Joan's version of this Phil Ochs song, at the age she is in this video, is the best version of the song I have ever heard.
Yes, I like to hear Phil sing it too, but Joan was simply the best singer to come out of those folkie years.

Today's trash artists couldn't come close with an 80 foot pole. They just sing about drugs, booze, alcohol, their body parts and use the awful "B" word for empowerment? PLEASE! They should try to writing, playing and singing like this which is true artistry that is both heavenly and at another level compared to the garbage noise they are making.

Yeah there were the music of the seventies of the flower power and what there is today is really signs of the apocaylypse. Know it. Face it. Wake up if you're spiritually asleep and rise your consciousness. The apocalypse has two parts. The bright shining light of the universe and darkness which is the absence of love. These are the times when we have to make the choice for which part we make our decision. Those that make the wrong decision are doomed. We can only pray for those that inherit this planet from us to wake up and make the right decision. That is what Joan Baez between the lines was constantly singing about for those that listened. And today's musicians are prey for the industry almost inevitable not to get eaten alive by it. What we can do: praying.

The studio version was the first that I ever heard of this song. Also covered by Cher. So, I put that, this and a live version by Ochs in my Cher playlist. Thanks for the upload.

Show me the prison, show me the jail
Show me the prisoner whose life has gone stale
And I'll show you a young man with so many reasons why
There but for fortune go you or I
Show me the alley, show me the train
Show me the hobo who sleeps out in the rain
And I'll show you a young man with so many reasons why
There but for fortune go you or I
Show me the whiskey stains on the floor
Show me the drunkard as he stumbles out the door
And I'll show you a young man with so many reasons why
There but for fortune go you or I
Show me the country where the bombs had to fall
Show me the ruins of the buildings once so tall
And I'll show you a young land with so many reasons why
There but for fortune go you and I
    You and I

The truly great Joan Baez with a voice as clear as a bell sang this one with a troubled look and clenched teeth. Bad day?
