Thanks for this review kabayan, I was looking for a Rimowa alternative and bumped into this video. Appreciate this review and wish you and your family all the best. :)
RIMOWA IS TOP OF THE LINE, but heavy. The plastic versions of Rimova are better if you don't want to pay the extra luggage fees when it weighs too much. TUMI is almost as good or equal to Rimowa. Samsonite is also made in GERMANY like Rimowa but people in the United States don't know about it much. Samsonite is very well made and I would go with Samsonite any day if my TUMI or RIMOWA is not available or I need extra luggage.
Are the latches plastic or metal? I bought another brand that is similar and very disappointed that the latches are plastic. After one trip they are starting to break.
I bought a Rimowa $1000 many years ago.. regretted as it is too heavy and small capacity ...more for vanity than practical usage...now I leave Rimowa at home and travel with my $50 super great PPE luggage Made in China.. and after 3 yrs still too good to be replaced...@@familydayoff
Bought one for every member of my family, 4 in all. 2 of the 4 have a problem with the telescoping handle...the handle does NOT stay in place, collapses with any modest pressure. So 50% product failure is NOT good. This is a major impact in functionality since you use the telescoping handle when rolling throughout the airport. So take your chances with MVST. Maybe it will work or NOT. Big time disappointed.
What make rimowa expensive is the lifetime warranty and its cover all around the world. I have experienced when traveling to Europe and the wheel was broken. It’s hard to find the repair shop. At the end I have to bought the new luggage. But with rimowa you just drop at any rimowa branch and get fix within hours. Price not represented only design, and quality. But it also the after sales service. That’s the power of brand. Cheers… 🥂
Nice video but remember that price is actually a feature, in luxury items. A Seiko cannot be a substitute for a Rolex for a number of reasons including the price. At a certain level you do choose an expensive item over a cheaper one because you can afford it and others cannot, and you want those others (those who have ad adeguate taste, of course) to know that. Price is a feature.

Great review! I was about to buy the Level 8 Aluminum until I saw this review and you convinced me. Just bought the TREK Carry-On and Medium in Army Green. Can't wait to get them! Thanks
If you don't mind, some specifics please re " the locks broke..." Was this on the Trek or the Space? The carry on or check in? And you say locks as in plural - on the same case or two different ones? Also, likewise you mentioned a problem with wheels? These are important and was almost going to pull the trigger on either the Space or Trek... and by far my #1 priority is durability. I often fly with audio gear (fragile / $$) for work and always carry on a minimal kit to get the job done just in case something happens with the larger check in. And occasionally I must gate check my carry-on so the idea of extra protection is comforing. Plus with aluminum as least I can quickly tell if the bag took a hit or was squashed. Thank you for your time -
Thanks for watching. This is the trek series. Two locks on two different cases stopped functioning as smoothly as supposed to. We had to bend them back in place for it to close again. Also one of the locks that did that doesn't open so easily. It's requiring a little finagling in order for it to open. The case in itself is built like a tank. I am in touch with them now to get them sent back to replace the locks that broke. The locks on the space seem a little bit more durable since it's a smaller moving part. Although the space is much more limited inside. Hope that helps

In 2016 LVHM bought Rimowa and as so often when LVHM buys a brand the quality goes down. It has not happend so fast for Rimowa but I would guess the quality will continue to go down so maybe some other brand would be better allready…?
@@familydayoff Hmm... I've certainly had (and have) less expensive luggage. For me, it's the luxury aspect of Rimowa. The story behind the brand, the reasoning for being aluminum, the price. Sure my $80 luggage from Costco also gets it done, but I enjoy my Rimowa much more. I disagree that "good branding" has fools buying into lies. We may all have different opinions as to "worth" but using cost of materials as the sole determiner of value (as I see often in various comment sections) is a shortsighted argument. Good branding also tells a brand's story in a way that highlights and represents their ideals and ethos, and answers the all important question, "why?"
I looked at a lot of backpacks before deciding to *rrcopys* their bag. I'm so glad I did. This is a beautiful backpack that looks well made. Hey thanks for the review. I am struggling between Trek and Space. I noticed Trek has three hinges but Space only has two. Have you noticed any difference in performance?
It is very interesting to see who actually uses Rimowa’s. Seems like in Asia it is much more of a status symbol to have this type of luggage and the only person I know that actually owns one is in the Philippines. Now granted my friend even transporter wine bottles in her luggage so it does protect the insides but much better than other hard sided luggage remains to be seen.
@@familydayoff The interesting thing is most people want that the aluminum carry on's because they won't get beat up as much, but typically you don't need much protection on a carry on because you aren't tossing it around. But then how many people want to spend $1500 on a full sized piece of luggage that is just going to get thrown around and beaten up anyway and you are only seeing a for a few minutes or hours each year. Would be nice to see them in person to really judge. Thanks again for the review.

@Zo Ki because they wouldn't help me and I wanted to spread the word about them as a company
I ordered a luggage set from MVST for a trip coming up soon and they didn’t even notify me that my shipment would be delayed. I had to look on their website for the update.
Unbelievable
Went with the Tumi. It looks like Tumi is the only one that makes an aluminum suitcase that is expandable.
While it's very expensive, the rimowa's lifetime guarantee is hard to beat
Thanks for this review kabayan, I was looking for a Rimowa alternative and bumped into this video. Appreciate this review and wish you and your family all the best. :)
You’re welcome. Glad we can be of service Kababayan! And thank you also for your support!
Thanks for the info. Seems like you have a lot of experience. Do you travel a lot?
He found it for "about a fraction of the price." The word "about" usually goes with a specific number or it's not really needed
Are the latches plastic or metal? I bought another brand that is similar and very disappointed that the latches are plastic. After one trip they are starting to break.
They are plastic. Did you buy a new suitcase yet?
I trust your honesty!
You bought it, wasn’t a freebie.
“Real deal, Holyfield”
I haven’t heard that one since when I had two good ears.
lol you’re aging your self. Iron Mike or Real Deal?
you can buy directly from the very same factory for USD80... for 26 inch
For sure..lots of imitations but i think it matters on the services on the end. Wouldn't you agree?
Cheers… 🥂
th-cam.com/video/C7FyoFEHl4g/w-d-xo.html
Nice video but remember that price is actually a feature, in luxury items. A Seiko cannot be a substitute for a Rolex for a number of reasons including the price. At a certain level you do choose an expensive item over a cheaper one because you can afford it and others cannot, and you want those others (those who have ad adeguate taste, of course) to know that. Price is a feature.
Good point!
Out of curiosity. Which travel suitcase is more expensive than Rimowa?
Check this Sterling Pacific: 🧳Is The Sterling Pacific Suitcase The Ultimate Rimowa Alternative?
th-cam.com/video/OMWEA1PayGo/w-d-xo.html
I think the quality surpasses Rimowa.
I was dating a Chinese girl. She had very beautiful luggage she brought from China. Same features as the one you show. I’m sure they weren’t expensive. But she traveled with those everywhere and they were very good quality. This one’s I read a lot of complaints about. I’m thinking of just ordering something for. China hahshhs
You are definitely talking about a brand called LeadMing, they make decent quality luggage for affordable prices.
Great review! I was about to buy the Level 8 Aluminum until I saw this review and you convinced me. Just bought the TREK Carry-On and Medium in Army Green. Can't wait to get them! Thanks
You're welcome. Do you have a trip coming up?
😀
Yeah, just a bunch of domestic flights this year. Tahiti next year
If you don't mind, some specifics please re " the locks broke..." Was this on the Trek or the Space?
I have just had my MVST suitcase and the suitcase got badly damaged when it arrived and MVST Did not want to know, or to help (it was like "we have your money", Now we don't care). On first flight the original damage got worse so will have to put it down to patina look. Rimowa does look after it's customers and thats what you are paying for, as part of the high price.
I had to return mine. Lining was not well fabricated. Exterior was excellent!
Oh no. How was the return experience for you?
@@familydayoff I do not want to deal with this product! Big mistake!
MVST is also made and engineered in 🇩🇪 GERMANY. ORIGINALLY FROM MUNICH, GERMANY.
apiece....stop lying. MVST = CHINA
Thank you so much for the review on this suitcase. I am looking to get the medium-sized one, It looks like the large one doesn't hold much more than a medium. I am heading to the Philippines at the end of September. I'm not sure if you acquired the large one. Any feedback that you could provide on either medium or larger size would be greatly appreciated 🤙
Thanks for the feedback. The Large one does hold a lot more than the medium. Where in the Philippines will you be going?
@@familydayoff Did you have any issues on the large for measurements I found it to be 61.8 Linear inches did the airline give you any issues? I have read that some Airlines consider it oversized? I will be traveling to Cebu, Mindanao, Subic bay amigo long time waiting have not been there since 2019.
The large did not give us any problems while flying. We hope you'll have a great time in the Philippines. They are really celebrating being out of lock-down. Are you from the Philippines originally?@@NikkosExperience
TUMI is the alternative for Rimowa
There’s another one we highly recommend. Check this one out STERLING PACIFIC: th-cam.com/video/OMWEA1PayGo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=x2r7hKKSNKNhz89t
I have the trunk from Rimowa for a 1.5 years now. It took 2 weeks for the hooks holding the straps inside to break. 1500 can$ for that, unacceptable. Yes, i’m looking for alternative.
Oh dang... have you decided on an alternative yet?
Totally agree. I love mine too.
Great comparison! We just ordered 2 of the carry on and will take them to Hawaii in a couple months! It was between this and Tumi.
First of all how was Hawaii? What case did you end up buying?
Showing celebrities with a product should not convince anyone. The thought mentality is that if the rich are buying x product, it _must be worth the price_ . However, companies understand this social perception, which is why Companies _give free products to the rich_ .
Yes I agree. But companies keep doing it because it works.
@@familydayoff I'm saying it shouldn't, though. If everyone realized that Taylor Swift was given that Gucci bag, that Kardashian does not use her own makeup brand, that Oprah did not lose weight from her weight loss program, then perhaps the world would be a little better.

I'm looking at possibly getting these for my upcoming return trip to the Philippines. Any updates as far as how they are holding up? I believe you mentioned the locks broke, was the issue resolved to your satisfaction?
We’re still trying to get a hold of them. They haven’t responded yet. We’ll be making a follow up video soon.
There's also Xiaomi which makes a clone.
Personally I avoid aluminum cases as they scratch up and attract too much attention.
@@QuickQuips Understandably, but we think the scratches look cool. What did you think of the video?
In 2016 LVHM bought Rimowa and as so often when LVHM buys a brand the quality goes down. It has not happend so fast for Rimowa but I would guess the quality will continue to go down so maybe some other brand would be better allready…?
So is the case when corporate greed is involved. Would you recommend a different brand?
thanks for the great video.
Btw, what's that song from 0:40 to 1:15? Does someone know it?
I don't know.... I got it off this website though: epidemic sound.
I’ve regretted all my rimowa aluminum cases. Actually even my polycarbonate one has unfixable cracks.
Oh no. What happened to them?
Excelente Video. A really good product we need count that a carbon suitcase is easyier to keep our baggage unter 10 kg. 👌
Rimowa is all about the wheels …. The way it slides is unmatched . I need a comparison from someone who has owned a rimowa

"Porsche has a Nissan Z... " haha! epic! Love my Rimowa. :)
Exactly
What’s the best part of your Rimowa ownership?
Great video. Just what I needed. Answered all of my questions.
Great to hear! 🔥❤️
Not really. No complaints about the hinges. The main differences are the lock mechanism, the interior and exterior. Do you have a trip coming up?
@@familydayoff Always. I ended up getting it (Space). Now waiting for it to arrive.
OOR THEY WATER PROOF
It is very interesting to see who actually uses Rimowa’s. Seems like in Asia it is much more of a status symbol to have this type of luggage and the only person I know that actually owns one is in the Philippines. Now granted my friend even transporter wine bottles in her luggage so it does protect the insides but much better than other hard sided luggage remains to be seen.
That said good review even if I don’t see the need.
You hit the nail on the head. Having a Rimowa is mostly for status!
I have Rimowa Salsa air because of its weight. Very light especially when traveling to Asia where carryon and checked baggage are weighed and strict limits. I’ve been looking for other lightweight cheaper suitcases. I have BEIS, Brics and Kipling for domestic travel that is less strict with weight.
I use Rimowa for Asia because it’s light

Rimowa is over a century old, please no comparison. These luggages should cost $100 at max
Really hate to write this here, but don't make the mistake of buying MVST luggages. I found out the hard way. bought 2, both became defective after 1 use in light rain. Wheels designed poorly, debris easily gets inside and no longer glides smooth. Feels absolutely horrible now. All of my friend's luggages didn't have this issue. Poorly designed wheels and defective luggages. Customer support did absolutely nothing and was rude. They told me to wash my wheels often. How in the world did support muster up the audacity to tell someone who is struggling with their poorly designed product this!! :(
