@@JRBeckford Well the VW brand itself (not the conglomerate with all the other brands) is in deep trouble.
The Chinese aren't buying them anymore and the US market has always been weak for them, because their design, history and non-understanding of American taste stands in their way.
Apparently even the once strong Mexico and South American markets have turned away from them.
Only some die hard VW Germans (lots of them union members working for them) seem to still buy them.
I for one can't wait to see the whole VW empire (& the rest of the arrogant deceiving German auto industry) to collapse.
Look up their history and look up Anton Piëch (*1894).
The downfall of the German car industry will accelerate the political desintegration of the country & the European Union itself.
Down with VW , BMW , Mercedes , etc. !

The new Tiguan looks like a 10 years old Renault Kadjar, or Nissan Qashqai. As these 2 brands graded up their designs with stronger, more defined lines; VW is throwing away what once defined the brand. A Golf 4, Golf 6 or 7 looked like a high quality car; defined lines; well built. This also counts for the Tiguan Gen.2. ID4/5, as well ass the new Tiguan don't look ugly, but - logo taken away - could well be an MG, an older Renault, or any Chinese brand. They don't look like a high quality car; which VWs still are in the point of view of chassis, steering, rigidity, comfort a.s.o. Bit they don't transpose it in terms of design or materials; although VW has recently done some efforts in the interior materials.
A good design has to be recognisable; as standing for the mentionned cars, but has also to give a high quality feel from the optical point of view. The mainly useless black plastic parts and grills are horrible. Some good examples for a strong car design are the absolutely timeless Honda S2000, Audi TT Gen. 1+2, Mazda CX-60, the last Mercedes C-Class, VW Arteon, BMW E46 Coupé a.s.o.

The normal version without the “R” sport package looks much better. In my opinion, the non sporty trims usually look better (basically in any car) because they are more elegant, with simpler lines and don’t have stupid and unnecessary design elements to look more aggressive.
Actually, I think car brands nailed the sporty trims in the 2000’s and early 2010’s, because, even though the cars obviously looked a bit more sporty, they were still quite discrete and elegant.

    • @MarkTrades__
      @MarkTrades__ 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

thats a good point. They didn't scream trim levels at people as status symbols back them and the cars in general were designed in less of a "try hard" manner. My exception is there was a period there in the 2000's where alot of new car designs were abysmally dull and non-cohesive. Especially out of the american brands - things like chevy malibu, everything out of dodge at the time, etc.

This on the other hand is pretty disappointing from an exterior styling point of view.. looks like a sacrificial lamb to bridge the gap between current model and ID.. • @Borussia1985

I totally agree as a Golf 8 GTI Clubsport and previous Golf 7 FL GTI owner. Volkswagen is on it's way down and didn't find the exit until now. The new Tiguan is just the next downgrade.
I got used to the generic look, less refined interior & exterior and the cheaper materials. More bling-bling with bigger screens and LED lights, matching our society needs.
My next car won't be a Volkswagen anymore. They lost their identity and are just purely another mass market car brand. Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, etc. Made a step up, Chinese brands three or four steps and VW one, two, probably three down. They met in the middle. There is an analogy to this with the homeland of VW, the economy, society and their football team... but let's stop until it's getting too political here 😅

The current one looks like a VW. It’s much better and cleaner and instantly recognizable. I don’t know why they would change the design language so much, what they have works, it just needs refined! Feels like one exec has a “vision” for the corporate face of VW and is forcing change that isn’t needed. Cars already look so similar these days, making this look less “VW” was a bad call, I think. It’s more forgettable. Don’t even get me started on that interior… seems every new car interior is cheap and lazy

According to Volkswagen we will not get this version at all. This is the European/Australia version. We will get China's version called the VW Tayron and the Tayron X. It will be rebadge as the Tiguan and Tiguan X for America. The Tayron is more kin to the current Tiguan with hints of the Atlas exterior. Like the current Tiguan the Tayron will have optional third row seating. The 2024 Tayron doesn't have the updated virtual cockpit nor does it have the new terrain knob selector. The gear selector will remain in the current position as the current Tiguan. The interior is nice more upscaled then the current Tiguan but we'll see how people respond to it. I think the reason we never got the Tiguan R is because of the cost, it would have retail for around $62,000.00 which is the same reason we don't get the VW Touareg, it can cost $80,000 to over $100, 000 well equip. VW of America fear of the VW Phaeton disaster makes them make decision to not bring over any VW over a certain price range to America. I think it's a huge mistake. If you build the look, quality, design, tech and performance they will come VW.

As an Architect I couldn’t agree more with your critique of the 2025 Tiguan. I hate the soft look of the ID4. I would like buy to 2025 Tiguan Hybrid as our second car. However the overall exterior aesthetic coupled with the gigantic screen is probably a non starter. VW design has taken a turn for the worse.

They ruined the Tiguan. Even though the ID4 is softer in design, it's much nicer than this. And they fixed a lot of what was wrong with the first 3 yrs of the ID4. Got rid of that awful gear shifter, updated the main screen and software, ventilated seats, Harmon Kardon stereo. Same main screen but not that big. 12.9".

11:25 - completely getting rid of the quad exhaust, replacing it with the giant chrome strip across the entire rear bumper with NO exhaust outlets, AND THEN designing the exhaust placement so the muffler hangs below the bumper and is visible anyways has to be the sloppiest part of this vehicle to me. I used to like VW's growing up but its like they are trying to move away from their more classical designs and are struggling to find a groove with it. A bit like BMW right now too you might say.

Two things: 1:The All Space version is discontinued, so I'm wondering will the Tiguan still come to the US? There was talk that a car from a different market would just be the new Tiguan in the USA because it doesn't make sense to design a car just for the USA if the Allspace is gone.
2nd: The lights in those photos are looking a bit overwhelming, and not calm like you said. However, I think just going in and changing the color and lowering the intensity you'll be enjoying it much more.

Exactly my thoughts on this exterior new Tiguan design, it is disappointing. Seeing a big European car company talking a turn and start designing cars for Asia instead of Europe it is disappointing and worrying at the same time. The interior also is awkward to say the least, bad taste, no aesthetics, just screens one next to the other, big slabs of black glossy plastic...reminds me of hyundai interior, for the dashboard at least, couldnt believe it when i first saw it...crazy colors in the interior...looks like a nightmare. Current owner of a Tiguan 2022.

  • @rudolfbruder

The US Tiguan is in fact not simply a longer wheel base EU Tiguan. It will have at least another front. I don’t know where you got your information. However, the interior and basic HMI will be same/similar.

The problem for me with almost all of these new gen cars, from all manufacturers is the amount of unnecessary tech. Unlike the traditional vehicles. I can only imagine the warranty needed to keep up with repairs, god forbid you have any. but anything related to digital infotainment issues will be nightmare to maintain if you happen to buy one and get the short end of the stick. nobody needs these ginormous screens in your face. the flashing lights all of the interior, the digital display, etc.. all unnecessary IMO.

The car reviewers are in love with large screens.
Also, VW is trying to stay relevant in China. The Chinese market likes screens with wheels attached.
It has something to do with their traffic flow in their large cities where the traffic doesn’t flow. At least that’s my understanding.
But agree. I hate huge screens in my car.

Here's my take: I like the proportions of the short-wheelbased new one more than the previous AllSpace. I always thought there was too much overhang to the rear of the previous one.
The new one has a sort of X3 stance from the sideview.
I prefer the front fascia of the older model though. Agree with everything you said about the bumper. I think the new one looks as ugly in the front as a Toyota Raize if you squint. I hate that car.

Car screen sizes are reaching the same limitations as cell phones. Can you make them bigger yes, but they will be practical, no. If it is not vertical, a 10-12in is the sweet spot. I would have preferred a KIA style integration.

I actually like it because I feel like their going back to the skinny top grill that be did for the mk6 golf and other cars of that time period. But then big grills were the trend so they made their grill taller and then it just looked like everything else. Now their going back and it really stands out in terms of design language, the new golf is another great axmple. The old one the front bumper looks like it’s falling off, the new one his a nice straight bumper that looks solid.
