    Thanks for the video. Firstly, I'm a Klutz when it comes to mechanic stuff, so your idea of keeping the plugs on each coil, just placing the coils apart with plug wires intact, left me with 50% less possibilities of screwing up. Secondly, your calm process, allowed me to do this calmly, even though I was in a "Pick a Part' yard, on a Saturday, the coldest day of the winter (so far). I pulled the coils off the Bone Yard Park Ave, salvaged one of the coils plus the Ignition Module, and a couple of spare screws (geez when they slip out of your frozen fingers, they are gone...). paid my $30.00 for the works, went to the parking lot, changed out the Module (lost a screw into the abyss of the engine, but I had a couple of spares). Thirty minutes in total, I turned over the engine and... EUREKA, my Buick is back!
    Thanks

    Replaced all 3 coils last year for a misfire which corrected the problem. Now misfiring again under medium throttle. Light throttle and WOT fires all cylinders, but medium throttle has misfires. Coil(s) again? ICM? TPS switch? Problem more prevalent when engine fully warmed up.

  • @johnwagner4559

    The replacement of icm and coils are a must, along with plugs, wies, air and fuel filter. Kinda a full tuneup package especially if you have 90,000 miles or more! Use thermal paste instead of dielectric grease, a very thin coat should be applied to the underside of the icm. Much better conduit, dielectric grease is proven to burn icm out faster. And NEVER use a power drill when screwing into anything like this, unless u want to strip threads.

      Very good advice. My 3.8 is a 1989 Buick and that frikkin thing is jerking and misfiring, just barely at idle but super annoying at highway speeds. My mechanic installed new plugs and wires and said the coils tested good, but could the real problem be that icm? Usually, u can try to clean the maf with maf sensor cleaner 1st before replacing it since its $100-150 for a new one. Buy from amazon if u can and ALL electrical parts must be oem.! All electrical components are working except the AC fan isn't now. There are no codes showing. And there is no sparks coming from none of the coils now. I'm on my third ICM in 4.5 years. The first 2 were Duralast from AZ (lasted 39 months & 18 months). And now I'm running a BWD from AdvA, like your video. My plugs and wires are a year old, replaced with ACdelco iridium plugs and ACdelco wires.
    Why would these ICM's would be crapping out on a somewhat regular basis? Is it just poor quality chinese parts or should I be looking for something else?

      The current BWD is still working so far. I replaced the Coil packs just in case those were causing the issue. So we'll see how far it gets me. Crazy as it sounds, I looked up the mileage when both of my previous two ICM's from AZ were replaced and they both crapped out when they were near 28,000 miles.

      Larr , my ICM module went bad in 2014 and 2017 on a 2008 lacrosse 3800.
      I think it's getting water logged and shorting out. First time from a drive-thru carwash underbody flush.
      2nd time from driving in rain and water kicked up from my " snow" tires finding it's way into the engine bay at serpentine belt; splashing dirty salty water up into the ICM and firewall , hood.

    • @s7uidz
      @s7uidz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On my 2nd BWD, THE REAL SOLUTION is to use Heatsink compound on the bottom of the ICM. the Serpentine belt was kicking fluid onto the ICU and collecting on the bottom shorting it out. not sure if it was coolant from the weep hole on the water pump, or the famous coolant arms but this has fixed it for the past two years now. 256k, now onto the suspension work.

      You can remove module from car, and take module to Autozone to get it tested for free. Also, some Advance Auto parts stores test modules for free also.

    what's make the module go bad because seem like every 2 to 3 months I'm changing out modules on my 04 Buick lesabre

    • @stoneblue1795

      When you replace the MODULE, replace the coils, all of them. This system has a weak spot, when and if a coil begins to fail, it often takes out the MODULE at the same time, don't ask how I know. If you are still running any of the original coils, get rid of them. Seek out replacement coils that have the lifetime warranty, it's worth a couple extra bucks. Carry the old coils as spares, but the idea is change them before they leave you stranded!

      make sure you use dielectric grease and quality parts. we had rain and humidity for 2 weeks and mine went out.

      when changing the icm one or more of the coil would be bad u need a lab scope nd try to read if the coil electromagnetic winding are shorting ur icm again nd again

    I have a 2008 Buick Lacrosse with the 3.8 V6. I replaced the ICM and car runs great. Now I am getting both knock sensor codes P0332 and P0327. what would cause both to code at same time? failing coil??

      if u didn't have this issue before ull still need to read the computer with a scanner those codes its usually comes out when the combustion ratio inside the piston is not correct

    dielectric grease is a must. the back of the module was corroded when I took it out. this is a common problem with this car.

    • @johnwagner4559
      @johnwagner4559 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, dielectric grease will burn the module out over time. Use thermal paste, a very thin layer on the back of the module. The paste is a much better conduit for protection and keeping heat down.
