I think an interesting location for the normal type gym would be the Safari Zone. I would put it right after Fuchsia City Gym. You have to venture through the Safari Zone to get to the gym, as it’s the only place you can get access to the HM for Strength because the leader of the gym is: the Safari Zone Warden. He got tired of sitting around Fuchsia City doing nothing but watching over the Safari Zone, so he decided to turn it into a natural gym, like Toby did for his bug gym. He’s got four Pokémon on his team: Chansey and Snorlax to challenge you with a couple of bulky Pokémon at the start. If you get through those, than he hits you with the powerhouses that roam the Safari Zone: Kanghaskan and his ace Tauros. If you beat him he gives you the Safari Badge and the HM for strength.

Fun video, the only thing i would consider is using the houndoom line in the dark gym, it's a 2nd gen mon (as dark was introduced in the second generation) but even in gold and silver that line was only found in kanto as wild pokemon so they should be considered as kanto native Pokémon

I really love the idea that all of these minor, inconsequential characters from around the Kanto region would eventually grow up to take prominent spots amongst the Gym roster, and you implemented them in a way that makes perfect sense for a lot of them (I especially love the idea of the Magikarp Salesman and the Copycat Girl becoming the Dark and Fairy Leaders, respectively). Great job on this, Toby!

  • @Kaiser00Wilhelm
    @Kaiser00Wilhelm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I think another possibility for a normal type gym leader would be to steal from the Striaton gym from Black and White. This gym would be in Pallet Town and would be the most brutal first gym ever, so maybe you'd have to come back to it in order to beat it, but basically, the gym trainer would have an Eevee and then all three Kanto Eevelutions. However, they would only use the Eeveelution that your starter is weak to (Jolteon for Squirtle, etc.) This gym would technically be multiple types, which would explain its presence in the canvas of Pallet Town.

My idea for the missing types are special gym leaders called “Hidden Gym Leaders”. Unlike the regular leaders, they don’t have gyms cities, but in natural landmarks of their regions. They are sort of out of the way, which makes them hidden, but the award for finding them is great.
My Bug gym leader rules over Viridian Forest, and is mostly inspired by the Samurai that Ash battled in the anime. His trainers are all bug catchers, and his team consists of Metapod, Venonat, and Pinsir.
My flying gym leader has a gym near Cerulean Cape, which has the best views of the sky in Kanto. Battling theough bird trainers allows you tomfight a gym leader who i havent thought of much yet, but has Pidgeotto, Fearow, and Doduo.
The Steel one is located at the Power Plant, and the leader is a former employee of said plant before it was shut down. He has a Magnemite, an Alolan Dugtrio, and a Magneton.
For the dark gym, it is in the Rock Tunnel, as it is the only place where flash is needed in Kanto. You battle through several mean trainers like cue balls, bikers, and maybe a few grunts until you encounter a man from Alola who is running a crime team not as poweful as team rocket. His team consists of Rticate, Persian, and Muk, all Alolan.
The hidden normal gym is located on Route 1, the most unassuming place to find a gym. After progressing through thr game for a bit, you can find a younger who will guide you to where the gym is located, and you battle the leader who has a regular raticate, Kangaskhan, and Chancey.
And lastly, the hidden gym of the fairy types is in Mt. Moon. The gym leader here is named Lunette, and she is a girl from Kalos who came to Kanto to show fairy types to the region. Her team consists of Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff, Clefable, and lastly Sylveon to connect to both Kanto and her Kalosian roots.

Shudo was obsessed with the adult world and giving kids ways to learn valuable adult lessons to appreciate their childhood. He often went against the pokemon company's idea of the pokemon world. Including the idea of more than 8 badges. As Gen 2 came out and they saw the franchise was going to expand beyond 2 games. They reigned in a lot of what the brand did.

Well, here is the thing, I feel like Kanto and Johto are connected. Both are smaller regions that share the same league and canonically, you would probably only need 8 over all badges. At least, that's what I would think. And I'm sure there might be other gyms that we wouldn't see because there are probably towns we wouldn't see. Of course, I think Kanto's fighting gym just lost it's right.

  • @Dusxio
    @Dusxio 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I got an interesting idea for the dark type gym for Kanto: A research lab who focus on ecology and regional variances. It might even be the pokemon professor for your starting town rather than Oak. So he's imported the dark type ratatta, grimers and meowths as part of his research, and also uses them in the mid to late game battle. Probably third gym so he doesn't just need multiples. The gym trainers would only have one variant, and the local version on their team.
For a higher level gym, give him an umbreon and mega-gyarados (of the feature is in the game) as well.

The Viridian town idea works on SO MANY different levels. Especially considering that the Indigo Plateau is just a stroll away. Given that the Indigo Plateau is perceived to be this heavily desired, and therefore, trafficked endpoint, it would only make sense for the neighboring town, be forced to become more developed. Also, having Satoshi be the gym leader while it is a town, is just another layer that makes this work SO WELL. Given his perceived sadness upon him not being able to hunt for bugs as easily because of the land becoming more developed. That would be a great meta moment if ever implemented. Not sure if it was intentional. Either way, good job dude's.

Personally I believe that Johto and Kanto basically share a league, one piece of evidence being the shared elite 4 (even if the champion had changed from Blue to Lance between gen 1 and gen 2) as well as the gyms across both regions don’t overlap on typings.

All he needs to do is leave a recording of his instructions and his Pokémon do the rest a from battling challengers to handing out badges to winners. A testament to Green’s phenomenal ability to train both Pokémon and people to be the best they can be.

I think a notable thing is that while there are no native dark types shown in the kanto games, Murkrow is native to Kanto. Irl it was introduced in Gold and Silver, but it actually can't be found within the Johto region, but rather in the post game when you go to Kanto. I believe the same thing is true of Houndour and Houndoom. So while these are all gen 2 Pokemon, they're not necessarily "Johto" pokemon, but rather Kanto Pokemon that we just happen to not have encountered in the first game. So a dark type gym in Kanto could potentially have those three pokemon in it.

Heh. I thought this was going to talk about how they found either concept art or was it beta sprites? I can't remember but basically there was a nameless kid labeled as a Gym Leader they found and it led to speculation that he was originally going to head Viridian Gym before they changed the idea to make it the last gym. Or maybe talk more about what the Fighting Gym might have been like before they got kicked out and reduced to a single room dojo.
That said, I love the idea for the Bug, Flying and Fairy gyms you put out. I also like the idea of putting a Gym in the square that old man has been stomping flat but maybe not for steel type. Maybe in a future Kanto the types in each town might have gotten rearranged instead of just switching out some for the unused types.
Maybe in a future Kanto, someone could have built on Cinnabar again now that the volcano has settled into new land and life is moving forward. Silph Co may have produced a lot of things, but Cinnabar was the heart of Kanto's thirst for discovery with the labs and the mansion and the former gym leader was clearly a researcher. So naturally they may have been the ones to discover the Steel Type. The Gym Leader could have had a Magnemite and Magneton (because Kanto is notorious for multiples or the same species or all of the same family), a Steelix, a Scissor and maybe a case where the last one (not the Ace obviously) is something not actually a Steel Type but has Steel moves. Or could be one of the Fossil Pokemon as a throwback to the island's glory days and the maybe a Trainer or local drops the fun fact the leader found the fossil unrevived in the rubble. Would be cool to have the Gym on the ruins of either the lab or the mansion.
Considering how Celadon is, I wouldn't be surprised if the Dark Gym was there. A sort of shady business going on with the bikers in the area and the casino / Rocket base and as others have pointed out, the leader could have an Umbreon, Houndour, Honchkrow, and by your rules maybe an Alolan Muk since they point out in the games that Celadon has a serious pollution problem.
Normal, I think I have to agree with others here that a Gym themed around the Safari Zone would be cool with Tauros and Kangaskhan and Chansey and probably Snorlax.

For the normal type gym being in pallet town I'd think it'd be a cool idea to play with the name some more, making it the 8th gym with 6 normal Pokemon all with a different secondary types , bringing in that thought of different colors on a pallet

I think it would be interesting to play a Kanto game where you play as someone other than Red or variant, someone from another town in Kanto, which would be a fun spin on things.
Like, what about starting in Saffron, or some other city, maybe an island? How would this affect the gym order, and start of your adventure?

My idea for the dark type gym would be that it is located on route 7. As you enter or exit the underground bypass tunnel you notice that there appears to be a new doorway which you have never seen before. You enter expecting maybe to see a new expansion of the tunnels going on only to find a room filled with game-corner slot machines. As you talk and battle several of the patrons you learn that the Celadon City game corner was closed down because parents were upset that they allowed underage children to gamble and because it was discovered to have connections to Team Rocket. You also hear the story or how a ship transporting endangered Pokémon from the Johto Region to the Safari Zone crashed of the coast just outside Celadon near the cycling road a few years back. You finally find your way to the back of the gym and see a man sitting on a couch watching the patrons from an above balcony.
You make your way up their and talk to the man. He says that a few years ago he was banned from the Celadon game-corner for being caught handing out coin purses to underage kids. Disgruntled and mad that he could no longer indulge his vices he went for a walk down route 7 when he discovered two new Pokémon which he had never seen in the Kanto region before. Shortly their after the game corner closed down after the Team Rockets base was discovered below and all the machines were moved into a storage room in the underground tunnels. Using his newly caught Pokémon he broke into the room and secretly set up and converted it into a new game-corner.
You battle him and he sends out a Houndour, than a Murkrow, and then his ace Houndoom. Upon winning he hands you the TM containing Thief and a coin purse so you can enjoy a little gambling yourself, so long as you don't tell the cops.

I would use the Copycat girl for the Normal gym instead. Her team would include a Fearow with Mirror Move, a Chansey with Mimic, an Impostor Ditto and a Wigglytuff with, of course, Copycat! Also a Porygon with Conversion might also be a good Pokémon for this... Basically, a ton of moves that copy stuff!

I have a headcannon where 5 years after the original games there's a new Dark type gym up north between Cerulean and Pewter city.
The town is cliffside that is always in the dark as the sun rises and sets in front of the town, so the cliff were all the houses, gym, ect. is always encroached in darkness.
The leader in my headcannon is a Witch Doctor who is one of the original inhabitants of the area. The gym would be the 7th or 8th gym, and would only be accessible when you get the HM for Rock Climb. When you can access the town there's a little girl who tells you the town used to be overran with evil spirits, but the witch doctor made them all into a pokemon, somehow. The little girl tells you that the gym is at the bottom of the cliffside, and you need to bring items for potions and other natural medicines as an offering. These items being 1 Rare Bone, an Iapapa and Roseli berry, 1 Bitter Herb, and a Never Melt Ice.
Once you have gathered your requested offering the gym leader Ahmya (which means both Dark Rain and at the bottom of the cliff- where her gym resides.) Will forge two items from your offering: a Never Broken Bone and a Bitter Berry Tart. Using these two items you have to figure out how to use them in the gym puzzle. The Bone will be used to break down entrances that have been boarded up, and the Tart will be given to a wild Slaking that is blocking the midpoint of the gym.
Ahmya has a pokemon team inspired by the practice of herbal medicine and potion making. Her team consists of a Murkrow (a forager), Shuckle (a cauldron for brews and elixirs), Houndoom (her familiar), Alolan Marowak (reminds me of a witch doctor), and her ace is a Spiritomb (the evil spirits she banished from the land).
Once you've beaten Ahmya she will award you with the Apothecary badge, which looks like a skeleton hand offering a blue elixir of some kind, and the TM for Nightmare. While yes, Nightmare is a ghost type move her Marowak and Spiritomb both use it, so that's the TM you receive. If your looking for extra handouts, the little girl who led you to the gym will resupply the items you used as an offering for the gym, and an additional item... probably an Odd Keystone.

in this hypothetical pre-gen 1 game I would offer a suggestion of the young oak being a travelling partner or rival of some sort and since when Oak was young the pokedex didn't exist perhaps when you encounter or catch a new pokemon a ''sketch'' is shown as you're informed on the info of the pokemon and that sketch is one of Samuel Oaks and it comes out like the ken sugimori art

Normal - For the normal type gym, I would have Daisy Oak in Pallet Town. Her ace would be Chansey (a Pokémon she had in the manga). I would also give her Snorlax. Both are bulky Pokémon with high hp. To round out her team, I would give her Pidgeotto and Raticate. Pidgey and Ratatta are the main Pokémon you encounter leaving Pallet, so it seems reasonable that she would have them. She would have one of those gyms you can't challenge until you have a certain number of badges.
Bug - For the bug gym, I would have Samurai. His gym would be somewhere in or around Viridian Forest. His ace would be Pinsir. (Possibly with the capability to mega evolve.) He would also have Butterfree and Beedrill.
Fairy - While I don't have a specific person in mind to act as leader, I would put the fairy type gym at the base of My. Moon. The gym leader's ace would be Mr. Mime, with Clefairy and Jigglypuff to back it up.
Dark - I would put the dark type gym in the anime exclusive location Neon Town. My reasoning for this is that it seems like the kind of location you would find seedy characters. The gym leader would be a member (or former member) of Team Rocket. His ace would be a Houndoom, as in Gold and Silver, Houndour can actually only be found on route 7. (Route 7 being between Saffron and Celadon, where Team Rocket presence is highest.) I would also give him an Alolan Persian, as I think the pair works together, asthetically. Finally, I would give him a pair of Murkrow as, like Houndour, they can be found on Route 7.
Steel - For the steel type gym leader, I would have Luna, of the anime exclusive Commerce City. Her ace would obviously be Scizor. To back it up, she would also have Steelix, as well as the entire Magnemite evolutionary line.
Flying - While I don't have a location or a leader in mind for the flying type gym, I think I would definitely pick Dodrio as the ace. It would be backed up by a Fearow, a Pidgeotto and a Farfetch'd.

I'd put a fairy gym at the end of Mt Moon, since it's the home of the original fairy Pokémon, even before the type even existed!
I mean, there is even a kind of fairy ring in GSC when you visit Kanto and you can see Clefairy dancing during the night.
It would be an early gym due to its location (maybe gym 3 after you beat misty and can access the place again) , with an Jigglypuf, Clefairy and an Clafable as the Ace.
The whole gym could be some kind of enclosure to the usual dancing spot of the Clefairys, very mystical, one with nature and a lot of celestial influences like moon and star patterns. Funny twist, you can only battle the gym leader at night when the moon is in the sky.
The leader would be an airy headed girl who's happy to just dance with her fairy Pokémon, but shows her true powers in battle.
The TM would be draining kiss and the badge would be the moon badge or celestial badge.
    Thanks for inspiring me!
I've watched the video on my break from work and came up with that idea in the spot!
Keep up creating such amazing videos!

I think a normal type gym leader could go in Saffron as another competitor for the gym position there. In competitive play in gen 1, Psychic types were ridiculously overpowered, and the only thing that kept them in check were the strongest Normal types - Snorlax, Chansey, and Tauros.
The only Pokemon that are as good as those in competitive play are Exeggutor, Mew, and Mewtwo, and Tauros specifically was second only to Mewtwo. Those three alone are enough to make any other NPC team cower in fear, but I would add in Porygon to suggest a connection to Silph Co.
This would also make a neat sort of triangle of power in Saffron - Psychic types beat Fighting types, Fighting types are super-effective against Normal types, and strong Normal types are your best bet against Psychic types (at least in Gen 1).

I really love your ideas for the missing gyms and how much thought you put into them. What about for a Dark (or maybe even Steel) type gym that area where the random truck is in Vermillion Port and that they either turn the truck somehow into a gym or the gym leader battles from the truck bed? It could also beg the question of how the person got the truck there and you might be asking “How the Steel/Dark typing?” Well, because maybe the truck was stolen or placed there as some sort of prank and the leader was a thug that either took it or put it there. They might even have taken a ship over to the region and stumbled upon it and set up camp there and may even have Pokémon that aren’t native to Kanto of either of those typings. Dark type is obvious but in this case the Steel typing would be a play off the stealing aspect if they did swoop in and steal the truck. I dunno just thinking out loud. Curious to hear other people’s thoughts on this. Lol

I am only going to do Bug, Normal, and Steel
Bug Gym- so I also like the idea of Erica's gym becoming like a Botanical garden, but instead it has become bug-infested. This leader would show some love to Scyther and Pinsir since they don't get enough love in gen 1 at all. The leader would also have the fully evolved Weedle and Caterpie line. This may not be a gen 1 move, but Bug Bite will be the TM
Normal Gym- This would also be a mid-game gym that I think could be set in Fuschia, given that the safari zone has interesting normal types. That said, I think the Ace for this gym would be Lickitung or Kangaskhan and then a Persian for some speedy revenge killing. Finally, it will have a Wigglytuff for some type coverage against fighting types. Fakeout for the TM
Steel Gym- Also in Vermillion City the Gym leader will be a sailor/Captain who recently returned from a long voyage to distant pokemon lands. They will have Galarian Meowth and honestly, I think Perserker would be good here too, buuuut I'll keep as gen 1 proper as possible. Additionally, he will have Alolan Sandshrew line. Metal Claw would be the TM

I've always liked the idea of Team Rocket (or maybe Team Skull post-SuMo) taking over parts of Kanto but with more emphasis on Dark type pokemon. So when they'd attempt to take over Saffron City, the Fighting dojo would rise to the occasion to beat them back as Sabrina would have type disadvantage against the new villains. Allowing the dojo to form a Fighting gym again in Saffron City.

I kinda solved this, using the 'style' of Orange League, Alola and Galar
I was generalist of Viridian and the sub-gym was Dark
Cinnabar was still Fire with the sub-gym using Eeveelutions
Lavender Town had (the Sandshrew guy) and Duplica both using their 'solo' Pokémon styles

I think that another great idea for the Steel gym is that the Machop trained so hard while clearing that plot of land that it learned Bullet Punch and became a Machoke or Machamp and is now the ace Pokémon. Although they aren’t steel types, it still fits the theme 😁

i like your normal type gym,but i think a big problem with it is the amount of pokémon used by the gym leader,so i decided to put my own idea:
A great area for a normal gym would be the safari zone, since most of the strong normal types are found there. The gym leader could be the guy that gives you hm surf, even though surf is a water type move, most normal types learn it, so it still works. His team would be mostly filled with safari zone normal types, mainly ones that can learn surf: Tauros and Kangaskhan.
But since two pokémon aren't enough,i would put Chansey(from the safari zone) and Snorlax(can learn surf).
The gym puzzle could be related to the safari zone, being a catching contest, just like the bug catching contest, but with normal types instead of bugs, but unlike the bcc(bug catching contest) you wouldn't keep the pokémon caught. And of course, after you beat the gym leader, he would give you the hm surf
Sorry if this coment is too long,i get a little carried away when writing my ideas
(was edited because of a spelling mistake)

There's something I wanted to see for a long time. A nature for every pokemon Ash has owned that matches it's "stats" and personality. For example pikachu should have like a defense buffing and a speed debuff nature
