The Jazztet was a jazz sextet, co-founded in 1959 by trumpeter Art Farmer and tenor saxophonist Benny Golson, always featuring the founders along with a trombonist and a piano-bass-drums rhythm section. The original Jazztet lasted until 1962, and helped to launch the careers of pianist McCoy Tyner and trombonist Grachan Moncur III. In 1982 Farmer and Golson revived the group and toured extensively.

These brilliant jazz giants were part of a great, inspirational bunch that changed the style of jazz from the mid 40’s/50’s/60’s + . For me the very best of jazz years folks. 学生の頃、J.Jもよく聞いていたけど、スイングジャーナル誌のゴールドディスクの〝ファイブスポット　アフターダーク〟とか、フラーもよく聞いていました。ゴルソンの、テナーソロとは対照的な叙情的なテーマに、フラーの太い音でよく唄う、優しさを感じるフレーズのソロがとてもいいですよね。当時から、他のトロンボニストが細管がほとんどなのに、太管が好みで使用していたらしいですが、このステージではヤマハの〝YSL-641〟を吹いていますね。当時から、いい楽器だったことを証明してくれていますね。フラーのソロと合っていて、とてもいい音だと思います。ちなみに、一曲目のDmのブルースで、フラーのソロに流用されているのは、日本の童謡〝さくら、さくら〟ですね。

Thanks for sharing this! This is especially noteworthy video for the presence of wonderful Mickey Tucker who was at the time one of the best NY pianists but since moved to Australia and disappeared completely from the scene. There are very few videos of him on YT.
