The previous generation of Tiguans (as with all VW lineup) looked much better, withe the squares-within-rectangles lights and overall design.
Give it some time man. It will grow on you
@@hugos2475 - Will see what the UK versions are like, usually the R-lines make up for the ugliness 🤣🤣🤣
It looks Chinese.
I think with their latest design on their vehicles! They lean too much into the style from the france competitors like Renault.... Can't stand it :(!!! Same with Mercedes looking like expensive Citroén's lol
@@MitchellVladimir - Renault is trash, poor quality compared to VW
The styling of the Tiguan and the Passat are such a big step backwards compared to their predecessors.

Very bad direction VW is taking.
Same with Golf, the Mk7 was the high water mark. TBF VW has done this before with the MkIV and bounced back, hopefully they find their footing again.
Volkswagen designers are forced to tone down their design so it doesn't compete with Audi yes it is root of lot of internal conflict
Previous were way better
How the design team passed this is beyond me. The prev gen was such a handsome looking car both the Passat and Tiguan!
Agreed brother. This looks more like an ID4. It used to stand out as a sporty SUV, now just looks tame.
but its more aereodynamic
It is the current state of creativity. This era is an all time low in design for more or less every product.
Agreed on previous looking better.
Well they put out the mk 8 golf that has a fish looking front end..lol
Mk7, 7.5, was so much better looking.
My opinion as someone who know these cars well for 8 years as salesman. Just try to understands, that designers cant put all new design in perks for a brand new model, because then need to have some improvements for facelift. Check any car in car industry e.g. VW and compare new model vs facelift. Golf MK7 vs MK7,5 / Tiguan vs Tiguan facelift, T-Cross vs T-Cross facelift. It is a life cycle of cars... Some car brands choose to make final version on beginning, but after 3 years then reveal almost no change (new infotaiment features, motor updates...) for facelifted models and they feel old...
Interior designer deserves a raise for placing meters of shiny & reflective plastic in the driver’s field of vision
They learned how to design interiors!
I hope they'll learn how to design exteriors as well.
My exact thought while watching the video.... provided that they upgrade the quality of the interior.
Are you talking about BMW?🤓
@@Turtleback8024most BMW exteriors aren’t all that bad lately
@@glennchinyangarara8225 You probably haven’t seen the latest 5 & 7 Series then.🤓
@@Turtleback8024 in person 5 series alot better
The front looks sad and not exciting compared to previous model. Inside is nice just the outer shell looks very much busy.
It will date faster than previous the previous gen.
Shame the radio screen is no longer a single part of the dash, so many manufactures just follow the lazy route and stick a carbuncle on the facia.
Thank you mr designer for being really creative with slapping a tablet on the dash. Must of had a real lazy day and couldn’t be bothered to integrate it within the dash board. That must of been too much trouble. Or was it to keep the costs down.
_must _*_of_*_ been_ ❌
_must _*_have_*_ been_ ✅
…besides, designers don’t have a final say on the designs, not even the head designer… the board and engineers do.
Neither. It was done as that was the designers understanding of what buyers want coupled with the reluctance to remove something all their competitors have.
@stevena9305 Designers work under instruction, they don't initiate anything. Even if they can influence the introduction of a new model, it must still go through the board, the engineers and the Accounts department. Hence automobile manufacturers storage facilities are always packed with concepts that never made it to production. Designers don't have the final say.
uhm pretty much all cars are like this now. You are talking as if VW is the only one doing this.
Bland styling….could be a Suzuki.
@colinrenfrew48 I was thinking the same, it looks like that badge engineered Suzuki Across (Toyota RAV4)
The front looks very similar to the (Chinese) BYD Atto
China is the worlds biggest car market now.
Which means this isn’t designed for us. It’s designed for THEM
It looks like car makers in general are moving away from bold lines though. E.g. Honda, Peugeot, Mercedes…
I bet that if this was a Kia you would have applauded it for being fresh and new.
Great review! Very informative. Keep up the good work mate.
It’s a shame I feel like VW is being left behind with their designs ,I feel like other car manufacturers like Peugeot and Hyundai for example are miles ahead.
Hyundai/Kia and Peugeot are killin it with a design, one of the best looking cars this days..
@@mariolosberg4257 Like the Hyundai Ionic? I don't think so.
VW CEO: “Alright boys, how can we design the blandest and uneventful suv ever?!”
Yes. And even less SUV and more… city car.
I will keep my 2018 Tiguan.
Me too😂
Still driving my 2012 Tig. 85k miles.
Will it be an extended version, the Allspace model?
The infotainment screen looks like an afterthought, integrate the dash, love my 2018 tdi all space
Passat tiguan no longer have sharp line on door size
Bad design on new vw cars
For example?
@@krane15 Passat looks like more skoda superb 2023/24
2022 passat was great and looks like a Pro business/private car
Tiguan 2023/24 is okay now when it looks like Audi Q8 Etron
The interior is very similar to my 2024 (US) VW Atlas Cross Sport. There are no knobs to turn on the infotainment system. All the US car reviewers have panned my version on account of this. But this car does improve the climate controls over mine (a top of the range SEL R Line Premium) by having lighted slider controls. I have to stop the car and turn on a light when driving in the dark in order to change the settings.
why did they go the lazy tablet in middle of dashboard route?? it was perfect before with the screen integrated on the dashboard but now what the heck did they do? I guess they took a step backwards with that move along with removing the physical buttons for controlling that screen.
Hi this new vw tiguan looks ok . Is the new vw tayron going to be available in uk as tiguan allspace is ɓeing discontinued
Praise VW for bringing back the physical button. Literally the reason I don’t want to update my car from my 2013 Passat 🙏🏻 that and it still works 🙃
Man, i really hate displays in cars.
Yea........I don't need them either......But I'm 80 and cannot really relate to what Today's Kids think are great.............Paul
When he said buttons are back I thought yeah great but then he started flicking the display, what a disappointment. For a person of a certain age all these screens are dangerous, you need to take your concentration from the road to operate these things and if you need different glasses for reading or distance then it’s a total no no. When will manufacturers listen to the slightly older driver and give us buttons that operate all the essential functions. If it’s not safe to operate a mobile phone in your car how is it safe to operate all this. In effect it’s like driving while operating your computer on your knee.
EU will soon pass legislation requiring basic car controls to be physical switches or knobs, not via touchscreen. In the pipeline now.
That front end looks like a minibus...
Almost verging on the fiat multipla😢
Huge improvement on The interior. Dont like The outside much. But that inside looks awesome!!
Huh are you blind 🦮....basic designs cheap and less features then their earlier models like early 2000 they going backwards
Very informative video! 💯
Not a review. Can't review it without driving it
Third Generation starts at 1:30 Minutes. Best family SUV by all measures with an advanced 1.5 Litre Engine Hybrid and 201 BHP that reflects very good power of its range. DSG remains unchanged 7 Speed with better Info system and 15" Screen. Problem remains with plastic indoor parts. Thanks for the review.
Not sure about the styling. I was considering a current gen Tiguan, not sure I would go for this new gen. And the price?!!!
You need to see this new tiguan SELR line in red, it’s just amazing. I think this is a basic version and may not look as stunning as the other one
Previous gen is looking more bold and stunning
100% agree
Not the Tiguan most people got. Only the Tiguan R looked truly good. Rest were just anonymous cubes on wheels.
If i was queuing up at a CCS rapid charger and it was being used by plug-in hybrids, I’d be really miffed….
On the contrary, the build quality is massive better than the previous versions. Not to mention the selection of colors and materials which have vastly improved over its previous military vehicle "sea of gray" interiors. Its now a much more warm and inviting place to relax and spend time. Not just a device for transportation.
Just wish the cubbies all had covers. To much of an open trash basket otherwise. Not to mention people can see all your stuff. At least you can hide your phones.
This reviewer tbh seems overly harsh on VW in general. Just watch all his VW reviews lately. He is just claiming things that I cannot understand once I actually sit in the cars myself. New ID3 facelift just to name one thing. Calling the infotainment hardly an improvement shows to me that he does not care for VW at all.
Basic design with some update equipment to catch with other manufacturers
I hope they bring back the diesel model to the US again . Good review. I hope it has spare tire . 😊
Would have been really difficult to show it in Munich 2 weeks ago... That wrap was ridiculous 😅
Wonderful lot of work done congratulations congratulations Minah Simone.
Thanks again for sharing
Great Review however I shall stay with my Tiguan R how pwople can consider having a computer attached to the dash as attractive is beyond me .
About the steering wheel..in the previous model there where physical buttons on the regular Tiguan and only the R-Line model has the touch sensitive buttons..
If I understand correctly, the wheel in the center of the console is used ONLY to control the volume, change the theme (ambient light colors) and manage the driving modes. For such a command (with a high frequency of use), I find that the choice of these functions is not very appropriate. The volume is already present on the steering wheel controls. I don't think users will change interior themes that frequently. the same goes for the driving modes. I would have found it more logical to use the wheel to control the infotainment (like BMW) or other more useful functions
I prefer the gear knob of my 2022 Tiguan than the rotary dial on the new one.
What colors will there be in the R line
A step in the righ direction Volkswagen, on your new Tiguan returning buttons to the steering wheel. However there is a way to go..retirning Buttons/knobs to to the climate control and taking away the touchy slidy controls and stop with the touchy slidy controls. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that keeping climate controls out of the infotainment menus (yes, Volvo I mean you for example) and I bet I'm not the only one in the world of cars who feels that touchy slidy controls are more difficult to operate.
Well, I have a Golf 8 GTi coming to end of contract soon and was hoping to pick-up a Tiguan next but really don’t like the look of this new model. I know the Golf 8 isn’t a loved design but at least the GTi remains aggressive looking. This Tiguan seems to have lost the imposing look of the previous model sadly
Interior looks hideous!
And a planned obsolescence nightmare.
Why have the Germans been leading planned obsolescence in cars since the early 2000’s? Benz being the best example.
Yeah, the depressing monotone gray interior was better.
Good work. Thank you
i love the TV screen inside
that car will not be in the US market until the end of 24?
That red definitely looks badass
Looking at the exterior, I couldn't help but thinking of the previous model of the Mitsubishi Outlander. I'm OK with the rear, but they are still struggling with designing a face with some unique design elements that would make the car stand out. A bit generic.
Very beautiful SUV. Thanks for the review.
Finally VW responds with intelligence and is slowly but surely starts giving to customers what they want not what VW intends. That’s what they should have done from the beginning like giving a simple VW golf electric not an ugly ID3 with horrible quality stupid dash board and stupid tactile buttons. And if it does it right it will shine again
I have a dark brown car. It has 5 seats. It's an old one, I bought it this year.
ID-4 meets T-Cross. Hate the back lights (in non black cars). I’m glad I own the 2018 version. Should keep the value since it’s better looking. Looks like I won’t be getting a VW next. Quality is going down but design even faster! 🤯
Unremarkable. The MK2 was a little prettier
Its about time cars were under the 40k mark for most specs cheaper yearly tax for most folk in uk.
Why does nobody tell you how much it costs to do a quick charge and an over night charge I’ve asked this question on many platforms but nobody answers ????
In short… buy the Skoda Kodiaq as it will be better
is this model will be released in USA. because the dealers here acting like they never heard about any changes
Absolutely love my 2019 Tiguan. This looks even better, well from inside that is. Kinda underpowered tho..
Friend of mine is waiting for more than 2 years tho have the previous model delivered. Still did not arrive but they launch a new model….or how to scare off customers….
Hope it doesn’t sound like the 22 plate that passed me the other day, sounded like a bag of bolts in a metal cage being thrown round the inside of the engine
Backlit temperature controls are a new thing here? 😮
Explain
너무 이쁘다~~한국에 빨리 나와라 Thank you for the detailed explanation
USB C behind mirror for Dashcam is inside ??
That console knob will be gunked up with coffee just like the drive mode knob is on the current model.
Well now everyone are seing what most of Ljubljana saw when the were recording a comercial for it in Ljubljana 😉
Is a new Seat Ateca on the way then?
The review neglects to speak of a big change, being the removal of the central gear stick/shift, now repositioned to the steering wheel.
I ordered R-line, 200 hp, 4M.
Please introduce this car to Canada! I want to buy. The current 2024 here is old version.
I'll take the Passat Estate instead thanks.
Passat £5k more expensive, 25cm longer and less room for passengers.
@@WillBeckerwhy have an suv which you can’t and won’t take offroad
@WillBecker less room for passengers?? Have you seen the new 2024 passat ?? How much rear leg room do you actually need?? It has tonnes. The passat also looks a hell of alot better then the Tiguan Motability special and will be much better to drive and more economical. Plus they seem to have spent more time on the passat as it has a much nicer interior
Is there an AWD model?
That boxy Design is good comparing this
when would that come to Canada
Is there ADAS feature
You totally skipped over the most controversial change, the gearchange on what used to be the wiper stalk and the wipers now on the lights stalk! I fear the wiper gearchange switching round is going to cause confusion. The right stalk has been wipers for ever (well 3 to 4 decades) why change it now? Couldn't the gear have had a switch on the wiper, or a separate stalk
If you think that simple change is confusing you must really be befuddled by Teslas.
It has the same design language as the ID models, which is actually awful.
When VW updates their models with squared and straight lines, YT commentators complain.
When they update it with more fluid lines, YT commentators also complain. 😂
The rear they stole from the Suzuki s Cross!! Also the better car!😊
Centre console screen is too small.
Pricing is eye watering, but let’s see how all this plays out
am going to have it in 4 days 😊 the black one
Every time a new car in a range or brand gets designed, literally every comment is “hate it”, “bland”, “Old one looks better”… the best new diss is “looks like a Chinese knock-off” 😂
The rear looks like a Suzuki S-Cross, and the front look a bit like the Suzuki Across…
Wow, I think I see some Tiguan in that Audi Q3.
Just ordered one
Looks more like a Honda CRV every day. This is a very competitive segment.
Where's the gear selector, obviously not where it should be?
Thorough and informative review as always. Unfortunately, Tiguan looks bland and boring with no real improvement over the old model. We just had a Kia Sportage rental in the Netherlands. Hybrid powertrain was so impressive, smooth and efficient. Also a very high quality interior. Also much less expensive than VW.
It's not a review. It wasn't driven. It's just a first look
@@robsmall6466Thanks for informing us, several times, of the semantics of motoring journalism.
You think the Sportage you've driven is better than a car that hasn't been released nor actually reviewed anywhere yet? Nice coping. VW as a brand competes with much better cars than Kia, such as giant carmakers like Toyota. Tiguan>Sportage in every generation-starting with the hideous Kia Sportage in 2008 that had a 2-star safety rating and stopping with their most recent models (around 600k cars) that burst into unextinguishable flames and killed passengers.
@@eamoneejit7482 Can't understand how people don't know the difference between a review and a first look at a product. It really isn't hard
@@robsmall6466 Perhaps their definition of what constitutes a review is different to yours?
Volkswagen makes the best cars for mass market, but they don't look too good. I still love my white Mazda 3 hatchback (second generation), when I look at her I still think she's beautiful.
beaucoup de touches sensitives sur l'écran et dire que les journalistes critiquaient la peugeot 308 deuxième génération. De plus elle sent la copie dans son design extérieur.
It would help if you would say if this is the EU or US version.
What Car? is a UK magazine, the presenter is English, the cars shown all have UK or German licence plates. If that’s not enough for you, he’s talking about the UK market.
@@eamoneejit7482 I would like to have that stated explicitly rather than deducted.
Looks like a Toureg and ID4 mix, shame the interior quality isn't up to the old VW standard, I say old as it seems a few years now since their interiors were worth the money. Looks like they have decided to stick with they silly temp sliders?
Actually I do prefer the sliders now. And honestly by the Videos available I cannot see much of a downgrade in interior quality. I don’t know what the reviewers means exactly and he doesn’t tell us.
@rudolfbruder that's really interesting , I suppose we sometimes take the reviewers word on things, are the sliders simple to use on the go?
The buttons only went on the R-line
The positives to a "bland exterior" is that it ages very well - the fashionable styles come and go, but if the vehicle has none of that, it still looks ok on an ongoing basis 😂 I think the ICE cars are near perfect, time to move on full electrification please, VW!
horrendous looking. bland. wrong proportions somehow - even if the previous gen looked better in this regard.
Watching from Ireland
Good review. The car is a bland blob on the outside. Interior is a nice improvement.
Not a good review because it isn't one. The car wasn't driven
The 268hp e-hybrid doesn't come as 4WD???????
jako lijepi autić! :) I tata bi sine!
Because of badge snobbery a VW will always sell well: but other brands are now better quality and often cheaper - not least Skoda/Seat!
Agreed.
Seat is literally a dead brand though. Cupra is nicer anyway. And also it is not always badge snobbery. Some people simply like the VW way. Accept that.
@@CyAn-S . Seat/Cupra are the same brand . If you want to pay more for the VW that’s up to you. I’m basing my comments on numerous reviews where Seat/Cupar/Skoda persistently come out ahead of VW.
You do realize they're under the same umbrella.
@@krane15 YES! That’s the point I’m making: they are all basically the same car but whereas Skoda often gets better reviews people will choose the VW version because of badge snobbery.
