21 4Runner sr5 for a new one.
Looks like a RAV4 and Tacoma had a baby😮
The 4Runner already had the tacoma front
That double hulk hogan handle bar mustache front end though. 😂😂
Now I ca not un-see that! LOL
😂 this is so bad its good. Man you really need to watch the 1980 film ‘Used Cars’ with Kirk Russel. Truck Looks good but it is not a ‘re-invent’ the wheel, it’s just a makeover. The proof will be in the engine/drivetrain
Glad to see that you and Lori are safe. To me the gloss black makes more sense on the Limited trim.
JR I'm happy you guys are okay & survived another big tango tango hurricane, love ya, tony stewart
Thanks Tony for caring about us! I appreciate that !
The 4 runner used to have it own look now it looks like a Tacoma I would have been happy with a 2024 4Runner just a new power train and some new tech they would sell thousands
A Tacoma with an extended cab....glad I pulled the trigger on my 2024...
4runner is superior in every way and built in Japan
@@koehh4652 Doesn't mean squat when the powertrain is a dud. GX is built in Japan too, you saw the hood flapping issue it has ? Lexus IS 500, my own car built at Tahara plant. Front Apron separation issue, Toyota TSB fix was glue and epoxy, that's a $72K car with taxes OOTD. That's your Toyota Japan. Lexus LS, massive failure. Toyota's good cars are the ones which are very old and still in production like RC F, LC 500. Rest all have compromises, ES 350 made in KY, USA is also a decent option.
No, it definitely doesn't. I can't wait to pick up my 2024 TRD Pro!!!!
Love the 5th Gen. Hate the 6th Gen. Will never buy a turbo or a turbo/hybrid. Not to mention the new telematics suite of data collection. No way never for the new way way way overpriced (basing on tacoma's insane price jump) piece of crap.
I've had my TRD 4Runner for 5 years now and my Off Road Xterra for 17 years. Both will probably outlive me
Still love driving my 200 series Land Cruiser with over 200k…oh and I have a 100 on my island property with 320K. I have ZERO faith in that 4 banger lasting like my old V8’s. Toyota lost me with there complete move to 4cyl.
I agree - the glossy flares aren't going to age well, both from a style/design perspective and also from off-road use.
No replacement for more displacement
Yes love the black gloss
I’ll keep my 14 for a few years a see what happens with the new one.
Yeah bro i have a 15 pro with 150k as well. Gonna wait at least 5 years before jumping into one of these
Our 2018 TRD Off Road only has 65k miles on it and I think it'll last forever. Our daughter wants it when she goes to college next year and I'm leaving towards giving it to her.
I have no idea what I would replace it with, however, as I love 4Runners, but all I see when I look at these new ones is $$$ with no guarantee of long term reliability.
Gloss black does not belong on a off-roader. It will look like crap as soon as you go offroad. ZONK all the gloss.
Even the RAV4 woodland has matti wheel fenders.
2019 TRD Off Road Premium is probably your best bet if you do not want electronics but want ALL the offroad bells and whistles alongside the PROVEN naturally aspirated 4.0L v6 and ancient 5 speed automatic.
Good to see you JOE my official car reviewer your reviews are spot-on and in depth When My Friends Ask me about a car or thinking of buying a car all I have to do is refer them to Joe Raiti and the Joe Raiti Library of vehicles, it's better than the Encyclopedia Britannica 😁keep up the good work sir
The gloss black fender flares are just for the prototype. I'm waiting on this 2025 4-runner to come out. Still driving my 26 year old 98 Rav 4 with 395,000 miles, and it's still running strong!
You aren't going to get 395,000 Mi out of a 4-cylinder turbo, hybrid 4Runner
kislux You are so well-informed about luxury accessories and bags. You've obviously done your due diligence and the comparison to the US is very informative...because of course, I live in New York. thank you very much.
This is not 4Runner it's a 4Coma
That is fascinating.
New small engine and new transmission no longer built on top Toyota plant in Japan. The 5th gen was not based on Tacoma this one is 100% Tacoma
It’s still built in Japan in the Tahara plant
Is always like that when new model comes
I'm waiting on delivery of my 24 Terra trd pro any day now. Trading in my 2020 ORP 65000 miles which I never had an issue. I'll keep the 24 till Im confident in the new version.
Stupid toyota rid of the v8....
Wahhh wahhh. Welcome to the future.
4 cylinder hybrid is the future
Blame EMISSION... I meant governement
Umm, like back in 2010 on the 4Runner. You were in a coma for 14 years there buddy.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one Richard!
4:52 did they tell you not to mention it’s a 4 cylinder?
Why does it matter? Manhood taking a hit?
The new 4runner trd pro looks like a post apocaliptic car... I love it❤ the Mad Max 4runner
That is so great to hear!
People are to smart these days to waste 60k+ on a material item. Folks just look at their finances in an intelligent way now from what i see.
Yeah if they are too smart they wouldnt buy these overpriced SUVs
I'd bet ya, you will not find a TRD Pro or Trailhunter for under $60k!
The gloss black fenders will wear perfectly since they'll let you show off every last scratch you picked up on your epic adventures!
The 4 cylinder engine is piece of shit, this won't last then couple of years, I bought my TRD SPORT in 2023 and I love it!!!!!!
Love it! I can’t wait! Not worried about the turbo hybrid powertrain. Toyota is the best at it.
Nope with the engine issues rather keep the V6 that is tried and true.
I am going to miss the V6!
I went from a 5th gen 4runner to a 4th gen taco - definitely enjoying a lot of the newer features on the updated platform
Joe when are you doing the first drive Joe of this brand new 4Runner.
Should be happening soon
@@RaitisRidesI can’t wait for that one
Love the look of the new 4Runner just not convinced on the 4 cylinder turbo hybrid. I have a ‘21 v6 Camry and a ‘23 is500 that has a v8 that are known to be solid engines. I wanted to add an SUV but may stick with either a 5th gen 4Runner, gx550, or get a Honda passport. Waiting to see the new Honda passport
I think this all new 4Runner will be a hit, but new Toyotas have become so expensive. Do you think there are Lots of buyers out there who can afford this truck? I am saving to buy the 2026 Camry LE with all the packages for $33, 973 plus taxes. That's expensive for me.
It’s going to be interesting to see how it all pans out
The tacos have actually become somewhat not-exorbitantly priced
Finally some additional power as we have all wanted for ever and a transmission that doesn’t shift every two seconds!!!
only in black will this look good... how long in the Arizona sun before that gloss black on the fenders start peeling off??? 4 years?
Glad to see the passport have the v6, heard it’s really quick too 0-60 in the low to mid 6 second range for that size and can’t beat the reliability of that powertrain, standard AWD too is such a big win for honda
It will be interesting to see how it pans out!
Nope, not with all of the recalls. I’ll keep my reliable v6 that has been going well for years and years.
That seems like a smart move!
