The U.S. Navy USS Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, including up to 2,000 Marines from the U.S. Marine Corps 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), will stage off the coast of Israel in the eastern Mediterranean Sea in the event they are ordered to evacuate Americans caught in the fighting.

Brings back a lot of memories. We were one of the first MEUSOC units in the mid 1980's. I think the capabilities of todays MEUSOC is probably much greater than 1987. Oooh Raaah!!!
I think the designation MEU changed from MAU when Al Gray became Commandant. He made a lot changes to the Marine Corps. His attitude was to increase warrior skills and raise the standard for combat arms in the Corps. He was quite a guy, he drove around in a jeep and was always in cammies.
Memories for me as well. I was at 3rd so didn’t float. And had the honor of being in the very first SOC platoon in 3rd Marine Division in 88. Semper Fi. 💪🇺🇸

My Dad was fortunate not to go down with the ship in WW2. The troops were being transported to the South Pacific islands when they struck a mine. They all except for two swam to shore from the deck. The ship listed into the deep waters and sunk within hours. Today tourists scuba dive to the depths to get a glimpse of the Coolidge. Only expert divers can dive to its depth of about 150 feet near the shore. Maranatha ''Lord Come Quickly'' God bless all souls on deck and below. Please save them from all of harm's way. most soldiers, marines and airmen do have a choice of customizing their weapons to fit their ergonomic needs and/or the mission. some members go to the PX/clothing sales where they sell other attachments and purchase them there.
