    Just installed this intake system last night on my 2012 Forester XT and wanted to provide some feedback. Firstly, the video provides an excellent walkthrough of the process and I highly recommend it for those who don't want to go about this blind. The most difficult part was actually removing the old intake system as most of the parts were well adhered to their factory components (especially the hose leading to the engine). The cold air intake doesn't significantly alter the sound of the engine, but you absolutely hear the 'whooshing' sound. I find it very relaxing and reminds me of a spaceship accelerating. I'd love for my Forester to have the low rumble of the WRX, any suggestions on how best to achieve that effect (I presume expanding the exhaust piping diameter)?

      Unequal length headers bro will do the trick and also expanding the diameter like you said so 3 Inch and that should give the classic Subaru deep tone (if you haven't already found this information out by now considering this message is two months old haha)

    I like the design, but how would you know when the filter is dirty without removing that whole thing? An access panel on the top or back where you could check & service the filter would be ideal. 👌🏻

      @electroevolution5777 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't take any effort to undo a couple fasteners and it doesnt take any brains to know that after every 10k or so miles to check it.

    The gasket strips are a pain in the butt to apply. They're not very flexible in the sharp corners and putting it on the round hole where the filter connects to it's so time consuming. I had to cut mine now I'm thinking adding heat shield tape where I cut the gasket. I installed mine on a WRX STI hatchback 2014

    • @GrimmSpeed
      @GrimmSpeed  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is something you have to be patient with and take your time installing. We have an install guide that should make it easier to understand how to apply it correctly.

    2020- I have a 2011 project WRX hatchback.... I just put this on. It is a very clean design- I guess I check the filter when I change the oil by undoing everything I just did? (Correct?)
    Other than that- the video was a great tutorial.

      How would the ots maps on the Cobb accessport do with this ? What do you recommend besides a pro tune

    • @Spawn2050
      @Spawn2050 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cobb does not have an OTS map for the GS intake so I would not recommend using that map on the GS intake.
      OTS maps are not meant for permanent use. They are only baseline maps to help the car and mod(s) run at a safe level; not max performance.
      A protune is the only way to guarantee compatibility between your car and the GS intake (or any mods) as well as increase performance safely; unless you can tune yourself.

  • @macewilliam7918
    @macewilliam7918 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems like it would be sucking in hot air? Even from underneath doesn't seem like it would be enough? Compared to the snorkel on the factory air box.

    • @GrimmSpeed
      @GrimmSpeed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The heat shield really does do a good job of keeping the heat isolated and out of the intake. The majority of the air comes from the wheel well and underside of the vehicle, far from the heat of the turbo, and downpipe.

      Adam Simpson Like OCTurboJoe said, a tune is highly recommended. There are COBB off the shelf maps that will work in the mean time, but to take full advantage of the intake and to ensure that you're vehicle is running safely, we do recommend a professional tune.
