    We know a lot of you are gonna say "no AMD, no buy". But from what we know about the 4000U-series, they're gonna be as rare as unicorn tears until the back end of 2020 due to the current economic situation. For manufacturers that want to put out devices NOW or devices that have already been in development since last year, AMD U-series is a no go in 2020. Oh and happy Eid Mubarak!

    I bought one of these a couple months ago. The audio was TERRIBLE. Speakers had an echo, made worse by connecting a wired or bluetooth headset. It was completely un-listenable. I tried everything - uninstalling drivers, re-installing drivers, rolling drivers back, trying non-dell specific drivers. Nothing worked. I called Dell, and they were baffled. They sent me a replacement unit (mine was less than a day old), and two weeks later when I finally got it, it had the same exact issue. I was sick of wasting my time on a laptop where I couldn't use the audio, so I returned it and got the new Macbook Air instead. Way happier.

    Got my Dell XPS 9300 2 days ago. The UHD+ 4K screen is awesome. I’m used to the display quality of iPad Pro and this display does not disappoint. High-pitch hum noise from fan can occur under heavy load. I found using laptop stand or opening the display all-the-way back improves airflow and reduces the noise. My laptop closes completely and reviewers unit may be defective. The laptop runs like a champ (I immediately applied all updates to system os/bios/apps)

      @@lightsoff9008 No overheating on my 13inch. Built in webcam is mediocre quality but its worth the trade off. Audio sounds much better than stock settings, by enabling the preinstalled MaxxAudio Pro by Waves speaker & mic audio control. It makes noticeable difference in all audio from laptop/aux/bt. And disable the battery saving features in intel graphics command app! And uninstall Killer connection app- it reduced my wifi speeds from 450+mbps to 100mbps. Just completely close killer app then remove it and wifi issue is fixed. If you turn off the default hdr display limits, this screen gets VERY bright

If I were on a college budget, I'd choose a different laptop that gives more bang for the buck. love the new design but I am not a fan of this new trend of only having one or two type-c ports. I understand the argument that the device is for portability and travel however then it doesn't make sense why anyone would decide to upgrade the internals from factory. If you're going to opt for more ram, bigger hard drive, you''re going to be using the device often. The limiting factor for productivity is the screen size which is where the problem arises of not having accessible ports. If i'm getting a laptop I want one port that's dedicated to connecting to some type of external monitor (hdmi or type-c) and at least 1--2 more ports for a keyboard/mouse (2 more type-c or 2 usb type A). At that point if you're plugging in that many peripherals you need a dedicated type-c for charging. Future models should have a minimum of 4 type-c ports for me to fully consider purchasing. I am not conforming to the adapter life. They should at least consider putting more ports on the larger models like the xps 15.

These TH-camrs dont even use most of the shit they review for more than a few weeks, trying to glam up the latest shit. If you’re just into having the latest tech, then yeah, you’re going to be buying new ones all the time. Otherwise, just get something to meet your workload requirement. In my opinion, these are a buy.

    I read the pinned comment. Okay I get it, product development takes time. So Dell... start planning for AMD Ryzen Mobile 5000U Series APUs in next year's XPS lineup across the board.
    You've taken a chance with the Dell G5 15 SE with an all-AMD build and I think you're reaping the rewards for it despite the lack of exposure (you don't seem to have seeded it to any reviewers unfortunately (HardwareUnboxed, HardwareCanucks, Jarrod'sTech, notebookcheck etc.)).
    That's a step in the right direction and a product I'm looking forward to buying.
    The XPS line is what I *would* recommend to friends and family if it weren't built around an insecure and outdated CPU architecture.
    We really are at the stage where not offering Ryzen APUs in premium designs reflects more poorly on the OEM than it does on AMD.
    So be ready for next year, start planning now. I'm hoping I will be able to recommend those Ryzen powered XPS beauties.

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the sales and demand is there, sure I'm sure they would go for it. However, going exclusively with EITHER brand is a bad idea. We'd like to see a balance of Intel and AMD offerings. Plus, from what we know, AMD"s production on Ryzen 4000U isn't anywhere near what's needed to fulfill demand. So Dell erred on the side of caution and nailed it.

    • @Mageoftheyear
      @Mageoftheyear 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HardwareCanucks Oh I don't mind at all if Intel options are provided. In a way it's better if there are because then sales from laptops with Ryzen APUs were clearly not "default sales" because nothing else was available in that range.
      As I did say in my post, my hopes are for Dell's products of next year - because I'm aware of the human malware problem and that it takes about a year to go from concept to sale for a laptop.
      I think the Ryzen Mobile 4000 series has proved that it has the performance and features to belong in mid-to-high-end laptops, some OEMs have already made bets to that effect - now they should know that there is an expectation for adoption of Ryzen going forward.
      I understand that OEMs can only have the resources to make a limited number of SKUs in a year and that increasing the share of Ryzen SKUs is a tricky balancing act, but if they don't find a way to manage which Intel specific SKUs to cut back on then they will get left behind. Ryzen has already achieved that for mobo makers in the DIY desktop space, AMD will achieve the same on mobile. It's just a matter of ye 'ole chicken and egg.
      That was longer than I thought! Sorry for the long reply but those two interviews with Frank Azor (AMD's Chief Strategist of Gaming Solutions - I think I got the title right...) on PCWorld and HotHardware gave me a lot to think about. I'd give them a listen to, well worthwhile.

    The USB Ports are not for me a deal breaker but what is completely useless is the SD Card Reader, it could be used for another USB Port.
    But since a lot of people are complaining about the need, to use an adapter for plugging stuff in it is there, along with the headphone jack. That‘s the drawback on a device that small: if people want to stick to older stuff, then there isn‘t enough room for new stuff.
    I wouldn‘t mind if that thing would have 4 USB-C Ports and that‘s it, cause folks that‘s the beautiful of USB: You can plug in whatever you need and use the Device how you want to without compromising space with stuff you will never use.
    So in summary: The People that complaining about using adapters still have the choice to plug their stuff in but there is no SD-Card to USB Adapter so we others have no choice besides to have that thing in.

    Thanks so much for the review. I can't agree more on the white keyboard color backlighting being hard to see. I noticed this on the 2-in-1 and on the Alienware M15R2. (Unfortunately, the AW M15R2 only comes in Lunar color at higher spec'd levels so you can only get the white color keyboard). The big question is will Dell be offering the AMD CPU variants in the future? If that occurs an apple to apple comparison of those systems with Intel and AMD CPUs would be interesting.

    There is no Thunderbolt 3 on AMD, so it would be a different laptop if there were AMD 4K skus. What devices are you using that you consistently need USB-A in 2020? USB-C has a conversion cable to any port type, it’s really not a big deal. And USB-A doesn’t transport data at 40Gbps over multiple PCIE lanes while providing power. It’s actually pretty great. USB-C is going to be the standard USB moving forward, it’s so odd to see tech people complaining about it.

      The only thing in which the Dell XPS 13 is better are the slimmer screen bezels and lower pricetag. In every otherway the current 13" MBP is objectively better as it has a quieter coolingsystem, better speakers, longer batterylife, better trackpad and 2 more thunderbolt ports. If you don't like MacOS you can simply install windows on it. However I am not gonna defend Apple's trashcan.
