Kianoush Rostami, 85kg weightlifter and 2016 Olympic Champion for Iran, training over the course of four days at the 2017 World Championships training hall. Some notes:
-We already made similar 4 day compilations for Saeid Alihosseini ( • Saeid Alihosseini Trai... ), Sohrab Moradi ( • Sohrab Moradi Heavy Tr... ) and Behdad Salimi ( • Behdad Salimi Heavy Tr... ).
-We were attempting to capture all four of their workouts on each given day, so we have a bit less of their warmups and in between shots like chalking up due to the demands of shooting 4 sessions at once. We also missed a couple videos here and there, but nothing important. If we did miss something like their top set, it will be noted in the video. But we skipped some lighter stuff here and there if one of the other three was doing something heavy/significant.
-As you can see here, Kianoush was not his normal self. He was injured but he was doing his best to fight through it. Normally we would skip posting this but a lot of people have asked us to post his training. Additionally, his 165kg snatch and 185kg clean & jerk didn't actually look too bad on the ones he made and he did go on to compete reasonably well in the snatch. And he probably could have done a good C&J but he opened quite heavy especially given his injury.
-We don't have enough footage for any of the other Iranian lifters to do any other single Iranian lifter compilation video but we might do an "everyone else" Iran compilation video at some point.
-He went on to snatch 174kg: / benfftbbrku
-The intro and outro music is Johnny Rock "Back in Time" / johnny-rock-back-in-time

Only a madman does clean grip snatches to 140, decides to snatch 160, misses, goes up to 165, and makes it. As we have gone to know, Kianoush is mad.

He’s so handsome. I still can’t accept it that he’s retired. Maybe he sneaks in for Paris ‘24? Or is that dream gone

    • @hookgrip

he was trying to win the world championship. if he was just a hobbyist or if there was not an important event, then i'm sure he would have not been training. gotta do what you gotta do to win championships, if you only compete when everything is perfect then you're not going to get very far. he knows his body and what was just pain versus what would be a long term detriment to his career.

especially when, even in spite of his injury, he still had the second highest snatch. if he had even just opened at the 185 that he was evidently able to hit in training, he still would have hit bronze on the podium.

I believe it was a knee injury. You could see him limping between his C&J attempts.

if you watch all the way through, you'll see it. it was his knee.
