      Flipping hell, worrying that you think like me😅I was going to use that just to annoy VW. I still will😄 Interesting that VW UK have only now, 9 years after the bad PR of Dieselgate realised that the brand’s cult following is something worth exploiting because it’s one thing the Korean’s can’t head hunt. Shame they sent a message to main dealers telling not to lend people with cameras demo cars using my video as an example and then lied to me, one of the brands biggest fans, about it🤷

      It does seem that those who own the car already see it in a better light than those that don't, happens a lot and you could say it's not exactly unbiased opinion but I am open minded. Would love to know how exactly is it "far and away superior" Scott? Genuinely interested, do let us know trim level, options and RRP. Thanks.

      @@volkswizardAs the owner of the previous 2.0 TDI 2019 R-line with top spec, I see that the new model has improved in many things. New one has a better noise isolation, better audio system(the harman kardon one has 2 more speakers in comparison to old dynaudio), more comfortable seats with massage and ventilation(old one only had heating and so called massage using lumbar support), bigger boot, better infotainment system and perfect wireless charging spot for 2 phones of any size with cooling, head up display that is projected to the wind shield instead of a separate glass piece, better driving assistants, better Matrix LED head lights(this is something you would typically see on top spec Audi). Improved interior quality - previous one had much more hard plastic everywhere. Improved adaptive suspension. Also the new plug-in hybrid version blows the competition out of the water range on electric power wise. The gear selector and wind shield wiper placement is actually alright and you get used to it fast. The only thing that I dislike is the absence of physical buttons for climate controls, but at least they improved the user interface and it's responsiveness to make it easier to use and left some touch buttons with backlight. I have ordered the 2024 1.5eTSI R-Line myself and I was choosing between the latest BMW X1 or previous gen 2023 Tiguan.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      OK, fair points. Only issue is a lot of that is optional (HUD, adaptive suspension, matrix LED, upgraded seats) or doesn't apply to test car (plug in hybrid, R Line spec). And yet every model loses the separate climate control interface, puts the air vents in a far less efficient position and has exterior styling that, while subjective, is almost unanimously seen as a backward step) and costs significantly more than the old one. I wouldn't say that was far and away superior unless you spec it taking advantage of all the improved options (which from past experience not that many people actually indulge in with a Tiguan) and then we have the not so small matter of the price.

      @@volkswizard - my biggest beef with VW is that the Plug In Hybrid in basic form costs £42k. Even the Kia Sportage equivalent is £40,550. Why? UK Road Tax is huge for cars over £40k. You have to pay an extyra £410 supplement on TOP of the standard £180 - and you have to pay this for FIVE years. So that's a road tax premium of £2,050 for a £40k car. Why don't UK manufacturers offer plug-in hybrid versions at £39,999K and then let cusotmers add features if they want to pay more road tax? It's also madness that plug-in hybrids are only avaialble on expensive mid or large models from the manufactuers. They don't offer their smaller SUVs with a plug-in option. For example, there is no Plug-in hybrid VW T-ROC. Kia don't offer a smaller Plug-in hybrid SUV either. Nor Hyundai. Why??

    I have just bought a new diesel VW Tiguan Elegance and am waiting for it to be delivered. The reason I went for the Elegance rather than the R-Line, was that the R-Line was really all gimmicks with no substance. There was absolutely no performance difference between the two and I preferred the Elegance look and more comfortable seats. Also, I bought the smaller infotainment screen as I felt the big one was like having a giant TV in front of your face. Prior to final purchase, I watched every review I could find on TH-cam and the one thing that I have learnt more than any other is just how important it is you try the car yourself rather than listen to reviews. There are such a variety of opinions out there and this one is very negative. Frankly, I do not recognise it as the car I am buying and it bears little resemblance to my own test drive. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but that is what they all are - just opinions. Everyone has their 'thing', which if fine, but it really does not help as you just have to try it yourself. From where I sit this is a fantastic car and, with the notable exception of this review, is widely recognised as being significantly better than its predecessor. If I had one complaint it would be that you can only get the diesel with 150PS rather than the nearly 200PS that used to available. Nonetheless, it still had plenty of poke. Just try it yourself before you make any judgements.

    I sat in one of these today and was impressed with the quality of the cabin inside - however the price of this car is insane, many items that other manufactures include as standard are options on the car which pushes up the price considerably (I was looking at the R-Line. Also (haven’t driven it) but I’m not convinced that 150bhp is enough for a car this size….stick 4 people in there with that power, and I’d think it would feel a little sluggish - even my current hatchback has 182bhp. I’ll reserve final judgement until I drive one.

    I've yet to actually see or sit in one but I'm afraid I'm not impressed. The front end just doesn't look right but worst of all is the dashboard - gear selector on the right with wipers and indicators on the left - no thank you. Yes, in the 1970s you had wipers on the left with the indicators on the right which took a lot of getting used to when they reversed the positions so that will cause confusion but the slab or tablet style screen in the middle of the dashboard just looks awful.

      The funny thing is on the ID3 which where that shifter originated, they kept the 2 left and right stalks. It's a brave move to mess with this and you have got to wonder how much they saved doing so. I think Golf 8.5 has swerved this thankfully.

    The boot size is not really 652l but 490l. Worth to mention that. The bigger value is only if you calculate the space for the spare tyre but it is useless. For Skoda Superb they say it is 660l. Have you ever seen a Superb's boot? It is a lot bigger than the Tiguan's. Boot floor of Tiguan is only 86cm x 100cm with a height of 45cm.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      2 reasons - firstly it was hard to improve on some of their designs, Golf 7.5, Mk2 Tiguan for example so to change in order to keep things fresh, they had to be worse. Also ID range saw a new design language for VW, I thought this might not infiltrate the main range but almost as if they want ID range to look more normal they are now making the mainstream cars look like the ID range. That's a brave move and going by the comments about new Passat and now the Tiguan, not a good one.

    Great video Andrew! The exterior design of the Elegance version definitely evokes second-generation Touareg vibes to me. Totally agree with other commentators: The R-line version of the new Tiguan is definitely the version to choose from, and this SUV needs 4motion. I am a long-term Passat owner, and before that, Golf and Polo, so I would not personally choose the Tiguan, although my wife wants the R-line version. I will either go nuts and choose a completely different car brand or head for the Der Neue Passat R-line or perhaps even the ID.7 in wagon form.

    Thanks for the review Andrew, for me the pinnacle of the exterior design was the mk 2.5 Tiguan before VW ruined it with the iD efficiency styling. Scary that I could have got an A4 Black Edition Avant on a lease for cheaper than my 23 PHEV in R-Line spec, but Mrs wanted the high driving position and the ease of getting in and out for the kids. Hopefully when my lease is up in 2027 they will still make the A4 Avant and I’ll be able to go for one of those given the kids will be older.

    Really sad that out of the $$$$$$ of dollars spent on R&D, this was the best hybrid system they could come up with. It seems like VW decided to stop innovating 5 years ago. Mainline crossovers are boring AF, so the very least they can do is make it powerful in a straight line and efficient. In the US, there is no way I'd take a Tiguan over a RAV4 hybrid if I were looking for a solid, reliable, and efficient mall crawler.
    Sorry for the downer comment, this is still a great video!

      @volkswizard  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Jacob, aI care about is that you like the video, the product itself is out of my control😅I should say though that this is just a mild hybrid which TBH is best looked at as not a hybrid in the widely accepted sense. There is a proper plug in hybrid available but that comes with more weight, complexity and a higher price tag but is crucial for fleet/company car buyers in the UK as it makes the tax they pay a fraction of even a mild hybrid like the one tested which can equate to £1000s per year difference

I didn’t feel the engine and gearbox worked well together and worst of all it had some dreaded gremlins with less then 100 miles on the clock. I agree. VWs early noughties sales success was built upon selling cars at a small price premium to Fords, but with a perceived quality superiority / feel good factor. Over the last few years, VW have value engineered those benefits out and made their design language more bland. That may marginally improve their profitability per unit sold but I feel their European sales figures will significantly decline as a consequence of this.

    VW need to stop hiring these woeful designers who are destroying the brand. Sad times 😢

      It's OK inside but it's not surprisingly better than old one. I think the design issue originates from the fact that car manufacturers now try and design cars to appeal equally to Western and Asian tastes which leaves us with a mismatch or is it mish mash?! I wonder if the Chinese moan about Western tastes limiting the brashness they yearn? When it comes to destroying brands, don't forget the accountants...

    Overpriced!! I'll be buying the BYD SEAL U suv, that looks much better and it will be cheaper. Vw cars are going down hill nowadays. (And Iv had 4 vw cars in my life time) this is soooo boring to look at.ffs

      For all VW's many faults, it amazes me people will buy a car from a country that snuggles up with Putin (and that includes Volvo).

      If you complain about the price of something then you’re obviously not the target market.
