RIMOWA Luggage Review 2024 (Is it Worth It?)
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 14 พ.ค. 2024
- This is my RIMOWA luggage review. In this video I will go over the pros and cons of a suitcase like this and decide if it's worth the $1,700 price tag. I currently have the RIMOWA Original Cabin Twist Carry On luggage.
RIMOWA has been a staple brand in the luggage world and is definitely one of the more expensive options that you can find. Sure there are competitors like Tumi, or even Away so how does RIMOWA luggage stack up to them?
The RIMOWA Original Cabin is probably the most popular model that they currently sell and the Twist version is only slightly different. Basically the Twist model has colored accents and leather wrapped handles.
Hopefully this RIMOWA review will help you decide if you will purchase it or not.
Shoutout to @AnthonyVenture for telling me to make this video.

Do you think it's worth it?
no lol
The way they will dent i just cant justify it
Im convinced people who promote it saying ‚ahh no no it adds character and tells a story about all of your journeys✨‘ just feel the pain of buying an overpriced product and want to distract themselves by promoting it like that as if they were a salesman of the company.
As if someone ever is going to point at a dent and ask ‚which story is behind this‘ or point at a scratch and ask ‚what cool things happened that lead to this scratch?‘ its not only unrealistic but ridiculous.
I appreciate the craftmanship but my 60€ trolley is very smooth too. Like fr i cant imagine it beeing smoother. If i pay for such a expensive ‚casing‘ then said casing should remain as it came.
Does it come with the tag or you had to buy it?
@@marinct3176 it came with the tag and they will hot stamp it for you for free.
Thank you for reviewing! I was looking for this exact cabin twist in red and yours is the only video I could find.
No problem! I hope it helps with your decision
You’re great with product reviews. Keep’em coming! 👍🏽
I appreciate that! we will see what else I can review
Nice. I got the twist brown leather. Definitely worth the price the way it glides and no drag and holds my duffle keepall 55 on top of it without tipping over. I think the only thing i wished they have done is not loose space inside with the telescopic handles. Nice review! Keep it up!
wow new look to the channel can't wait to see more reviews!
bro imagine only getting a like with no reply
More to come!
i wasnt gonna reply but my friend told me I should
Cool. Good review! Like the “buss up”. 😂
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🏼 hahah ikr. if you know you know 😂
Great product review! wouldn't mind seeing more vids like these. You're vids are always a vibe my dude 💥
hahah thank you my brotha 🔥 hopefully I can do more videos like this in the future
First and foremost, I love the jokes you sneak into these videos! Also, great review! I'm a Samsonite and travel pro fan, but I can see the value in a more premium carry-on. Anything you drag or carry with you shouldn't negatively affect your travel experience.
Awesome, thank you! Those are solid suitcases too tho 👏🏼 Rimowa is really nice.... but you pay such a huge premium for that brand .
I liked samsonite until my brand new first time used suitcase was damaged. Then contacted them to say I would have to pay for damages. Warranty is only for the zippers.
Ironically I just recently bought a new suitcase but it wasn't quite as expensive as this one haha. I really enjoyed this review though man. Every single one of your videos is fun to watch and you'll get a click from me every time! Especially with a clean thumbnail like this one 👊🏼
No SUB was worth it for the extra spend on the Rimowa? hahahah
Yoooo thank you Spencer 🙏🏼
Great video! I also have the Black Twist check-in L and I love it. The leather part is rather delicate (I recommend you to use it for cabin only if you don't want the leather part to be worn ) but still it has its unique character and especially reminds me of old Rimowa Silver Integral series which my family still uses for 18 years now.
Thank you! 🙏🏽 I hope I can use my Rimowa for 18+ years too
👍👍 Great review! Thank you! I really like the Lifetime warranty and can get it fixed at any Rimowa store across the world. Definitely pricey though!
couldnt agree more! the lifetime guarantee was a nice addition but it's still a pricey piece.
I have an Away black aluminum carry-on but I hope to one day upgrade to this exact model. It looks sick. Great video!
Also what backpack are you using?
That suitcase is nice too. but ya Rimowa gives that certain vibe .
I have the Db Journey Ramverk Pro Backpack 32L but the shoulder straps are kinda uncomfortable for me. But I bought the Db Journey Ramverk Backpack 26L and still need to travel with it. I do like the size of the 32L when I need a lot of space. I also used the Supreme The North Face RTG Backpack before.
Great video, thank you🙌🏼I’m just looking for the best cabin suitcase. I think I found it.
Awesome! Thank you! It's definitely an investment and you pay a fat premium for the name/design. But I will die on a hill and say that Rimowa makes the best looking suitcases out of everyone.
Understandable :D@@ChaseYokoyama
FINALLYYYYY!! 🎉😂
Edit: Love the Thumbnail and scooting around on it 🤣
Edit edit: Search & Destroy and airports do not mix 3:05 - got it 😂
hahah I had to do it for YOU! 🔥 🤝🏼
I’d been vacillating on this one however your review just sealed it for me.
im glad that it helped!
I've learned so much from this vlog, and I love your genuine passion. Have you had a chance to explore the new v4 Bento Bag and the Ikigai Backpack from NomadLane? They look like they'd be great companions for your adventures.
Awesome video!! What’s the brand of the backpack you have on 4:33?
Its the Db Journey Ramverk 26L
I can't imagine paying for a suitcase an entire 10% of what I paid for a car - but it's fun to live vicariously through you and watch you walk through it! =)
hahahha ya its quite the "investment" 😢
People who pay this have car at 100k minimum
I love that u don’t treat it preciously. It looks cool all banged up. Bonus points for the stickers
thank you 🙏🏽 the stickers and scratches and dents add to the personality.
Very good review. Am in the market to replace a Tumi that just feels cheap for the price I paid.
try out a Rimowa 👍🏽
I've been using Rimowa polycarbonate luggage since they introduced it in 2000. I need a medium check-in bag and was contemplating the aluminum instead of the poly carbonate. I do know it will get dented. Especially on long haul trips. Do you have any other suggestions for something in the 26" size with a warranty as good as Rimowa? Thank you. Good video by the way. To the point. No fluff!
Thank you. Try looking into Away, Carl Friedrik and Db Journey.
As a consultant, I travel a lot, and I love Rimowa. It’s like an investment to me. I have both the aluminum cabin and the polycarbonate large one.
thats a fire setup
Rimowa aluminum actually tends to be the lightest in comparison to other aluminum offerings by Away or Tumi. Rimowa tends to be in the 10 pound range whereas the others go past 11. It doesn't sound like much but any weight savings = more you can pack.
thanks i actually didn't know that.
I have the check-in and I love it. The dents and scratches give it character and show that you're a seasoned traveller.
It does add a certain look to the whole aesthetic 🌟
Or you were very clumsy when loading the luggage cart the first time you used your suitcase.
Did you try to put it in Emirates Cabin Trunk? Did it fit well? I tried to check the allowable carry on luggage in Emirates and it says Carry-on dimensions should not exceed 55 by 38 by 22 cm. I'm still undecided what cabin size should I take.
Thanks in advance!
Personally I have not tired it myself. However I have seen people talk about how they were able to use this suitcase as a carry on as long as you stay under Emirates' weight limit
Love Rimowa. Have 2
sheeeesh username checks out too. you know how to travel in style
How do you buy the red color; are there different color offerings every year?
I am considering buying this in Japan bc of the recent lifetime guarantee change. But it appears they price hiked by $600 to offer this
idk if they have different colors every year. But I bought mine in a Rimowa store in Hawaii. you could also look to see if the color is available online.
Have had complete set for 10 years -- traveled every corner of this earth from Antarctica to Amazon from Paris to Moscow to Bolivia... Biggest issue is that the clams get unaligned and get hard to close on occasion, the inability to expand like you said -- a fabric case can be expanded and I have had to replace the combination clamps. On the bright side; the case is money -- its strong, it bombproof, its dry. I have replaced wheels but I used them hard -- and they work amazing and smooth on any surface. Net of it... This is a normal metal product that can break like any other item -- and it does -- but the reward is that it is a solid friend 99% of the rest of the time.
Damn thank you for that insight. And hopefully with their new lifetime warranty those unaligned clamshells can be replaced too
@@ChaseYokoyama Agree. I took my large case to Dallas last year ( a service store) and I got charged. My wife had her combination lock not open while traveling in Toronto 2 years ago -- and they charged us for a new combination lock.... Dont know what is included in the lifetime warranty? Maybe my cases are way too old?
@@Coldgecko Lifetime warranty only applies for suitcases purchased on or after July 22, 2022. Older suitcases came with a 5yr warranty I believe.
Ok, great to know... All I know is that I paid a bill for a broken wheel, a misalignment on one piece and a broken lock on another and I have a hole in a forth issue not repaired yet.@@JohnnySilverhand2
Did you have any problem with the size, it looks too wide, Im not sure about getting Cabin or Cabin S, I don't want to be rejected before boarding, thanks
no rejections yet. this size will fit most airlines. Rimowa has an "airline compatibility" link on the product page to help with sizing guidelines.
@@ChaseYokoyama Good to know thanks, Im asking because is not compatible with almost any airline. at least cabin size, I guess that weight is more important than the size, thanks again
I have the Rimowa Original Cabin for over 10 years, still solid and functional. 1700 for 10 years is like 170 a year or 0.46 cent a day. I believe it will easily last for the next 10 years. Personally I love just one cabin case for all purpose. When you own one of this case, trust me you will see the world differently.😊
That's idiot math, that is not how things are actually calculated, that's just how companies try to justify high dollar purchases. I have expensive chairs like Herman Miller, Steelcase etc and that's how they try to justify them and I ignore that. I sit on a chair, all day, everyday, that's the justification, a suitcase makes no sense unless I got it on a huge discount like Marketplace.
I love my suitcase as well. I really hope this one lasts 10 years + as well
I definitely think my Herman Miller chair was a better investment than this suitcase. However it was a nice purchase that makes me happy every time I use it. I know this suitcase is overpriced but I dont regret buying it at all
I'm between this one and the Tumi 19 continental. The biggest thing for me is the dividers, I really like the Tumi zipper compartments. 🤨
personally I don't have experience with the Tumi suitcase so I can't speak to the differences between the two.
i am extremely disappointed that RImowa ended their longtime partnership with Lufthansa, the airline that basically became synonymous with Rimowa. Can thank LVMH for that one. the ridges from the Rimowa actually pay homage to the Juncker plane. prices from the rimowa have gone up too much. I remember when i bought my first rimowas they were half the price they are now. My most recent pick up from Rimowa, was another Alumunium Trunk in Pink and the Alex Israel collab as a carry on. I actually have a 2 wheel carry on suitcas from them still
ya ever since the LVMH purchase and COVID, the prices have skyrocketed
@@ChaseYokoyama exactly and its not like the quality has gone up.
How did you get it dented if this original cabin can be used as a carry on? it pains me to see!
the one time I was late to a flight and there was no overhead cabin space so I had to check my bag at the gate 🤡 literally took just one flight to dent it. very unlucky
@@ChaseYokoyama😭
lifetime warranty is nice, but I can't justify to pay $1700 on a suitcase. I do want one with the push button to drop the handle
the price is crazy.
its cool. but you can get like 20 nice suitcases for this price 🤢
But the 20 nice suitcase may need replacing and definitely won’t last a lifetime
@@Pinkyearlgrey I literally have 50+ year old Samsonite suitcases that were either my parents or friends that still work just fine down in the basement, think mustard yellow and olive green. I have traveled all over and have some cheap no name suitcase from TJ MaXX that's like a plastic hardshell case and it only got damaged once and they put some sort of magic clear tape on it and it's fixed and been using it still for years. You don't need to spend thousands on a suitcase, especially since they can get lost which makes it even dumber to do so.
@@venom5809getting lost is preventable with air tags, but being a target for theft is the main issue. If you wheel this around yet screams high value items inside
do they hold value pretty well for resale?
i have no experience reselling but from what i looked online it seems to sell for around 30% of the original value. of course the better the condition, the better the resale value
Hello. Is the handle snappy? Like does it snap back down
like the telescopic handle? not sure what a snappy handle looks like but it goes down when you push it. Or if you push it past the stages in the handle then it will slide back down on its own
@@ChaseYokoyama the red handle. If your bring it up and let it go does it snap back down to position. All other rimowa luggage the handle snaps back pretty loud
@@ynkeesnum1fan ahhh gotcha. yes the two red handles will "snap" back down on their own. there are little clear plastic nubs on the suitcase itself to protect the handle from hitting the suitcase if that matters.
I got an aluminum Rimowa carry on 15 years ago (pre- LVMH and still made in Germany) and I think it cost me less than $500. It's dinged and dented, but otherwise working perfectly all these years. Is it worth it....$1,700 is steep, but if it's still built like a tank like mine was then definitely, yes.
damn I can't imagine buying it for less than $500. Post LVMH and COVID prices are atrocious
I went with hybrid because I don'r want dents. If I was single, I may splurge, but $1700 is a bit too much for me.
thats a good call. you get part of that iconic look while maintaining sanity. $1,700 really is overpriced.
My Original Cabin is made in Germany, vs Canada for this Twist. To me, that's a notable difference.
For me the quality of this one is just fine but the color difference is what makes me love it.
What is the notable difference? I assure you if you walked into the manufacturing plants the employees would look identical in either country these days….making almost identical money, coming from identical skill sets.
The zippers are starting to fail on my carry-on so I do need a new one. But for $1,700, can I sit on it and have it drive me around the airport? 🚙
I don't know about driving but I use it as a chair quite often with zero issues 😂
get your travel buddy to push you around on it 😅
Been waiting for this since the Anthony Venture Livestream! Yes!!!! 🧳🍿
Hahaha right? Me too! 😂
hahah wow im impressed that you remembered 👏🏼 I hope that it lived up to at least half of your expectations
Rimowa will easily get fixed at one of their shops- I had a dent like that and 5 minutes with a shaping hammer in my garage it was gone.
good to know. not sure how I would do that myself. will probably look up a tutorial if it comes to that
“Bust up,” only in HI. LOL
lmao I didnt realize I said that until I started to edit it 😂
For me personally, when the carry on luggage itself weight close to 4kg, it is a no go for me. My main issue with Rimowa carry on is always the weight. Most airlines only offers 7kg carry on limit and if luggage itself already 4kg, then you can only stuff so little things inside. Especially when I am not travelling with check in luggage. Carry on for me must always be lightweight and don’t really care to have a strong body of the luggage since I am the only one who is handling my carry on, so I do not have any concern on body damage.
i get your point. its nice to have a run and gun carryon setup. Rimowa isnt exactly practical
All of my luggages are less than $100 from Ross or Goodwill; I travel internationally on a monthly basis. $1700 is a lifetime of suicases for me.
thats one way to do it! just out of curiosity how often do you have to replace those suitcases?
Eeew
LVMH boosted the prices
Reason why the CEO is the richest guy in the world.
Many people get fooled and buy collabs.
Fendi vs Rimowa for example.
Both companies are owned by LVMH,do not get fooled by marketing tricks
The only reason I would get one is the lifetime warranty.
Customer service is great
CS is great. The lifetime warranty is part of the reason why i got it. However I agree the prices now are crazy. Definitely paying for that warranty upfront now
For $1700 I don’t want something to dent so easily.
thats totally understandable
All Aluminum suit cases dent! Go buy a plastic one then. Much cheaper
Is it a workmanship warranty?
TBH i had to look up what a workmanship warranty was. but yes it sounds like it is a worksmanship warranty. heres a quote from Rimowa's website "Our Lifetime Guarantee is covering all functional damage to your suitcase - including that caused by transports. "
I understand paying that much for a classy looking carry on. Like if you have the means and the will? Go for it. But what I don't get is paying 1700 for those red accents and leather handle, only to ruin the aluminum case with random stickers 🤣
gotta show off my personality somehow right?
I'm sitting on a Herman Miller Embody chair right now and even I can't figure out how the hell this thing is worth that kind of money, especially since it can be dented so easily. LOL
i got the same chair. it definitely was the better investment than this suitcase was. except I havent tried sitting on the Rimowa yet. Maybe the dents can provide better ergonomics
lol hard shell aluminum body. 👀 me focusing on the dent
its all a part of the "look" 😂
But is it bulletproof?
maybe if you buy enough of them 😅
Be very careful when force closing your suitcase. If you bend the frame, you are screwed
good to know. i didnt know that would be a problem
Weight is killing me….great wheel…but i never use this case anymore, back to my old samsonite
i agree its a bit on the heavier side for sure
I'm ordering the Dior x Rimowa suitcase. That one is really overpriced and not worth it, but you know, why not?
gah damn... 🤯 can I put an order in too please?
When the luggage is expensier than your flight 😅
it be like that sometimes
They are completely out of control with pricing. I've been buying Rimowa since 1999 and I'm done with them.
After COVID and being bought out, the prices really hiked
$1700 😂😂😂 I paid less than €700 for the same one few years back through Lufthansa with airport pickup and mine is made in Germany.
ya they really hiked up prices during COVID. at least it comes with a lifetime guarantee now I guess 🤷🏽♂️ thats just my way of coping
Selling an expensive luggage that gets easily dented/damaged?
They are not hiding their deception anymore.
but it adds to the "aesthetic"
@@ChaseYokoyama aesthetics in deformities is beautiful, yes, at lower prices in which quality and durability do not take precedence.
“Buss up” you must be from hawaii lol
hahah you got that right 😂
If you travel once a year, probably not worth it. If you travel 5-10 times per year, then it is more likely to be worth it, especially international travel.
for sure. unless you leave it in ur room as an "art" investment 😂
What’s the point of getting something so expensive but yet still can’t afford to fly business class
whats wrong with flying economy 😂
try president brand and you will never worry about your luggage getting banged up. rimowa to me is just a status symbol. for 1700dollars it needs to be lightweight and sturdy.
what is president brand?
@@ChaseYokoyama look it up president luggage. they are in the same quality with samsonite but way cheaper.
their aluminium sliver carry ons are definitely worth it. but never buy their check ins. after few uses the luggage has so many dents and scratches they look like you got them from a garbage dump
lmao. yuh the carry on is the way to go
The aluminum is so heavy
u right about that
when u have a rimowa but the flight attendents made u check in ur carryon because u r flying economy 😂
What’s wrong with flying economy?
Right, everyone arrives on the same destination@@ChaseYokoyama
1 thing don't pay 1700 for a 1200 product
$1,200 still expensive for a suitcase
@@ChaseYokoyama it became a fashion piece. its good looking, high quality and everyone knows how much you paid for it! You bought it for Status among all travelers and for that its not that expensive !
@@as114 I agree on all those points except the last one. Price is subjective but I think its expensive and compared to other luggage products its on the higher end
@@ChaseYokoyamathere are products that are more expensive that don't have my listed points, so for what it is it has the best run around package :)
don't get me wrong it is expensive, given the fact that you could get one 5 years ago for 700-800 new. But since lvmh and all the marketing it got more expensive, same with Birkenstock
You spent $1700 so your suitcase can have dents and personality 🤣
just let me cope in peace!
Waste of money.
you can definitely get solid suitcases for a fraction of this price 👐🏼
Looks good but complete garbage for the price.
idk about garbage because it is a good quality product. however the price is pretty steep and you can find other good quality suitcases for much less.
A company more than 100 years old can't be selling their top product as garbage.
Ha. Why do people buy 4 wheel spinner bags? If you are ever at an airport look at what professional pilots use. 2 wheels so you can balance it with another bag. Almost no one travels with just a suitcase. Also the spinner bag is very feminine.
Well im not a pilot... Pilots also have guidelines to follow when it comes to their luggage. Although I will admit 2-wheel luggage is apparently more durable.
It's because pilots don't have checked in luggage and stay overnight or 2 in that place and off to the next destination. Are you flying like that?
Whatta price.. Looks cool, my wallet says nope too pricey
hahha i dont disagree with you on that one 😅
