There’s a good reason why 99% of Rimowa reviews online are of the carry-on size instead of the check-in size. It’s almost like everyone knows aluminum luggage will get ruined after just one trip, so everyone buys carry-on size and avoid airline check-in.
Great review. I have a silver 2006 Rimowa Topas Check-In (now known as Original). Mine is beaten as hell, but that's the beauty of Rimowa - every ding, dent, and scratch tells a story since I've had it dragged in dirt paths in rural Philippines to wheeling through in the streets of NYC. It's not meant to be kept in mint condition. I'm person who puts stickers on it from wherever I travel. 😁I love getting looks and glances, especially when it comes out of the baggage carousel. It's important to note that the "silver" is the raw aluminum case. Any colors are applied over the aluminum. So, the scuffs ultimately expose the aluminum. If you're going to fly with any luggage, expect it to be beaten up. (View any video on YT to see how bags are handled. Handlers don't really give a crap whether you have a Rimowa or a cheap $100 bag.) Rimowa is definitely an investment that has paid off. I'm considering splurging on the Essential Cabin (much to my husband's consternation) to replace my Tumi Ducati carry-on as I've been taking more short business trips. Lots of less expensive knock-offs out there, but you can DEFINITELY spot a Rimowa. It's like a special club.
I would liked to watch your video before buying my black one 😢. I should be very careful with my carry on . But I would buy the aluminium Classic, next time
ended up buying a $50 USD clear luggage cover for my origiinal silver aluminum trunk works really good. has kept it looking almost like new after several trips. actually has less scratches then my cabin which i don't use a cover on as i always put it in the overhead bin but since no cover it has acquired scratches from other people's bags in the bin.
I traveled over a million miles with Rimowa and Tumi. I also used Samonite sometimes which lasts at least 250k miles. I have had wheels broken off and banged up pretty hard (to the point of not moving or not able to go in a straight line. I had screws fallen off. So, you may need repairs. Just keep in mind that you are buying this for flying, not for saving it in mint condition in your home. If you do not want to see your expensive suitcase scratched up, then do not buy one. Get a less expensive one like Samsonite.
thank you for taking your time to post review video, that helps A LOT !! now i will skip the black, 60% toward the classic silver, or a white hybrid as my wife is liking the color
I completely agree with you Janice!! I purchased the Original Check-in L and the Cabin size in black and had the same experience as you. For me..after 1 flight from London Heathrow to Taipei via Hong Kong the case looked like I had dragged it through the streets to get to my destination! I was horrified haha! I have now accepted the fact that it ages faster than the silver and will look beat up after just a few flights/uses. Like you said, some people love that as I guess it shows how much they travel/use it..but I think if you care about aesthetics, then it is best to go for the silver. Overall though, I do think Rimowa luggage is still a good way to go if you can afford it and have a thing for luggage. Great review!
Now that we moved here this year, we’ve been using the carry ons a ton and I really do love them and they’re great when travelling by train which we never used to do. We gave up on preserving the black one 🤣 the silver still looks 👌🏻 though.
Great review! One question though, what do you make of the catches (locks) on the original versus the classic? I’ve got an original cabin and the catches feel really robust how they hook on the other side and lever down. I really like the look of the classic, but the catches look a bit more delicate/fragile, which puts me off a bit.
They’re different but both seem very effective. I haven’t had an issue with anything ever coming loose on either one so far and both seem sturdy to me.
My question is if the classic cabin, sometimes might be I have to check it in if I fly low cost airline. How was your experience if you checked it in and how did it come out on the other side?
This is wild. I'm going to the Rimowa store tomorrow to pick up a carry-on for a trip next week, but I found your page an hour ago because of the liver cleanse video.
Thanks A Lot. This Video Has Helped Me Choose The Luggage Im Purchase. Had My Mind Made Up With The Black Classic Carry-on, But Im Go With The Sliver One Now LOL ❤
May I know if what size of cabin size that you have? I’m planning to take the original Cabin S but when I check in the Emirates they only allow 55x38x20.
for the same reason I was planning to get the S model but is still big for many airlines, Im always traveling around the world, In Europe especially it could be a big problem, did you get anyone?
Your big suitcases were not that banged up. I traveled with the Rimowa trunk and check in suitcase all the time, flying over 1 million miles. Yes, it got some dings (similar to yours), but it works. If you expect it to be super perfect like most people who comment here, then yes, just buy a cabin version.
Thanks for this! Seeing the black v the silver was super helpful! Never seen them side by side like this. i have one rose quartz cabin and wondered what pieces are next given the colour isn't available anymore.
Great Video. I have the Original Cabin in Black that I bought in Germany in 2015. As I live in Japan, I only had to check it in a few times but I always carried a clear vinyl protector that I can easily put on if I check it in (purchased from amazon). Luckily for me it still looks good, not to mention Japan is pretty good at taking care of check in luggage with their rubberized luggage carousels. I do however like the locking mechanism better on the Original Cabin than the Classic, I feel it is a bit more sturdier although the classic look is nicer. As for a check in I would probably purchase the 62L size, not so big.
Unfortunately, I have never seen any of their classic pieces go on sale. I think it’s one of those brands that is always excluded from sales. I’m in Germany now and checked the price of my smaller suitcase at the store and it’s 1130 €, depending where you live maybe you could get the VAT back so it definitely it cheaper to buy in Euros than Canadian dollars like I did. We have been using them a ton this year as we have been travelling a lot and I really love the small ones 🥰
“I’ve gotten” not “I’ve got” 0:20 Review is good, but I was distracted by your perfect passive participle misuse throughout the whole video. “Nothing has gone wrong” not “nothing has went wrong.” “Beaten up” not “beat up.” 🤐 I stopped part way.

Best review I’ve seen 👏🏼 now I just need you to compare the Classic Cabin with the Original Cabin lol

So a condom. Just use the luggage. You condom wrap your car too?
Janice, thank you for the great review as this was most helpful. Also, is that a Rimowa shirt top that your wearing, it looks fab!! 😎
Hi Janice!
Great review, thank you!
Please have you ever considered “TUMI 19 Degree Aluminum Carry On”?
Have a nice day.
I know which one you mean but I don’t know much about Tumi. It looks nice to me. Do you own one?

I love your earrings, I would like to know where you bought them 🥰
Thanks! I got them here: bit.ly/3TEwiDc

I have never checked my silver one but the black one got scratched (as expected)
Great comprehensive review Janice, thank you!
Thank you 😊 and thanks for watching!!
i understand its luxury pricing but their luggage was half the price just 3 years ago especially here in germany
I know, the prices are definitely out of control now. Hopefully these ones will last my lifetime.
Because company is bought by LV Group

Brilliant review. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Same here , my husband and I love to travel and im wondering if get a RIMOWA or MVST select , both are aluminum.
Great video and I appreciate your view on the luxury brand.

Good choice 👍🏻
Our of topic. Im just more curious what lipstick/gloss u used.
bit.ly/3GOQFFW I think back then I wore this clear gloss I got a sample from Sephora that I liked.
Just got a cabin. Haven’t you had any experiences on it being too big for some flights?
No, never.
May I know if what size of cabin size that you have? I’m planning to take the original Cabin S but when I check in the Emirates they only allow 55x38x20.
Hi, this cabin suitcase measures 21.7 x 15.8 x 9.1 inches
@@JaniceEadie Thanks for the response! Did it fit to Emirates Cabin?
It will fit, we have never had a problem on any airline 😊
@@JaniceEadie thank you
for the same reason I was planning to get the S model but is still big for many airlines, Im always traveling around the world, In Europe especially it could be a big problem, did you get anyone?
When you pack the large check in luggage, how many lbs does it weight?
Around 50lbs-you have to be careful not to overpack it because it can easily go overweight for most airlines
