I found several series on the Featherweights and on the 301. I'm finding that the vintage machines are so much easier to use and maintain. I love you too! God bless.

Hi Janna, I'm Melissa. Brenda is my buddy who designed the potato chip block. These blocks are addicting and a great way to use up scraps. Thanks for watching!
New Subscriber ... Any thoughts for making this a "Quilt As You Go?" I've started cutting my scraps 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" and was happy to see both solids and prints in your quilt as well as the many layout possibilities to achieve secondary patterns. Thanks for the inspiration and any suggestions you may have.
There is no way to construct the Potato Chip block as a QAYG but you could certainly layer your block, batting and backing and quilt them before quilt assembly. Thanks for watching and subscribing, Glasslight!
I rarely use solids in my quilts, but I really like the effect they give to this quilt. I have a jelly roll of solid brights I wasn't sure how to use...I do now! Thanks!
I’m usually not a fan of solids either but I find them useful when I have “too much of a good thing”… as much as I love my bright colors and bold patterns. Sometimes your eyes need a place to rest. Thanks for watching, Marty!
Love the potato chip block. I’ve been making quilts with this block for 20 years. I use 2” x 3-1/2” bricks, so I do another round to get mine to 12-1/2” square. Am enjoying your videos (I subscribed!). Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for watching, subscribing and your sweet comment, Parker! I like the 2.5 x 4.5 pieces and have made other blocks with them too. Very versitile.
Hi. I think this block is really effective and the quilt looks great. This is the first time you tube has nudged me your way and I am looking forward to seeing more. We are warm and humid here in New Zealand. You wrap up and I will be in shorts and a T shirt. Happy Xmas and New Year.
Stumbled upon your channel! New sub!! 💕 your content. Very enjoyable to watch! Thank you! (Potato chip blocks are in my future for using up some scraps)😊
I’m so afraid to start putting fabrics together like you did! Mine would look horrible but I sure do like this type of scrappy quilt! I subscribed ❤ first time I’ve been able to catch you on my feed…
Go for it, Brenda! Yours will be beautiful, any scrap quilt is beautiful. Please don't think that. Try it, they work up so quickly. Thanks for subscribing, Merry Christmas.
Hi Michelle, thanks for watching. I saw the softer version in a private Facebook group called Pola Quilting with Friends. I adore 30s fabrics and have tons of them. I think I may make one with those too. Right now I'm working on a rainbow version that gets chopped up and disappeared!
Hi Melissa love the quilt will be going through my hugh basket of scraps mine will most likely not look like yours. What size would be a good one for a childs quil? GOD BLESS
Thanks for watching, Malgorzata! I would think that 4 x 5 layout (48" x 60") would be good for a baby/small child. You can always refer to bed sheet sizes to give you an idea of how big a twin/queen/king bed is and then add on however much drape you want on the sides.
I cut my Potato Chips from my scraps. This is a fun block to sew. All the videos that TH-cam is offering me from 70 Acres Studio are over a year old. Are you still making videos?
Where did you get that 1/4” foot? I’ve tried a couple of different ones that are supposed to work on a Featherweight but they don’t. Yours looks like it works perfectly. Nice to have found you.
It is nice to meet you, Margo, thanks for watching! When I want to be sure the item will work/fit, I get it from singer-featherweight.com/. However, they are pricey, so sometimes I get a good look of the item on their site and then pop over to eBay to find a matching item cheaper. Case in point, I got an original Singer walking foot for my Singer 301 on eBay for $20.
Thanks for watching, Hanley! Not sure what your age is but if you are over 40 you may remember the Lays Potato Chip commercials where they say "I bet you can't eat just one"... These blocks are so addicting, the designer thought you can't make just one block!
Yes, Cathy, the size of the pieces are 2.5 x 4.5. If you like to work tiny, there are smaller sizes you can use also. I just learned that 1.5 x 2.5 also works and the created of the block makes them 2.5 x 3.5 and those work too. I draw it out to see if the sizes work cause I don't math!
Brand new subscriber here. Love your potato chips quilt. Does anyone think adding sashing would make those "chips" pop? If quilt as you go could work, I would love this for my only great granddaughter. Merry Christmas to all of you. Ms Karin
Welcome, Karin!! Merry Christmas to you as well. I've seen them with sashing and if the blocks are real scrappy, I think the sashing breaks up the scrappy field of fun. I am currently doing these in rainbow colors and a black sashing would make them explode! You'll have to keep watching to see what i do with them!
Just happened to see a little side box on you tube saying “Potato Chip” and I clicked on it….I LOVE CHIPS! 😂But I watched the video even tho it had nothing to do with eating or making Potato chips….I LOVE THIS QUILT! Can you please let me know the sizes of the pieces to cut so I can make one after I finish this bag of chips and wash my hands!😂 good luck at the surgeon…I have subscribed, have a Merry Christmas.
LOL, I'm so glad you found me and thank you for subscribing. The pieces are 2.5" x 4.5" and if you go to the oldest video in my Potato Chip playlist you will see a graphic in the video showing how the blocks go together. th-cam.com/video/dn14o0RrtJQ/w-d-xo.html Warning, they are as addicting as the real thing so just watch out! At least there's no calories and, I mean, sewing is excersize, right?
There was a commercial for Lays potato chips claiming "I bet you can't eat just one!". The saying has since been used to describe something that is really good and you will eat/buy/make more than one! These blocks are addicting and work up really fast and the sweet lady that came up with the design named the block Potato Chip Blocks. youtube.com/@ConqueringMountScrapmoreWithBrenda
@@70acres Thank you! I find your instructions much clearer for my beginner level of quilting. I have no scraps yet but you've inspired me to convert a handful of fat quarters into potato chip blocks 😄
@@emihayashi7725 I am so very happy to hear that, Emi! Consider going to your local thrift store and look for men/women's cotton or linen clothing. Also look in the bedding department for cotton sheets. There is a ton of fabric to be had there! I have a video showing how to break down men's dress shirts for quilting a Potato Chip block!🥰🥰
Thanks for watching, Tina. The Singer Featherweight and Singer 301 are electric machines. They are amazing workhorses and if you keep the lint out and oil them regularly, they will last forever. I have a new to me 1950's White Rotary machine in turquoise that will be delivered the end of the month by a subscriber. She's driving 16 hours to get here and we're going to spend a few days enjoying our visit. I can't wait to show off this new machine!
I have a playlist with all my potato chip projects. It is a quilt block designed by my buddy Brenda, from www.youtube.com/@ConqueringMountScrapmoreWithBrenda . The name comes from the Lays potato chip commerical; "I bet you can't eat just one!" Meaning they are so addictive you want to eat/make more and more. These quilts work up incredibly fast and are perfect for chain piecing.

The pieces are 2.5" x 4.5" and if you go to the oldest video in my Potato Chip playlist you will see a graphic in the video showing how the blocks go together. th-cam.com/video/dn14o0RrtJQ/w-d-xo.html
Warning, they are as addicting as the real thing so just watch out! At least there's no calories and, I mean, sewing is excersize, right?
What make it a potato chip block? Never heard that term before. 🤭
@@70acres I wasn't able to reach the link, is it still available?

@@70acres Thank you! I find your instructions much clearer for my beginner level of quilting. I have no scraps yet but you've inspired me to convert a handful of fat quarters into potato chip blocks 😄
@@emihayashi7725 I am so very happy to hear that, Emi! Consider going to your local thrift store and look for men/women's cotton or linen clothing. Also look in the bedding department for cotton sheets. There is a ton of fabric to be had there! I have a video showing how to break down men's dress shirts for quilting a Potato Chip block!🥰🥰
What is the name of the rotary blade tool?
Thanks for watching, Pink! The thread cutter? It is called a Blade Saver. Here is the link: amzn.to/3Y3fG7z
Did I miss the size of the chip? 21/2. X ? ……🤔
These bricks are 2.5" x 4.5". Thanks for watching!🥰
Is that a Treàdle machine
Thanks for watching, Tina. The Singer Featherweight and Singer 301 are electric machines. They are amazing workhorses and if you keep the lint out and oil them regularly, they will last forever. I have a new to me 1950's White Rotary machine in turquoise that will be delivered the end of the month by a subscriber. She's driving 16 hours to get here and we're going to spend a few days enjoying our visit. I can't wait to show off this new machine!
Hi Melissa
Hi Karen! Thanks for watching.
OK NOW i UNDERSTAND i CAN'T MAKE JUST ONE
😊😁😘And, you can't! I've just designed my next one!
I’m on my third and planning more, lol.
Where do you live, I live in Clarksville, Tennessee
I'm high in the mountains in the very Northwest corner of North Carolina in Ashe County.
I had a cat that used to lie behind my sewing machine while I sewed and would snooze like it was his bed…..
I do enjoy kitties so much. Thanks for watching, Mickey!
WHAT IS A POTATO CHIP BLOCK
I have a playlist with all my potato chip projects. It is a quilt block designed by my buddy Brenda, from www.youtube.com/@ConqueringMountScrapmoreWithBrenda . The name comes from the Lays potato chip commerical; "I bet you can't eat just one!" Meaning they are so addictive you want to eat/make more and more. These quilts work up incredibly fast and are perfect for chain piecing.
Nowhere to subscribe
There is a Subscribe button under the video on your computer. There is a subscribe button below the video on your phone as well. If you are watching on a TV you pause the video and arrow up to see the options (back, forward, play, etc) and I believe you would then arrow right to get to the options on the right corner and there you can arrow on to each one to see which one is the subscribe button.
