  • I found that the versions of this video currently on TH-cam did not have very good quality, and this one looks better, so I decided to share. Besides, the legend deserves to be viewed in HQ.

He booked this wonderful magician simply to preserve for future generations to enjoy. Dick Cavett really understood the importance of archives

This is one of the great preservations for the archives from the 20th century. We owe a debt to Dick Cavett's foresight in recording and preserving this legendary magician for those of us in the 21st century who were not around to see him when he was alive.

Something very soothing about his performances

Hoping not to sound too corny, but he's truly "a magician"; where DECADES of technique render a trick so amazing, even if you learn "how" he did it, you couldn't reproduce it any time soon.

As a kid back in the late 70s early 80s, my magician/idol Slydini magically appears walking down the street at our grade school street festival Bleecker/Carmine Little Italy, New York city. One of those memories as fresh as if it was yesterday.
A gentleman in real life as well.

Best ever rope trickery. Hankerchiefs so smooth. I really love Slydini. Do you know what the date of this is? He was born in 1901 so I'm wondering how old he is here. Thanks very much for the upload. :) Edit: Just seen the credits - 1977. That means Slydini was 76 years old here. Amazing.

For people who didn't grow up with newspapers, they have a vertical "grain"; the fibers ran vertically, so they were very easy to rip (and a good crease helped too). Ripping them horizontally was a disaster if you wanted to keep a straight edge 😂

Destruiram a arte.
