The reason the Defender takes on water is using the principle of 'trim' ballast similar to a submarine. You wouldn't want your Defender to float and loose contact with the road. The Defender is designed to take on water.
I'm pretty sure the man knew what he was doing in the first place...people do this all the time for fun, he wouldn't just drive at it not knowing what's it's like with a kid...leave the dude. Lone. The child probably loved it!! My little brother does when we all go off-roading and end up doing something like this in the car! Nice on man! :) :)
I love how the 2 guys are just smiling. Great video. At first i thought you were a goof and was going to drown the engine. But your vehicle is modified and you know what your doing
I guess it's pretty normal for every 4x4, there is this famous video of an 80 series cruiser crossing a flooded place, and even there it was shown water gushing inside.
I remember doing things like this as a kid, it's what memories are made of, keep up the great parenting and sod the haters, you're in the right vehicle unless you get a hovercraft.
Be better off letting your son play with a computer game Than allowing him to have fun like that If you are not carefull he will grow up to be a propper person Great clip enjoy your landy and your kids
I remember my dad taking me out into flood water in his big jeep. I was around 4-6 at the time and I loved it. All these people saying you are stupid to have done so are wrong, he would have been loving it. And I'd guess you would know what to do had anything gone bad, considering you are even able to drive through flood water. Many people would have gotten stuck very early on.
I was distracted and missed the beginning of the video on my first view and thought you were driving up a river until I got to the end and saw the road lol.... great video, my Landy mists up completely when I wade lol
Just in case anyone is interested this is in Worcestershire, UK on the A443 bewteen Lindridge and Newnham. As a side note the small lane that he appears in at the beginning is Eastham Bridge, that collapsed in a more recent flood and a school bus of children narrowly avoided driving into the river.
Or landrover discover (what we hae) it has lift kit, snorkel and off road wheels. Goes like a dream through mud and water lol you can't beat them I mean look at the new cars of today. They fail when going trough a puddle let alone a flood lol
Well most Rovers can do things like this. Rover were built for this type of stuff. Thats why there used in the army because how reliable they are lol. even on Top Gear in Sound America, Jeromy got an old beat up £1,000 1980's Rover and it never broke down even though he plowed through trees, boulders, flood, desert heat, sand dunes and one of highest volcanoes on earth lol. Rovers are built for these things so 99% un-likely of it braking down. (unless its a rubish, show off Sport Rover)
If the cab was sealed, the vehicle would float and the tyres would not get traction. Wading is all about letting the water in so the vehicle weight sits firmly on the tyres for forward traction. As the bow wave forms a null area behind the front wheels the footwells drain under the bottom of the doors.
The day people get over them selfs and stop cuddling kids in fucking wool all their life is the day I grow a pair of fucking wings. Nothing was at risk. Car was built for this stuff, unlike them little shit mini cars that i get tempted to run over half the time
brill vid m8y .. very impressive how well these land rover's do thro deep water and mud .. :) i bet ya kid loved it ,, as mine do when we get out there :)
i also have a landrover & I use it as intended. you wading through water like that is no different to a sports car accelerating away from traffic lights or a motor bike weaving through traffic, its got to be done. nice vid
I'm a Land Rover enthusiast, but there's no way I would enter a flood, without knowing its depth, whether there was fast moving water and (most important of all), being able to see the exit.Especially with a young child in the car.
+TRPG pilot Local knowledge is one thing but, without being able to see the exit, how would the driver know that their exit isn't blocked by a broken down vehicle?
Kid Fail - did not open Cooler and present Beer. [ OK OK the child is very small - they might need an opener instead of a twist-top ; but it should always be presented pre-opened to the driver - so that are not distracted ]
if you look at a shape of a wave you got the front bow wave then you got the slop at the back as long as he keeps a bow wave in front of the land rover it makes a slope in the engine bay all so the air intake is high up.
Nice driveing, you kept the bow wave just right - could have got a bit complicated had you made a mistake, especially with you child in the truck - but well done
Lovely! All these people saying stuff about your child, nonsense he must of loved it! Also that guy who said "could have gone down a drain" Im guessing his wheels must be rather big, wouldnt go down a small hole like that
The reason the Defender takes on water is using the principle of 'trim' ballast similar to a submarine. You wouldn't want your Defender to float and loose contact with the road. The Defender is designed to take on water.
Nothing can stop a Defender! Not even water gushing in!
It's meant to bud. To prevent it floating and tipping

@@nhtp342501 no, an idiot

You could not look any more cool driving to school
Pi was thinking the same thing
I guess it's pretty normal for every 4x4, there is this famous video of an 80 series cruiser crossing a flooded place, and even there it was shown water gushing inside.
Dave Mustaine and a chill ass little kid driving in a flood... Well damn.
Brilliant. I love the way the kid doesn't give a fuck that he's 4ft deep in muddy water!
@Mook Wolf shut the fuck up.
Me now I'm 14 stopped doing that a while ago
one of the best water wading vids on youtube.. good work
Land Rover Defender With a Snorkel, Cant go wrong, Great Video
That lil boy was like "am i suppose to take a bath again now..?"
Great video and a fantastic experience for the little passenger! I'm the owner of a 300tdi powered 90 too.
Yes, riveting
I remember doing things like this as a kid, it's what memories are made of, keep up the great parenting and sod the haters, you're in the right vehicle unless you get a hovercraft.
KEEP CALM, DRIVE LAND ROVER
That what the car was build for!!!
Except for the cabin waterproofing. Damn, those things leak like a sieve!
yeah, I know, it's cool!
*built

Even more relevant 7 years after you said it friend....
After 10 years, this statement became a future foresight

Many sensible people wouldn’t attempt it, let alone with kid
@@flashdance5574 It's not like that car is designed to go through water or anything...

Me too
it's why those cars exist, they're built to do that.
im a landrover enthusiast. and for defender.. "ur goddamn beast" :)

Legend! Love finding this sort oof stuff on youtube. Proof that defenders are fucking awesome.
Holy crap, I thought he was going to drive though a ford but instead he turned left to go down the river, didn’t no it was a road till the end
Super vid, one of the best defender ones on youtube. Kid loved it I reckon, and you had to make a return journey I hope..fabulous!! Ta for posting.
THIS! This is why I want a Land Rover Defender with a snorkel. Ain't nothing gonna stop it!

love it to bits, landy's are the best thing ever. great video loved watching it. the kids face was great too, he loved it i reckon.

The power of a Land Rover
Nice video, looks like fun plus you seem to know what you're doing.

Defenders can handle a wet floor. When cleaning out the interior with a garden hose it'll have a wet floor too.
Haha, the little kid, with the water coming in at the front “meh, let me know when it gets up to the window”
its all good till the road gets washed out and you can see it...then ...how long will that thing float for?
My son loves offroad/wading! 🙂Disco Sport here, 2ft wading depth
I would really love to see this with it's original sound. =)
Cool film!!
You obviously know the road/area well and had a more than capable defender. The biggest risk here is getting wet. Good job
I love how he show the kid sitting near him lol
Wow some sort of Machine the Old defender, I use that route on my motorbike but don't think I would have made it!
My question is of one being more practical, why is the roadway built in the lowest part so that it floods?
This was the coolest thing I had ever seen! The kid was awsome!! Well done o hairy one!
Best 4x4xFAR
He just don't care he's brave for doing that 😂
They might as well call it a floodable boat with wheels!

That was a nice bow wave at one point :o)
How long will.it go though water for

+John Hooker the road might be flooded like this every winter, so its a known depth.
+TRPG pilot
Local knowledge is one thing but, without being able to see the exit, how would the driver know that their exit isn't blocked by a broken down vehicle?
+John Hooker if it wos me and there wos a broken down car blocking the road it would just be getting pushed out the way
+13kpologt Good luck with the insurance claim on that one! :)
+John Hooker chances are if the vehicle is broken down in the water its a insurance right off eny way.
The driver looks like a young Bon Jovi! Nice job guys!
Love to see the replacement wannabe do this !
that guy looks like a young Peter Frampton
Never get betwixt an Inglishman and the milk for his tea! :-)
Yes son, you are going to Nursery today!
This happens to be my 1000th favourited video.
What is the title of the song in background ?. Of course non the title of the original song, but that the cover.
P.S: Great Video !!!
Any problems after doing this?
Alternator, starter ok?
Dose the heater box fill up with silt?
He is in grave need of a submarine. Somebody buy him one immediately 😱🙌
had you a plan b if it stopped in the middle of it,that was deep

Is the water suppost to be coming in from the front to where your son was sitting? Wouldn't it make your floor wet inside?
It happens in all cars
What are you driving a s iv seen a few Green defenders in the videos. is it 110 Td5.
***** the snorkel is on the drivers side and the dash has tdi dials. I reckon it's a 300tdi.
Nice vid. Only question. The water at one point completely covered the hood. How did it not hydro lock!? Nice vid over all ;)
Thanks Dan lee
if you look at a shape of a wave you got the front bow wave then you got the slop at the back as long as he keeps a bow wave in front of the land rover it makes a slope in the engine bay all so the air intake is high up.
Snorkel?
zanyredonkulous a pipe the moves the intake point
air intake was at roof level. it travels through a pipe that opens up above the roof
Where is your ECU, i hope not under the drivers seat ?
is noddy holder your grandad?
i didnt know William Wallace had a son or a landrover infact!
What an incredibly tough car.
Maybe our old Toyota hilux finally has a challenger ; )
Where about is this ?
Is the water supposed to enter the cab like that? The little man looked like he was having fun. That is a sturdy car. Thanks for posting.
Yea it happens in all cars nothing to worry about :)
Where did you position the air breather pipes for gearbox and axles?
You don't you only need a snorkel
Cool baby sitting like a KING 👑 😘
Great vid love it can't wait for more rain lol
Does it have a keel?
What did those blokes say when you drove past them lol ?
It rubs the lotion on the skin, or else it gets the hose again.
your just as safe in that as you are a boat nuff said
Don’t be silly
Love that! But original sound would have been better )

One Life Live It.
These things literally swim.
You should have kept the sound track going... great video anyway!
that was impressive
the wheel on that wouldn't even notice a drain! lol
Where were you going to once you got out the water?
Tesco
If it was me? A three point turn and then back the other way!
we dont have drain covers in the middle of roads here
If there was a drain big enough to swallow a DEFENDER, that water wouldn't be there! ;)
That lass driving needs a shave
Nice driveing, you kept the bow wave just right - could have got a bit complicated had you made a mistake, especially with you child in the truck - but well done
We can all ask that same question.

Where's the air intake on that thing?
