"This song could kill racism" is an amazing thing to say because Ska came from mixing black and white cultures in the late 60s. This is the third wave of it. First wave Ska is great herb music! Also the stick throw air drumming was class hahaha
It was roughly '98 or '99 when my girlfriend (now wife) and I drove up the interstate to catch Less Than Jake and the Mad Caddies in Fargo-Moorhead. The show was great! But then we had to haul ass 150 miles south to get home since it was a school night and we hadn't told our parents we were going! As luck would have it, a nasty winter storm blew in which slowed the interstate traffic to less than 15mph due to white-out blowing snow. We ended up spending the night in my '88 Sentra parked next to a semi trailer on an off-ramp. Luckily I had the forethought to bring the family bag-phone (look it up, kids), so we were able to contact our parents before they panicked. Either way- the show was great and it gave us a fun story. No regerts.
So if you're delving into punk/ska, I recommend Social Distortion, Rancid, Descendents, NOFX, Bad Religion, Goldfinger, the Interrupters, Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish, Operation Ivy, and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Love the vids :)
This is my favorite band...I love the depth that you found in this song. Totally true - their music always takes me back and improves my mood. I'm absolutely going to subscribe and listen to more of your reactions.
This is why I love ska it's always so upbeat and energetic it never fails to put me in a good mood. I was 7 the first time I heard this song in the digimon movie, and I've been a fan ever since.
LTJ has been mostly unknown for 30 years. I've been a fan since roughly 1996 tho! The first song i heard was called 'Automatic' which later popped up on a punk sampler CD called 'Cinema Beer Nuts' in 1997, i was hooked on the genre by then!
Automatic was on Losing Streak. First song. That album always puts me in a good mood. Suicide Machines would be another good band from the genre to check out. Their drummer blows my damn mind!
Less than jake is the best, the guys are so down to earth and sweet and the positive vibes and great messages in their music never fails to make me smile, another great one is King of The Downside (extremely upbeat and positive)
You're likely about to get a lot of hits on this as it just found its way to the Less Than Jake fan clubs and they have a huge following, even today. You mentioned that this type of music would cheer people up... I suffer from some major mental illnesses including but limited to severe depression. I've attempted suicide many times and been hospitalized more than once. You are absolutely right. Without this band's music, and this entire genre and the scene attached... I'd be dead.
Hey, I know it doesn't mean much from a rando on the interwebs, but I'm glad you're still here. Music brings us together. Love LTJ, just saw them at Riot Fest. ❤
I'm pretty sure that I was about 16 years old when this came out. I definitely had this exact same album. It one of those albums that virtually played on a loop back then. Now, I'm off to get lost reminiscing down this rabbit hole for a few hours. Thanks.
If you like these guys you gotta do "The Science of Selling Yourself Short" As a whole album, as great as their older ones were (I grew up on skatepunk/skapunk) See the Light is a fantastic album from the mid 2010's that is worth listening to in your spare time. You'll get a real application for the band. As an older class Losing Streak was the go to.
Ska Punk is so interesting, blends so many genres together depending on the group! Of course Ska and Punk but they also throw in some Reggae, some Funk, some Rap, all different kinds of Ska Punk! Also try to check out The Red Hot Chili Peppers(more Funk Rock but got a little Ska sound in some of their songs 🤘🏼)
Reel Big Fish- She has a Girlfriend now, Sublime-Wrong way, and Mighty Mighty Bosstones The Impression that I get. Seems like yesterday, yet so long ago.
With chronic lyme disease, myalgic encephalomyelitsis, chronic meningitis, etc I fight depression, from physical illness 24yrs. Mostly bedridden. I'm a suicide survivor. I fight a lot.

are you from watertown?
One of my concert regrets is that I wasn't at that show AT MY COLLEGE. Small world! 🤘
Love mad caddies too. Just saw them and less than jake over the summer. Not together but a month apart in Baltimore
Bro. I grew up listening to this band and you are right. At 40, I still get happy when I am sad. Great songwriters.
Greatest band in the world. I'll say it every time!
uh no, melincollin and lagwagon are 10 trillion times better
less than jake has 1 song

All of this. 🤘
💯
I must have listened to Losing Streak a million times. That entire album is awesome. One of those that I don't skip a single track.
This is my favorite band...I love the depth that you found in this song. Totally true - their music always takes me back and improves my mood. I'm absolutely going to subscribe and listen to more of your reactions.
I was starting my senior year at the University of Florida when this song came out. I was 20. One of my favorites!

@@maliciousclouds1614 me too! What a great album.
Gah! I had that same ‘Cinema Beer Nuts’ sampler!
You get it!! You said what every LTJ fan has been telling people for years.
Been a LTJ fan for a couple decades. Going to see them for the 1st time 7-22 in St. Pete FL. Great reaction. More ska please.
I was there, too! What a great show in the rain!
I've been listening to this band since I was 7... I'm 33 now. This is always one of my go to bands/songs for uplifting my morale... ALWAYS.
Science of Selling Yourself Short is amazing as well. Seen these guys live 5 time’s incredible sound just like on the album.
Still stick Less than Jake on to put me in a happy place at 38……..takes me back to rock clubs and skanking.
F$%& yes Van. So happy someone new finds Less Than Jake
Less than jake is the best, the guys are so down to earth and sweet and the positive vibes and great messages in their music never fails to make me smile, another great one is King of The Downside (extremely upbeat and positive)
Jr High or a Freshman in high school. I was just happy back then when all this music was being made and it did put me in a good mood.
I LOVE THAT YOU DID A SKA SONG! Please try the band: Goldfinger: Superman!!

Subscribed because of this reaction. Good insight!
I was in my mid 20’s back in the mid 90’s when I was listening to this song.

Music brings us together. Love LTJ, just saw them at Riot Fest. ❤
The bass in this song is so beautiful and complex I just wish it was more apparent so everyone could truly appreciate what he is doing! 😊
Roger is one of the most underrated Bassists of all time! When they play live he is on point and never misses a note.
I was 11 and I borrowed this album from my brother's collection.
I'm pretty sure that I was about 16 years old when this came out. I definitely had this exact same album. It one of those albums that virtually played on a loop back then. Now, I'm off to get lost reminiscing down this rabbit hole for a few hours. Thanks.
Awesome reaction! this bro gets it!
❤
It and you got a smile out of me and I am old.
Discovered this song on Tony hawks pro skater 4 when I was maybe 10
That was Street sk8er my boy 🤞🏾🤞🏾
Great band!
Music carried me through some very dark times.
If you like these guys you gotta do "The Science of Selling Yourself Short"

Reel Big Fish- She has a Girlfriend now, Sublime-Wrong way, and Mighty Mighty Bosstones The Impression that I get. Seems like yesterday, yet so long ago.
One of my absolute favorite bands, but their best was later. Anthem Album or the Madden 07 famous masterpiece "A Still Life Franchise"
This is their best album. My fave song from it is Al's War. Though my fave LTJ song is Out of the Criwd.
@@caseyh.robinson1680 P.S. Shock the world 👌
