Been using a rimowa for almost 10 years which lasted me a good 4-5 trips a year. Love the scars and dents. I've only had to replace the wheels once (which was my own cost as they don't have lifetime warranty for legacy rimowas), and they fixed most of the dents for me including leveling the suitcase shell, all for free. They even delivered it back to my hotel for free. Now that my family has grown I definitely will pick up a second one. It may cost a lot more than the regular samsonites or american touristers, but the same people I work with have to replace them every 2-3 years due to damage from rough handling or just rough usage. I'd go for the peace of mind and convenience. This is worth every cent. The only people I wouldn't recommend this for is someone who does heavy shopping when they travel, as there is indeed very little flexibility for space, unless it's all compressible clothing. For me personally, when the carry on luggage itself weight close to 4kg, it is a no go for me. My main issue with Rimowa carry on is always the weight. Most airlines only offers 7kg carry on limit and if luggage itself already 4kg, then you can only stuff so little things inside. Especially when I am not travelling with check in luggage. Carry on for me must always be lightweight and don’t really care to have a strong body of the luggage since I am the only one who is handling my carry on, so I do not have any concern on body damage.
I've been using Rimowa polycarbonate luggage since they introduced it in 2000. I need a medium check-in bag and was contemplating the aluminum instead of the poly carbonate. I got an aluminum Rimowa carry on 15 years ago (pre- LVMH and still made in Germany) and I think it cost me less than $500. It's dinged and dented, but otherwise working perfectly all these years. Is it worth it....$1,700 is steep, but if it's still built like a tank like mine was then definitely, yes.
I have an Away black aluminum carry-on but I hope to one day upgrade to this exact model. It looks sick. Great video! Also what backpack are you using?
That suitcase is nice too. but ya Rimowa gives that certain vibe . I have the Db Journey Ramverk Pro Backpack 32L but the shoulder straps are kinda uncomfortable for me. @@ynkeesnum1fan ahhh gotcha. yes the two red handles will "snap" back down on their own. there are little clear plastic nubs on the suitcase itself to protect the handle from hitting the suitcase if that matters.
TBH i had to look up what a workmanship warranty was. but yes it sounds like it is a worksmanship warranty. heres a quote from Rimowa's website "Our Lifetime Guarantee is covering all functional damage to your suitcase - including that caused by transports. "
If you travel once a year, probably not worth it. If you travel 5-10 times per year, then it is more likely to be worth it, especially international travel.
LVMH boosted the prices Reason why the CEO is the richest guy in the world. Many people get fooled and buy collabs. Fendi vs Rimowa for example. Both companies are owned by LVMH,do not get fooled by marketing tricks The only reason I would get one is the lifetime warranty. Customer service is great
CS is great. The lifetime warranty is part of the reason why i got it. However I agree the prices now are crazy. Definitely paying for that warranty upfront now
I’ve had about 8 Tumi pieces. Large to small. Overall I’m pretty happy as soft luggage has more flexibility (I’ve had to hold my bags in my lap in taxis or on trains many times). Also it’s easier to wedge a cloth bag into a trunk or overhead.
try president brand and you will never worry about your luggage getting banged up. rimowa to me is just a status symbol. for 1700dollars it needs to be lightweight and sturdy.
With Rimowa it was never the price which detered me, it was the weight. At 10 lb/4.5 kg is simply not practical.... Early in my career I traveled with very heavy Briggs and Riley but switched to zipperless polycarbonate with Hinimoto wheels years ago.
NO, as they’re not as durable as they‘ve been a decade ago for half the price (pre LVMH). plus the so called „life warranty „ isn‘t a real life warranty at all... And in the end it shouldn’t break at first so easily as it does these days!
their aluminium sliver carry ons are definitely worth it. but never buy their check ins. after few uses the luggage has so many dents and scratches they look like you got them from a garbage dump
I'm sitting on a Herman Miller Embody chair right now and even I can't figure out how the hell this thing is worth that kind of money, especially since it can be dented so easily. LOL
i got the same chair. it definitely was the better investment than this suitcase was. except I havent tried sitting on the Rimowa yet. Maybe the dents can provide better ergonomics
I understand paying that much for a classy looking carry on. Like if you have the means and the will? Go for it. But what I don't get is paying 1700 for those red accents and leather handle, only to ruin the aluminum case with random stickers 🤣
I would say if you wanna have so many kids it is important to know that you can give them a good life and support them without problems until they are independent. Well im not a pilot... Pilots also have guidelines to follow when it comes to their luggage. Although I will admit 2-wheel luggage is apparently more durable.

good to know. i didnt know that would be a problem
do they hold value pretty well for resale?
i have no experience reselling but from what i looked online it seems to sell for around 30% of the original value. of course the better the condition, the better the resale value
I've learned so much from this vlog, and I love your genuine passion. Have you had a chance to explore the new v4 Bento Bag and the Ikigai Backpack from NomadLane? They look like they'd be great companions for your adventures.
Hello. Is the handle snappy? Like does it snap back down
like the telescopic handle? not sure what a snappy handle looks like but it goes down when you push it. Or if you push it past the stages in the handle then it will slide back down on its own
@@ChaseYokoyama the red handle. If your bring it up and let it go does it snap back down to position. All other rimowa luggage the handle snaps back pretty loud
@@ynkeesnum1fan ahhh gotcha. yes the two red handles will "snap" back down on their own. there are little clear plastic nubs on the suitcase itself to protect the handle from hitting the suitcase if that matters.
The zippers are starting to fail on my carry-on so I do need a new one. But for $1,700, can I sit on it and have it drive me around the airport? 🚙
I don't know about driving but I use it as a chair quite often with zero issues 😂
get your travel buddy to push you around on it 😅
I bought the 1400 but now I’m kind of regretting because I travel international a lot and since it’s heavy I can only put a little in it
All of my luggages are less than $100 from Ross or Goodwill; I travel internationally on a monthly basis. $1700 is a lifetime of suicases for me.
thats one way to do it! just out of curiosity how often do you have to replace those suitcases?
Eeew
Weight is killing me….great wheel…but i never use this case anymore, back to my old samsonite
i agree its a bit on the heavier side for sure
Is it a workmanship warranty?
TBH i had to look up what a workmanship warranty was. but yes it sounds like it is a worksmanship warranty. heres a quote from Rimowa's website "Our Lifetime Guarantee is covering all functional damage to your suitcase - including that caused by transports. "
Been waiting for this since the Anthony Venture Livestream! Yes!!!! 🧳🍿
Hahaha right? Me too! 😂
hahah wow im impressed that you remembered 👏🏼 I hope that it lived up to at least half of your expectations
If you travel once a year, probably not worth it. If you travel 5-10 times per year, then it is more likely to be worth it, especially international travel.
for sure. unless you leave it in ur room as an "art" investment 😂
$1700 😂😂😂 I paid less than €700 for the same one few years back through Lufthansa with airport pickup and mine is made in Germany.
ya they really hiked up prices during COVID. at least it comes with a lifetime guarantee now I guess 🤷🏽♂️ thats just my way of coping
LVMH boosted the prices
Reason why the CEO is the richest guy in the world.
Many people get fooled and buy collabs.
Fendi vs Rimowa for example.
Both companies are owned by LVMH,do not get fooled by marketing tricks
The only reason I would get one is the lifetime warranty.
Customer service is great
CS is great. The lifetime warranty is part of the reason why i got it. However I agree the prices now are crazy. Definitely paying for that warranty upfront now
Damn bro spent that much on a suitcase and his apartment looking like used ikea 😭
They are completely out of control with pricing. I've been buying Rimowa since 1999 and I'm done with them.
After COVID and being bought out, the prices really hiked
But is it bulletproof?
maybe if you buy enough of them 😅
I’ve had about 8 Tumi pieces. Large to small. Overall I’m pretty happy as soft luggage has more flexibility (I’ve had to hold my bags in my lap in taxis or on trains many times). Also it’s easier to wedge a cloth bag into a trunk or overhead.
Who is here after Adam Savage talking about his?
I just saw the video im guessing you are referring to. I have yet to buy and test a soft Rimowa. Maybe one day that will happen.
Weight?
about 10 lbs
The design and functionality of the internal dividers makes or breaks the luggage … not very practical compared to other good brands
its not the worst but it could be better
When the luggage is expensier than your flight 😅
it be like that sometimes
Love Rimowa. Have 2
sheeeesh username checks out too. you know how to travel in style
“Bust up,” only in HI. LOL
lmao I didnt realize I said that until I started to edit it 😂
Rimowa Facebook algorithm always appear in my feed 😂
its SIGNS
If you need to put stickers on anything to make it look good......................
try president brand and you will never worry about your luggage getting banged up. rimowa to me is just a status symbol. for 1700dollars it needs to be lightweight and sturdy.
what is president brand?
@@ChaseYokoyama look it up president luggage. they are in the same quality with samsonite but way cheaper.
I'm ordering the Dior x Rimowa suitcase. That one is really overpriced and not worth it, but you know, why not?
gah damn... 🤯 can I put an order in too please?
With Rimowa it was never the price which detered me, it was the weight. At 10 lb/4.5 kg is simply not practical.... Early in my career I traveled with very heavy Briggs and Riley but switched to zipperless polycarbonate with Hinimoto wheels years ago.
100%. The weight between aluminum and polycarb is night and day.
NO, as they’re not as durable as they‘ve been a decade ago for half the price (pre LVMH). plus the so called „life warranty „ isn‘t a real life warranty at all... And in the end it shouldn’t break at first so easily as it does these days!
pre LVMH definitely was a different breed
The aluminum is so heavy
u right about that
From the comments, there is really no product that fits all.
yup.
their aluminium sliver carry ons are definitely worth it. but never buy their check ins. after few uses the luggage has so many dents and scratches they look like you got them from a garbage dump
lmao. yuh the carry on is the way to go
“Buss up” you must be from hawaii lol
hahah you got that right 😂
What’s the point of getting something so expensive but yet still can’t afford to fly business class
whats wrong with flying economy 😂
I'm sitting on a Herman Miller Embody chair right now and even I can't figure out how the hell this thing is worth that kind of money, especially since it can be dented so easily. LOL
i got the same chair. it definitely was the better investment than this suitcase was. except I havent tried sitting on the Rimowa yet. Maybe the dents can provide better ergonomics
lol hard shell aluminum body. 👀 me focusing on the dent
its all a part of the "look" 😂
You spent $1700 so your suitcase can have dents and personality 🤣
just let me cope in peace!
when u have a rimowa but the flight attendents made u check in ur carryon because u r flying economy 😂
What’s wrong with flying economy?
Right, everyone arrives on the same destination@@ChaseYokoyama
I understand paying that much for a classy looking carry on. Like if you have the means and the will? Go for it. But what I don't get is paying 1700 for those red accents and leather handle, only to ruin the aluminum case with random stickers 🤣
gotta show off my personality somehow right?
I assume this dude does NOT have a wife and 5 kids to support. Because I’ve never paid more than $17.50 for luggage.
you would be very correct. There are tons of more affordable options that do the exact same thing. Im in no way saying you need a Rimowa
I would say if you wanna have so many kids it is important to know that you can give them a good life and support them without problems until they are independent. Nobody who can not afford to have kids should have so many of them. Enjoy your 17 dollar suitcase or just take a trash bag, it is even cheaper🫡
@@lubomirdomansky5079
My kids didn’t have a good life because they didn’t have expensive suitcases? That’s sure interesting priorities! Haha
@@sombojoe yes, of course thats exactly what i wanted to tell🤣 read again and have a wonderful life. Not sure where i mentioned that you need expensive luggage to be happy or have happy kids
@@lubomirdomansky5079
Oh sorry, I didn’t realize that you were actually agreeing with me and saying being frugal in many ways actually did enable me to give them a fruitful and successful life. Didn’t realize you were being sincere about enjoying my economical luggage in order to raise my kids. Gotcha!
Selling an expensive luggage that gets easily dented/damaged?
They are not hiding their deception anymore.
but it adds to the "aesthetic"
@@ChaseYokoyama aesthetics in deformities is beautiful, yes, at lower prices in which quality and durability do not take precedence.
1 thing don't pay 1700 for a 1200 product
$1,200 still expensive for a suitcase
@@ChaseYokoyama it became a fashion piece. its good looking, high quality and everyone knows how much you paid for it! You bought it for Status among all travelers and for that its not that expensive !
@@as114 I agree on all those points except the last one. Price is subjective but I think its expensive and compared to other luggage products its on the higher end
@@ChaseYokoyamathere are products that are more expensive that don't have my listed points, so for what it is it has the best run around package :)
don't get me wrong it is expensive, given the fact that you could get one 5 years ago for 700-800 new. But since lvmh and all the marketing it got more expensive, same with Birkenstock
Pronounced “rimoVA.”
maybe if it was Hawaiian
@@ChaseYokoyama It’s a German brand. Just fyi…
Waste of money.
you can definitely get solid suitcases for a fraction of this price 👐🏼
Imagine spending 1700 for a 'personality'
good thing that wasn't the only reason why i bought it
Looks good but complete garbage for the price.
idk about garbage because it is a good quality product. however the price is pretty steep and you can find other good quality suitcases for much less.
A company more than 100 years old can't be selling their top product as garbage.
Ha. Why do people buy 4 wheel spinner bags? If you are ever at an airport look at what professional pilots use. 2 wheels so you can balance it with another bag. Almost no one travels with just a suitcase. Also the spinner bag is very feminine.
Well im not a pilot... Pilots also have guidelines to follow when it comes to their luggage. Although I will admit 2-wheel luggage is apparently more durable.
It's because pilots don't have checked in luggage and stay overnight or 2 in that place and off to the next destination. Are you flying like that?
Does having dents and scratches on your car, show that you've travelled alot of kms? LOL
I feel like yes, worth the money - but the dividers really annoy me at times, as small things fall out when you try to close the bag. And the black one, really shows the scratches.
F the character aspect of those dings, they would drive me nuts.
ya eventually they would get out of hand
Whatta price.. Looks cool, my wallet says nope too pricey
hahha i dont disagree with you on that one 😅
