Honestly, I can see it being the secret power man. He accidentally discovered this entirely hidden oasis with secret power, and after befriending the desert spirit flygon that lived there, established a small settlement for trainers to rest and battle.
Wouldn't Fallabor town be better suited for a Poison gym than a-top a volcano? The area is blanketed in ash, so it would have the same theme as you intended. We could invent a new poison type weather move called Ash Fall, or rather Acid Rain, and Ash Fall could just the native effect. Non poison Pokemon exposed to it are subjected to a Toxic effect, which resets upon switching out. The difference between it and regular Toxic would be EVERY Pokemon on the field is exposed, even yours. It would make Poison types even more useful
Ok I did some digging and apparently Acid Rain is already a fan made move. It could made real and instead of what I suggested before, Ash Fall could still be a native weather but instead directly damaging, it could convert all special attacks into Poison type moves
@@alpharabbit2353 I think that this is a bit much. Maybe have it act like the ability refrigerate which turns normal type moves to ice. Acid rain could convert normal type moves to poison?
@@christopherv2639 If you haven't noticed, I addressed that with a comment on the post. Not completely sure how to handle the idea but I believe your suggestion is best. Empowering Normal moves is never a bad thing. God knows they're not amazing as is
@Declan McKenna Problem with that is that Toby already had the idea for Fairy type gym leader/coordinator. I feel repeats would only stunt creativity. A Koga disciple might be a decent idea. Utilizing the ash as tool for stealth and escape, as well as having an understanding of its toxic properties would make a ninja a perfect choice
@@alpharabbit2353 I noticed that you addressed this by making all special moves poison but i felt that this was unbalanced because if every special move became poison all you would have to do is have lots of Steel type Pokemon and they would become immune to special attacks now.
This series makes me feel sad that that fake leak about Minor and Major League Gyms in SwSh was, well, fake. Imagine having Minor League Gyms with the missing types, and having to beat that to qualify for a Tournament where the Top X Trainers would be awarded the Poké-street cred to challenge the Major League Gyms and eventually take on the Elite4! Man, putting that into words makes me want it even more! Great video as always!
@@tuskoub I mean, yes... but it's not that it amounts to nothing, is that it barely exists. The only reference I can remember is Kiara/Avery becoming one by the time of the Galarian Star tournament, and that was just a "this is what happened to them" moment...
Finally another Missing Gym Leader's video! I loved Emperor Cubone's versions and absolutely love how you are doing the same series with different takes. It just opens up the world so much more and gives different perspectives!
For Flygon, it entirely depends on when you should be encountering the gym imo. If it's right after flannery then he should be in the early 30's, so Vibrava is preferred, if he's an optional gym leader that you can face at any time before Juan (or aren't required to face him at all due to being an unofficial leader like the Fighting leader in Saffron), then make his team late 30-early 40's and give him a Flygon. If you're 5+ levels under him then you're just not ready to face him and you should get further along in the story first. I would also suggest giving him a Camerupt for an anti-Grass and Ice mon, also because having only 3 mons for a Gym leader that at the very earliest would be a 5th Gym is too little. For Grass I'd also replace the Grovyle with a Breloom or Ludicolo (either one is fine with me) for type variety, or replace Grovyle with one and add the other, or have all 3 mons in the team. Winnona herself has 5 mons in Emerald so it seems like it'd be perfectly fine for the Grass Gym in around the same spot to also have 5 mons, especially since at least one of them (Roselia) is unevolved.
Agreed. Perhaps the oasis is only accessible with Secret Power, which you find inside the Magma Hideout after badge 6 due to them likely using the move to delve into the mountain? There would need to be an alternative if the original secret power guy is the gym leader. Being the 7th gym, he could reasonably have a Flygon, would likely also have Claydol, and would need a 4th mon to be viable - I would suggest Sandslash with Sand Veil because it seems thematically appropriate and Sandshrew naturally appear in the Hoenn desert, or maybe the evolved form of the fossil the player doesn't pick.
I think Flygon would be fine for a fifth gym ace. Its highest base stats are 100, which isn't really that good nowadays compared to in the past, so I think it would be fine. A team of Baltoy, Whiscash, and Flygon would definitely be fine for a fifth gym IMO. Whiscash easily goes down to a Grass type like Roselia or Cacnea, and then there are Fairies to counter Flygon like Azumarill and Wigglytuff that you would be able to obtain before then.
Why not go all the way with Jessie and James and let their battle be a Double Battle (Like Tate and Liza)? You could even make their entrance one of their performances with all the cross dressing.
would be so funny if they did that and the strategy guy at the start of the gym is just REALLY annoyed with them so when they start their motto, he just responds with "okay okay WE GET IT"
Toby, muddy water is a water-type move. Maybe instead they give out Bulldoze? I also echo what others have said about Fallarbor town being the better setting for your poison gym. My idea for Hoenn's grass leader is somewhat similar to cubone's, but also different-you double battle Wally's relatives in Verdanturf, the couple you used Rock smash to reunite. The man uses Lileep and Breloom, pokemon that can be obtained in or near Rustboro and also fit his black belt look. The woman uses Roselia, but also a surprise in Cherrim, a pokemon not native to hoenn (id assume this would be a few years later and the cherubi line was introduced to hoenn). This is to show off double battle capabilities with sunny day, solar beam and chlorophyll, as well as Cherrim's Flower Gift boosting the power of Breloom's physical attacks. Their gym id assume would incorporate a flower motif, and of course they'd give you the solarbeam tm.
Cool video. I really like your ideas especially the Ground gym. You could have used the Berry Master's house/garden on Route 123 for the Grass or Fairy gym perhaps. The Berry Master could have been the gym leader and maybe each of his Pokemon has a different berry for handling status conditions or recovering health etc.
I would do something odd with the gums in Hoenn as they all the gym towns have something unique. Ground: Based upon island living, located right of Mt. Pyre, so I think 5 gym badges would be appropriate to have before battling. In the area theres smaller rocky alcoves, and one traditional island with plants, sandy beaches, rock formations, ect. The gym leader is Phoebe's sister Gaia who lives alone in the island so she keeps an eye out for her grandparents. She likes to trick the player by making sandcastles in the shape of ghost pokemon. Her team is Donphan, Linoone, Whiscash, and Golem is her ace. Bug: I think it would be cool for this gym to be on Ever Grande Island, as it has a lush meadow appearance in game.Of course it would be a late game gym, so let's say 6 badges are required. The gym leaders name is Manny who loves Ever Grande Island and spelunking in the aquatic caves. His team is composed of many different regional bug types as he's non-native. He battles with rotational style battling his team is Dustox, Galvantula, Surskit, Masquerain, and Volcorona. Grass: Since Hoenn is extremely tropical I think it would be natural to have it close to water and trees. This choice might sound contrived, but south of Littleroot. When flying you can see Littleroot is located on a peninsula and so I think as a third gym it would be great. Mr. Briney can help you reach the southern area below Littleroot. The gym leader could be your mom, she seems like a flower enthusiast to me, and her team would be Gloom, Bellossom, and Vileplume. It would mirror her husband and his fondness for the slakoff line. Having her show off one single grass line would be cool, and what else is your mom doing while at home. Poison: Okay so another weird pic, but put this gym on the caldera surrounding Mt. Chimney, the poisonous gases spewed out being the reason for placement. The gym leader is nome other than Mrs. Cosmo, the wife of Prof. Cosmo, I think it would be cool if she specialized poison because she's in a toxic relationship with the professor. Jk. I feel like she would also be a scientist and with a volcanic area as a primary feature she could study volcanoes. Her (Alka's) team can resemble Flint's DP team. With Arbok, Magcargo, Sandslash, and Seviper. 4 pokemon in a gym would fit well after defeating your mom so I think this would be the 4th gym. Fairy: So this one I have an idea that's kinda special since you couldn't find fairy type before gen 6, and what's introduced the same gen? The Eon flute. Once you have access to this item you can access the gym as it's located on a manmade island WAAAY southwest of Dewford City. This island could be affectionately called the Fairy house. The leader should have a connection to Valerie so the idea is Monet left Valerie's gym to have her own so she built an island sanctuary for fairies including Comfey, Alcreamie, ect. Monet is rich and mildly bratty with a team consisting of Wigglytuff, Azumarill, Ribombee, Milotic, and Mega Altaria.
Why do I feel like the whole grass type leader mom thing came from that rumor floating around as a kid about how if you beat the League 10 times in a row, your mom would become a Grass type leader in Littleroot Town?
@@majoratwili7312 My mind was subconsciously advertising the rumor I suppose. I just like the idea of your mom being a trainer especially in Hoenn it makes sense.
Also I LOVED the idea of the oasis on the desert especially since there was one in Pokemon XD and Colosseum, I can't believe pokemon company didn't think if it looking back
aarune(the secret base guy)'s ace is flygon so it would make sense for him to be the ground type gym leader. i think pike queen lucy would make for a better poison type gym leader considering her whole aesthetic is seviper, and yes i know cubone had the same idea too. the bug gym idea is genius, although i prob would've added a wurmple for a third 'mon to lead with
I just beat Giovanni in let's go and something I really like that that game does that I haven't seen since or before is having to complete specific tasks before you can fight a gym leader like I complete the last five gym leaders completely out of order and it was really refreshing
Absolutely smashing video mate! Loved it! The incorporation of game and anime characters is always a nice touch as well which adds another layer of creativity. Can’t wait to see how you tackle Unova!
Toby, you don’t teleport to New Mauville (the old project that went nowhere). May takes you to Petalburg. New Mauville can’t even be visited until after Kyogre/Groudon is defeated.
Something I've always wanted was a 8th gym that was Bug Type, like the gym leader could have Golisopod, Scolipede, Heracross ex. I'd really like a challenging Bug gym one day.
You could totally have a late game bug type gym in unova with all the amazing bug types there, scolipede, levanny, gavantula, volcarona and crustle would all be good. (I know theres already a bug gym, but it could've come later)
Toby, I wish you would have done all types instead of ignoring Elite 4 and Champion. If you look at Gary's badges, he has the different types of Gym Leaders we don't battle against.
I, too, like these. They are indeed an interesting creative exercise. Grass- Verdanturf Town. Gym Leader has a Roselia (obviously), a Grovyle ( a stereotypical "cool" Pokemon to suit the town's history of holding contests, and a Bellossom (not a Gen III Pokemon, but it is Hoenn native, it counts) Poison- New Mauville, as it's a dingy urban area similar to those wherein Poison type Pokemon are found. The gym leader has a Swalot, a Dustox, and a Muk (see above) Ground- the area in the back of Granite Cave with the mudslides (the one where you find Nosepass). This fits Gen III introducing a lot of mud based Ground moves. Leader has a Whiscash, a Trapinch (it's a creepy cave), and a Donphan (there's bike puzzles here). Bug- the Scorched Slab. Not for the cave itself, but for Route 120. It has lots of puddles and tall grass which are both very popular with real-world insects. Gym Leader obviously has Ninjask and Shedinja (cicadas love the environment I described), Masquerain, and Volbeat. Borrowing your idea of footprint guy, I'm using him for Fairy. He doesn't let you pass so much as he disappears. Later, after getting Surf, you take the shortcut to Petalburg from Slateport by surfing across Route 103 and see the footprint guy there acting and looking strange. He challenges you to a battle, wherein he has a Jigglypuff, Mawile, and Gardevoir, which either symbolize the weirdness of fairy type Pokemon or have mind control powers themselves.
Funny you mention the ground gym my friend and I talked about what gym we would have, and I said mine woould be a water/ground oasis gym in the desert using botg water and ground types to sustain that oasis.
If not Jessie, Mt. Chimey's gym leader could be Harley or Drew from the anime. (Drew specifically is not only a coordinator but he's known for using Roselia, a Hoenn Poison-Type.)
Mudkip learns rock throw and Treecko learns pursuit/assurance to deal with Shedinja. The devs would just have to tweak the levels they learn those moves to give players an opportunity to defeat it with their starter, kind of like how Fire Red/Leaf Green gave Charmander metal claw to deal with Brock
I think i would give the bug gymleader just Beautifly and Dustox. A perfect introduction to the kind of pokemon you find in the region. (Maybe even make it a double battle)
The best place for a fairy gym is at the end of victory road the flower garden where u battle wally and wally would be the gym leader final battle before the e4 Alicia too
Have you ever throught about making Gym leaders for side games that don't have any? Say like for the Colosseum games based in the future where they get there own pokemon league?
I've always had an idea for a Bug Type Gym Leader named Izacc who is actually a mid game Gym Leader. He would be a Pokémon Explorer who's an expert survivalist who loves nature but also an expert in computer technology and radio science. He would where a Navy t-shirt with a neon green and silver mountain and tree logo on it, Navy cargo shorts silver stripes going down and neon green pockets, neon green socks and navy tennis shoes with silver markings and laces. He'd also where a Navy and green striped visor cap similar to the hat worn by Nate in B2W2 and the Dowsing machine in ORAS with thin and sharp silver antenna protrusions. His black hair would have up curled bangs that look sort of like insect mandibles or tusks and a medium length ponytail that looks similar to a stinger. And an elongated hexagonal neon green backpack with a silver mountain and tree logo like his shirt. He'd always carry around his laptop, charger, battery pack, a satellite radio attachment for his laptop, umbrella, sleeping bag, Pokémon Medicine and Max repels in the bottom portion of his backpack. In the smaller top portion, he'd have cooled lunch bag with water, human and Pokémon food and more medicine. His pockets would have his smart phone, charger, battery pack, glowing markers, flashlight, and Pokéballs. He'd use Ultra Balls and Net Balls. And he'd have neon green half rim glasses shaped like bottom hexagons with matching flip shade attachments that when up complete the hexagon shape and when down match the half hexagon glasses. He'd also have his Keystone dangling from a chain on his glasses. He'd only challenge you to double battles and his initial team would be Ninjask with Swords Dance, X-Scissor, protect and Aerial Ace and Shedinja with Swords Dance, X-Scissor, Protect and Shadow Sneak. And his other Pokémon would be Masquerain with Air Slash, Bubble Beam, Signal Beam, and Tailwind and Pinsor with Swords Dance, Bulldoze, X-Scissor, and Brick Break holding a Sitrus Berry. His rematch Team would be Ninjask with Swords Dance Protect, Leech Life, and Acrobatics and Shedinja with Toxic, Protect, Shadow Sneak, and Lunge holding a Lum Berry. His two new Pokemon would be Volcarona with Quiver Dance, Fiery Dance, Bug Buzz, and Psychic holding a Charcoal and Araquanid with Liquidation, Leech Life, Crunch, and Ice Beam holding a Mystic Water. His last Pokémon would be Masquerain with Quiver Dance, Air Slash, Bug Buzz, and Icy Wind holding Focus Sash and Pinsor with Lunge, Earthquake, Power-up Punch and Double Edge holding Pinsorite. When it Mega evolves it gains the ability Airialate so the Double Edge is going to be dangerous, especially if it's already used Power-up Punch. And Earthquake has no effect on its ally Masquerain. Izacc's specialty is setting up with power boosting moves. And he'd probably be the 4th or 5th Gym Leader in the main story.
i think he forgot about poochyena for shedinja. It gets bite at level 13 for gen 3 and at level 10 for gen 6. Although, a shedinja as a first gym in old dale town would be somewhat hard considering you get it at level 20 from evolving a nincada.
I'll just leave some old OC's that would work with the ideas you came up with Ground Type: Gym Leader: Cliff- if you don't know Cliff is one of the Pokemon rangers from the fiore region not far from Hoene, it's likely he could've come to Hoene after the Team Go-Rock incident and made a living as a gym leader within the desert after helping people deal with the loads upon loads of trapinch in the area. We don't actually know who his partner pokemon is but, seeing as his name is Cliff he seems like a good fit for the Ground type gym leader. I like the idea of his partner pokemon and ace being Flygon, with Wishcash, and Claydol as his other two pokemon. His levels would probably be around 46 to 40 on average due to Vibrava evolving at 45. After beating him you'd recieve the TM for his pokemon's signature move of Earthquake and he'd give you the Terra badge that resembles the face of a trapinch. The gym could have trainers popping out from piles of sand and soot similar to the ninja boys you find near the ash covered grasses. Cliff always seemed very fun in the pokemon ranger games and pokemon rangers often spend time helping the community so I imagine it'd be natural to see younger trainers in his gym training to get stronger. Poison Type: while I like the idea of Jesse or someone similar I think there are poison types for her team that you left out. I think Jesse or whoever ran the gym would work with this team. Seviper: Poison Tail, Screech, Crunch and Poison Fang with the hidden ability Shed Skin that would allow Seviper to cure itself of status conditons such as paraylisis, burn, and poison (since in gen 3 poison types can be poisoned) Swallow with the ability Liquid Ooze that'll prevent pokemon from train to drain its health with moves like drain punch, it's moveset could be Sludge, Poison Gas, Stockpile and Body Slam The final pokemon would be Dustox with Compound Eyes to better land those critical hits and like in the anime it would be more focused on its bug type moves and trying to put you in a corner. Give it Moonligh, Psychic, Silver Wind and Sludge Bomb which will be the TM you get after beating Jesse and recieving the Spite badge. Oh and as a nod to her beloved arbok I like the idea that her badge will resemble the scary pattern on arbok's belly as a tribute to her lost companion and her gym could be similar the Whitney where if you view the entire gym from above it looks like a coiling snake. Bug Type the nerd idea is wonderful but we should give them a name so I propose to use Antonio his team could be Surskit like you said but, I have a better idea. Since bug types have so many weaknesses and the bugs of Hoene rarely get enough love, if you wanted to set the gym up a few levels you could place the gym on within the forest and you have to use Cut in order to reach him, Antonio's gym will appear in the ORAS games, his gym puzzle would function like the footprint mini game in Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky / Darkness/ Time where they show you a footprint and three options if you guess it right you battle the trainer and get a boost to one of your stats if you get it wrong one of your stats will decrease very similar to Opal's gym in Galar but it's give the gym something very memorable and pay a call back to really fun mini game that sadly we'll probably never see again. then at the end of the path you see Antonio. He gives you a speech about how sometimes strategy is greater than brute strength as he sends out his first pokemon, Masquerain with Intimidate as its ability, it would show off the wide range of TMs that it has access to in its moveset by carrying Blizzard, Giga Drain, Stun Spore, and Roost it may not have stab but it won't matter because it'll be able to catch you by surprise if you come in expecting to sweep the Gym with Swellow or Altaria Second up is Shedinja using its broken ability and moves designed to put you at a disadvantage Antonio's goal will be to make you think about how you're going to beat him before you even start the quiz. Ninjask will then come in. With Speed Boost for an ability it can start setting up with Swords Dance, Agility, Furry Cutter, and Sand Attack, you better beat him quikly before he finishes you off with his last pokemon Armaldo a rarely seen pokemon but, after reviving it from a fossil he found on the same path where you first meet him (also making a call back to the nerd from the cave in gen 1) Armaldo is Antonio's pride and joy and Battle Armor will make sure you won't be getting lucky with any Crits. He'll try to beat what's left of your team using Metal Claw, Furry Cutter, Ancient Power, and Slash with him being the first gym leader in the franchise to use a held item in the form of a Quick Claw. At the end of the battle he praises your strategy and endurance as he gives you the Chrysalis badge which bears a striking resemblance to the Footprint Ribbon from the pokemon manga and he tells you that his badge is actually modeled after an incredibly rare collectors item and for your efforts gives you the TM for Furry Cutter and access to a route through the forest that would allow you to travel to a hidden area of the forrest where really rare pokemon migrate. This would allow the trainer to catch pokemon like Heracross, Venomoth, Butterfree, and Beedrill even if they don't have FireRed and LeafGreen within this area you'll also be able to find the mythical Jirachi in the post game at the Wisher's Rest this event won't be accessible until after you've beaten the Elite 4 (this gives the player the ability to actually use pokemon that are in the Hoene dex but for some reason or another are nearly impossible to find in the wild normally) the fairy gym I agree with everything you said but, I'd add an additional twist where the gym will actually be placed right next door to the Pokemon Daycare, and you'll be greeted by Mr. Sukizo with his signature catchphrase of Remarkable, and I Like It in the Japanese version we know next to nothing about this man except for the fact that in the anime he's apparently the chairmen of the Pokemon Fanclub in both Hoene and Sinnoh which means he would have to know a lot about friendship evolution, something that's very common among Fairy Types he's also shown to give love to pokemon who often don't seem to get a lot of attention. Mr. Sukizo will basically judge every battle you do the same way he would a contest. Where if you use two moves of the some category Beauty, Cool, Smart, Tough, or Cute he'll boost one of your stats based one which category used but, this can also boost your opponents stats. Most people would normally put moves on their pokemon without thinking about contests at all and many of the moves for contests aren't considered all that great in battle this kind of gym would force the trainer to think the same way May and Dawn do in the anime where they have to think about both how strong their team is but also how well their team will fair against the contest judge before facing of course the gymleader and contest champion herself. At the end of the gym she'll give you the Ribbon Badge and the TM for Draining Kiss almost as a Kiss goodbye after you've beaten her.
@@nickdentoom1173 Well, they usually avoid giving starters to gym leaders and elite four. The only instance of an elite four having a starter ghat i can remember is flint and that's just because there are like 2 fire types in diamond and pearl
@@arjunabhyankar85 I mean: Misty has a Blastoise in the BW2 games, Erika has a Venusaur. Obviously, Lance has Charizard, there is also Blue with his starter. Flannery with Blaziken, Wallace with Swampert, Gardenia with Turtwig/Torterra, Crasher Wake with Empoleon. We have Flint with Infernape, but as Champions, we have Leon with 2 starters (The one you or your rival didn't pick and Charizard)
I like the idea of Jessie being a poison type gym leader. Lisia is also a good choice for a fairy gym leader, although instead of a Mawile I'd give her a Marill or a Jigglypuff.

i see a small missed opportunity for Jessie having her Arbok as her ace, since it's the first pokemon we see her use (i believe so at least) but overall great video!
I remember that girl from Omega ruby that always beat me in the contests, I hated when she beat me also it would be cool to see Jessie as a poison type gym using her Arbok or Seviper would be nice I missed them. I think a desert would be good for a ground type gym.
I'm not too sure about giving the Bug Gym Leader a Shedinja. That really forces what Pokémon you can actually use against it. I would rather the ace be a Beautifly, Dustox, Masquerain, or Ninjask.
Yeah, I was thinking this. It forces you to pick certain Pokémon that work rather then getting to pick your team, which is in the end Pokémon’s purpose.
I would imagine a Normal Gym in Galar as an introduction to Hidden Abilities. Mallory Greedent with Gluttony Kangaskhan with Scrappy Ace Dubwool with Bulletproof G-Max Snorlax with Gluttony for a rematch I know Kangaskhan isn’t a Galar Pokémon, but there’s so few and I don’t want to step into Indeedee with Psychic Surge or Linoone with Quick Feet. Thoughts? I would also throw in a line about her family across the world being great with Normal types, with one exception who went on to take the Gym Challenge as a nice reference to Whitney, and the Maple Family, including the Hoenn Protagonist (either male or female).
toby: bug is a perfect for a first gym. especially in hoenn! also toby: **[puts a level 20 shedinja inside of a gym in oldale town, where it's almost garenteed to outspeed and ohko your level 5-7 mon]**
I was thinking he would do a bug gym be the third having both Shedinja and Ninjask, and maybe an level higher Nincada, it would be interesting, in my opinion
Someone should make a rom hack with these gyms. It wouldn't add much more content, but I think it'd be interesting. I feel like it wouldn't be too terribly hard of an edition either.
I remember a girl south of mount pyre that mentions wanting to become the second fairy gym leader. I can't bring myself to care *that* much about gen 3, so I might be wrong.
BKT: “This would replace the 3rd or 4th gym badge” Me 1 minute later: “Yeah, at worst, Flygon is the 2nd strongest gym Pokemon... no way you put it that early”
How are trainers supposed to be able to take on a flygon at an appropriate level for a fourth or fifth gym (or even a vibrava at that rate)!? Trapinch doesn’t even evolve until lv. 35, let alone to have a flygon be the ace Pokémon, it would have to be lv. 45 at the lowest. 🤨🧐
That and Altaria (35) would be weird......I suppose you could have an underleveled version of each but then you make madam's a Mega and yeah you'll probably be crushed 90% of the time. Still a fun idea all around.
I have only played, omega ruby and alpha sapphire, at friends houses so I'm not really able to remember, a lot of what there is there. I would have a water type gym, near a lake. Two reasons, one clean water and two, not as many bugs. The next one would be a ground type gym, close to an open field, reason being, alot of rodent Pokemon and plenty of bird types. A grass type gym, would be near a forest, like the one in Pokemon gold. Reason, alot bug types and fewer rodent Pokemon. Also a possible ghost encounter. For poison type, as a gym, I'd go with an old industrial plaza, with a housing complex in the area. Lastly, fairy would be near a really old city, one with moss on the buildings and a huge rotting log near by.
So the ground gym is 3rd badge with one Pokémon who evolves pass 30 and one pass 40? And James weezin is going to devolve for the 2nd gym. The grass one wasn't horrible. The bug one has a Pokémon that starts off at level 20 and gyms like to have Pokémon around the same level so another bust. The fairy one would need levels of Pokémon for me to have an opinion.
How about taking a page from Galar and having different gym leaders, and even gyms, in different games? Since the Poison gym is so close to Lavaridge already, you can fight Flannery in Ruby, but Jessie in Sapphire. Add to it fighting Spencer in Sapphire instead of Winona, and maybe Mudkip won't even be the ultimate starter for it. Maybe it's Torchik, though it'll have a hard time against Team Aqua. Or maybe I should turn it around and have Flannery and Winona in Sapphire and Jessie and Spencer in Ruby, so there's not really a better starting Pokemon. Also, make Wallace an elite 4 in both games, and make Lisia or Juan (Ice-type) the final gym leader. They will be problematic for all starters, Fairy-type has no weaknesses any starter can exploit, and Blaziken will probably have at least one not very effective Fighting move, forcing you to calculate carefully the PP for his one or two Fire moves. Combining Ice and Water types and moves, Juan's team is super-effective against two Pokemon, and Swampert has the same problems Blaziken has against Lisia. The gym still belongs to Wallace, he just left it in the care of his niece or his... best friend? I guess?
Dont we have to count E4 types too? If gyms change over time, maybe E4 members were not in any moment in time, or maybe they were gym leaders before or something like that. To count all 18 types
I mean just because a town has a gym leader doesn't mean that gym leader was always that towns gym leader. I mean look at Chili, Cress, Cilan, Brycen and Lenora from Unova they were all replaced two years later in the sequel games. Whose not to say Winona replaced Spencer after he was recruited to be a Frontier Brain?
Honestly, I can see it being the secret power man. He accidentally discovered this entirely hidden oasis with secret power, and after befriending the desert spirit flygon that lived there, established a small settlement for trainers to rest and battle.
In the context of Flygon being the elusive Spirit of the Desert, I feel it was a missed opportunity to give it Sand Veil

Great video as always!
sword and shield should have been that.
The game DOES have the Minor/Major league referenced in it several times, it just never amounts to anything which is disappointing
@@tuskoub I mean, yes... but it's not that it amounts to nothing, is that it barely exists. The only reference I can remember is Kiara/Avery becoming one by the time of the Galarian Star tournament, and that was just a "this is what happened to them" moment...
The poison gym leader Jessilina, retired from contests because of too many upstart newbies not understanding her PASSION! XD
Finally another Missing Gym Leader's video! I loved Emperor Cubone's versions and absolutely love how you are doing the same series with different takes. It just opens up the world so much more and gives different perspectives!
For ground: Flygon is too strong. Make it Vibrava for initial, Flygon for rematch. Grass: why not put it on the route that leads to Fortree City?
or the routes after. i feel that the safari zone would make a great gym location
The fact that check with Emperor cubone and his videos to give proper credit makes me so happy. You are my fav Pokémon Professor
Why not go all the way with Jessie and James and let their battle be a Double Battle (Like Tate and Liza)? You could even make their entrance one of their performances with all the cross dressing.
would be so funny if they did that and the strategy guy at the start of the gym is just REALLY annoyed with them
so when they start their motto, he just responds with "okay okay WE GET IT"
You opened a can of worms by including Jessie. Maybe make an exception and let her have a Slazzle.
Man, the music in this video is taking me back….
I love the idea of the Shedinja being used as such a good teaching tool.
Toby you are absolutely smashing it out the park with the videos now!
Also I LOVED the idea of the oasis on the desert especially since there was one in Pokemon XD and Colosseum, I can't believe pokemon company didn't think if it looking back
aarune(the secret base guy)'s ace is flygon so it would make sense for him to be the ground type gym leader. i think pike queen lucy would make for a better poison type gym leader considering her whole aesthetic is seviper, and yes i know cubone had the same idea too. the bug gym idea is genius, although i prob would've added a wurmple for a third 'mon to lead with
Cubone already had this, Toby was actively avoiding being a copycat, she in Kanto.
I just beat Giovanni in let's go and something I really like that that game does that I haven't seen since or before is having to complete specific tasks before you can fight a gym leader like I complete the last five gym leaders completely out of order and it was really refreshing
Not gonna lie ,best pokétuber intro

I like the fact that you can battle 5 npcs in ORAS in the post game that represent the missing types
These types of videos are fascinating.
Toby, you don’t teleport to New Mauville (the old project that went nowhere). May takes you to Petalburg. New Mauville can’t even be visited until after Kyogre/Groudon is defeated.
I think he meant mauville city, which you get teleported to after completing meteor falls
I feel it makes sense to consider the Elite Four top tier gym leaders elected to act as the final challenge for the championship
@@alpharabbit2353 I understand. But I would still like a Dark Type Gym in Hoenn, or Ice or Dragon or Steel, along with the Elite Four.
@@silverbullet1620 maybe they could take some notes from galar and alola by having the elite four be gym leaders you faced before?
I, too, like these. They are indeed an interesting creative exercise.
Grass- Verdanturf Town. Gym Leader has a Roselia (obviously), a Grovyle ( a stereotypical "cool" Pokemon to suit the town's history of holding contests, and a Bellossom (not a Gen III Pokemon, but it is Hoenn native, it counts)
Poison- New Mauville, as it's a dingy urban area similar to those wherein Poison type Pokemon are found. The gym leader has a Swalot, a Dustox, and a Muk (see above)
Ground- the area in the back of Granite Cave with the mudslides (the one where you find Nosepass).
He challenges you to a battle, wherein he has a Jigglypuff, Mawile, and Gardevoir, which either symbolize the weirdness of fairy type Pokemon or have mind control powers themselves.
literally all of your content is so great
Mega Altaria was one of my favorite megas to use in 6th gen competitive battles. good mid game sweeper.
This video brought you my subscribble Toby!
You already get the bullet seed TM early on in the third generation games but aside from that? Awesome video!!
8 gyms per region except when multiple regions are in a game such as hg/ss and maybe a all region pokemon game
You could beat shedinja with struggle if you dont want to catch a new pokemon
I think i would give the bug gymleader just Beautifly and Dustox. A perfect introduction to the kind of pokemon you find in the region. (Maybe even make it a double battle)
The best place for a fairy gym is at the end of victory road the flower garden where u battle wally and wally would be the gym leader final battle before the e4
Alicia too
Have you ever throught about making Gym leaders for side games that don't have any?
See I would’ve made The contest girl a gym leader in slateport city. Such a big city for a fairy type gym and the contest. I think it’s better imo
Very good video !
“hey pokemon masters”
me: i’m no master, i’m uhh a guy who only does monolockes when he’s bored
Toby I love this series and I wish you the best of luck always 😊😊
I'll just leave some old OC's that would work with the ideas you came up with
Ground Type:
Gym Leader: Cliff- if you don't know Cliff is one of the Pokemon rangers from the fiore region not far from Hoene, it's likely he could've come to Hoene after the Team Go-Rock incident and made a living as a gym leader within the desert after helping people deal with the loads upon loads of trapinch in the area.
Poison Type:
while I like the idea of Jesse or someone similar I think there are poison types for her team that you left out. I think Jesse or whoever ran the gym would work with this team.
Seviper: Poison Tail, Screech, Crunch and Poison Fang with the hidden ability Shed Skin that would allow Seviper to cure itself of status conditons such as paraylisis, burn, and poison (since in gen 3 poison types can be poisoned)
Swallow with the ability Liquid Ooze that'll prevent pokemon from train to drain its health with moves like drain punch, it's moveset could be Sludge, Poison Gas, Stockpile and Body Slam
The final pokemon would be Dustox with Compound Eyes to better land those critical hits and like in the anime it would be more focused on its bug type moves and trying to put you in a corner.
Bug Type
the nerd idea is wonderful but we should give them a name so I propose to use Antonio
his team could be Surskit like you said but, I have a better idea.
He gives you a speech about how sometimes strategy is greater than brute strength as he sends out his first pokemon, Masquerain with Intimidate as its ability, it would show off the wide range of TMs that it has access to in its moveset by carrying Blizzard, Giga Drain, Stun Spore, and Roost it may not have stab but it won't matter because it'll be able to catch you by surprise if you come in expecting to sweep the Gym with Swellow or Altaria
Second up is Shedinja using its broken ability and moves designed to put you at a disadvantage Antonio's goal will be to make you think about how you're going to beat him before you even start the quiz.
This would allow the trainer to catch pokemon like Heracross, Venomoth, Butterfree, and Beedrill even if they don't have FireRed and LeafGreen within this area you'll also be able to find the mythical Jirachi in the post game at the Wisher's Rest this event won't be accessible until after you've beaten the Elite 4 (this gives the player the ability to actually use pokemon that are in the Hoene dex but for some reason or another are nearly impossible to find in the wild normally)
the fairy gym I agree with everything you said but, I'd add an additional twist where the gym will actually be placed right next door to the Pokemon Daycare, and you'll be greeted by Mr.
Naming my next Swablu/Altaria Toby for SURE now. LOLL XD
I wish there was a ground type elite four member because then they would have to give flygon a mega
Except they wouldn't need to, just give it Swampert as the ace.
I appreciate the BotW footage, you Zelda fan you!
I need to know where you got that Psyduck hoodie. I need it in my life...
The hideout master as a ground type gym leader? I wouldn’t mind that at all.

Team rocket double battle for poison type?????
Thank you for the episode.
bird keeper toby james koffing evolved a long time ago in to weezing so jessie would be using weezing and not koffing in the poison gym
Where did you get that cool psyduck hoodie?
BKT: “This would replace the 3rd or 4th gym badge”
Me 1 minute later: “Yeah, at worst, Flygon is the 2nd strongest gym Pokemon... no way you put it that early”
The Fairy Gym was perfect
For every one of these videos, I forget Fossil is my fan type for a moment.

6th yes but that mommy movie is remake of a original black and white movie
The whole ground-type gym is a mirage thats why it doesn’t exist
I guess?
Hoenn is still relevant....
Dont we have to count E4 types too? If gyms change over time, maybe E4 members were not in any moment in time, or maybe they were gym leaders before or something like that. To count all 18 types
Well in Hoenn we know there was once a Fire Type Elite 4 member, as Flannery said her grandfather was once an E4 member.
MandJTV made a video about if he were a Gym Leader, and one of them was a Grass type leader in Fortree City. Check it out
Poochyena on route 1 for shedinja as well

Where's "Jessibelle's" Arbok?
Arbok is kanto and he wanted to focus on hoenn mons where possible so seviper
@@Wurmze and yet she has (James') Koffin
But toby verdanturf is the perfect place for a grass gym I mean verdant means green @BirdkeeperToby and fortree has a gym already
Nothing in Pacific Log Town?
SHAME!
