    Yes, Hai-lan was my favorite from the series Ruyi, royal love in the palace and I think in the series, they represented Consort Yu (Hai-lan) well, humble and reserved.

    I would say Consort Yu has really good parenting skills (provided if she raised her son by her side). Unfortunately her son didn't inherit the longevity DNA from his parents. 😭

    It's odd how she only had one child once it was obvious that he was special I would think they would want another. Also, I find it strange how he would not promote her especially after the fire. just for raising a son to be strategic,brave, and filial to his father...such a petty man

    I think that Qianglong didn’t let Yongqi’s wife mourn for Consort Yu because he might’ve blamed her for Yongqi’s death, and believed she didn’t deserve to have her daughter in law mourn for her.

      For me the real love story is between Hai-lan and Ruyi in Ruyi's Royal love in the palace. Hai-lan was also a smart and good parent to Yong qi and loyal to Qianlong and understood him even if he didnt like her.
      Especially when Ruyi was in the cold palace due to injustice and schemes Qianlong being an a**hole then Hai-lan completely changed herself , became strong and got pregnant and when she gave birth (difficult birth where she almost died) she didnt care about herself she said "sister i have finally given birth to A SON FOR US" OMG my heart at that moment🥺🥲😍💔 such selfless and deep love

    Hailan is known as the Emperor Qianlong's Greatest Qing Dynasty Burrito 🌯 she is more tastier than A'Ruo in Burrito form. 😆
    She is also known as the greatest Ancient Chinese Food mukbhanger as you can see she is the most fed consort and she eats lots of food without getting too big in some scenes. I wish she have her own TH-cam Channel helping us get to know everything about Qing Dynasty's food under Qianlong's reign.
    Meanwhile Janine Chang, the actress who plays Hailan has a law background in real life so no wonder everytime Hailan's speaks you feel the conviction and she is Ruyi's advocate.

    • @ancientchinesehistorychannel
      @ancientchinesehistorychannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s the way how Qing emperors chose imperial women for royal clan members. You can have a big picture of this process from below video.

    • @myrtlesnow2397
      @myrtlesnow2397 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      They most likely chose her because she was talented or extremely beautiful. Since she was lower class, her status was low to start as well. In the harem your clan status did not mean too much aside from power to lean back on. Consort Ling rose from a maid, to the highest in the entire harem over many years, so family status was not all that important, it mattered more who the emperor loved and trusted.

      @@poetrysinitial572 Most women passed away early because the average life expectancy back then was in the thirties, which was considered old! His position was basically that of a god, he was the "son of heaven" and wielded divine power so he basically did whatever he wanted because he and everyone else saw himself as superior, so he probably had a huge ego.

    • @myrtlesnow2397
      @myrtlesnow2397 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@helloly Just because he lived longer than the average life expectancy in those times, does not mean that many adults and children did not die at young ages by todays means. As the Emperor he had people watching his every move, making every meal and tending for him at every second. Doctors were only a room away. He had numerous children that all died young, and quite a few were in their teens and twenties. The show made it apparent to show characters such as the Empress saying "look how old I look" when there is not even a wrinkle on her face, to further the point that they knew how people died young in those days and even in their 30s they were considered getting old. Even the common cold could be deadly.

    I always wonder why Qianlong didn't promote her high enough when he love Yongqi that much. What's wrong with her?

    • @ancientchinesehistorychannel
      @ancientchinesehistorychannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I guess. Qianlong didn’t like consort Yu, but loved Yongqi very much. If he promoted consort Yu, other people might think this is a signal of choosing Yongqi as the crown prince. Then Yongqi might become the target of other princes. Qing emperors secretly choosing crown prince was just to avoid the crown prince becoming the target.

    • @myrtlesnow2397
      @myrtlesnow2397 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Being a Consort was already a very high status. The only title higher was Noble Consort (Imperial Noble Consort was only really used when the Empress seat was vacant or the Empress could not do her job, relegating her duties to the Imperial Noble Consort), and she had no family political power outside of the harem and had no further children. Also, after the Step Empress was essentially banished, there were very little promotions to the higher ranks in the harem, only a few were promoted, and the promotions were given by Consort Ling (she promoted Consort Qing who helped raise her son).
