Well done Rod yet more memories for me. I used to sail out of Southampton container terminal on P&OCL I used to watch the dockers live baiting for big Bass averaging over 7lb. I have fished Marchwood dock and caught some nice Sole and big Bass. I’m in Bahrain in quarantine waiting to join my ship next week. Keep the videos coming they’re keeping me from going insane in my room tight lines buddy 🦈🦈🎣🎣
Many thanks for sharing this Neil - looking to catch my first sole from the shore at Southamoton Water - Town Quay may be my best bet. Hope all goes well at Bahrain.
Thanks again Tony. Once I've used a larger range of rigs in my videos and extend the tutorial sections to cover making them all, I'll produce a general one on rig functions and choice - but that's some way off yet!
Nice video Rob and one which has evoked so many happy memories for me! I am 61 now and still fish, living in East Sussex, but I was born in Hythe, Hampshire and had many a good day catching fat flounders and bass in from various marks on the western shore of the water. I used to drive down to Magazine Lane at Marchwood, park by the yacht club and then walk north along the shoreline along the edge of the old barracks (magazine buildings) until it ended and there was a nice little grassy area at the end of it with a large oak tree on the foreshore. Casting out from there using king ragworm we used to get some good bass, I had a few sole at night and the odd dogfish too. For flounders, most of which were well over the pound mark back then, some occasionally nudging 2 pounds, we used to use a large chrome flounder spoon baited with ragworm and spin them slowly along the edge of those wired banks (there used to be a small inlet there as well, between the spot with the oak tree and where you were fishing at Bury Marsh). By spinning them slowly so that they just about rotated and fluttered enticingly, you could watch the flounders following them in and they'd often take the bait just as it came into shore! We also had plenty of bass taking those large baited flounder spoons too! Oh what memories and such happy days! Thankyou so much Rob for bringing them all back to me! I have family that still lives in Southampton and provided Covid restrictions allow I am intending to revisit that area and see if I can't get my own flounder or two - though I suspect there won't be many 1-2lb fish there now! Kev
Very interesting and thanks for sharing Kevin. I've had two recent sessions (Oct. 2020) at Magazine Lane and will be posting soon; and expect to go back for more, since I could only fish for a couple of hours and lost a couple of big fish! Although I caught plenty of small stuff, I've got a few things to try out there as well. Thanks for watching - I enjoyed hearing about your recollections Kevin.
Many thanks for the video. As I said on last video it’s my home town but never fish here. Will definitely give that venue a go when allowed back out to play. Keep safe
Hi Florin and thanks for watching. Yes, its quite a walk through the woods to get to the point. There is a bit of parking off the main road, just before the sewage works, by an entrance to two fields.
Much appreciate your comment Mark. It is what it is - no point in pretending otherwise. I say what happened (if I remember correctly!) and maybe what could have been, if I fished better / differently. I'm sticking with the 'documentary' style for the time being - others are much better at vlogging! Thanks for watching.
Yes and whiting and schoolies + if you're 'lucky' maybe a dogfish, or should I say, lesser spotted cat shark to make it sound more appealing! Thanks for watching and commenting @hikinguphigh.
Grauvell Teknos Due 4500. Yes they are twin tipped. Bought many years ago, but still my favourite rods. They came with the stiffer hollow tip and you had to buy the spliced tip section (only £40) separately - bought three and broke one!
mate i know this is going to sound a bit mental but do you ever fish earth worms for flounder in the tide? ive watched a few videos from scandanavia and it seems to be one of the number 1 baits, i used to hammer small flounders with worms in my little tidel river when i was young but never took them out into full saltwater
Interesting comment @whitetroutchannel. No, not personally, but I dare say they work in some estuaries. After all coarse anglers occasionally catch flounders in tidal river stretches and they are known (as well as dabs) to be caught in the Gloucester Canal and Maldon Canal (Chelmer / Blackwater Navigation). Some get caught on maggot, chopped-worm and bloodworm in matches.
Its a Ridgemonkey Cozee Bucket Seat, I got it off eBay (can't remember firm) for less than £30 all together. It is part of the XL modular system - its 44cm from floor to top of cushion - just measured it for you! When my knees are playing up, I much prefer this to the Chub chair I tend to use. I do have a seat box, but that needs replacing, as the strap broke and is fibreglass rather than plastic. Thanks for watching and your interest Keith.
Never fished bury marsh but fished magazine lane plenty of time over the years living the other side of the water it’s not a go to mark unless like you said the winds coming sw
RodsAngleUK being from the east side we don’t have it bad for marks and the solent is only a stones throw away just hopefully we can get on the hounds and sting rays in June
This is an interesting mark: park behind you and cranes like dinosaurs in front...instructive and enjoyable as ever. 🎣🎣🎣
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching Stephen.
Watching you is far better than watching the television. Great angler.
Many thanks for that John.

Great work again Rod. I haven't watched all your videos yet but do any explain the functions of all the various rigs.

Very watchable and atmospheric. You have a lot of patience.
Thanks for that Anthony.
Another really enjoyable watch , looking forward to the lockdown being lifted and fishing the suffolk/essex coast 👍👍🎣🎣
Cheers Julian - likewise.

Apologies Rod .... I appear to have referred to you as Rob in my above comment!

Actually its Mick. A couple of non fishing mates used to call Rods; hence the channel name!
Many thanks for the video. As I said on last video it’s my home town but never fish here. Will definitely give that venue a go when allowed back out to play.
Keep safe
Cheers Martin - I too have several Southampton Water marks I want to fish as soon as possible and can't wait to target smooth hounds there.
Relaxing to watch and informative, thumbs up!

Thanks for watching and commenting Aidy - there's more to come.
Good film presentation , with the Voice over . enjoyed the warts and all content , great that you give the location and your logic to catching fish

Good video again... Question where did you get you cool box / seat?
Thanks Dave. The green seat bucket was purchased off Ebay - its a Ridgemonkey XL Bucket Seat System.
Used to fish magazine lane alot. Plenty of pout oh and plenty of snags 😂

What rods are those. And are they twin tipped as looked like their was still a tip in rod bags when you moved them

Thanks for that. Give it a go, but don't get lost in that wood!
I would like to ask what the height of your buck sit from base to sit and what price are they and did you buy it please. thank you for these videos.

Agree - but seems a popular mark. Both times I fished Bury Marsh, I could see anglers at Magazine Lane.
RodsAngleUK being from the east side we don’t have it bad for marks and the solent is only a stones throw away just hopefully we can get on the hounds and sting rays in June
Do you get to that spot from magazine Lane
I think you can Ray - but its a long walk round to the point. I park off Bury Lane and walk through the woods to the side of the sewage works.
Thanks I will give it a look
Is there someone filming you.
No - I do all of that myself. Thanks for watching.
@@rodsangleuk6283 how did you do that
Not too far from goatee Beach
Yes, that's the other side of the marsh at Eling. I haven't fished there yet - any good? Thanks for watching and commenting Lee.
