    I've now fitted a Cobb Redline Carbon Fibre Intake to the car and have a new similar video on my channel for it, might be of interest if you're keen to compare the sound & performance to a proper CAI intake!

    When I had my first car that my dad sold me when I was 18 I was the only one with a 297 WHP 1998 Saturn SL2 it was a total sleeper and a monster. But before it became the quarter Mile sleeper I built it to be over time one paycheck at a time, I had a K&N high flow replacement panel air filter in the stock air box but since I was just starting out with it I couldn't afford a cold air intake so my dad suggested that I drill holes thru the bottom of the stock air intake filter box to make it loud and also increase air flow which it did that was one of my first little homemade mods to make the car "sound cool" lmao. Eventually as I saved my pennies I slowly modded it one thing at a time starting with basic bolt ons like a real cold air I intake, big bore throttle body, headers, custom glass pack exhaust with a cable operated dump pipe just before the cat then it was onto top end mods like performance head and hot street cams and Eventually me and my pals pulled the block and built the entire bottom end bored and stroked with all forged internals for a final compression ratio of 10.9:1. I was 18 so I blew every dime I earned to soup up that car and I loved it cuz nobody expected to get burned by a saturn and it was before saturn came out with the redlines and I would be ridiculed by all the Honda guys. But I shut up their shit talking when I smoked their turbo Honda SIs with my fully built all motor saturn shooting flames from the dump pipe under the car. I got taunted for racing out that car but I saw it's potential and I like to have a car that is something unique. And it all started with drilling holes in the bottom of the air filter housing to make it sound cool when I picked up my friends man I felt so cool like I was driving a loud muscle car lol

    Dont block the hole, get a quality aftermarket filter and you 100% can hear the difference. (09 foz sh5 XT)
    Note: remember hole if going throught high flood water

      I had a 2006 Foz XT that had a silencer delete and a cone filter mounted down low in front tof the driver's side wheel and there was loads of amazing turbo flutter. I wonder if a previous owner had also blanked off the BPV.

      Same here but left the hole open and removed the fog light for more air intake!

    My 2008 wrx snorkel mod was just cutting the black hole out with a hole saw. It was already outlined. Should have done it sooner. Huge difference.

  • @JoshuaWilliamsMA83
    @JoshuaWilliamsMA83 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To my ears the difference was definitely noticeable. I probably wouldn't bother with plugging the hole though.

    Hemoltz resonators arent just for engine sound attenuation. Its part of the breathing for the engine. Removing it hurts low end torque.

    • @ib1424
      @ib1424 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Which means worse mpg, more revs, and more wear on your car. When I removed my intake resonator, it was back on not even a day later😂, made cool noise but also made it feel like half the oomph left the car

    nice video! I went stage 1+ on my 2020 STI and the induction noises are amazing! I hooked up some mics in the cabin and made a few videos on it already. I'd say it's about 3x louder than the intake silencer mod you did. Check the vids out. I think it's worth going Stage 1+

    • @markayala
      @markayala 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      either way, if you want to stay under warranty, that silencer delete would still be a close second if you want to bring out some induction noise.

      @@omartakhaineh3943 hey Omar, I think I know what you’re talking about. Eg there is one tiny hole at bottom of the silencer. I’m not an engineer but I’ve assumed it exists to let out small amounts of water and any particulars that may fly into your intake while driving.

    What were the measurements for the citronella candle lid? Thinking of getting pvc push on cap, they have then in 50mm 90mm and 100mm, could always machine down to size but if you know off-hand could you let me know? I'll be doing this plus muffler delete and let you know how it goes.

    • @BenCad
      @BenCad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Lachlan, okay I still have the candle out on my deck so just gave the candle opening/hole a quick measure. It’s 70mm in size - that’s the opening only and not including the edge. Including the glass container edge it’s approx 87mm. Hope that helps!

      I just bought a prl drop in box with air duct came with a cover for the hole to remove the resonator but I cept mine in to keep fresh air. The resonator is made to hole back pressure of clean air in and circulation to keep air pressure built up.ive dyno cars before and they actually lost pressure in the system and dround out the performance.to my eyes it was proven by real numbers .kind of like a exhaust you want back pressure. Not the people that do resonator cat deletes and do straight pipes. You actually kill the car performance

    if you have a larger intake = and turbo - a K&N filter = you will benefit a little more = + driving the car for 1 hour will see it retune it`s self ! = i did it and yes a little and high RPM - 3hp . = my ej207 rev`s to 8,500 rpm ! so all is a little differant = GOOD LUCK = turbo subaru ! YES .
