Thank you for the formula on how to cook frozen foods. I just got an air fryer and have been all over the internet looking for that info - the temperature on the packaging for half the time. Thank you!
Finailly found a video explaining the time to cook basic frozen stuff other then whats on the owners manual! I just got a airfryer for Christmas and been having a hard time on how long to cook...everything i made was cooked twice too long thank you for the video!
You are welcome! I agree about the manual. They seem to all be so unhelpful. Same with other kitchen gadgets - they don't seem to answer the basic stuff you need to really get started.
Yeah, I think I am going to have to get me one. A really positive is if you live in the south(Texas, like me) and you don't want to turn that oven on. A big plus. Bonus time, yep! Advice on the best ones?
Yeah, I got mine in the spring, and it was really nice to not heat up the whole house just because I wanted to make kale chips. :) I have the GoWISE 3.7qt and like it. It's definitely one of the least pricey ones, and mine has had no problems, even with many months of heavy use. I've also heard good things about the Philips and Black and Decker ones.
This is so cool. I had never even heard of an air fryer until you mentioned it. If anyone asks me, I know exactly where to send them You are my go to air fryer guru Becky!
i like to run frozen eggrolls under water and then rub with sesame oil before cooking ~the crust turns out crispy but melt in your mouth. I like it better especially for my husband as he wears dentures and without this simple (takes a minute to do both) preparation i find that the shell of the eggroll turns out really hard on the ends and somewhat leathery too (hard to chew without good teeth). But, it just tastes so much better (especially with sesame seed oil YUM!).

Thank you so much for this video, I just got my Air fryer and was not sure how to cook the frozen foods in it. this was such a big help for me. Thank you again.
You can, but you need to cover the top of the basket to keep it from flying everywhere. Putting the kernels in a sealed paper bag might work, but I haven’t tried. 390 for ~15 min. is the rec I’m seeing. I hope this helps!
Is the reason to shake some foods mainly to prevent the food from sticking to the air fryer or does it help the food cook better? I am new to the air fryer train and love mine! TY!
Both. Helps to more evenly cook the food if it's not in a single layer in the basket. I diced up some skin-on red potatoes and it helps them brown more evenly with a few shakes throughout the cooking process. (Tossed 'em in a lil olive oil 1st)
They certainly look good. Taste them for us. Do you eat frozen Indonesian or Asian tempeh (like Indonesian battered tempeh squares)? Do they cook up well? Thank you.

If it's already cooked, then you shouldn't have to. The frozen Gardein and TJ's products I'm using are pre-cooked, then sold frozen. I can't be 100% sure, because I don't cook chicken, though, so you may want to do some more research. I'd hate for you to get sick! Are there oven directions on the packaging?
So when you cooked the egg rolls for 8 minutes was the air fryer "cold" and just turned on, or had something cooked prior? If cold do you need to add time for it to heat?
I never preheat. So 8 minutes total. Unless a recipe specifies preheating, I skip it. You can always add a minute or two at the end, if things aren't cooked properly, but for these spring rolls, 8 minutes did the trick.

@@glueandglitter Again, very helpful! Thank you, Becky. And thanks especially for responding even though you did the video 2 years ago! Wishing you the best always...
Thank you for the video. I just bought an air fryer and wanted to try out some store-bought frozen stuffed clam. I tried 5min 400F preheat + 10min at 400F. They came out a bit dry. Any suggestion? (I used no sauce as I am not really used to eating clams, so have no clue. Also, I put it in right out of the freezer).
I don't cook clams, but that sounds like the use case I mentioned with unbreaded chickenless strips. The air fryer is going to dry them out without a sauce or breading.
How funny, I actually just picked up a box of those spring rolls from TJs yesterday and was wondering how to cook them in my air fryer. Thanks for the tips!
You're so welcome! They're now officially a freezer staple around here. Adding a crunchy spring roll makes leftover Chinese food feel way more special.
Oh, I hadn't thought about cooking Gardein strips in the air fryer! Half the time would make them even more convenient. Also, I didn't know that TJ'd had vegan egg rolls. I'm going to check those out! Great video, Becky!
I have a lot of recipes (including the ones I teach in my class) on my site! This post is a great place to start: www.glueandglitter.com/2016/09/06/vegan-air-fryer-recipes/
Thanks so much. The 'instruction" that came with my Best Products air fryer is a joke! Repeating some info over and over and things you really should know....silence. This video is great regarding cooking times with frozen foods. Nice job!
Thanks Becky! Took my first, and new, air fryer for a spin tonight with your directions and was duly impressed! The instruction and cookbook that came with it was very ill conceived, in my opinion. It said to cook everything from room temperature. Nope. Your methods were perfect!
It depends on how saucy and how thick the sauce is. Some sauce will drip, but if it's a thick, clingy sauce, that's fine. The Porkless Bites I mention in the video come with a thick, sticky sauce, and I toss them in the sauce, then cook in the air fryer. You lose some, but it's not a big deal.
If you don't mind a little oil, just roll them in that instead. I prefer a little EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil). You don't need much at all, and it will crisp the outside. If you don't want to have a crisp outside, then you can use very little aluminum foil in the bottom, to keep from making too much of a mess. I would never put more than barely enough to cover the bottom. (Only in the pan, not the basket). If you don't mind adding a little extra cook time, then you can stop half way through cooking, and lift the basket out (be careful not to burn yourself), and use a cooking spoon to dip the sauce in the pan back over the food. Then, put it back in the fryer. Personally, I don't like cooking with sauces that are thick and sweet because they can be a pain to clean up. I prefer using a little EVOO, for cooking. Then, before it is done, I will heat up the sauces in the microwave, or on the stove. When you heat up the sauce, use a oven bag in a pot of boiling water, with the sauce in the bag. In the microwave, read the bag first, because some cannot be microwaved. But in the microwave, you don't need the water. Good luck. Razar.
The pot you put it in, not the basket. If you line the basket, it will keep the air from circulating. Sorry, I should have been clearer. But if you do put it in the pot, make sure it is very little. The more you use, the more it will interfere with the air circulation. Razar.
How about frozen stuffed peppers? Cannot find a legit answer to this question any where. It may be that it is better to thaw first, but I don't know, that is what I would like to find out for sure......
Oh that’s a good question! I’ve never seen vegan stuffed peppers, so this would be a tough one for me to test. I’d start with same temp, half the time and see where that lands you. You can always add a few minutes on the end if it’s not cooked through. I have reheated frozen burritos in the air fryer though, which seems like it might be kind of similar. With those I do find that thawing it partway in the microwave first gets better results.
Maybe a frontal view of screen and buttons during demo would be beneficial for anyone new to air fryer user interface vs bird's eye view, I was actually trying to figure out what that would entail, being new to air fryers, but thanks for explaining the half a time at temp (given on freezer instructions). That helps, I just wanted to share that for visual learners... 😏 Thanks!
You'd basically be roasting them. I'd go low and slow, start at 300 or 350F for a few minutes, and check often. I think some spray oil would really help, too.
Oh no! This happened to my old air fryer also and was so upsetting. I would definitely stop using it. I am so sorry this happened to you, too! You might try contacting the company - if you purchased recently, they may replace it. You might also be able to order a replacement basket, rather than a whole new unit, depending on the company.
Very Nice, you are the first place I have seen the whole estimating the time and heat, very good to know. As close to the heat as possible, half the time. Fantastic, thanks!!!
Not in general. Something uncoated or unwrapped, you might want to spritz with oil or at least toss with a liquid. I make Gardein Porkless Bites in there, for example, and they need to be spritzed with oil or tossed in a sauce, or they get really dry. Stuff like spring rolls, dumplings, or breaded items can just get dumped right in.
I just tried out the air fryer that's been lying inside my house for a long time... I set the time according to the instructions but they were still cold when they came out. You said half the time but did you thaw your food first? I followed the instructions and they specifically told me not to thaw the food first.
I do not thaw first. If they're still cold, just add more time. There are a lot of variables (how big the item is, your air fryer, temperature inside your freezer, etc). Half the time is a starting point. :)
@@glueandglitter hi, beg your pardon, newbie, why half the time? Have been cooking with the exact times as if in a conventional oven; well just two days impulse purchase;. Thanks and compliments of the season. Fitz
Love the crisp of the veggie roll. Hubby got me an air fryer for Christmas. Then we go on a 10-day Christmas staycation so lots of playing coming up. Hi. I'm Ivy and I'm a new sub to your channel. Have a yummy day and boogie boogie.
I haven't done frozen pierogies, but I think the method I use for frozen dumplings would work well! 350F for 8 minutes should work. The dumplings get nice and crunchy. Just make sure your pierogies are cooked through. If not, throw them in for 1-2 extra minutes at 350F.
I am vegan, so I've never cooked fish in my air fryer. For frozen food, the method in the video above should work. Just make sure it's cooked through. If not, throw it back in for a few minutes and check again.
I haven't tried that brand, but I don't see why not, as long as it fits in the basket. Start with same temperature and half the time, then make sure it's cooked through. You can always throw it back in for a few minutes at a time.
If the package includes oven directions, then you're all set. Same temp, half the time, shake halfway through cooking, so they'll cook evenly. If not, maybe start at 400F for 10 min? That works for Gardein stuff. You may need to go longer, though, since corn dogs are so big.
I am using a GoWISE in the video, but since shooting this, I've replaced it with a Philips. The GoWISE worked well for about a year, but then it started having issues, and I've heard the same from other GoWISE owners. Philips has gotten really good reviews, so I'd suggest going with that one.
Yes! Same temp, half the time. If you're doing a LOT of fries, you may need to add a few minutes. I'd check for doneness, then add a minute or two, if needed, at the end.
Hi I purchased the big book of recipes and tried cooking homemade chips the recipe say's 2 min shake then 2 mins again Omg uncooked chips I am losing weight already my food is not forth coming with this Machine
I have actually never made potato chips in the air fryer, only french fries. For fries, you do 20 minutes at 400, shaking once. I'm not sure what book you purchased, but I'd say keep adding a minute or two until your chips are cooked through. It can vary, too, depending on your air fryer, whether you preheated (I never do, but some recipes assume that you did), and how thick you cut the potatoes. I hope this helps!
I am vegan, so I don't have experience in this department. If it's like other frozen food, then you don't have to, unless the oven directions on the package specify that you defrost.
I would not use wax paper, but not because of fire. The wax could melt and get all over your food and the basket. Parchment paper is your best bet, if you're wanting to line the basket. I have put parchment paper into my air fryer many times. I use it whenever I make doughnut holes: glueandglitter.com/2016/09/26/chonut-holes-churro-donut-air-fryer/
Thank you. And yes I meant parchment paper lol.. sorry idk why I said wax ;-) I think the tofu in my airfry would be best with parchment underlining it ;-)

Do we have to smear some oil for items (frozen chicken with breadcrumbs on it) which call for deep frying
For breaded items, you shouldn’t have to add oil. You can always do a spritz halfway thru cooking if things look dry.

The Viet Vegan I have almost get rid of the toaster oven and frying pan after buying one air fryer.
hey in norway it is 200
Ooh thank you!
You are too darn cute! Thanks for the primer, as I'm new to the airfry game. Easy to follow, and MANY questions answered! Appreciated!
Aw, thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful. :)
Very Nice, you are the first place I have seen the whole estimating the time and heat, very good to know. As close to the heat as possible, half the time. Fantastic, thanks!!!
I'm glad it was helpful!
Awsome thank you...this was my biggest question!
I'm glad that I could help, Tracy! We used ours to warm up some frozen Fishless Filets last night!
Very good info, thank you
Has anyone cooked frozen corn dogs? Am I right in assuming it would be same temp and half the time????
thanks for the advice on same temp, 1/2 the time. Very helpful.
Yes. That temp advice, I needed to know that
what is the time and temperature is that the time etc on packet
Yes, exactly. Same temp and half the baking time listed on the packet.
Thank you Becky i have mastered the machine now and am getting on with it Thank you for your replys
I am looking for how long rows it take to cook frozen. chicken fried steak?
So you do not need to oil any of these frozen items to cook in the air fryer?
Not in general. Something uncoated or unwrapped, you might want to spritz with oil or at least toss with a liquid. I make Gardein Porkless Bites in there, for example, and they need to be spritzed with oil or tossed in a sauce, or they get really dry. Stuff like spring rolls, dumplings, or breaded items can just get dumped right in.
Becky Striepe how about frozen french fries or potato wedges?
Joanne Richmond l
Which air fryer do you have
I have this GoWise: amzn.to/2JyBaCN (affiliate link)
that's my air fryer. thanks for the video.
Rosrychaplet you are welcome!
Thanks for this video!!
Thanks for explaining the times
I just tried out the air fryer that's been lying inside my house for a long time... I set the time according to the instructions but they were still cold when they came out. You said half the time but did you thaw your food first? I followed the instructions and they specifically told me not to thaw the food first.
I do not thaw first. If they're still cold, just add more time. There are a lot of variables (how big the item is, your air fryer, temperature inside your freezer, etc). Half the time is a starting point. :)
Thank you! 🙂
@@glueandglitter hi, beg your pardon, newbie, why half the time? Have been cooking with the exact times as if in a conventional oven; well just two days impulse purchase;. Thanks and compliments of the season. Fitz
You have simplified using the airfryer...tfs🙂
Nice video. Can you cook popcorn in one of these?
I have heard that you can, but I haven't tried it, since we have an air popper.
Very helpful! Thanks :)
Love the crisp of the veggie roll. Hubby got me an air fryer for Christmas. Then we go on a 10-day Christmas staycation so lots of playing coming up. Hi. I'm Ivy and I'm a new sub to your channel. Have a yummy day and boogie boogie.
Welcome, Ivy! And congratulations on the new air fryer! You're going to love playing with it!
Thanks, Becky. Took me a year to pull the trigger on that sucker.
The Happy Whisk New to air frying. Can you fix frozen steak in one? Thanks!
Hi Teresa. I'm just seeing this message now. haven't tried but I've seen them do steaks on QVC with the Cook's Essentials air fryer.
What about pierogies in the air fryer
I haven't done frozen pierogies, but I think the method I use for frozen dumplings would work well! 350F for 8 minutes should work. The dumplings get nice and crunchy. Just make sure your pierogies are cooked through. If not, throw them in for 1-2 extra minutes at 350F.
I make pierogies in my airfryer and they are great!!!
Oh cool! What time/temp works for you? I have only done frozen dumplings (SO good!).
360 degrees 10 mins...checking at 5.
Thank you so much, Krystal!
Keurig oven. So does a tiny fan push all of the moisture into a heater to be evaporated?
This may be the reason you lose all moisture.
can I cook fish without thawing it first in the air fryer?
I am vegan, so I've never cooked fish in my air fryer. For frozen food, the method in the video above should work. Just make sure it's cooked through. If not, throw it back in for a few minutes and check again.
Becky Striepe thank you. turned out fine.
can you make a marie calander pot pie in an air-fryer?
I haven't tried that brand, but I don't see why not, as long as it fits in the basket. Start with same temperature and half the time, then make sure it's cooked through. You can always throw it back in for a few minutes at a time.
You're vegan and cook with an air fryer! Win win in my book
wrong way to grab the handle you have to press release first then tip otherwise the bottom content would go on you causing burns
I dont understand why i cant find the answer on how long to cook a frozen corndog in the air fryer. No where on the internet
If the package includes oven directions, then you're all set. Same temp, half the time, shake halfway through cooking, so they'll cook evenly. If not, maybe start at 400F for 10 min? That works for Gardein stuff. You may need to go longer, though, since corn dogs are so big.
What name of the air fryer company?
I am using a GoWISE in the video, but since shooting this, I've replaced it with a Philips. The GoWISE worked well for about a year, but then it started having issues, and I've heard the same from other GoWISE owners. Philips has gotten really good reviews, so I'd suggest going with that one.
Becky Striepe Thanks
Omg those plates 😱
Nostalgia city! They belonged to my husband’s grandma Jane.
I just subscribed your good and to the point.
Do frozen fries work the same?
Yes! Same temp, half the time. If you're doing a LOT of fries, you may need to add a few minutes. I'd check for doneness, then add a minute or two, if needed, at the end.
Awesome thank you
Thank you for this. Judith
You are so welcome!
Thanks very helpful
Don't you have to pre-heat?
I never pre-heat the air fryer, unless a recipe specifies.
Full heat and half the time, finally somebody just said it.
Can I cook frozen wings in an air fryer or do I need to defrost first
I am vegan, so I don't have experience in this department. If it's like other frozen food, then you don't have to, unless the oven directions on the package specify that you defrost.
Can I air fried Goya frozen chicken croquettes
can you put wax paper in an air dryer? or would it catch on fire?..
Thank you. And yes I meant parchment paper lol.. sorry idk why I said wax ;-) I think the tofu in my airfry would be best with parchment underlining it ;-)
Definitely go with your gut. Every air fryer is different. It doesn't stick in my GoWISE, but I've heard that some baskets are a little stickier.
I want to cook a turkey breast joint in air fryer ?
Thank you for this video. Your examples are prepared foods. What about frozen chicken wings? Thank you.
Hi Renee! I am vegan, so I have never made frozen chicken wings personally.
Oh. Ok. I figured it out. :-)
