      Good morning this is the second or third time I’ve watched your video I love Your hair last night I started my locks again maybe this is about the fifth or sixth time I’ve started I’ll keep them In for a couple of days the longest I think I went was a month and then I took them down and start again and started again this time I’m going to keep them in and you said embrace your loc’s loc’s are suppose to grow whatever way they grow and they look the way they look and thank you for telling me to keep my hands out of my hair. my thing is I don’t know how to wash my hair I’m scared if I wash it I’ll take it down I’m not at the time right now to go to a loctician or someone to wash my hair I’ve been off work since February with a broken foot it’s not healing like it supposed to so I said I can do this sit here and embrace my lock’s so I just want to tell you thank you and keep doing what you’re doing and keep embracing your life journey because you are very beautiful with your loc’s and I want to get there too I’m going to get there so keep encouraging me the way that you do
      Thank You~ Robin

    Thanks for this. My Sun started locks this year…after asking for two years. I finally agreed after he turned 10, but I’m clueless! He does go to a lock-tician but I do want to be more educated about locks so that I can support him through the process. 💙 He loves his little locks and I love that he loves them.

    I am not an expert on anything other then my own hair. I have had locs on an off for 20 years. I have been natural on and off forever. I have interlocs and they are about waist length. People ask me what do I do and I tell them it is benign neglect. I get my hair done every two months. I wash my hair maybe once a month. I avoid any products in my hair other then when she does it. I have never wrapped it and only wear a bonnet when it annoys me because I am laying on it.
    I don’t disagree with anything you said but this is my journey with my crazy hair.
    I especially agree with not enjoying the starter year but by it went so fast!

    Thanks for this video. I had my hair two strand twisted by a beautician who is not a loc specialist at all. We went with the two strand twist because my hair is straight. No perm, just after a press it never got curly again. The roots aren't twisted tight like I see most starter locs and I'm afraid they weren't started right. And she didn't put them in a style. I'm not sure what product she used, and because she's not a loc specialist she didn't give me any advise. That's why I'm so grateful for this video. THANK YOU!

    Love your advice the only thing I don’t agree with is oils to use…. Coconut oil in fact is one of the best oils to use with or by it’s self They found that coconut oil was better at preventing protein loss than both the mineral and sunflower oils when applied either before or after the hair was washed.
    In fact, coconut oil came out on top in alot of studies and reduced protein loss in hair that was undamaged, bleached, chemically treated and UV exposed…
    It is also the only oil that is predominantly made up of a medium-chain fatty acid called lauric acid which gives coconut oil a long, straight structure, making it more easily absorbed deep into the hair shaft.

    • @CourtneyGrayton
      @CourtneyGrayton  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. Please share the source of this information. I'd like to know if that study was conducted on people with afro-textured hair. I physically work with clients daily who all share the same sentiments about coconut oil. It isn't moisturizing enough on its own. Feel free to watch my most recent video about oils for locs. I talk further about coconut oil.

    I started my locs in January this year and where I did them they used wool to keep them intact but I found the wool to be thinning them out at the ends as I had collarbone length hair when I started my locs. I took the wool out and I just wanted to find out if I should start over or if I should just let my hair form on its own now.

    Peace, I just started my Locs 3 days ago. Thank you so much for sharing this information. I heard that you must moisturize them by adding light oil. However I thought your not supposed to put any water on it for 4 weeks or until the first eeriest. Could you clarify? And my hair is super dry lol. ThAnk you.

    My locs were started 2/15/21. I had heat damage in the front, so they're a little straight there. Started with 100 locs. At retwist I'm getting the crown area separated. Want 125-180 small locs. My loctician and I decided I'll wait 4-6 weeks for my first wash and retwist. I'm excited about this journey. Everything you mentioned, we discussed as well. Thank you for confirmation! I want to wash, after my first retwist, every 2 weeks(have dermatitis in scalp, can get flaky) with a cap at home. I don't plan to retwist until every 6 weeks at that point. What are your thoughts? Also, because I know water helps moisturize of course, would misting your hair every other day and air drying(but nothing else) be ok ? New subscriber here!!

    • @CourtneyGrayton
      @CourtneyGrayton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, that sounds like a great plan you and your loctician came up with! I wouldn’t only use water because it’ll evaporate from your hair and it’ll probably feel more dry. You definitely want to seal that water in with a lightweight oil like one of the ones I mentioned in this video. Thank you so much tor watching and subscribing!

      Try to pluck as much of it out as possible and use soothing oils for the itching. If the flaking is excessive, you should get it checked out by a dermatologist to determine the cause of the flaking

      A bonnet would cause frizz as your locs move around in it all night. I typically recommend tying them down flat with a scarf or locsoc. Then u can put a bonnet on top!
