I recently combed out my Locs only to start them again using the two strand twist method. This video has been so informative to me making my decision. I’m leaning towards the two strand method vs coils for a different look & more volume! Thank you for your knowledge 💕🌱🌱
Wow, that’s so crazy about the two strand twist thing. Every time I started my locs, it was with two strand twists( I did it 4 times), they would start budding within a week or 2, and the pattern would be gone by 1 month- but I did wash my hair every week and I have 4c hair, I also only retwisted the root, so my locs was frizzy and covered that twist pattern super quick. ✨
Its weird, I've heard other people say the opposite of what she saying, that two strand locks and matts faster than coils. However the two strand patterns takes at least a year for it to disappear.
Where was this video when I started my locs? 😔😔It took me soooo long to make a decision on which method to start my locs with. I did eventually go with two strands. Thank you so much girl!!! Very informative 👍🏾👍🏾 Great locs by the way👏👏👇🏾👇🏾
I did finger coils and it was easy and painless. I’m very tender headed and my 2 strand twist would unravel. The finger oils have stayed for about a week. I suggest finger coils with some mousse and no conditioner after shampooing
Started my locs (2 strand twist) 16 months ago. Washed my hair monthly and watered daily. My hair loc'd about 6 months or so in (bottom half completely. Top half semi). Twist pattern completly gone closer to a year. Lots of bunching/bumps throughout my journey. Do your research before you begin and Trust the process 🫶🏽
This is my second loc journey I stared with comb coils first now I have two strand twist and everything you said is true. However I think two strand twist have more character.
Hows it going? I'm about to start the journey end of this month.Excited, was to start with interlocking, but i've done my research and i dont like how thin they appear. I'm settling for 2 strand twists
I agree. Also on my second journey. Started with comb coils 15 yr loced and this time two strand after a 5 yr gap. Not too far along but so far prefer the two strand.
It all depends on the hair I have 3 sons all different hair 2 have two strand starters the other coils but all loc just about the same time frame the look is just different could are more neat…two strand more texture. If you want to comb them out one day I say coils. Hair texture and care determines the journey ❤
Girl Thank you!!! I have low density hair you just helped me make my decision on which one i want lol. No coils for me lol im going with two starnd twist. I need my voulme lol
I agree with the 2 strand method im on my 2nd loc journey. With the 2 strand method. Because my 1st set I had traditional locs for 8 years (the comb coil method) and they were not as thick as I wanted them.
I paused four minutes in to say this video is quickly helping me decide which method will be best for doing starter locs on my son. He’ll be going away to college and we’ve been talking about how he’ll take care of his hair while he’s gone. I’ve already been doing plaits (when it was shorter) and comb coils and twists as it grew. After four minutes with you describing how the locs form, I feel like comb coils will be best. He has curly hair that is maybe 3c/4a, which when I do twists would probably unravel on the ends after a few days if I don’t put rubber bands on the end. Comb coils always stay with no problem, and if they will loc up quicker that would be perfect. Thank you for helping me decide, now I have to go unpause, finish the video and then subscribe!
I wish I had seen a video like this before I started my locs. It would have managed my expectations of when the two strand twist method would begin to look like locs and saved me explaining to people that my hair is actually locced 😂 I definitely would’ve opted for the comb coil instead. I didn’t even know there was more than one starter method at the time.
Texture plays the role not method. Me and my daughter both started with 2 strand twist, hers loc'd and the 2 strand twist pattern was gone in 4 months.
The method you use to start is according to your hair texture. If you hair has a well define coil pattern coils are best. If its loose then two strands, braids, or the other methods will work better because they will hold like this. And if you are going to a loctitian who doesn't know this then you may need to think about going elsewhere.
I've tried coil method 3 times and they didn't work for me because they wouldn't hold they came down less than 3 weeks and I know for sure 2 strand twist will not do that because make my hair in 2 strand twist all the time the longest I let them stay up was 3 months and that was because I was really sick so therefore I want 2 strand twist
That is not true my first loc journey was comb coil and it started loc-ing by the end of my first month. This is my second loc journey. I did two strand twist and it has been loc-ed for 8 days and noticed the back is already starting to loc.

Mine still look like twist and I’m 3 months in. I spray with water daily I’m just now seeing some bunching

Great explanation thank you !!!
I like the twist out they look better
Excellent information!
Which style grows longer faster?
depends on genetics
It depends on the texture

which is easier to comb out ?
Coils
