Thx mate. Very helpfull. I started in 1999 with performens on vinyl. i stopped in 2010 and now start up again after 10 years. well there i a lot to learn. from vinyl to digital.
I always come to the comments to see what people love the most so I know what to practise for a crowd 😉 I did like that fader cut I need to do that more often, such a simple yet complex trick. fair bit of forward thinking and speed involved
Thanks Jaime. These videos are all amazing but you said one thing at the end here that I think a lot of new beginner DJ's including myself make. Not know ing what to do with your hands in the middle of a mix. Training your hands to start thinking like your ears so crucial.
Haha, we have a solid team! Everyone plays a huge part in bringing all the fresh content to our channel. Glad you appreciate the video and effort we put in!
@@Crossfader Awesomeness! I've been thinking about doing one of your courses for a while, hopefully be signing up as my Xmas present to myself. Thanks so much again.
traktor s4 !! such a good controller and makes it easier to combine and tweak multiple effects , something that rekordbox can't do. learnt a lot from this video and already have your "open format DJ" course .
Sometimes I will use FX on the build ups or break downs but that's about it... I do like the finger drumming cue points idea and will prolly try it in a practice sesh soon..
@@Crossfader Thanks! I've been following your channel for quite a while now over several different TH-cam accounts and I really appreciate what you guys are doing over there. I'm from the middle of the states in Kansas City and I'm not too impressed with too many of our local TH-camrs when it comes to product reviews and information about gear and software. So thanks again for everything you guys do..
Mate I'm just starting out with the FLX-6.....and seeing what you did with yours in the first mix has me feeling depressed..😅 Some very decent videos on your channel too. Thanks very much.
Would be interesting to use these techniques with minimal deep tech as well. Since I surf around that genre, it's difficult for me to create a good 'hype' for the drop. Anyway, solid videos mage. Learning so much!
Yea man I'm playing the same type of music. Most my homies don't use any of these tricks at all, but I think one should always try to learn new things.
All of these are good. I particularly like No.4 (fader cuts). Executed to perfection. Would love to be able to do these but dont get enough time to practise. Really good videos. Thanks. Keep them coming. 👍
I agree however i never seem to get any better 🤣. I enjoy trying though and thats the main thing. Hopefully will purchase one of your courses soon to give me a helping hand. Hope they have no expiry date.. 🤣 🙂👍
@@hgvtim Break down whatever you are trying to learn into its separate chunks and spend the time on that one part until you can do it literally with your eyes closed and without even really concentrating on doing it. Don't move onto doing anything else or Jam ect until you have got to this point then move onto the next bit, of the routine, the next cut ect until you have worked your through it all. Then you can put all those small actions you can do with your eyes closed together at the end into the full routine and last of all work on your Timing and Speed.
I don't think there is one I like more than the other. I will be DJing alot of Latin music and I am curious how to add these affects to some of the different styles of Latin. Biachata, latin house and latin hip hop along with american hip hop. I am so new to this and really have just learned to blend so far.
thanks so much for info!! I love listening to you. Your great for me to learn from sweetie. All the way from Reno, NV!!! SmilezWitaGiggle is having a blast learning new music skills at 50!!!!! BABY!!!! IM rocking it too!!!!
Some nice techniques here! Can't say I agree with suggesting people sign up to 'DJ ready' record pools though... You're essentially promoting music piracy, even if in this context it's for people to access instrumentals/ accapellas, the people doing that will also realise they can get a load of other music for free. For those of us who are producers as well as DJs it's already hard enough to make money from music as it is without other DJs suggesting people sign up to services which distribute our music for free, TO the one crowd that should be buying the music in the first place; DJs.
Love this video, seeing things I've done with 4 track tape deck recordings back in the day but now we can do live..... blows my mind lol. Yeah I'm going to try using 4 channels with my flex6.
I'm a beginner and just got the ddj 400 controller could yous give me some cool places to get my music at the minute im just using beatport but if you's have others It would be greatly appreciated 🍻
I may be the only one who thinks this but to me, this isn’t DJing. Now obviously Jamie here is immensely talented and his knowledge of the standards in todays electronic music scene are second to none. But I feel when you start factoring in que buttons, sync controls, “drum samples” being utilized live, etc. you’ve gone beyond what DJing is to literally millions of people on the world. I started DJing in 1998-99 and still, to this day, have my Technics 1200’s, a 4 channel Numark mixer which does utilize a Pioneer CDJ, an amp, and speakers. I can connect to my computer to both record sets, and stream live. What I don’t do, and this is mainly based on principle and respect for the artist who produced the track, is play around with looping, sampling live, filters, etc. I 100% respect those who DJ like how is described in these videos but my main question is, “Do any of these guys know how to manually beat match anymore?” To me, that is 60-70% of what DJing IS. Today I feel as if two tracks matching in pitch is simply a given and everyone just spends their time mucking everything up. It’s modern day “turntablism”… which I didn’t like in the 90’s-00’s and honestly can say i don’t see the appeal here and now, twenty years later. The tracks are good enough on their own. Take your audience on a journey… not a frantic, seizure inducing sledgehammer of a set. Regardless, the mere fact that electronic music is alive and well thrills me… During the Giuliani years we really thought they were gonna kill it forever.
But hot cueing still sucks while using it through CDJ 2000...whenever I hit a hot cue there's always a gap between the previous phrase which sounds awkward...😢
@@Crossfader joo bro, i got a question i also got tyhhe ddj flx6, but i now when i plug it in the midi settings aren't there, like litterly none and it doesnt do anything, am i supposed to enter all the settings including the jog? because it doesnt do anything xD I hope you can tell me :D
I have a question I have a Pioneer DDJ 800 play with it for a while I'm starting to learn how to use the system been at it for about a year and now it's just not working right when I plug it in and turn it on one side deck comes on and says Pioneer DJ the other side doesn't light up inside the jaw Grill when that does that what is wrong with it I tried updating firmware I tried resetting it I don't want to take it apart I don't want to spend any money to get it fixed cuz I put already $900 in it when I first bought it I just don't know what to do at that time but I am definitely going to buy the Pioneer DDJ Flex 6

Hi Jamie great video. I have heard the term "dropping on the one" used in the DJ world and was wondering if you could do an explainer video on how to drop on beat? Keep up the good work!

8:58 can you please make a video on dj roland build up effects that would be so helpful for me since I am gonna buy the dj roland 202 :)
The build up and drop at 6:30-7:18 was soooo good
something that James Hype would do
i was watching with my mouth open. i just bought myself a ddj-400 to learn how to dj and i was amazed by this part
Song??
Wasn’t the drop wayyyy too soft for the build up

the Hot Cue Drumming technique stands out to me. So many possibilities there, not just for transitions either.

The core principles all still apply!! You can definitely take those original skills and just level up with new technology!
If you can read your Dancefloor that all you need.
I’ve always wondered if there’s anyone out there that picked the hobby back up after the movement towards CDJs and experienced extreme culture shock
