  • In this Quick Fix video I replace the spark plugs and plug wires on an 05 Buick Lacrosse ( GM 3800 series engine ) that were causing an intermittent misfire when it was wet outside. I show some tricks to make the job easier as well as some tips to get the job done right! This info also applies to other GM products that use this engine - Chevy, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and other Buicks. Thanks for watching!!

    I have a 1995 Olds 88 LS … inherited it from my great mother recently after she passed… nobody wanted the car! 64,098 original miles, she bought the car new and had every service done… though as you can tell by the mileage, it sat a good bit of its life and needs quite a bit I fear, runs and drives perfect, tires are bad due to age etc. AC controls are busted, stuck on frost and I’ve had a mechanic “fix” the AC 3 different times! lol anyways, absolutely solid cars, the whole reason I jumped on it lol. Still smells brand new, never smoked in 👍🏼

      They really are solid cars! The first thing i like to do (really with any vehicle I get) is give them a really in depth inspection, and make notes on all the things that are worn, aged, or questionable, especially if it's been sitting for a while. That way as you start driving it again, nothing will sneak up on you, like blowing out an old hose, or plugged fuel filter, and you can address them as you go. I don't remember on those if the a/c had vacuum controls, or if they were actuators at that point, but it sounds like there is an issue there if it's blowing from the defrost. Good luck with fixing it up, and glad your giving the old ride another chance! Most people send these 90's cars to the junkyard since they never held their value.

      @@EvanWells07 it’s the newest vehicle I’ve ever owned! (Mileage wise) LOL

      @HashMaster1776 I totally get that! I always seek out the deals or fixer uppers, so most everything I own has 150k plus. For me to have something under even 100k miles is a "new" car to me!

    Damn, original stuff after that many miles yet they threw money into everything else. SMH. Hilarious how some think. At least you got other new parts on it when you picked it up. Thanks for sharing!

      Being a mechanic I see this every day and it blows my mind. People think that regular maintenance is just a scam that shops are trying to pull on them or something. Thanks for watching!!

    Always nice when other mechanics set you up for a good deal without knowing it!😎 If she gets another 100k out of it even better!

      Yeah I wasn't complaining that's for sure! I feel bad that the owners got screwed over, but I paid them what they were asking for the car, so it all worked out I guess.

      @EvanWells07 they could always discuss it with the previous shops...😎

      I would hope they did. I didn't really get to talk to them. I just got about 20 minutes to look it over and decide if I wanted it. I gambled and it paid off.

    whats sad is...sometimes we're too busy fixing things that are broke to do routine maintenance. try to add some in there if the customer's pockets allow...but...guess thats how it is

    • @EvanWells07

      I agree. I'm a big maintenance / fluids guy. Unfortunately I think most people see that stuff (especially fluids) as a scam because a lot of shops over recommended them to make a few extra bucks.

    • @jacobsoffroad
      @jacobsoffroad 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Precisely. If it’s a fluid, it breaks down. Simple.

    I wonder what the dexcool looks like. Surely the LIM gaskets had been replaced with that mileage.

    • @EvanWells07
      @EvanWells07  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It looked like they had, and the previous owner had recently replace all the cooling system components. I had also flushed the system right after I got it.

      @@EvanWells07 I just did my upper and lower intake and valve cover gaskets this week. Doing the final flush today. Check the coolant elbows from the heater. They are plastic from factory and fail quite easily. There are upgraded aluminum replacements.

    • @EvanWells07
      @EvanWells07  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it already has the aluminum ones.

    you dont want to check your spark plug gap if they are pre-gapped with the pointed tip on a plug cause you can bend that needle tip on the spark plug real quick... on the regular flat tip plugs ONLY!!!!!!

    • @EvanWells07
      @EvanWells07  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree that they can be damaged easily, but I have also had a LOT out of the box that are gapped incorrectly. I like to double check them to be safe.
