I have loved Joan Baez throughout my lifetime ❤ I began playing the guitar at 12 listening and learning from Joan, and here I am at 72 still playing her music and listening to her incredible voice!!! I cannot wait to see her in the theater and hear first hand as she plays her guitar through her incredible lifetime!!

Joan came to my high school when she was around 15. She inspired me by her performance to get busy. I was 16. I had a wonderful voice, but didn't play any instruments. So I took up guitar and for 51 years I have been running family singing groups teaching traditional folk songs. I am still doing that at 83. She is an inspiration. I'm glad she is using her lower register because she
is a very expressive singer/story teller. She plays exceptionally well too. I am also making peace with my lower voice. It happens to all of us,.

As a child of the 60's, everything about this woman has always fascinated me. Her music was played and sung in our home as a child. This documentary will be a gift.
Me, too. I had every record Joan ever made. She was my age. I was a huge fan! I got to shake her hand backstage at one of her 1960s concerts. I was star-stuck. Her voice was like the voice of an angel.

Wow. She's an excellent portrait painter. Really captures the essence of the subject she's painting. Multi-talented national treasure.
She was an unknown until May of 1963 at the Monterey Folk Festival. I was there, and her voice sent chills through the crowd. I had never heard such a pure, powerful singing voice. She was amazing, as were all the performers that weekend. It was an experience I'll never forget.
She was a huge star by 1963. She'd already been on the cover of Time in 1962 which was a huge honor back then. She'd already released three gold albums which had inspired Dylan, The Beatles, Led Zepplin, The Byrds, The Animals etc

Many years ago I met and spent a little time with Joan. The first time was when I was lucky enough to sit next to her on a plane. The second time was about three weeks after my wife passed away. I took my sixteen year old daughter to one of her concerts. We met Joan back stage afterwards. She gave my daughter the biggest hug and it meant more to my daughter than I can put into words. Joan is a wonderfully kind person.
Joan fought against the war in Vietnam and she also took a stand for the Vietnamese boat people and Cambodians who suffered under the Khmer Rouge. She didn’t let any ideology left or right stop her from standing for the persecuted individual

I heard Joan Baez for the first time in 1984 when my college boyfriend, Pete, played Diamonds and Rust for me. That was our song. I can still see us driving up Highway one to go camping at Big Sur, in his Volkswagen bus.He died at only 22 years old; Forty years later and I still haven't gotten over it and that is still my song.
we all have wonderful memories my first love looked like Robert Plant. I never got over him either. I'm sorry heart felt loss. We thought they'd never end.

I like Baez more now than when she was younger. I even think her voice is better. How wonderful it is to look back at your life. The proud moments, the loves, the successes, the failures. It's a full life. One to be proud of . Sometimes, only age can let you come to terms with what happened in your life. I know too.....I'm 78. 💙
Joan Baez was my inspiration to become a singer, songwriter and voice teacher. She still inspires me and I can't wait to see this! documentary! She has given so much to the world.
I'm just a few years younger than Joan and I've listened to her since I went to University in 1963 and her singing was constantly being heard across the dorm I lived in for 2 years. When President Kennedy was shot, we were in Colorado but I immediately let Joan's songs play loudly across my floor. Good Bless you Joan Baez for the endless entertainment you gave us all.
She was the very first musical hero and inspiration of my life. I borrowed her records from the local library and played them on a little turntable in my childhood bedroom. My friends and I had her songbook and it was like our bible! We learned as many of her songs as we could and played them incessantly in Junior High School performances and at slumber parties!
What a legend she is this lady. Telling the world where to go and find peace. Mostly in yourself. And what a legacy she has created.

Joan has touched my heart so deeply. She lives 20 minutes away from my place. Just that thought keeps my heart warm. I was lucky to shake her hand that she offered me after I praised her. It was a few years ago when I met her at Buck's. (restaurant in Woodside )
It encouraged me to hear Joan talk about the not being able to remember until after age 50 the abuse. I too experienced this not remembering until after 50. I've also had some people tell me that repressed memories is not real and that I am just making them up. This is a further injury to my trying to heal from the trauma.

I am so sorry that you are retraumatized by doubters. Having your trust broken an innocence stolen as a child is difficult enough . I remember what happened to me at 3 and 4, and others have questioned my ability to remember that far back. People do not want to believe such ugliness exists so they push it and us away. Peace.

We all wanted to sing like Joan Baez, and do the things she did - protesting, marching, singing with Bob Dylan - when I was just a girl - she is 11 years older than I am. I'm glad she is still alive, I am glad she has found a new octave for her voice, its beautiful - and I'm glad there is going to be a documentary on her!

My hero! One of the greatest concerts was on the grounds of the Washington Monument in 1967. We got there so early that we had front row seats, but by the time she started there were thousands and thousands of people - people hanging from the trees, people so far away that they couldn't see her - just hear her. She was wonderful!

I saw Joan in concert many decades ago when she came to my university. She was awesome and my most vivid memory is of her leading us all in Amazing Grace. It shook the rafters of the Old Fieldhouse.

She is an ambassador for the rights of people of the world. It showed in her music but more importantly her actions were well documented during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's and beyond.❤

I have loved Joan Baez as long as I can remember. My dad loved to hear her sing and he introduced me to her music as a young child in the sixties. I saved up, and bought every album and repeatedly listened to them and sang with them all of my life. Her beautiful guitar playing and the feeling she interjected into her songs made every word and story come to life for me. I believe she has always tried to do the right things and I have never thought of her as self-righteous, only another human being trying to help bad situations. Bob Dylan wrote beautiful songs, Joan expressed them in her unique way. I look forward to the film coming out this week.

Can't wait to see the documentary. She's been an icon for me from the first time I ever heard her voice. Such an inspiration to witness how despite problems in her personal life, the truth-singing with love was always and forever at the forefront. Some of us got sidetracked by family tragedies much less serious.
Vietnam veteran, coming home I became a Quaker and proud to find Joan Baez had Quaker roots. I may not have all her albums, but many. So many times her voice has spoken to my condition, brought laughter and often tears for those who suffered and continue to do so ... god she could and can speak to the human soul.

Totally not surprised she is raising chickens.
I didn’t even hear her chickens because I have about 50 chickens who run loose so the chicken sounds are normal. I’d love to have her for a neighbor or friend. She’s perfect. Chicken people are fantastic. I don’t eat mine.
Joan was more than an entertainer. Her human rights activism is her legacy with which she used her beautiful voice to help right wrongs.

She was one of the first truly civil rights icons . I sort of lost track of Baez after the mid 70's but her 60's recordings are must-haves if you're a fan of her music. Lots of respect for her and it's well deserved.
Since the Sixties Ms. Baez has shared her deepest and most heart felt passions in life and love through her ethereal voice and song. She speaks honestly with purpose true to her soul. Ms. Baez has interpreted and to many improved Dylan’s songs meaningfully in a tender and personalized manner. She has revealed even more through her own songs - though she might modestly disagree. She has earned generational respect, admiration, and gratitude. Thank you.
Maybe 50 years ago I used to haunt a joint in Roslyn, N.Y. called My Father's Place, long gone. Joan was there I recall singing with her sister Mimi. It was an intimate enough place so that you could easily talk with the talent, ask questions and be enthralled. Joan will always stand out as the beautiful soul she was, is, and will always be. What a thrill it was to chat with her. I will always love her and her beautiful music.
I have been a fan of Joan Baez since I heard her first album in the 60's. A few years later, when I was in the Navy in Washington DC, I went to her free concert on the grounds of the Washington Monument where a Navy photographer friend of mine took photos which I still have. I sent one to her a number of years ago and received a gracious letter from her mother thanking me for the photo. I truly admire her talent, humor, courage, and honesty. Joan, thank you for it all!!!!!!

I saw Joan in 1969 in San Francisco, and I read her book. I am a survivor and I wish her the best. She looks great!
Wow this is just so moving. My late mother you to play many of her songs at home when I was growing up as a kid in the 80s. Hearing her story about her and her sister open me up when I had the same epiphany last year when I came out as transgender.
She’s an amazing woman and a national treasure. In the early 60s, my father was a fan of folk music and so, as a little girl, I was introduced to Joan Baez. Same with Dylan and other folk performers of that era. Once they started getting more political, my dad didn’t listen to their music anymore - but I did. I’d say that folk music is still my favorite genre.
How can I ever thank Joan Baez enough for her everlasting good influence on me and my family? I never even met her in person, but as a shy high school student, I sang many of her songs, and since then I have a habit of getting into "good trouble" thanks largely to her. Plus, I still sing her songs, with my friends. Her music, honesty and kindness are like an angel to my life.
I'm so happy she can finally breathe! That is the joy I found in my 60's. Priceless!

Joan Baez was one of my huge icons as a girl. I feel heartbroken for this *great* lady who spent most of her life feeling the loss of the man who was and still is, not worthy of tying her shoes. She deserved a very special love, I will let her story be the lesson...
He was her muse and I guess that counts for us having the gift that is her. I hope she knows it deep in her heart when she feels the love of her fans. We have stayed with her throughout the many decades, gladly and joyfully.

I can still remember the first time I heard her sing, it was from the Monterey folk festival and was being show on tv (those days small screens black/white) and I stood and listened and cried
Since then I have seem her several times, and in the early days it was easy to take photographs of performances of folks , need to go find these negatives and make some prints

Joan Baez has a facile faculty for all forms of artistic expression. I admire her talents very much.
Bob Dylan never would have moved from the club scene to the larger folk scene without becoming Joan's consort, the Queen of Folk (my parents once had her late sister Mimi over for dinner). I saw her in El Paso in 2017 on the Lampedusa tour for migrants during Trump's deportation craze and her voice had lost none of its power. Long live the great Baez!

Back in the '80s, Joan persuaded me to hire a young friend of hers as an assistant and we corresponded for the whole summer. Her letters were very funny and illustrated with marvelous stick figures. I still have them somewhere. I am several years older and have always loved her wonderful singing voice.

I discovered Joan when I was 16 ("From every stage" album) It gave me chills and soon I started translating (I am french) to understand every word and idea.
I saw her on stage several times in the 80's and 90's and it was always the same emotion.
I got interested in her early and current story and action and I still stay mind blown by her courage and implication: An example of engagement !
I grew up as a gay man in a very homophobic surrounding. Conservative family background. No role models. No support. The first time becoming aware of the fact that I have the right to become happy and proud was reading her 1987 book. This woman has inspired me to stay alive. Yes. She literally saved my life.
I just adore this woman -- kids today would do well for themselves to find her, her music, that era with Dylan, Pete Seeger and all of the others. The things they were able to do. All of the awareness they fomented. Do not let them go. Learn about them, and from them, especially while we still have them. If you don't, you have so much to lose.... and you won't even know it. That might be the bigest heartbreak of all.
I watched Joan on German TV around 1981 or 82 when I was living in Nurnberg (Nuremburg).
She was in Germany doing a performance at a small venue. She was so graceful and humble. She even sang a song in german. The German audience loved her.

Diamonds and Rust hit me hard at the time. I thought it was brilliant. I can’t carry a tune any longer, but I dearly loved to sing so many of her songs. She’s mellowed and seems to be a lot of fun. Thanks for the memories and the music Joan.

A fan since the 60s voice in so many ways for decades. She contributed so much to important protest issues. Lead and inspired.
It was as if we shared the same experiences no matter where we lived & your songs accompanied us then & now. Maybe we didn’t change the world, but we changed ourselves & each other.
I'm only 74 but I've listened to her music my whole life. I can't count how many times I've listened to some songs like "Forever Yours" (used in a father/daughter dance at my daughter's wedding), and so many others. And I've had a crush on Joan the whole time. She inspired goodness in others, including me. Though you'll never see this, I thank you for all of that Joan.
So many women and girls live the nightmare of having been molested, which stays with you throughout life. "They" DO remember what they did and that's what so sad. As artists we have to walk the fine line in order to continue - meaning make your world for yourself because no one is going to do that for the survivor. Folks on here saying don't speak about the dead - in our cases, that is our first chance for free speech from what has occurred in our families, and to free ourselves from that life-long, ever binding secret where they would have pinned us as the 'wrong-doer.'
