About Cecilia:
Cecilia Blomdahl is originally from Sweden and moved to Svalbard 5.5 years ago. She works as a photographer and videographer in Longyearbyen, and with her social media channels, check her out on tiktok and instagram. Here on youtube she posts videos about her daily life in her cabin with her boyfriend and her dog Grim, living just outside of Longyearbyen. They are currently building a cabin extension, which is set to be finished in June. Your kitchen windows frame that view perfectly, it’s better than the best painting could ever be. I can just imagine how wonderful it is to sit there and look out at the ever changing view, the sunlight on the calm sea, or a storm rolling in.

As an Australian, who spent a year in Norway as an exchange student, I can‘t work out how you can keep your houses looking so tidy and immaculate 🤔 In my house, half the kitchen table and the coffee table are filled with clutter that I don‘t know what to do with 😏 In Norway, people just seem to know how to make their houses look so beautiful 😃
shove it all in the drawer while filming 😂 I don't think anyone can 'live' in such immaculate conditions, but a good tidy up is always possible before filming.
@@flowersflowers473 That makes me feel better too as I look around at my cluttered flat.
Having a good storage system for clothing, electronic extras, and various supplies make a big difference, not keeping things you don't "need" clutter wise, ie; if you don't use it or there's no sentimental value, why keep it? I don't live in Norway but I'm a big fan of not having "stuff" sitting around, so I use the concept of "Don't just put it down, put it away", so things just stay much cleaner overall. Once a year or every 6 months a nice "declutter" is really good too!
It's not just Norway it's just about having a habit of cleaning things up. I'm from New Zealand and believe our home is presentable for ourselves... Clean energy is always good energy. You know that feeling you get when you clean up a room and it just feels so welcoming and rewarding. Imagine feeling that everyday.
I remember an Oprah episode once where she said if you haven't used something or worn something for 6 months throw it out . also everytime you buy a new piece of clothing get rid of an old piece. I have to say by roughly sticking to this I have so much more space and less clutter . so glad to see my ice cream maker go which I never used closely followed by the bread maker !!!

I like that the window frames in the bathroom is white. It matches the sink.
Me too! The white is a nice contrast against the dark walls.
I agree. The white paint around the windows in the bathroom, makes for a lovely contrast and they are not too overpowering. If they get painted black, then too much black makes the room too "Depressing" which you do not need during the winter!!! Especially when there is no sun in the winter.

The step down to your living room is called a “sunken living room” in real estate lingo. It’s pretty cool

Actually my home when I was a teenager was similar to this - with steps up to the living room from the kitchen which was on the lower level along with the bedrooms and the bathroom. Like your cabin the old house stopped at a certain point, but when the living room was added on, they built a 2 car garage underneath the living room, so it became a "split level" house. It had not originally been built that way.
Grim coming in and wrecking the couch cracked me up 😂 pets are why we can't have nice things but we love them anyways!

Cecilia - you guys have so nailed this.
One thing to consider is the microwave and the gaps around it, they generate a lot of heat at the back so make sure the ventilation is good
Or just get rid of the nuissance appliance😉

Many people love using a microwave intensely. A person just has to be careful that there is enough ventilation around the sides of the device.

We have a 2 story house, where is the staircase to go upstairs? In the kitchen....we don't care lol. I thought you made the bathroom black walls and the white trim around the windows on purpose. It looks fabulous! I'd leave it, it's stunning.

Such a beautiful home. Grim is so cute. It made me giggle that he is scared of the floor. My cat Gerrard is the same. He is scared of the new bath mat and won't go into the bathroom.
Oh my goodness! Such a beautiful place! I love everything, especially the “ gallery wall” of windows in the kitchen, and throughout. The deck, where you can see polar bears in the evening. And when you get water for shower, kitchen, it will be perfect! I am so envious! I especially loved Grims response to the new surroundings, please don’t be mad about the tassel..it’s insignificant, he looks so happy💓

Your home is so beautiful! I can't believe it's been five months already since the build has started and now it's finished, it's amazing how the time flew by! I can only imagine how challenging it must have been throughout the process when you were living in this space at the same time, but it was so worth it. Whole space looks wonderful, you have a great style Cecilia. Kitchen windows are the best, it's going to be great having dinners and looking out the windows. I love everything and you have given me some amazing ideas and plans for my own renovations! It looks absolutely amazing; I can't believe the transformation. You both have done a great job with the vision for this, it has worked so well. It turned out so good! It has been so much fun to learn and watch the construction progress! It is so fresh and bright - a very happy, modern space. The exterior doors are gorgeous - are the doors and windows polar bear resistant? I would love to see more homes and their owners on Svalbard. It’s so interesting to see where and how people live there.

For what it’s worth, you unintentionally have the layout my house has on purpose. My bedroom is close to the kitchen and a bathroom. It’s really convenient to have that way as you’re starting and ending your day. Plus, it’s just the two of you most of the time so it’s not like privacy is a problem. It’s also nice having the guest bedroom on the other side of the house because it gives everyone privacy and is quieter for everyone. Your home is beautiful!
You should take a summer photo out of that bathroom portal window oveerlooking the green hill in the background, print it on glass and mount it in the window during the winter so when the winter scene shines thru, you'll see the summer view. Of course won't work in the polar night, but it would still be cool. Gosh, love the new house!
The addition to the house is spectacular. I love the windows in the kitchen and the newly decorated living room. Love the windows and view from both those areas. The bathroom looks great the way it is. No need to make changes in it. The new bedroom is perfect. Your work area, the TV room, walk in closest and Christoffer’s wardrobe area are perfect. Glad your happy with the renovations. That’s most important that you both are pleased with how it came out. Enjoy your time in Portable with your parents.
