- Do you have a pile of fabric crumbs? These are those tiny pieces that are too small for other scrap projects. In previous videos I have shown you how to sew them onto adding machine tape. In this quilting video those crumbs strips will be turned into blocks and then assembled into a King sized Quilt. So stick with me and I’ll show you how to do it.

7⃣ YEARS IN THE MAKING. I can hardly believe that it's done. And the strips have totally transformed into a quilt. And I love a heavy quilt. Off to test drive it now. 😊
It was so satisfying to watch! Thank you!
well done!
Karen it's just stunning!! 😍, what a mammoth devotion achievement, in time, energy and careful collection of fabric memories, I'm very inspired.. I might just Start by setting myself a task of one adding machine line per month. And see where it takes me. Thank you again for your inspiration 🎉 that really is a celebration quilt 🎉
Thanks Karen my scrap box is large and I’m going to try a version of your quilt I don’t have access to paper tape however I’m going to try well done the quilt is quite an achievement it’s beautiful
Now I am 82 and I have the tape, and a lg. basket of scraps. So I have decided that when I have finished all of my ufos I will do this. LOL. Maybe this will be the one I take to the nursing home? The last project. Have a good day Karen. 🤎ya . From Texes.
Applause! Standing Ovation! This is a quilt that tells the story of your life and is a treasure.
Karen has shown how a bite at a time with persistence you can eat a whole wedding cake and create a Masterpiece! You can talk yourself out of something but you can also talk yourself into it. Just make your current goal realistic. In my 60's I bought a retaining wall "kit". Then I could not find anyone to hire. I worked on it for 15 mins at a time and now it's finished and gorgeous!
👏👏👏 way to go
😂😂😂true
WOW! 🎉
How did I miss this?! I have watched the adding machine tape video about 10 times and wondered when the strips would find their forever home. This is STUNNING!! 😍 I'm also very inspired to dig into my crumb basket and get going on some strips. 🎉
thank you
Well done, Karen! Many sewists wouldn't bother keeping such small pieces of fabric, but look what you've made out of nothing at all! Imagine all of the warmth that sewists could provide if they all did this.
❤ Amen 🙏
That is making a lemon mousse soufflé with gold dust sprinkles out of lemons!! Stunning!
This is a heirloom quilt Karen. I’m in awe of your bravery to make this.
I’m surprised that my family did not stage an intervention
I so agree! An heirloom for sure!
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts THAT is hilarious! i.e. "OK Mom, that ticker tape project is getting a little bit too tickery silli-ickery for us, come on down from the mountain top and back to reality!"
I remember when you started the adding tape strips, it was a long, long time ago. It looks brilliant you must be delighted how it’s turned out and so glad it’s finally finished. I’m sure looking at all the fabrics must bring a huge amount of memories and emotions.
It is fun to touch them all and remember where they came from
It’s a living moment quilt! ❤
I absolutely love this video..... I laughed so hard I woke up my hubby! 😅😂 thank you for all the inspiration, tips, and tricks ❤
😎
OK YOU WIN !!! That's more crumbs than years and years worth. ))))) I'm on my way, but there will be lots more spacer BIG pieces in mine. Great fun !!! Can't wait to see what you come up with next. )))
Wow, that was just bonkers brilliant. Can't wait until I have enough scraps, or is that the wrong way to think about it (ha ha). All the best.
I've been waiting patiently for this video! I actually teared up at the end. As a fairly new sewist, I'm trying to take Karen's advice about scraps by never letting Mount Scrapmore grow into much more of a molehill by making crumb strips. I used the basic adding machine strip method last week when I made a pillow top with a 10" panel in the middle, and a band of scrappy strips around that. I DID curate some of my fabrics just because for this project I needed to have it coordinate with a particular throw, and I think it looks great. THANK YOU KAREN for sharing this method with us and for sharing the final product. I've learned SO much from you!
I love your quilt. It looks like stained glass. TFS
❤️Absolutely fabulous scrap quilt. It resembles a stained glass window. Well done!!! 👍🏼👍🏼
Wow. What an achievement with all those tiny scraps. I don’t think I’m that brave to sew a quilt with mine. 👍💕💕
Wait, what??? You have an on-point layout chart??? How did I never find that? I’ve actually googled that because I didn’t want to have to do the math. Of course you’ve figured this out and put it together! You’re brilliant.
Break out the champagne! 🎉It turned out fantastic! Also, thanks for the documents on setting squares on point! I must’ve missed that one. Keep up the good work. You’re a great inspiration!🌷
I had a business where we made intricate calico cushions for about 5 years to fit in a certain movement.
And sewing was my first love from the age of 13 because my mother made hideous dresses.
But I had sewing burnout.
I'm always interested in your type of programs, but quilting is too rigid for me.
But this quilt is the most beautiful, a bit rustic and would love to own this type of quilt.
It reminds me of mosaic.
Beautiful
At 73 I knit socks and everybody loves them.
I love this so much; you get the prize for perseverance and creativity.
Mount Scrapmore😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you
It's Fantastic!
I have a big box of old adding machine tape that i didnt know what to do with !
Got enough tape to share with all of my quilty friends 🧡
Wonderful
This quilt is spectacular. So much hard work but now you have a treasure to put on your bed. 😊
Oh wow! Karen, that is truly SPECTACULAR! What an epic quilt. Your perseverance is admirable. I love all things "scrappy", from crumbs to granny squares made with yarn. This quilt epitomises the frugal aspect of quilting's humble beginnings. 🙏
When it dropped down in the reveal of looked like a stained glass window, so beautiful
Wow! The "sum total" (not sorry) of your adding machine tape project is an impressive, beautiful album of your projects.
That would have been a great quilt name
Stunning. The thrifty side of me is in awe of your beautiful quilt. Have started strips on shopping dockets but need a lot of shopping to complete one such as yours!! Love your work, from Adelaide, South Australia, your devoted fan Helen x
Your choice for sashing fabric, binding and backing are perfect IMO 😊
I love this quilt so much. It may be my favorite of all the ones I’ve seen you make. It’s so my style! I’ve been making scrap strips for a few years, but I cut the strips from newspaper, since I didn’t have adding machine tape. I got in the habit of doing in between projects as a way to decompress with a little free-styling-no rules, no measuring, just mindless stitching, and we all know how good that feels. I’d been thinking of using them as a scrappy binding, but seeing them in your FABULOUS quilt may inspire a different direction. I’ve learned so much from you since 2021, with your incredible graphics and mathematical calculations. You could be called a Quilt Engineer. TY for taking the time to put together these exceptional videos. They are much more than entertainment. They’re a master class in the how-tos behind the creativity. 🙌
🤗🤗🤗
Hey! I know this is an older post but I was wondering how did the newspaper hold up?
@ Jolene, thanks for the question. The newspaper is all still intact, though I’ve not used any of the strips so far. I did, however, use my newspaper backed 10” scrappy squares two months ago to whip together a super-fast baby quilt for a shower the next day. Had those blocks not been ready, I’d have been out of luck. The newspaper peeled right off with no issues.
@@djlane5213 Thanks so much for the response! I really appreciate it. Never thought about it before, such a great idea. I am going to try this! Happy sewing!
Absolutely STUPENDOUS!!! From a distance, when we can see the entire quilt top, those neutral sashing strips are virtually invisible. Well done in EVERY respect! 🤗💖🎶💐
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this quilt!!!!!! It reminds me of the gum wall in Seattle! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Picture of the top floating in the garage door: the stained glass effect is absolutely sublime!❤
The first time I hung a quilt there I was just mesmerized by the effect. Now I do it for all my quilts
That is beautiful! I commend you for your dedication to finishing it! It was LOT of work! Great job!
That's fantastic! Your adding machine tape scrap strips video was the first one of yours I ever saw. I've started making them, but I don't have a large enough Mt. Scrapmore. Yet. 😆
I loved your crumb on paper strips. So- I used a few supermarket receipts cut to length. A few hours after completing 3 I went into the sewing room and the fumes from the inks were toxic!! I used iron on paper for machine embroidery, Now I have an idea of how to use these! Thank you Karen ! Great idea!
Always inspiring, Karen! That was wonderful.
Absolutely legendary quilt! I've been watching you make the adding machine tape strips for so long. I go through phases of crafting and I recently came back to quilting, so I'm checking on all my favorite channels. Holy smokes! This is amazing!
Thank you! Glad you like it!
Fantasticly beautiful, creative !
Respect to the beauty and materials ! Adding 😅to God's s creation !
Appreciate you pations and patience ! Wishing you Love and inspiration, dear Karen !
Such a BEAUTIFUL quilt. Looks great. I struggle with the scrappy look, but then, I struggle with any quilting. 🤣 But I refuse to give up, I love it. You have inspired me to attempt the adding machine tape to manage the scraps. Love your system too. Wouldn't you know, I have many empty shoe boxes and particularly an empty plastic shoe organizer that they would fit in. Thanks for the inspiration. 🤩😍
Wow!!! Just wow. It looks like a stained glass window in the light. Beautiful.
W. O. W. That is like the triathlon of Quilting.!! It looks fabulous Karen
Maybe even an Ultra triathlon 🤪
@@JustGetitDoneQuiltsno lie!
2:02 Fascinating quilt story upstaged by cute dog in background!
Whatever you decide to transition to doing, I know it will be a success, because of who you are. You are authentic and kind, and that comes through loud and clear. Do what fulfills you! I know I've thanked you before, but I need to repeat those words today. Thank you for all you have done for me and so many others!
Looks like a stained glass window. Just loveley even from scrap. Ghanks goff sharing and inspiring this novice, raring to go. ;
Thank you
That's exactly what I thought, it looks like stained glass!
Karen! I have been waiting for this…and it’s stunning. My very first quilt was crumb pieced because I am nuts and when I saw the previous adding machine strip video, it spoke to me. It also started a hoard of grocery store receipts, but that is another story. 😂 Your videos have taught me so much over the past few years. Thank you for helping me make the quilts that I want make.
Ohhhh Karen!!!!!!!
This quilt is WONDERFUL!!!!!!
Even your crumb quilt is a work of art!!
As a new quilter/sewist, I am just beginning to build my own collection of scraps. I can hardly wait to have enough scraps gathered that I can create something this beautiful!🤓👍
Hi Karen, I just wanted to let you know that I think that this is the most gorgeous scrap quilt that I ever seen. I love everything about it. I have been subscribed to your channel and I’be been watching your videos. I am a new quilter, working on my first quilt. I’m making the 6 inch size of Moda Blockheads 5. I have referred back to you so many times and I always find the answers to my questions from you. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and for bringing your love of quilting into my life. Hugs and appreciation from Minnesota.❤️
🤗🤗🤗
The enormity of this leaves me in awe. First of all, it takes a lot of projects to get that many scraps. Then to do a king size quilt out of nothing but scraps and crumbs is monumental. Just wow.
OMG, that is stunning, Karen! I just want to stare at it for hours and take it all in. What a beautiful work of art with sentimental meaning. Great work, thank you for sharing your process with us.
So gorgeous!
So many months ago, I watched some of your videos and let you inspire me to take care of all those tons of scraps, small and smaller and tiny .... And....mine is finished, too!
Thank you so much.
I love my scrap quilt!
The quilt is beautiful! I love that you light blue for Sashing and then the dark blue for your binding looks absolutely gorgeous!❤❤
Wow! Amazing!! A real labor of love!!! I especially like the sashing. It works really well because it is so unobtrusive and blends so well with the blocks.
It's beautiful...you have much more patience than I have.
Oh wow wow wow
That shot with the light shining through the top looking like the patchwork stained glass in Lincoln Cathedral took my breath away!
Great job! I don’t think that I would ever finish a project like this.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh wow that is one amazing project, you are far more patient than I am! Looks beautiful in the end, well worth the effort ❤❤
Wow Karen that’s fabulous! A friend of mine makes adding machine tape strips. I’ll have to show her this video! Well done. It’s beautiful.
I don't quilt. This is beautiful and makes a very good memory accessory to quilting for a lifetime. I think putting scraps together makes gorgeous items. And I noticed it doesn't even have to be in any order. I wish I could do this but I am limited in my years left on earth.
So beautiful - I think it looks like wall art - just so stunning.
Your scrap series reminds me of my grandmom's beef roast. First as a nicely sliced roast for Sunday dinner, then slices in gravy for Tuesday dinner, then hash for Friday and bones to soup for Saturday.
❤❤❤. I’m a huge fan of scrappy and this is the ultimate scrappy quilt❤❤❤. The blue you chose for sashing is absolutely perfect. It adds pattern but it is subtle because the color is so soft and pretty.
I've been waiting and waiting for this beauty. It did not disappoint. You are such an inspiration!!!
Love seeing your blocks on point. It makes the quilt!
Karen, congrats on this beautiful quilt!
Thank you
My eyes kept getting bigger with every step. This is a tremendous accomplishment, Karen!
@8:20 It looks like a beautiful stained glass window. Gorgeous.
It looks like an Google map of an American city. Great!!
Karen you never fail to amaze me, so impressive, inspiring and beautiful. This is why you have such a huge following. Thanks for all that you do.👍❤️🙂
Beautiful quilt Karen. I have a pile of these crumb blocks after you showed this method 3 years ago. Just deciding on the layout. I have used all blue fabrics.👏♥️🇦🇺
I am absolutely in love with this quilt!! I’m tempted to cut up some of my fabric into crumbs just to do this! 😉
Thank you for sharing your great videos.
Karen, Your scrap quilt is a labor of love. So many memories in all those scraps. The quilt is simply stunning. I love that you used just one fabric design for the back. Bravo! 👏👏👏 Well done!
Karen, you're a genius. And utterly delightful.
Absolutely beautiful result of years of patient sewing. I especially like your idea of the narrow sashing as a way to attach the crumb strips together. Just enough width to allow cohesion without diminishing the impact of the crumbs. Inspirational. Thanks for sharing the finished quilt.
Yes, I thought the narrow sashing strip was a really smart way to join the strips together and I like that she used the same fabric throughout for cohesion. Very nice.
I would love to see some creative videos using various sized HST's!! Like using up your spare ones besides in a afterquilt.
It was wonderful to see those crumb blocks turn into a quilt
Yay! I've been looking forward to you showing off the crumb strip quilt for a long time now! It's so nice!!!!
That is Spectacular! Do any of your neighbours, watch the Unrolling and give you a round of applause? Lol! They should! This is an amazing quilt!
Ohh this is stunning!!! I recently inherited a 12 pk of big adding machine rolls. I was so excited 😆
Now to get some fabrics, projects & start collecting scraps.
My fabric & yarn was all lost in a flood. But look on bright side, i can start with an empty stash bucket 😊
I really admire your patience and tenacity in making this quilt. So proud of you ! I am starting my crumbs with adding machine tape today. 👑 Joan
Beautiful, and a lovely way to use your scraps with all those memories. Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely gorgeous/ Great name for it as well. It also kinds reminds me of a satellite picture of a neighborhood. Awesome job and very inspiring. Thank you for sharing and teaching. ❤
Straight line quilting was definitely the right choice for the quilt! Absolutely gorgeous!
I love how your crumb quilt turned out! I think it looks like a city map with the sashing strips as streets 🤩
My favorite quilt, the one that I love to snuggle under on a daily basis, is a crumb quilt made out of all my scraps. I love yours!
This is a wonderful, colorful, memorable quilt, Karen! You keep and use so many of your small scraps. I usually get rid of any scraps smaller than 2”. We have a wonderful recycling program, Ridwell, which has a category called “Threads”, which will take fabric scraps. So I bundle them into a worn out zip lock bag and toss them in the bag. But now perhaps I’ll start keeping even the smaller ones…. Thanks for another fabulous, informative video!
I’m glad the binding is finally on this one
Hi from South Africa 🇿🇦
This is the most beautiful quilt I've seen. You are truly talented. It's scrappy but not tatty... utterly amazing. Well done and thanks for sharing Karen. Be blessed.
Love, love this! (The blue sashing❤) I’m such a scrappy quilter, I often don’t even notice a pattern unless it is scrappy. I don’t keep scraps smaller than 2x2 and I do keep wonky shapes. I’m crazy about crumb quilts. I truly enjoy sewing mindlessly all those little pieces. One of my favorite estate sale finds this spring is 4 rolls of some type of adding machine like paper that is 9” wide! And the paper feels great..more like newspaper! Oh what fun this will be. I would like to say, crumb quilting “my way”, I don’t find it really necessary to have a foundation if you press with starch. Don’t take my starch away..I need it😂(KH)
That quilt looks great, Karen. Through your inspiration, I have several strips on the go. Congratulations on finishing yours. 🎉❤
Dear Karen, I've been watching you and subscribed for years. This quilt is amazing! The enormity of it and your perseverance are a testimony of your expertise and bravery ❤. You go girl!!!
Karen, The quilt is amazing! The years to make and the memories you will cherish forever. Love the Tula fabric on the back. It seems appropriate for the quilt.
Thanks Karen for the info about how you sashed between the rows, it will help me the day I have enough rows to assemble. I can’t imagine how long this whole process took you. Bravo to you!❤
Высший уровень мастерства ! Спасибо за видео ! Одеяло прекрасно ! Браво !
It's fantastic! The .5 inch sashing divides it enough to rest your eyes and appreciate all the fabrics. Great job!
Oh wow, Karen, this is amazing! ❤❤❤
Wow!! It's amazing, Karen.
That is STUNNING!!!!!!! Hooray!
I’d definitely be interested in the solids project, too :)
Fabulous! And, no, I don't have the perseverance to even attempt such a feat, but I certainly admire yours!
I am totally blown away by your dedication to this project…what a testament to your love for this craft, and a lifetime of using your skills to bless others. It is inspiring to think of all of the projects, work and love that went into each step of this quilt. I can imagine that as you look at it and use it, you will remember times and people on your life that were meaningful and formative to who and where you are now. I hope that I can emulate this in my own quilting journey. Thank you for sharing your heart in this way!
That is an amazing quilt. With the sun going through it, it almost looked like stained glass. I love the small sashing strips which helped unify it. Thanks for sharing the process with us.
I'm so glad to finally see these strips in a finished piece! Bravo and we'll done Karen 🎉
