Thank you so much for this review! I was literally searching for the best option for my (last year's model, so 8th gen Intel vs 10th Gen) XPS13 9300 series, and was about ready to buy this enclosure, but figured I'd search just a bit more. Thank you so much for the in-depth review and details, especially on the interaction between these 2 devices, as this helped me a lot! Looks like it'll be perfect for my intended use. :-) The SATA NAS drive functionality will not be used for games, nor at the same time, so that's just a bonus for me. It's just for daily backups. Maybe even just weekly, TBH. Oh, that does raise the question, though, and you might know - does it spin-down the HDD/put it to sleep when not in use? This is something I'd definitely want... I know some external enclosures keep the drive active 100% of the time, which is the opposite of what I want for backups. I'm also getting it new for just under half the original price, so it works out for me in that aspect. Thanks especially for the tip on the re-enabling external device through the device manager, as that avoids me a whole headache and troubleshooting session. :-) (Oops, sorry for the double-post, was editing, and bumped the comment button too soon on the touchpad with my thumb! Derp!)
Thank you so much for the detailed info as to what to expect in the performance and set up. I have been thinking of going with an external GPU but just cant push myself to doing it due to the performance hit and also the worry that if my laptop dies then no gaming! :(
Good evening! Have a question regarding the thunderbolt 3 connection. Does the egpu charge the laptop through a single cable connection? Was searching around the web regarding this, and can't find any infos. Thank you in advance for your time!
I'm very interested in eGPUs and be very thankful for this test. Next time if you try to compare two setups, don't chnage the config (here: the graphic settings), so the different setups are directly comparable through all charts.
Thanks for the insight! Have you experienced sudden stutters, fps drops, or extra latency with an egpu? Im also in uni with an XPS, but mostly play online shooters so that's very important aspect in my setup decision.
Hi Smarikoe, I want to ask about your omen accelerator. My friend actually want to sell it for me for cheap price, however considering the review from other community, does it really worth the price? It said it is pretty glitchy and troublesome. Should I buy it or buy like razer core X or something? Thanks!
If you want a smooth experience, definitely avoid the omen. Its just not worth trying to find work arounds with whatever laptop you have and there is legit, no support from HP in terms of updated drivers which is poor form from them
Have you experienced any issues with this setup? I have exactly the same setup but with an AMD graphic card and cannot get it working. The accelerator turns on for a few seconds and then turns off again, however, with another laptop it is working just fine. :/
Hello guys, Can someone please help me? I have an hp envy x360 convertible 15-cn0XXX. I really want to game but the video card is too bad... so I bought a Omen by HP GA1-1000 accelerator shell and of course a good video card. I tried everything to connect them but I can’t. It says that you need a USBc with thunderbolt, but I don’t have thunderbolt... is there any way to still connect them? Or to make the usbc into a thunderbolt? Please can someone help? Thank you!
Hi, Great review. I am thinking to buy a RTX 2060 super or Rx5700 xt. for my matebook pro x 2019 (i7 version). But I have heard many mixed reviews about using an amd gpu for windows. I have never bought an AMD GPU before. My use for the egpu will mainly be gaming, some video editing and programming. My main attraction for Rx5700xt is price and performance. Any views on that? Thanks.
@@ElmerGLue thanks for your comment Bryan:) may I know whether the above fps is obtained with external or internal display? 80 FPS is decent tho, I mean unless you have got a 120hz display, u are not actually gonna take advantage of high fps? I am aiming just 60fps 1080p only. I watched a video on TH-cam saying the upcoming games will probably require higher CPU speed due to the introduction of PS5, which means octa core is probably gonna be the minimum for gaming in the near future. So now I am not too sure whether I should go ahead and buy an egpu with everything considered, as my laptop CPU is i7 8565u and cooling is not the greatest, u could take a look at Matebook x pro 2019. I am not sure whether egpu is the most future proof/ cost efficient for gaming in the long term.

Loved how you made the video without reading some typical scripts! Keep that work natural!! Excellent work buddy :D

Very good video. Thanks for the detailed breakdown. Looking into a Uni + Home setup and this seems doable!

Very nice video, is it worth it to buy a powerful GPU like a 2080 with a Dell XPS 13/15? Will it perform well while gaming?
I’d also like to know

Does it work with RTX 3000serie GPU?

do you have to go into device manager and install nvidia drivers every time you plug in the egpu or just for the initial setup?
do you need to change the resolution to FHD in desktop before launch the game?

@@ElmerGLue Thanks so much for your reply :)
So you will get an RX5700xt in the next 5 days?
