    I get that in this weight class it does not matter how much you weight, also that the body becomes ineffecient at some time on the strength and weight curve.
    But surely he does not need to be that fat? Would it not be more beneficial to weight a bit less? Less strain on the heart and faster recovery between lifts?
    Maybe also less of a pronounces belly means being able to pull the bar closer along the body?

    • @tokkia1384
      @tokkia1384 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jaza I agree with you technically. But sport isn’t about health. It’s about performing the best. For these guys, this is how they perform best...they are experienced athletes with experienced coaches. Maybe the effort they’d have to put into dieting would take away from their lifting, and they could end up less competitive than their peers. That said there are certainly antiquated perceptions around and even within WL about how body weight and fat affects strength. Maybe with time athletes will get leaner as the disadvantages and relative lack of advantages of being over-fat become more well known. I feel that this needs to come top down , from the coaches, as much as it should come bottom -up,from the athletes. Look at all the coaches - they are so out of shape. The culture of being lean and aesthetic, of putting work into health and hypertrophy like the Chinese do needs to become more widespread.

    • @JayzsMr
      @JayzsMr 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mila Akimova it's not being lean for its own sake and also they don't compete all year around, lots of time to slim down a bit

    • @tokkia1384
      @tokkia1384 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jaza yes I personally agree with you, but as I said I think there is no incentive within the team itself in a lot of these cases.

    • @dickpiano1802
      @dickpiano1802 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you that it's unnecessary and ruins the image of the sport. There have been in shape SHWs (Yani Marchokov, Ihor Shymechko and Pisarenko for example) but all the best guys seem to be extremely fat even though sport science cannot explain it.

    • @JayzsMr
      @JayzsMr 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dick Piano they don't need to be lean as possible obviously at a certain point the body becomes ineffecient and if you want to be as strong as possible, you need weight.
      But you don't need to be obese

    • @rhysharvey4779
      @rhysharvey4779 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The weight lifted per kg of bodyweight has diminishing returns as you get heavier and his squat is insanely strong, as strong as it needs to be. And this isn't his max squat anyway.

    • @managanzhendo4282
      @managanzhendo4282 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skye Viper look up salimi 360 kg. He did it the same way he did 270 here so his max is at least 380 kg but if he trained only the squat he would be around 440 kg

    He was robbed at 2016 Olympics.
    He doesn't use much weight for back squats goes to parallel,no pauses.
    Following OL since 1960s rules should be changed allow elbow touch, bottom touch,press out,continental clean as this would allow lifters from US to compete.Snatch should go as no athlete in North America practices it.
    He's retired much too early for such a great lifter.

      @@Thuky1
      Hardly favouring USA but they are a prime country for Olympic lifting because of number of athletes that participate in sports.
      NFL training consists of heavy work on squat,deadlift,bench along with power clean( ideal for football) but snatch hardly used as it takes years to master if ever.

      No they don't.
      Depends on flexibility of their large legs.

      @rhysharvey4779 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wasn't robbed. I love Salimi and team Iran but it was a pressout each time blatantly. I really wish he could have made a jerk and secure a medal but it was sadly not the case this time.

    • @largecoke4087
      @largecoke4087 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rhysharvey4779 I see your point. But making a judgement call that is so subjective and not an exact measurement is an inherent flaw in the system. So you could just as easily argue that there was a conspiracy to bring Salimi down and it would've very likely have been racist in nature.
