@@swordchild0013 they didn't have to kill children or try to kill each other. Even Hailan went too far sometimes. Most of the women were awful and made their own beds. We can pity them, but in the end, they did evil deeds and paid the price. Jia was obsessed with her first love and obsessed with gaining power for him. Her obsession cost her everything in the end, including him.
@@crayolaclouds2696 They did not have to do a lot of things - but the drama is based on history and not in modern sensibilities. The majority if not all the women who lived in Forbidden city had miserable lives. Only a few could rise to the top to gain favour with the emperor - the majority were sold to the Emperor in some fashion and not there by choice. If they did not strive to rise to the top - or a good position their families would suffer or they would suffer (because only the most favoured concubines had food and better provisions) - if they did bot gain favour with the emperor they would be forced to remain not only chaste for the rest of their lives but without the possibility of even having their own children (even if they did - they did not always get to raise those children) - so yes many of those women had to be calculating to survive
@@swordchild0013 the drama is not based in history. There are a few things they borrow from history, but all the drama and scheming is pure fiction.

But her clan helped the emperor in war , so he couldn't kill her or punish her clan for any misdeeds. Hence , she was demoted and confined .
