  • Replacing the spark plugs on a 2000 Buick Regal. Also changed the O2 sensor. This video concentrates on the hard-to-reach back 3 spark plugs. Should be applicable to late '90s early 2000 3.8 L Series 2 engines. Does NOT apply to LaSabres or Park Avenues

    Just earned yourself a subscriber. Awesome video, clear/obvious camera angles and concise straightforward instructions are all that's needed. Can't stand all the videos of 3800 guides where the person is practically seizing when filming and screaming into the camera. This was an awesome video, thank you again man, much much appreciated

    Great vid! I just did this myself and it's a pain in the ass! The most difficult part for me was getting the boots/heat shields to pop off. I would highly recommend putting dielectric grease in all the boots before reinstalling! I skipped the optional steps.

    My wife’s 2002 Buick LeSabre was running rough. Auto Zone’s diagnostic tool was of little help. The car’s computer only threw a code that read “random misfire” which could be anything. I was prepared to tackle the job of replacing all the plugs and wires because at 92 K miles I don’t think they had ever been changed. Then after watching countless videos on how to replace the back three plugs I came across a video where the guy narrowed down the problem by simply unplugging each spark plug wire from each coil one at a time. Sure enough I noticed that the wires going to the top coil pack which handles cylinders 3 & 6 had no effect on the engine when I pulled them off. The engine continued to run erratically. Hmmm....could this be my problem I thought? So as not to pay retail in the event that I was wring I went to the local scrap yard and got one. Plugged it in and viola....it worked. Problem solved! I was so happy. I dodged a bullet. I didn’t have to struggle with those back three which wouldn’t have solved my problem anyway.
    It goes to show ya that a misdiagnosis can lead to serious unnecessary work and expense.

      No. It would still accelerate but anytime an engine is running rough it didn’t accelerate or really do anything as good as it did when running regular like.

    I fought with boot removal and never was able to remove any. ended up breaking off the spark plugs by hitting the metal sheave with a large screwdriver or grabbing them with a vice grips and bending them to break the plugs. Once the plugs are broken they come right out while in the boot. Of course this would only be done if you are replacing wires and plugs.

    I cannot get the wires off. I worked on the middle back one for 2 hours and could not get it. I got the right back one because it was loose in the socket so I was able to unscrew it with the boot on. When I got the plug out with the boot on it I had to tear boot into 3 pieces to get it from spark plug. The plug has rubber still attached to it. The plugs and wires are bonded together!!!!! I can't get them off!!!

    A tip to removing the "boots." Buy a "Boot removal" tool.
    It can STILL be a bit of a struggle, but is much better WITH
    one. P.us, you should "Twist" the boot side-to-side prior to
    trying to PULL it. If you're not careful, the Terminal will
    remain FIXED to the plug. Ya' have to be patient.

      Beat the hell out of the boot removal tool all the plastic ripped off, the boot was ripping apart till left with only room to grab heat shield, had 4 of the 6 glued to the plug, forget boot removal tool and get hose pliers they actually work and way quicker

    What kind of tool did you use to compress the heater hose clamps? Also what tool to grab the heater hoses and turn them? Oh and what kind of extension setup was that when you took out the plugs?

    • @GreaseMonkeyFever
      @GreaseMonkeyFever  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The heater hose pliers are the Lisle 17100. They are adjustable by screwing the ends in or out, depending on how far in the clamp needs to be compressed...plus, they ratchet closed so you can just keep the clamp depressed as long as needed. The hose removal tool is from Harbor Freight. It comes in a set of 3 different sizes. They are also good at releasing tabs on electrical connectors (single tabs), while pulling them. The extensions are a tool called Tite-Reach. They work very well for nuts and bolts where you can't get a ratchet to swing very far. They are pricey...but worth it (at least to me). Their website is www.Tite-Reach.com

    • @Ensource

      You don't need to jack the engine, just carefully let the slack off the ratchet. don't go super far with pulling it forwards. do NOT use the same socket as he did in the video. I tried this with two of them like that and I ended up stripping a good amount of the bolt. I rented "oem tools" from autozone and the sensor bolts come in a set of 3. Use the silver long socket for the o2 sensor and not the offset black ones. You won't strip it and it's 100% easier. You'll need tools like extensions to make this easy on you. Good luck if you are doing this!
