mr katz me too...this yr 2017 marks the 50 year anniversary of the summer of love, I was 21 in 1967. I was thinking a good place would be Eugene Oregon to celebrate it because there's going to be a total eclipse of the sun there in August, if I can get there...i'm old and crippled now and can't drive, but I love all these memories, all these comments and videos. I met Joan Baez once unexpectedly I was all alone in her dressing room backstage with her, I was caught off guard so dint say what I really wanted to say to her, it was around 1980 or late 70s
Trina Simon Eugene is long sold out for the eclipse but you can try...it's all in the soul anyhow...not where you are. I've changed a lot but the love this music has will live on forever...may peace be with you..
Joan Baez is a treasure. I've loved this song for years, but when I heard this version where she sings "young girl" instead of "young man," it brought me to my knees.
Always a beautiful voice 🎵🎸🎵 First saw her at the Philly Folk Festival back in the 60's with my parents. Was fortunate again to see her in person a few years ago in concert. In 9th grade my father taught me how to play guitar and we used to sing and play together at home, singing her songs, Ochs, Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, Pete Seeger, etc.... wonderful memories...........
I have seen a clip where she performs this song with Phil Ochs at the War Is Over rally in 1975. Less than a year after that Ochs took his life. As far as I know it was the first time they had actually met.
Thank you so much for posting this wonderful performance. She brought me to tears in Washington DC in September '05 at the UFPJ/Cindy Sheehan peace rally/demonstration with Where Have All the Flowers Gone? but tonight I was looking for this particular song. I offer you a deep bow of gratitude. It is a priceless gift.
I was 16 years old when I first heard this song. It had a profound effect on me making me decide that I would not judge anyone. When I was at college I bought a guitar and learned the finger-picking techniques by listening to her records. I have never met this wonderful woman but actually found myself standing next to her at a sheet-music stand at the Cambridge Folk festival! I saw her in Birmingham in March 2018 at her 'Farewell Tour and have seen her perform live on only 3 occasions. She is my heroine. Have you watched the performance of her singing 'Carrickfergus' in concert in Bratislava? Brilliant! A truly wonderful woman!
Yes they were good times and the music there seem to have been a collection of really great sounds fighting for my eyes and ears emotioins what a memory

I can not believe Joan Baez didn't take a minute to mention Phil Ochs and that he wrote the song.I bet a lot of people in that audience don't know who Phil Ochs was and maybe if Joan had mentioned that it might spur a few people to check out Phil out.Really disappointed in Joan.
I heard this song when I was 15 or so. It is still the heart of what I believe in
I must've been about 12 when I first heard it. Captivating.
WONDERFUL SONG ❤
Thanks Joan for singing this and thanks Phil Ochs for writing it.
Wow Am I so glad I grew up in the 60's
And I am so envious...
You still have youtube to bring it back...check out Arlo Guthrie at Woodstock
+mr katz but you were THERE. It was like a different world. Feels like 100 years ago.

XoXo
...!
pity about all the audio regalia blocking the view
Perhaps she mentioned him before she started and the video just didn't catch it.

Joan has been singing this since the 60's, she's given Phil credit for many years
CoXo
I love Joan singing this song but I don't appreciate her changing the words to a song that is not hers to change.
That's called "the folk process"
