I made several patriotic potato chip quilts with red in the center, white on round two, and blue on round three. You can use plenty of fabric scraps and minimize the actual amount of patriotic fabric needed. Having the second round in a specific color gives the eyes a place to rest and l highly recommend this tip.
I really like this block. It would make a great scrappy quilt. I've heard it called the 'potato chip' block. You can't make just one. Thank you for your video. 🙂♥️
Oh! the Potato Chip Block! I thought I recognized it... such a fun block to make. You could also use low volume fabrics on the inner rows for a fun twist.
I am loving your videos and blocks. I have one humble request and that is to include the size of your intended finished block and the dimensions of your squares in the description. ❤️
❤ my favorite block. I call it the potato chip block. I use it to make dozens of charity quilts. I use denim from old jeans and flannel shirts. It doesn’t require a lot of finishing, and maybe I’ll see in on some homeless person. Jo Ann😊😊
Jo Parrott published this block design in her 2010 book "Favorite Traditional Quilts Made Easy". That book is available thru Amazon, as well as "Big Book of Scrappy Quilts", a compilation, which also includes the block. This information was included in the March 5 video "Scrappy Rectangles" by Inspired Quilting by Lea Louise. It's fun to track it back as far as we can--who knows how long quilters have been enjoying it! Everyone adds new interest, but Conquering Mount Scrapmore made it famous! The Cut and Create video uses such lovely fabrics and her block turned out so beautifully. I will be back for more.
Thank you for showing this tutorial. I'm going to use my little scraps up and see how it turns out. I really enjoy all your videos but rarely make a comment. Best wishes. Maggie J. from England.
So excellent, I'm now completely inspired to do this. I have the usual zillion scraps (that will be my goto) but, what fabric did you use? Also really very pretty! So glad I found you. - I'm drawn to the less "complexicated", I love the joy and beauty of the simpler blocks - Churndash is a favorite (but i also love Sister's Choice 😊). Have a very pretty day! ❤ Abigail, in beautiful New Hampshire
I’m new to quilting and find that I suck at joining so that the points meet perfectly. I think I would like this. Would love to see it just all one piece and also doing the blocks and maybe adding a solide color to join.
Great block! Do you find the seam guide you are using to be very helpful? Maintaining a proper quarter inch seam is so important for blocks with lots of pieces.
Beautiful block. I notice you didn't follow the traditional Courthouse steps color distribution = North & South steps are dark fabrics and East & West steps are light fabrics. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out the "Broken" steps idea. 🙃
I’m going to make this but to make more than 1 block it into a quilt should I use washing between blocks or just sew the blocks together? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Did you say you can just keep adding this size piece(s) to make a larger block than you have here? I’d love this to be a table topper too! Also, I cannot find this pattern on Pinterest. Is there a way to link it? TIA
Add to it by 3 down left, 3 down right, 4 across top, 4 across bottom which makes 16 inch finished square Continue by adding 1 to each of above numbers and 4 to resulting square
I have been searching on Pinterest also. The only quilt that looks just like this they call it potato chips quilt. I still haven’t found the pattern for that one lol
Did you say 2-1/2 by 4-1/2 rectangles. I hope so 😅. I have a whole bunch leftovers to make quite a few of these blocks. Looks like fun, just as soon as I get my household goods moved.😊
Thank you so much. I am new to your channel and love what you are doing. I cannot seem to find the posted picture. Is it someplace like Facebook?@@CutandCreate
You should review your recording before posting. Everytime you switch back to the machine there is a terrible glare for a few seconds. That glare is annoying and hurts my eyes. I like the pattern alot.

Yes I’ve heard that too!💙💜
Love this block! I’m going to start building a box of 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 scraps and just cut them as the scraps appear.
Great idea! The cutting of these all at once was a lot💙
Glad I am not the only one block wonder😊 I like to chain piece but if do too many, I find myself off in wonderland🤦🏻♀️Very pretty
Same💙💜
I like this type of quilt. It looks fast and easy, and I don’t line the seams up, like in traditional quilts. Thanks for sharing

You make this look so easy. I have a lot of 21/2 inch strips and can start cutting them out and use them as leaders and Enders. Thanks for the video.

This potato chip block has taken on a life of it's own. I hope you have a great day!
it certainly has, Brenda. Bet you didn't expect this when you created this block.
Hi Brenda
I think this block would look great with black sashing. Definetly making some of these blocks. Thank you for the inspiration!
💛💛
The blocked turned out so nice. Looks great. Love the colors. 😊
Thank you!🧡

My church group made a similar one that we called Crayon Box though outside rows had one seam each. Tyfs 🩷
I’ll have to look that one up❤️
I’m new to quilting and find that I suck at joining so that the points meet perfectly. I think I would like this. Would love to see it just all one piece and also doing the blocks and maybe adding a solide color to join.

Love it

Thank you, yes I do find it helpful 💜
Thanks 🥰👌

I’ve never seen anyone sew with their needle all the way to the left before. What is your reason for doing so? Just curious.

I would not use sashing I would just turn every other block do that still no seams match up🩵
Did you say you can just keep adding this size piece(s) to make a larger block than you have here? I’d love this to be a table topper too! Also, I cannot find this pattern on Pinterest. Is there a way to link it? TIA

Yes just keep going around by adding a block to each side💛

I love the block, but you could've eliminated half the time by not showing every piece sewn. speed it up a little.....thanks though!
Thank you🧡 I could have but I’ve had more requests to leave it in that to take it out!
