- For what seems like an eternity, I have been trying to run my first Sub 20 parkrun since June 2019. After several near misses - 20:18, 20:15, 20:10, 20:08, 20:05 and 20:02, would today be the day I could put that one to bed?
Since running 21:00 at Poole parkrun last year, achieving a 89.8% age grading, Dawn has been in pursuit of a Sub 21 and an elusive 90% age grading. How would her run turn out?
90%!!!! That’s insane! I’ve met you two 3 times now and you’ve been lovely to talk to. You’re great examples of inspirational runners in the running community.
Thanks for your kind words. 😊
Cracking run both so soon after the marathon, looked an ultra speedy parkrun. Keep on keeping on 🔥🔥
Thanks, Ryan. It's definitely a fast course. 👍
Woohoo! Terrific non competitive racing by the both of you. Congratulations
👍🏻🏃♂️💨
Haha, it was a non-competitive race or what they term parkeun. 🤣
Big smiles I bet on the way home. Really pleased for you both.
Thanks, Steve! 👍
Good to see you on Saturday, and glad to see my course suggestion bore fruit!
Good to see you too! Hopefully see you at Sale Sizzler too in summer.
Congratulations! Superb running from both of you. The highs & lows of running all within a couple of weeks of each other.
Thank you. Yes, indeed. 👍🙂
Fantastic run for you both and 1945 for John the historian , the irony. 👊👏👍I recall that drinking fountains were in most parks as I was growing up. Not sure why they disappeared though 🤔
Thanks, Lee.
Brilliant times both of you! Also many congratulations of your superb age gradings. Well done Mr & Mrs B!
Thanks, Kevin. 👍
What a fantastic achievement for you both, you clearly show your love for the sport ❤
Thanks. We are a bit passionate about it. 🤣
Great stuff both, especially the 90%er fantastic 🏃♀️🏃🏼♂️

Congratulations both of you… proving that working hard towards your goals really pays off 🎉

Congratulations young man. And to Dawn also.
Thank you. 🙂👍
Well done! 19:45 is a time anyone can be proud of.
Thanks 👍
Brilliant times, very impressive 👏🏼
Thank you. 👍🙂
Really good running John & Dawn, it’s a awesome feeling when ya reach your running goals, once ya do a sub 20 min, kind of a neat feeling when ya know you can pretty much run a sub 20 min now anytime you want, on with the next goal, chip away to sub a 19min 5k Boom! 🧐👍✅🌴🥳🏃🏽♂️🌲
Thanks, Reece. The aim is to chip away!
Huge congrats to you both. Need to pop over to do that PR.
Thank you. 👍 It's definitely a PR to do for a time!
Well done you two.. great results👏👏
Thanks 👍
Awesome achievement! Congrats!
Thanks you 👍
Great running both of you 👏
Thank you 👍
Wow! Congratulations to you both!
Thanks, Jay. All moving in the right direction. 👍
Great running guys! 👍
Thanks 👍
Congratulations on smashing your parkrun goals, dears! Your dedication and determination are truly inspiring. Keep up the amazing work and motivating us all to push our limits!
Thanks, Mihai 👍
I think that likely puts Dawn as third fastest lady in the now defunct age graded table.
Angela Oldham being either no 1 or no 2.
Sorry…7th overall. Angela bring no 1 with 98%
Thanks. That's amazing age grading! I think she was at Sale Sizzler the same time as.us last year. 🙂
Yeees, John and Dawn!!
Been meaning to visit this parkrun for a while. I’ll give it a look when I’m back up north again!
You won't disappointed. Lovely park as you can see. Parking right near the start if you get there early enough. (7.59 as I have time OCD) 😉
Great running 👏🏼
Thanks 👍
Well done!
Thank you Lesley
Wow. Incredible running. Massive congratulations to you both on a triumphant return to Manchester. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
What a great video and the perfect advert for what looks a fantastic park and event generally.
All this talk of chasing time/age grade percentages and yet, how long before age grade and timing itself is banished forever? I imagine it's only a matter of time. 😔
The damage being done to parkrun on a weekly basis, seems to be unrepairable. I ran parkrun for the first time in 11weeks on Saturday and then supported runners and took photos for Facebook. Purposely didn't take my barcode because I'm still very unhappy.
The meeting between Parkrun bosses and BBTS was so predictable but also quite disgraceful if true. I find it very hard to believe some of the quotes being mentioned are accurate. Treating volunteers and runners with such contempt is unforgivable.
"Parkrun is our playground - if you don't like it, play elsewhere". Mmmmm.... Ok, that's fine. Very much doubt I will ever do parkrun ever again. 100 new runners are going to replace me so I won’t be missed.
Perhaps sometime in the future you might have a non-timed parkrun starting at 9am and a timed parkrun starting at, lets say, 8am? Runners from one run volunteering for the other. Although this does appear like a logistical nightmare!
Thanks, Colin. The parkrun ethos certainly have changed, and the comments we read do appear extremely disrespectful to parkrunners!
We used to go with the attitude parkrun is what you want it to be and we Will continue to use it how we want to use it. The more competitive runners stay away is what they want, so keep going and don't let them push us out!
And this is why most People are pissed off with what parkrun have done with the stats …just utter nonsense …great running times to you both and 90% is no joke ..I just missed out earlier this year 89.88 in v55-60!😉😉all the best
Agreed, it's nonsense. Nobody was bothered by stats. Listen to With Me Now Podcast, which gives an interesting parkrun background.
Well done on an excellent age, grading yourself!
Great running! I like your comment about what parkrun was set up to be. The direction of travel is worrying. Not sure if you’ve seen the meeting the other day. They don’t rule out removing timing and result listings. Madness.
Yes for me it's the mendacious rewriting of history that is the most troubling aspect.
That sounds like mission accomplished, superb efforts. Do you think it's more satisfying being able to still run fast as the years creep by, or when you were younger?
Thanks. Interesting question...There's less pressure now than when chasing pbs. Although it's only the runner who puts pressure on themselves. We both still love running for times and being able to hit age bests. We still get that feeling of We can go faster with an age best like we did when we got overall pbs.
Superb both! I think I would have to run around 17 minutes to get a 90% age grading 😱
Parkrun (who have never cared about stats you understand...) use the 2006 WAVA standards. Just looked it up. 18:08 for a 62 year old. There's your next training series 😉
@@tworunningbrooms so for a 63 it must be slower? 🤣🤣
Glad you recorded this one! Brilliant running from both of you. Great to see you both have a positive run on the same day. Dawn’s age grade is outstanding. Looking forward to running with you both on Saturday 😁
Thanks, Rachel. 👍🙂 Look forward to seeing you.
