Happy Birthday from a fellow Georgia girl! My Mama died Christmas day from covid and she loved Shoney's pie. I made this pie this morning for my sister. We are going to eat and cry this afternoon. Precious memories. Thank you so much, love ya!
I have lived in the Seattle area a long time, but I am from Georgia too. Loved this pie. Had it from Shoney’s and homemade. Yum. I still cook a lot of down home stuff. Made a huge pot of Brunswick stew and cornbread to go with it about a week ago. I share with family,friends and neighbors. But, I am so sorry to hear about your mama. And Christmas Day, especially sad. Take care of yourselves and each other. 🙏

I made this pie (my first pie ever!), and it was so good. My 85 year old grandma LOVES watching you, and always mentions new recipes she’s seen you post. I’m so glad your cooking/channel is something that we are able to connect over. ❤️
I remember eating at Shoney's Big Boy when i was a girl. The strawberry pie was delicious. And I totally agree with your Mom and grandmothers. I also use store bought crust. It's so much quicker and less stressful. I was actually looking for a strawberry pie filling recipe to use over the cheesecake I made. Started watching your video and realized I could just give it a southern tweak and it would work. You know its really hard for a southern girl to follow any recipe exactly! 😉 Since its the wrong time of year to get good tasting fresh strawberries, I used frozen. Made my glaze, cooked it on the stovetop, then added the rest of the sliced frozen strawberries to the glaze while it was hot. Hubby, my official taste taster, said it tasted delicious! 😋 It's cooling now and once it's chilled, we'll be able to put it on top of the cheesecake slices. Thanks so much for your video!

I find it easier to keep the strawberry chunks in the fridge. When the glaze is done, I dump the cold strawberries in the hot glaze and fold. Then into the pie shell. The cold strawberries helps cool the glaze, the filling will stick to the crust for easier eating and there is an even distribution of the glaze. Yes, you can not have too much glaze.

My mom always baked a double crust strawberry pie in the oven. That is the only way that I have ever had it. it was to die for! That is how I make a strawberry pie.

THANK YOU for this. I made it just now and it is a fabulous recipe. I did everything as you said with the only exception being I mixed the glaze with the strawberries in a separate bowl before pouring into the pie crust. My pie crust was not as nice as yours but sure was good! Thanks again for sharing and explaining so well.
