Thanks Karen my scrap box is large and I’m going to try a version of your quilt I don’t have access to paper tape however I’m going to try well done the quilt is quite an achievement it’s beautiful
Now I am 82 and I have the tape, and a lg. basket of scraps. So I have decided that when I have finished all of my ufos I will do this. LOL. Maybe this will be the one I take to the nursing home? The last project. Have a good day Karen. 🤎ya . From Texes.
Karen has shown how a bite at a time with persistence you can eat a whole wedding cake and create a Masterpiece! You can talk yourself out of something but you can also talk yourself into it. Just make your current goal realistic. In my 60's I bought a retaining wall "kit". Then I could not find anyone to hire. I worked on it for 15 mins at a time and now it's finished and gorgeous!
Well done, Karen! Many sewists wouldn't bother keeping such small pieces of fabric, but look what you've made out of nothing at all! Imagine all of the warmth that sewists could provide if they all did this.
I remember when you started the adding tape strips, it was a long, long time ago. It looks brilliant you must be delighted how it’s turned out and so glad it’s finally finished. I’m sure looking at all the fabrics must bring a huge amount of memories and emotions.
Absolutely beautiful result of years of patient sewing. I especially like your idea of the narrow sashing as a way to attach the crumb strips together. Just enough width to allow cohesion without diminishing the impact of the crumbs. Inspirational. Thanks for sharing the finished quilt.
Yes, I thought the narrow sashing strip was a really smart way to join the strips together and I like that she used the same fabric throughout for cohesion. Very nice.
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts THAT is hilarious! i.e. "OK Mom, that ticker tape project is getting a little bit too tickery silli-ickery for us, come on down from the mountain top and back to reality!"

That is an amazing quilt. With the sun going through it, it almost looked like stained glass. I love the small sashing strips which helped unify it. Thanks for sharing the process with us.
This is a wonderful, colorful, memorable quilt, Karen! You keep and use so many of your small scraps. I usually get rid of any scraps smaller than 2”. We have a wonderful recycling program, Ridwell, which has a category called “Threads”, which will take fabric scraps. So I bundle them into a worn out zip lock bag and toss them in the bag. But now perhaps I’ll start keeping even the smaller ones…. Thanks for another fabulous, informative video!
I'm using a similar method to construct shopping bags by using a base fabric to stitch and flip strips. I no longer keep scraps but constantly process them for later use. Anything 1 inch and up is fair game. It means my auntie gift shop is always well stocked for gifts.
Absolutely STUPENDOUS!!! From a distance, when we can see the entire quilt top, those neutral sashing strips are virtually invisible. Well done in EVERY respect! 🤗💖🎶💐
Oh wow! Karen, that is truly SPECTACULAR! What an epic quilt. Your perseverance is admirable. I love all things "scrappy", from crumbs to granny squares made with yarn. This quilt epitomises the frugal aspect of quilting's humble beginnings. 🙏
The enormity of this leaves me in awe. First of all, it takes a lot of projects to get that many scraps. Then to do a king size quilt out of nothing but scraps and crumbs is monumental. Just wow.
Hi Karen, I just wanted to let you know that I think that this is the most gorgeous scrap quilt that I ever seen. I love everything about it. I have been subscribed to your channel and I’be been watching your videos. I am a new quilter, working on my first quilt. I’m making the 6 inch size of Moda Blockheads 5. I love this quilt so much. It may be my favorite of all the ones I’ve seen you make. It’s so my style! I’ve been making scrap strips for a few years, but I cut the strips from newspaper, since I didn’t have adding machine tape. I got in the habit of doing in between projects as a way to decompress with a little free-styling-no rules, no measuring, just mindless stitching, and we all know how good that feels. I’d been thinking of using them as a scrappy binding, but seeing them in your FABULOUS quilt may inspire a different direction. I’ve learned so much from you since 2021, with your incredible graphics and mathematical calculations. You could be called a Quilt Engineer. As a new quilter/sewist, I am just beginning to build my own collection of scraps. I can hardly wait to have enough scraps gathered that I can create something this beautiful!🤓👍
Karen! I have been waiting for this…and it’s stunning. My very first quilt was crumb pieced because I am nuts and when I saw the previous adding machine strip video, it spoke to me. Beautiful incredible quilt! Your work on the quilt and your work on the video is amazing, Karen. Thank you for doing what you do for the quilting community.
I have a great pattern for crumbs and scraps. It's an old quilt pattern with two different kinds of trees, and a house scattered here and there. I used the scraps for the trees. I did try and get yellows, oranges, reds together, greens, with a hint of teal, and some were different colors of burgundy and violet. It was gorgeous! I was surprised how simple it was, and how much thread I went through. I used bobbins for my top thread and bottom thread, and discovered how many bobbins I freed for a future project! There had to have been miles of thread in my quilt, but they were hidden well. Then I put it on my mother's quilt frame and quilted it by hand. I felt lucky to have the use of her frame, as my father and his friend made it for her birthday years earlier. He also put up a design board, and finished off an entire room in our finished basement that I helped my father complete. Carpeting, a wood stove for heat, a couch and chairs in a second family room with a TV set, a bedroom with a new quilt....all because my Mom wanted a proper place to sew. 😊

And I love that all of the fabric memories are in there. It's like a wheres waldo of fabric! Congrats on getting it done. :)
Dear Karen, I've been watching you and subscribed for years. This quilt is amazing! The enormity of it and your perseverance are a testimony of your expertise and bravery ❤. You go girl!!!
I loved your crumb on paper strips. So- I used a few supermarket receipts cut to length. A few hours after completing 3 I went into the sewing room and the fumes from the inks were toxic!! I used iron on paper for machine embroidery, Now I have an idea of how to use these! Thank you Karen ! Great idea!

Wow! What an accomplishment... and a beautiful quilt you have to show for all of your work. You have inspired me to start saving my crumbs. I love making scrap quilts, but this is the ultimate scrap quilt! Thanks Karen for showing us how you did this.
Thanks Nancy. It’s one of those things that’s doable one strip at a time.
I absolutely LOVE this quilt. Thank you 🙏🏻
So glad!
Wow! That is so amazing! And you selected the best backing for this as well! You motivate me with every project, Karen! Thank you for sharing!
Gosh I love this so much.I normally am not one for completely random quilts with any and all fabrics but this just looks gorgeous. The top in the window looked like stained glass. And I love that all of the fabric memories are in there. It's like a wheres waldo of fabric! Congrats on getting it done. :)
It looks amazing and you can't see the sashing strips they just blend in . The backing is spot on too.
I really admire your patience and tenacity in making this quilt. So proud of you ! I am starting my crumbs with adding machine tape today. 👑 Joan
It is a true memory quilt like our grandmother's made! And it is beautiful!
Dear Karen, I've been watching you and subscribed for years. This quilt is amazing! The enormity of it and your perseverance are a testimony of your expertise and bravery ❤. You go girl!!!
Wow Karen, that is sooo tremendous!!! Fabulous job!
Great idea!
This is so fantastic, Karen! Such a labor of love and how much fun to see your past quilting projects in every square inch. Love your channel.
This is one of the most glorious quilts I’ve ever seen! You did an amazing job on it. How wonderful to have all those memories in one glorious quilt! Thank you for sharing it with us.
Beautiful quilt. Love me a scrappy quilt.❤😊
You have given me inspiration watching all your videos over the last few years. This is a great quilt!
I'm so glad!
I have a very small area for sewing and quilting so I'm planning on making a baby quilt using this brilliant idea. No babies expected at this time so no rush
I think your quilt looks stunning. Congrats on finishing this longtime project. I hope you can enjoy this quilt for many years.
