Basically the Game Brain was essentially Atari's dedicated console repackaged into a Cartridge for expanding the shell of the console. (1:54)

I own a "Unimex Mark IX", which had the same principle. Each cartridge contained a self-contained single-chip computer (nowadays named SoC, often made by General Instruments) with internal rom (or even hardwired logic gates) to play only one game.

1:35 Even Atari Game Brain still had that serious cast metal shielding around the digital parts! The heavy VCS2600 and Atari 400 were massively metal shielded too. In 1980th they still understood that high frequency EMF not only may disturb radio and TV reception but also messes up our body very badly.
And in 80th it was only few MHz. Nowadays mankind got brainwashed by wireless bigdata lobby ads such badly that they intentionally pollute their rooms with pulsed microwaves (wifi, bluetooth, mobile radio) sold as "progress" and fry their brain with smartphones. Hence mankind's IQ is free falling now, making it more susceptible to hate propaganda from social media filter bubbles until everything drowns in wars.

LOL, I honestly thought this was a joke until I realized that you're serious....Mankind wasn't "brainwashed" and it isn't all some grand "conspiracy", all you have to do is look it up and do your own research (don't just listen whatever popular conspiracy theorist or random internet "expert" says) and you'll learn that EMF does NOT work like that and does not have those kinds of side effects, at the very least not from what would be emitted by consumer products.
If anything, instead of worrying about EMF, people should worry about people actually believing this pseudoscience conspiracy bull**** with out even a second thought. You're right about one thing though, It's pretty obvious that people's IQ lowering...because they are actually falling for this hogwash.
(Also, the reason they used thick shielding like that back in the 80's (not the 1980th whatever the heck that means) was because unlike now, where we have a much better understanding of EMF and have come up with easier and better means to prevent any possible interference, they didn't so they went with what was most likely the cheapest and easiest option that was available to them. The reason we don't use shielding like that anymore isn't because people don't care anymore because they brainwashed by companies. It'd because it's either unnecessary and/or we have better ways of dealing with it. If anything, we have MUCH better handle on things then back then and things are generally much safer because of that.
Think about it, there's lots of cases where things like this happen...Like back in the day, if you wanted to go diving they had to use one of those old timey super heavy diving suits, which worked but were super heavily reinforced, hard to maneuver in, and extremely bulky...but now that technology has advanced we don't need that anymore, we can just use a light weight and much more easy to use scuba suit. Older doesn't necessarily mean "Better" or 'better made", in fact a lot of times it's quite the opposite.)

The first of many unreleased Atari consoles, I feel that this one was the right decision though.
