This was informative. I have an older model and was thinking about upgrading to a 1TB. would I need to do the same process or download a program to backup all of my files?
Ahhh! I went thru your process and my recovery usb that I made fails every time. I’ve tried it with the stick in usbA and usbC ports and it still doesn’t complete. So how can I do I full fresh ssd install with no boot partition on the ssd???
Useful video, I hope to upgrade in the near future! My Dell xps laptop ssd has been split Ubuntu/Windows. In the future I would just like to run Windows. If I follow your tutorial will the recovery USB just contain the Windows recovery? (at the time of buying my laptop in the UK only high spec dev option was available!)
The USB stick usually will also contain the required drivers, at least I did not have to download them one by one again. Don't forget a full backup of all of your data before starting the upgrade procedure.
Thank you for the helpful video. If my XPS 13 comes with pre-installed Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements, should I still choose "Fully clean drive" when recovering my laptop?
Great video and your brother in law is lucky. I had Dell laptops in the past but found upgrading were Dell specific components and weren't able to use 3rd party parts in the past but parts only from Dell. Build from Dell was not as well built as Apple or IBM/ Lenovo laptops.
I share your experience if I go back some years into my past, Dell was not my first choice back then. But I think Dell changed nowadays. The XPS 13 has great build quality, solid like a rock. And it accepted my Samsung EVO SSD without any flaws or issues. Most importantly, the non-glossy screen goes up to 600nits which is readable even in my backyard. Thermal management is also surprisingly good if I compare it with my experience on Dell from years ago where you could cook an egg on the laptop :) On this XPS 13, fans are hardly noisy, battery life is long, real life experience of about 7+ hours (forget the nonsense numbers the manufacturers claim), and performance is really good for a notebook with an Intel Iris Plus graphics chip.
@@mathphotographer well thats a comprehensive list of the changes that I remembered from Dell. I would avoid using Dell items like the plague. I will be seeing how these laptops from a longevity and robustness compared to my mac book pros and the latest 13" & 16" mac book pro with the new graphics card that I have purchased Apple.
Question the recovery is what recovery the windows? So if i upgrade and with the recovery drive i dont have to install new window? And need a new window key?
A really useful video thanks. Was there a particular reason you went for the SAMSUNG replacement SSD as it seems to be the most expensive brand in the market? Intel, Seagate, WD, Corsair, Crucial, Sabrent, XPG all offer PCIe, NVMe far cheaper units. Is there another specification I need to look out for in the SSD modules?
Hi! May I know if Samsung 980 Pro SSD NVME M.2 is compatible on this laptop? I have been searching online and can’t find answers online. I hope you can help me. Thank you 🙏
how's the experience so far with the 9300? I'm planning to get one very soon and do the ssd replacement too! I'm just a bit worried after seeing a lot of people having issues with wifi/sound devices/hot temperatures/fan noise/screen flickering My plan is to do a clean install and avoid all the bloatware from dell + replace the wifi killer driver with the standard ax200 (which is based one). Hopefully the latest BIOS + clean windows and 0 bloatware will make me a happy owner. Please, share anything! Specially fan noise/temperature issues
@Ambicity Games Thank you so much for this perfectly detailed reply!! This answers and "kills" any fears of purchasing this! I'll watch your rdr video since that's a proper real-world stress test and re-read this reply again just to make sure I don't have extra questions! BIG THANKS!
The 9300 is a really good small device. What I like in particular is that performance is good but fan noise is low or even off. I never had such a quiet machine as the 9300.
Coverplate is meant to pulled out the same way as the SSD, note the arrow, and the cutout in the plate. not twisted to the side. See service manual
Does XPS 9300 has two SSD slots or just one that can be used for both 2230 and 2280 ssds?
Its a while since I had it opened but if I am not mistaken there is only one SSD slot.
Thanks followed your video and it worked fine for me
how much storeage you needed on the usb stick?
What's the height of the m.2 socket? Can you fit two sided SSD? I can't tell how thick that thermal pad is, that would be an indicator too.

thanks, I just wanted to find a quick video of pulling the SSD and this was perfect!
Great to hear, thx.
Are ram upgradeable?
Is the Dell XPS 13 9300 Model compatible with Samsung 980 Pro 2TB ?
Can you upgrade things without voiding warranty? If not, can I open it with voiding warranty?

Are the third party apps such as Photoshop are also reinstalled when Windows installed from recovery drive?
Para un vídeo didáctico yo hubiera preferido usar ESD Anti-Static Wrist y MAT. También hubiera retirado la bateria
How can I install another Windows? This device has no any usb port. How can I boot it?
what about ram can it be upgraded too?
yes there is actually a extra slot open for it
where did you purchase the ssd replacement from? have a link?
any gen 3 nvme ssd will do, try on amazon, newegg or any other popular site. the one he got is samsung 970 evo 2 TB
@@seasesh4073 i can only see the evo plus
on amazon
@@seasesh4073 is the 970 pro worth the upgrade?
Great one.

is it possible to upgrade the ram on the xps 9310 ???
No it's sothered to the Mainboard!

So if i upgrade and with the recovery drive i dont have to install new window? And need a new window key?
No, no key needed, it will remember that this is your registered laptop.

Where can I order a keyboard replacement?
Oops, no idea, sorry Jessie. I would contact the manufacturer directly, they will know where to get one.

It is compatible
Windows 10 Pro is an upgrade option and not standard in the US.
Any possibility they dont recognize newly installed ssd?
So, I cannot install it?
Never experienced that. It always worked for me but, clearly, I cannot guarantee.
Hi where did you buy the ssd ?I want replace i just order my xps 4gb 128gb
At digitec.ch, reseller in Switzerland.
What about XPS 13 2in1?
Same procedure give or take.
@@mathphotographer the current 9310 2-in-1 has a soldered SSD actually. The 9310 clamshell is still SSD upgradeable. Thx for the video.

I'd like to know the voltages of the fans. Can I have this information? Do you have the model number for them?
