You’re right about the software. For me, it’s the time. I often have to go into the settings / time and sync local time. It would fall behind a couple of minutes. I also have problem with my two xr15 not coming on at the same time etc. it’s not too bad in my case, I just ignore the 1 or 2 min difference. But looks like you had a major fall back there.
Yeah, it was a significant issue. Drastically impacted PAR. But it was tough to notice it. Figured I’d put the word out. And yeah, that ridiculous minor time shift stuff happens to me too. How can they not fix a digital clock 🤣
Things like this made me switch to T5 for my next tank build. I like my Radion, but for $1000 each, you shouldn’t be dealing with this. For a 5-6 foot tank, the ATI Sunpower 8 Bulb can be had for less than $800. Energy usage is not much more ( if not equal ) to 3 XR30s spaced 24” apart. You save $2200 off the initial purchase which pays for a lot of power and bulbs and probably has better coverage. From my math, LEDs being better or more economical is just crafty marketing and easily disproven when you look and watts and operating expenses.
T5 is great, proven tank technology. Metal halide is fading out, and will eventually disappear, but I think T5 has a lot of life left in it. It’s too good of a bet, so tons of reefkeepers still go that route. There are good LED options on the market, but I wouldn’t count anything under the Aperture umbrella as “great” when it comes to the marriage of hardware and software, and Aperture, despite bringing a lot of cash to the table, has shown no urgency to innovate anything, or improve that hardware-software marriage, which is hugely disappointing, if unsurprising.
Wouldn't you know, one day after you posting this video, I happened to notice my XR15 G6 on when it wasn't supposed to be. Turns out mine was a mismatch in the time setting and I haven't touched my schedule in months.
Yeah something had to have happened in a recent app update or something. What’s disturbing to me is that a bug made its way into the software that literally acts upon the light schedule/intensity itself, and it wasn’t caught. Like, uh, guys…it’s kind of critically important that this aspect of the software always work, given the delicate life it’s supporting…not a great look.
Thank you, good to know. My issues with my Radion is timing. My light is set to turn off at 10:00pm and the LEDs turned off at 9:58pm. Not a big deal but it bugs me.
Went through the same thing the past couple weeks. Unplugged it, messed around with settings, reset the lights and one light would still not connect properly. Frustrating! Then somehow the following day , the lights turned on at the same time and the intensity matched. 🤷♂️
I’m building my first reef tank and choosing a light frustrates me to no end. It seems even the top of the line equipment from supposedly good brands is having serious problems at some point, mostly because of software issues. Can these Radion lights be controlled manually? No wi-fi and Bluetooth BS. I was looking at the Red Sea Reef LEDs but was put off by the fact they are only controlled by the app and were plagued by connectivity issues. I don’t really need fancy sunsets and spectrum control, just consistent problem free output.
@@stoyantodorov2133 For the record, I sold these Radions. Best decision I ever made. Don’t do the Red Sea lights. Horrible spectrum. I switched to ReeFi Uno 2.0 Pros. They just use a basic internet connection and a browser for programming. No disconnections or weird setting changes since I switched to those. Very stable. I’m also getting Quanta Helix bars from Quanta Lights soon. If you want manual, go with Kessil. Great lights. Amazing spectrum. Awesome build quality. They have knobs on top to adjust intensity and spectrum. I had a Kessil A360X for a long time, it was a very good experience.
@@kalamazoo_reeferThanks for the advice. That Reefi Uno light seems really good, surprised this is the first time I’ve heard of it considering I’m deep in the reef led rabbit hole for a month now
@@stoyantodorov2133 Daniel (owner of ReeFi Labs) doesn’t really advertise. He relies on word of mouth. But he backs his products up with a 3-year gold standard warranty, and one ReeFi Uno 2.0 Pro is stronger, by the data, than a Radion XR30. He’s also quick with customer service. I’d much rather give him my money than the big boys on the block, who are charging more for less.
pH dropping tipped me off to a problem occurring, and then my kid identified the problem while I was stuck searching through the weeds. Apparently pH tracking and my kid are my two best reefkeeping monitors 🤣 But at the end of the day, I only paid $500 apiece for these Radions brand new. What did I expect for that? Lights that put out the same reliable light intensity day after day? Haha.
It’s all bluetooth now. Aperture wants it that way, so that if you want WiFi control, you have to buy an Apex AND the MXM module that creates the bridge between the products. It’s all just a money grab now.

Moral of the story…have more kids. 😂
Lmao. Children: critical reef support systems

So how many people are having this problems that are using Apple versus Android I run mine on Android I've never had a problem
I run both. So maybe it resulted from me using my iPhone with Mobius last, months prior. Crazy. That’s a significant problem that needs fixed asap.

Same thing happens here. How can they not get a simple clock right?

Unreal. That’s a pretty major snafu.

Reason 623 why pH is my #1 watched parameter.
