    This is what the sport of weightlifting is missing on the TV. All the drama and commentrary of what's happening backstage.
    Would you believe most people don't even realize they have to warm up for the lifts on the backstage?

    • @Goriaas
      @Goriaas 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      there have been lifters in the past who barely did. especially after already snatching.

      @@tcruz81 Plus it would be impossible during a competition to pay this much attention to backstage stuff without missing several actual attempts. What televised weightlifting competitions really need, however, is better camera work. I'm so tired of them filming close ups when the athletes initiate their lifts. As soon as the athlete reaches down to grab the bar we should be able to see their entire body. Plus the front view they always have is pretty boring and a bad view to see the intricacies of the lift.

    • @Reriiru
      @Reriiru 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really hope there isn't such a thing. TV generally lacks tact and respect to the athletes, as well as understanding what the sport is in broad terms. Seb, at the very least, is a pretty decent weightlifter in his own right, and thus is capable of producing things like this without disturbing the athletes too much. At the very least he is capable of showing them the respect they deserve, which is not something I can say for most journalists.

      @@Goriaas I think you don't understand what this discussion is about. This is about Rostami vs. Moradi vs. Tian Tao vs. Meso, a fight that cannot happen in Tokyo 2020. If Ilya improves to say 172+220 by Tokyo, he would stand a chance at medalling because both Iranians will most likely fail to qualify and Tian Tao might not be selected due to the 4 man quota. But even with that almost unrealistically optimistic hypothetical score, in this 4-way bout, Ilya would still be a minnow in the background, which is what I'm saying. But honestly, your entire premise is flawed because lots of athletes work themselves into an early grave just to qualify for the Olympics with no chance at all at medalling. And also, quite frankly, with Ilya's abysmal P1 and P2 scores, I doubt he can qualify for Tokyo at all (he'll need to do about 405 at the Asian Champs and a silver event if he wants to stand a chance). As for pharmaceutical aid in the last months leading up to the comp, yeah, he can try that if being stripped of his 2008 and 2012 medals wasn't embarrassing enough for him. I have literally no idea why he's still even eligible to compete.

      It's politics why he gets stripped and athletes like Phelps don't, it's not because he just doped that much more....
      I'm just curious do you think Ilya won all those years because he was on more or better gear or it was mostly an even playing field with him just being the best lifter. Because I believe in the latter

    In addition, as far as I know, Rostami Got like 1067 robi points with this performance and he will compete in Feb in Fajr Cup (first days of Feb) then at the end of the month, he will compete at West Asian Championship and then he will compete at Asian Championship in April I think. Therefore, all these competitions gives Rubi points, so if rostami gets totals like this last comp (400 kilos as minimum) he will definitely go to Tokyo and I believe that he has the potencial.
    I read an interview of the national head coach of Iran, and he told that if Rostami didn´t failed the second attempt at 177 kg he would try 185 kg in the 3rd attempt !

    Missed first and second snatch, increases weight to make the third one, then wins by massive clean and jerk?? Is Meso trolling Tian Tao? LOL
    I dunno why you'd expect so little from Rostami. You said that he hadn't touched 220 since coming out of 85 and that's not true; recovering from injury (that caused him to bomb in 2017) and without serious training although lifting at home, he made 172+220 at the Fajr Cup in period 1 of 2018. So after recovering and then training seriously for several months, 178+225 is totally reasonable, especially because Qatar is very close to Iran and he won't be affected by jetlag, climate, etc... Rostami is a very capable and experienced lifter; he wants desperately to go to the Olympics. If he didn't easily have 400 in him, he shouldn't even want to go. If he trains without injury and earns an Olympic spot, I would not be surprised if he is over 410 in Tokyo, although getting there seems extremely unlikely.
    Wish Tian Tao was here instead of playing with himself in Tianjin. The Qatar Cup could have been the battle we all wanted to see, the battle that Tokyo can't be...

      will rostami not make tokyo?

    • @whatever77054
      @whatever77054 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@ethanbaird5058 It would be extremely difficult because everyone qualifies with 4 scores and since Rostami has a 0 for period 2, he can only use 3 scores to compete against the 4 that other people will use. For an extremely elite lifter, that would still be possible if he puts in 3 scores all over 1,200 but the problem is that 1 of Rostami's scores must come from period 1 so one of his scores must be his 973. That means his other 2 basically have to be over 1,300 with only 1 Gold ranking event (Asian Champs in April) left. This comp, 403 at a Silver ranking event, only gets him something like 1,070 points so despite the achievement it is, this comp is really not even usable at all to him in his qualifications. Sohrab's 416 at a Gold event was only worth 1,242 so Rostami basically needs to total 420+ at the Asian champs and another 425+ at the Fajr Cup (Silver event) to have a good chance to qualify into the top 8 (only 8 lifters allowed) for Tokyo. You tell me how likely that is...
      On the other hand, if Rostami busts out a 425 in the next few months and still fails to qualify, whomever wins the gold in Tokyo should hand-deliver it as a gift to this man in Tehran out of respect LOL

    • @WeightliftingHouse
      @WeightliftingHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You are right with Rostami's numbers in Q1. I recorded this in one go straight after the competition so probably got a number or two wrong. Kianoush has been anything but consistent in recent years. The last time I saw him was just two months prior and he was nowhere near this level.

      I think you don't understand how this sport works. If he didn't have a realistic chance at the medals in Japan2020 he wouldn't train for it.
      His medical "assistance" will improve a lot till then too if you knowmsayin
