I feel like dj-ing is the art of subtlety, the best transitions are the ones you hardly notice with your ears
Yes that is exactly it. The less you notice, the better the transition it is.
I think it depends on what you're going for😅
Get into using the looping feature for ultra smooth transitions
I’ve tried to explain this to so many djs and it always goes right over their heads because they just assume they know. It’s bizarre.
Hopefully this will smoothen things out!
For those of us who have edited simple and very basic videos, we know very well the gigantic amount of work and time that is required to put together a video like this. excellent work. congratulations.
Thank you for appreciating that man. This video took so many hours to get right! A long time project for sure!
Do you even know how much value you bring for the DJ community with every video you make. The knowledge you share with every pulls the standards to a higher level. And for the veteran DJ’s the hunger to keep pushing themselves to keep up and create new skills. The value of all the things you do is precious for the DJ community.
And wanted to react to a question you asked some time ago : what kind of genre for a new mixtape: JUMPSTYLE.
This genre is from some time ago but absolutely 🔥. Would love to see what you could do with this genre. It has also a different structure than the normal ones. Not sure if it’s known genre over there. Would love to help you out if needed with some banger tracks, just ask. ✌🏻
Hey man, I remember you and I haven’t forgotten what you said! Thank you always for the support and for making me feel part of the DJ community! I’m just here to try to make the DJ world a better place and I am happy to hear that people resonate so much with my message!
I’ll definitely check the Jump style genre out !
@@djcarlo believe me, you are more likely the center of the community what makes it definitely a better place and inspiring for a lot of people. Hope some day it really pays off for you, well deserved.!
@@djcarlo do you have a contact link I’ll send you some of the better jumpstyle tracks before it all went mainstream. Most tracks are from TH-cam not sure about other platforms. The better ones are from 2003/ 2006 Don’t know about the availability with better platforms.
I was watching this half way yesterday then noticed ithe video was gone! thank you for uploading it again. I got my FLX4 last friday(thanks to your suggestion video) and your videos are helping me greatly!

Cant wait to see what your cooking up for the trap mix
Maybe one of these days! Gotta just find the right songs so it doesn't get immediately taken down
Great video really usefull
Glad you think so Daniel! Which tip did you find most useful?
@djcarlo I think 🤔 all was really good but I liked how you can change settings for like vocal intro just to help along with learning
I was gonna ask that crate connect is for DJs only so does that mean you have to be a professional for a membership?
As a DJ for over 36 years I've always used listened using hearing never use screen makers or visuals
Yup! And even with these, if you know your stuff, you'll never have to look at the screen except to choose or search for your next songs! The visuals just make it so much easier to teach virtually hehe
One of your best videos
That’s really that’s really nice of you to say!

Damn so helpful thanks
You're welcome! Hope you try these techniques a shot!
All this is nice for a DJ studio and I understand you because it's a sponsorship. But the main thing is that you recognize at which moment you will mix because that is the charm of this job :D
Bingo! Actually, DJ.Studio acts as more of a guide, but really knowing your music is a mainstay piece of advice on this channel 🥳
thanks you very helped me:)

I was watching this yesterday, I refreshed and the video disappeared. Thanks for the reupload. 😀👍
For sure! Had some rendering issues with the video yesterday, so here it is in its much fuller glory!
Thanks again for another epic video. You are one of a kind mate!
I've added the viewable phrase guide but it's just a black line. I assume this is something you map out yourself yes? If so where can you do this for each song?
Oh! Did you analyze your tracks first? A lot of times, that solves the problem
@@djcarlo analyse? You mean synchronise? Sorry I dont know about that function
Cheers 🎉
Woah! So generous of you my man! Thanks for the support! More awesome tutorials are on the way!
I wish your vids were around when i started out. I had no idea about mixing in key for my first couple of years on 1210s.
Believe me, neither did I. That's why I put these videos out! Haha, I love sharing my findings
The DJ Studio software is really interesting, it only works with local music files which is fine but its cool. I like the suggested que points and that it will make you a full automixed session. I like listening to this cause it will give me idea of how i want to live mix.
It technically works with a few other services, like TH-cam music! Quite an amazing piece of technology!
my most preferred way of mixing (i dont think it was mentioned in the video?) is to start track two when track one is halfway through its drop. that way, the second part of the intro of track two is playing while the first part of track one is being mixed out. similar to chorus mixing, but you start track two 8 bars later (this works very well for progressive house, bass house, and other mainstage genres, since they usually have a buildup during the second part of their intro)
That works too! It's a little tighter for newer DJs, so it might rattle those still getting their sea legs, but thats a pretty exciting and energetic method as well! 🥳
oh yeah, being a bit advanced is probably true. i did learn one new thing however. i did not know what a prhase was until watching the video, so thanks for that
Options like traffic light make me want to switch from Serato. Ive been mixing in key for years now so I pretty much know what songs mix without having to look but its a cool option to see something new that I may have missed.
That's true! Rekordbox is extremely technical with their layout, so if it's the kind of info you need while mixing, then RB is perfect!
Engine DJ is becoming more and more popular, will you make a tutorials for that as well as you already do with Serato and Rekordbox?
Most likely yes! Once they drop a full stems release, I'll highly likely consider it!
IM SO GLAD I FOUND THIS CHANNEL.
Yay! I'm so glad you found me too! Hope you enjoy the rest of the content too!
12:18 Stuble Carlo, subtle ahah
Sharp eye! Glad you caught that heheh
Thank you Carlo from Kyrgyzstan! Also would be grateful if you explain how work with not extended songs ❤❤
Thank you! Have you checked out my video on how to mix radio edit songs?
Hey man, love your videos, they have really been helping for a while! About the setting you recommended, so they work with all kinds of music, because I changed them just now, and loaded up a song(i mostly do old school hip hop and r&b music), and the labels underneath the music aren't showing up, do you know how i can fix this? Thanks again!
Oh I would suggest analyzing your songs or manually inputting the data one by one’ good luck!
@@djcarlo Lol that’s going to take ages🤣 thanks a lot though!
Will please do a HIP-HOP Version of this video I love this
The rules actually apply to hip hop! For transitions, it's a little more complicated, but usually it's just intro to chorus, with the same techniques applicable
Hey Mate, do have list of the tracks that used cause they are pretty amazing
Nice
Some golden Nuggets of info here! Hope you enjoyed em!
@@djcarlo thanks broth
Wow had no idea dj studio could do all of that! Great video thank you
It can! And so much more! Really worth exploring
When im home im gonna try too use it (just started djing)
Go for it! It'll change the way you see your music!
“Harmonic mixing” in musician’s terms, is called using the “Circle of Fifths”. If you understand this, then you can use this effectively
Yup yup! The Camelot wheel is the most basic way of saying it, but it works wonders for DJs!
@@djcarlo as a longtime musician (more than 30 years) prior to becoming a DJ here in Vegas 3 years ago, I understood this from the beginning, and it’s so satisfying when it works! Thanks for your vids BTW! They’re very informative! Mabuhay!
drop mixing is my way or let the track run to the next drop and bring it in from there i like to start any track let it run to 32 and start the mix so you got about a minute to 60 seconds of the track playing to the people i am also old skool good tips mate
Amen to that! Thanks for better explaining things!
@@djcarlo yeah I apologise I am dyslexic
The DIAMOND Tips!
Yes! That's what I was aiming to serve for this video. Lots of valuable Nuggets of wisdom with music theory
@@djcarlo Thank you very very much 🫶
nice tips carlo share with us more advanced secrets as well plz hehehe
Will consider it for future videos!
Sometimes, if I miss my cue, I go panic mode and you see me frantically trying to find either a 4 bar before change or just wait a whole another 8 bars to cue and then beat jump 8 to catch up.
It heavily depends on the situation but as I've been mixing more and more I miss my cues less and less.
That's called practice my friend! The more you get used to it, the more you understand all the nuances of your music!
3:18 ouch, this one hurt to watch. I was teaching a few friends and family how to DJ and they all did this lol. But i still bopped my head and acted like it was the best transition because well, they are family 😂 its also just generally a fun activity to do with ppl, so even if your not good dont get discouraged and just have fun!
It's a very VERY common beginner problem. I've actually had some people come and tell me this sounded better! You should've seen my face haha
Best laptop for dj
Hard to answer, but I'd go for at least a MacBook Air
You're awesome & PLEASE tell me what song is at 2:41 the drop is so funky I need it!!!
Unfortunately, I don't remember. I've renamed them so many times for these videos, I don't remember the original titles anymore
Dj Carlo awesome stuff. But since I just started trying to DJ. This feels like a different language to me. Great stuff though. Keep up the great work
First master the proper way to count beats, then move on to figuring out the best places to mix!
@djcarlo ok thank u. I kinda got the beats thing a little. But yea I practice. On the weekends. I'm a truck driver. So on my Time off. I usually practice a little. But I can't afford. The dj music pools. So I get the songs from TH-cam. But thanks for the videos. They help. Even if I don't understand everything
@@ozone377maybe this will help you out a little. With the app DJ PRO it’s possible to use it everywhere you go with your phone/ iPad etc. When having a break at work you can practice or prep songs easily. And sometimes i use TH-cam to download a song but always convert it to mp4 quality. SoundCloud is also a good way to get free music. Quality isn’t the same when buying music . But for home use it will do the job. Hope this works for you! 👊🏻
Holy shit yesss
Carlo, I have a question. At 9:20 you have the visual aid with "UP 1" and "UP 3" but they are different lenghts. You correctly mix it at the correct point, but how would you know this? You could count the bars on track 2 to know how long that phrase is, but how do you know it for track 1? Because the track is playing you cant do anything.
Right now my solution for this is that Im using cue points as visual help with names how long the phrase is. for example, I make a cue point and then name it "INT 8B" so i know its 8bars.
But I was wondering if there is a trick or method of doing this? Thank you for all your videos
Using Cue Points is a good alternative. I use Cue Points too :)
Hey, I decided for my own mixing strateg. (I am mixing hardtechno) to set 4 hotcues on every track
1. Intro/ 16 Bars before the first breakdown
2. Drop 1/ 16 Bars before the end of the first Drop
3. Drop 2/ 16 Bars before the end of the second/last Drop
4. Outro/ 16 Bars before the Track ends
Do you think this is a valid method?
And ps. Are your videos even recommended for mixing techno? I think they are helpful :)
The videos are pretty general with music, and the way you want to cue point your music is very much up to you, depending on what you need with the guides and whatnot! What you're doing is completely valid, and I'd say is a pretty good way to map out your techno tracks! 🥳
All I need now are equipment!!!
Time to save up for some buddy! It's worth the investment, I guarantee!
Hey Dj Carlo! I’ve been binge watching your videos because I would like to become a DJ. I have no experience however I really like hip hop music/dance and would like to specialize in scratching. What controller would you recommend for me as a beginner? I was looking into a SR2 or the Impulse T7.
Thanks again!
The T7 would be great! It's geared towards scratching, so it should be perfect for you!
@@djcarlothanks for the suggestion! I was really leaning towards that one! One more question… I see people using launchpads/launchkeys. Do Djs use them?
Not always. They're more for production and electronic DJs, as well as those who put on a show. I've only ever tried using them twice or thrice at parties
dj Carlo please make a video on psytrance mixing tutorial
Sounds like a fun idea! I'll see what I can do!
Was I dreaming or did I watch this yesterday?
I think you were dreaming!
For Hip Hop tracks it's quite different 😮
Music theory and the counting still applies !
Great video! However, I can't get the hack mixing to work using the same settings as you. Do you have an explanation?
Oh, what happens when you try to do it?
@@djcarlosame it stays the same
Ehi nice video, can I ask the id of the levels and good feeling mashup in the beginning?
I believe you can get that on BPM Supreme!
Harika👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
I mix janky AF if this is the right way to do it then. I mix in key and kinda on the right phrases, but that's about it 😂😂😂
Well it’s something! Hope this video helps you in some way!
Is there a list of the songs you used in this video so we may follow along?
I'd actually recommend using your own tracks to try these tricks out. Just so you're already familiar with the material, and theyre songs that your already like 🥳
Lol I'm upgrading to a ddj-rev1 from my ddj-200
Great upgrade! I love those units!
At 18.15 on the video, you mentioned the traffic light feature. I have Serato, does it have a similar feature? Thanks
Good question. Not yet, but maybe in the future. Pioneer DJ and Serato may become one afterall ;)
@@djcarlo I hope they make this feature, it would make things a lot easier
